2 Just had the cutest kid ever come to the door. About 3. I open the door. She says Trick or Treat and walks right in. See the candy dish and goes over and starts grabbing. Then she looks around, says Where is the mommy? and heads down the hallway.
Hilarious!

The weeping angel was pretty good, but the two kids from Up take the prize, in my candy-enhanced opinion.

57 Last year we had something keep us from going down to Mom's for Halloween candy terrorists. She said she had no takers. (I think the weather was bad, too.) Used to, usually, she'd have at least 30.

We were trying to arrange to get down there tonight, but she just said she was going to leave the lights off and not do anything. Maybe she's just getting grumpy in her old age; at 99 she's earned a little grump.

But, so, this is the 2nd Halloween where we didn't have anything much to do. We were invited to town to have a drink at the restaurant where Daughter is bartending tonight, but, but, cold, dark, old, lazy. It's the drive back that's most wearying.

She would probably have introduced us to this guy she's been dating and can't quit talking about. Dodged that.

(Morons note your window of opportunity for winning my daughter's hand may be closing on your knuckles.)

So, it's just me & Milady and the three cats out here in the old haunted house near the old Cherokee graveyard.

Candy corn.
Hot chocolate.
And thou, y'all.

81 willowed but in case movie types have a reaction -

Only problem with The Shining was the change of framework [movie geeks
provide proper term], when a "ghost" lets Jack out of the freezer. Could
be wrong, but up til that time, it's all real world, psychodrama - and
fantastic as that. Jack is going nuts, amazing acting portraying this,
whole thing works.

The wild scary scenes, the twin girls,
blood gushing down the hallway, etc, were all ambiguous in a way - was
everyone going crazy?

But opening a latch on a door? Huh?
Anyway, I found it jarring and wrong the first time I saw the movie,
which otherwise - and still - is a masterpiece. I believe Pug Mahon dissents from this view.

98 I accidentally committed a hate crime. A small Asian child and a larger Asian child came to my door trick or treating. The larger Asian child didn't have much of a costume, but I gave her candy anyway. Also it's about 35 degrees and rainy, so the costumes are confusing, what with hoodies under, over, or around the costumes.

After they left I realized that the larger child was the mom. She looked a little surprised when I handed her the treat baggy.

Sons are the best! Mine just happened to be spending last night at my house. If I had been alone I would have called 911. The ER doc said most patients with this get to the ER via ambulance. Ugh.

101 I missed this - what were the symptoms that prompted you to go?
Posted by: hogmartin

It was gradual over about three weeks. First my left arm would hurt when I walked, thought it was how I was carrying my book and switched carry hands. Then it was getting out of breath, then left ribs and left arm hurting. When I went to the ER, it was all three, plus my throat was swelling up. By the time I reported to surgery, I felt like I had a cinderblock on my chest, was constantly out of breath and my ribs and arm hurt all the time.

Now, I still have a portion of my heart that is "pumping slugishly" that the doc wants to watch closely for a few months to ensure it recovers.

From feeling a bit woozy, sitting right here at the laptop, to heading back to the bedroom to lie down, to having to crawl to the toilet to barf, in about 5 minutes. It looks like they are going to spring me from here tomorrow and send me home. I just ordered a new adjustable hospital bed for home use. I need to get my old bed out of the house by the time the new one gets here (a few days from now).

The old one is a queen sized futon. It's still serviceable and I'll make it available for free to any AoSHQ member who is interested. The parts are as follows:

1. Folding wooden frame
2. Thick cotton-filled bottom mattress
3. Thinner wool-filled top mattress
4. Summer and winter sheets, blanket, and down comforter, all queen size

I also got an invitation to join Nextdoor today, but I figured I'd give the Horde first crack at it because of your touching generosity in organizing the search party for me last week. Nobody has to take the whole thing, but I do need someone to move the frame and mattresses outside. They weigh a ton and I can't do it myself. Please let me know if you are interested and/or can help.

I'll admit to knowing next to nothing about the points system. I had a vague awareness of personnel movements to the Pacific as Europe was winding down, but couldn't have given any specifics.

My earliest conscious memories of Dad and the military was when he was stationed at Ft. Sill, going to artillery live fire demonstrations. Vividly remember the "high-low" shot that I featured in "To Save Us All From Ruin". I was in grades 3-5 then.

Indiana State Police are investigating a woman's death after she was found with a python around her neck.

Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 609 North Dan Patch Drive shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday on a report of an unresponsive woman.

Deputies arrived to find a 36-year-old Laura Hurst of Battle Ground on the floor with an 8-foot python wrapped around her neck.

Medics pronounced the woman dead.

Police say there were 140 snakes in the home and the woman owned 20 of the snakes.

Police describe the home as a home built for reptiles.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the woman's cause of death.

In this new Hubble Space Telescope image, an uncanny pair of glowing eyes glares menacingly in our direction. The piercing "eyes" are the most prominent feature of what resembles the face of an otherworldly creature.

But this is no ghostly apparition. Hubble is looking at a titanic head-on collision between two galaxies.

Each "eye" is the bright core of a galaxy, one of which slammed into another. The outline of the face is a ring of young blue stars. Other clumps of new stars form a nose and mouth. The entire system is catalogued as Arp-Madore 2026-424 (AM 2026-424), from the Arp-Madore "Catalogue of Southern Peculiar Galaxies and Associations."

For vertigo, try Bonine for motion sickness in combination with allergy D medicine. The latter helps for reasons they don't understand.

Keep the Bonine around at all times; I've had vertigo a lot over the years (even went to an ENT, which was useless, although he did confirm the decongestant thing) and found that it happens to me at night. If you catch it right away and take Bonine, you can really lessen the symptoms.

247 245 What if I took Tylenol PM tonight? Do you think that would work?

No. Send someone to the store for you if you can't drive. You can get Bonine or Dramamine Less Drowsy. The ingredient you need is Meclizine, 25mg. PLUS an allergy decongestant, which you may or may not be able to get, since it's now behind the pharmacy counter. But you MUST get the Meclizine. I used to get it via a prescription back in the day.

You don't have to bother if it is for 25 mg. The prescription may very well cost MORE than the OTC version, aka Bonine. I found that out a few years ago.

=======

If Trump is impeached, the Senate trial may get very messy. John Roberts will preside as the judge, because the President is on trial. Per current Senate impeachment trial rules, the presiding officer gets to make the call on what witnesses can be subpoenaed, and what evidence is admissible and what's not. But wait! A ruling by the presiding officer can be challenged by any single Senator, leading to an immediate vote where a simple majority decides the issue.

So...If Romney and a few other R NeverTrumpers go with the Democrats on witness and evidence issues, Chuckles Schumer may have more power over the trial than McConnell. If that's not bad enough, let's say McConnell wants to change the current Senate rules before the trial, perhaps to say that there will not even be a trial in this case. Well, he can't lose many R NeverTrumpers and change the rules, because he won't have 51 votes (including Pence's if there's a tie).

And with those hopefully overly-pessimistic thoughts, I'll say Good Night - getting pretty sleepy.

It goes in phases. One year, I'll have it three or four times, the next year... maybe nothing. I have gotten really good at recognizing it, so I can stop it early. Also... if you haven't already figured this out, it's in one ear, so when you're walking, keep you head tilted to one side, and when you're lying down, only lay down on one side. That will help.

And if they do offer up articles of impeachment based on this bullshit, McConnell could use the trial to hang the Democrats.

What will defiantly happen for the next year is more impeachment hysteria being generated by the Donks and media but no actual articles of impeachment.

Sounds awful.

The only time I've had anything close to it is sometimes when I'm about to go down an escalator. I'll look down at the steps and get slightly dizzy and I'll freeze. I become convinced that I will not be able to put my foot on a step without falling. I don't know if that is vertigo or residual fear from having broken my wrist falling down stairs 10 years ago.

It doesn't always happen, but it happened last week in a department store. It's a bit embarrassing to have to move away from the escalator because you can't bring yourself to go down it.

403 I read that Belgian Malinois, are now in high demand due to the exploits of brave Hero Dog.

That's a mistake. From what I have heard, these are high maintenance dogs that require a lot of training and attention. I fear people will get them, tire of them and dump them in shelters.

That happened when Dalmatians became a thing after people saw "1001 Dalmatians" and their kids wanted fire dogs. They're not the best breed for kids. Jack Russell terriers also became popular due to "Fraser" and those dogs are, I can attest, smart as whips, but quite a handful.

You want a hero dog near look alike - get a German Shepard. Not only good protectors, but every one I've known was great with kids.

In it we see the MSM, academics and Leftist politicians (but I repeat myself) declaring people guilty based solely on the Leftist Narritive.

However, in the cases of both Duke Lacrosse, Kavanaugh and the Covington kids, they were eventually allowed to present their own side, despite no one on the left being willing to listen.

This is the difference with the Trump case. The Narrative is that Trump is guilty. Democrats will NOT ALLOW Trump to present any defense of himself, as the American Left has show all too frequently lately their entire dependence on a tissue of LIES.

So, in looking at comments for a preview video for the event, I found out that there was a concerted effort to get antisemitic questions into the Q and A. (Because that's exactly what grassroots conservatism needs: Rabid antisemitism.)

I thought Crowder handled it fine, avoiding the trap of "X person says Y, will you condemn X?!?!" Of course, now the nutjobs are crowing about their victory in infiltration, but once again I ask: Don't these people have anything better to do? "More training" won't cut it. Of course it didn't the first time, either. But in any case the "press" will distort and bury the IG report, so the great unwashed masses on NPR listeners won't have their delusional world disturbed.

I would retrain Horowitz, but he would not like working for weeks in the rifle pits, calling hits and Maggie's drawers for misses.

He would also not enjoy incessant weapons cleaning detail, as troops turn in M-249s with heavily built up carbon deposits after field excrcises.

Those blanks leave a filthy deposit, you know.

But retrain him, I would.

Harshly.

Not only is Jesus our Intercessor and Savior, but I do believe that He is laughing luxuriously at the antics of the Golden Scalp Weasel, as he so Trumpariously defeats the incessant attacks against him.

Imagine there was a monkey with electrodes hooked up to its brain and a lead running to two buttons.

Every time the left button was pushed, the monkey received a massive shock that causes immense pain to it.

But if you hit the right button, the monkey receives a gentle impulse that releases endorphins that make the monkey happy.

You are free to press either button at any time. So you routinely press the left button and torture the monkey, and on Sunday you press the right button for one and a half hours.

This goes on for you're entire life, and at the end, even though the monkey is consciously aware that you are shocking it with the full knowledge that you are torturing it, it still loves you and comes out of it's cage each morning expecting that today will be the day that you show it love back and repeatedly press the right button.

That's what we do every time we sin, we add another stripe to Christ. And we keep doing it knowing we are doing it, and we actually trade the torture of Jesus for our own earthly pleasures.

We are pretty sick sadists.

British money in the colonies was in short supply.

I was discharged from the hospital and admitted to the rehab/nursing home on October 19. I don't know how they would have located me there if they didn't know which hospital I was in in the first place.

586 rickl, we were wondering about you a couple of days before that but I don't recall who raised the alarm first. Ben Had and Tami were hell-bent to find you. I think they'd have rousted every moron within a hundred miles.

This happened on another blog I visit but it did not end well. Scared the socks off me when you disappeared without a trace. You have no idea the relief we felt when your nick popped back up here.

Some years back, 2010ish or shortly thereafter, a regular poster here nicknamed CaliGrump went through a tough spell. One day he posted an only thinly veiled "goodbye, cruel world" message in one of the threads. A now missing poster (banned, I think) named Arhooly caught the signal and members of the Horde sprung into action. We tracked CG down as best we could, finding an address and a phone number or two and tried to reach him. As we were posting private information online, there were horrified protests, but, hey, CG was threatening suicide. Eventually Arhooley got ahold of a member of his family, filled in that person, and a ground search in the Bay Area finally located CG on the waterfront of SF, IIRC. He was checked into a medical facility for observation and his family offered us their profound thanks for caring and acting.

658 So, just like every year, the minivans arrived yesterday evening, discharging the children from not-here, to begin trick-or-treating in the neighborhood.

And of course the scolds on the internet began to complain that some folk felt that they were being put-upon by the number of kids from outside the community.

And just like last year, the number of lit porch lights was noticeably fewer this year than the previous year.

That happens here too. We go to our rich cousin's house to help them hand out...water. Which, surprisingly, the ghetto kids don't really appreciate.

669 "Just give out Necco wafers."

Nah.

We unplugged last year, after spending a not small amount on treats for over 400 people who showed up the year before.

And we realized that we were in exactly the same predicament as California with the homeless.

Each year we were spending more on trick-or-treaters.

And each year we were getting more trick-or-treaters.

So we're done.

My last comment on the evening of Oct. 8 was something like, "I'm glad Ace posted this. Today has been a shitty day." He had put up a puppeh video. I had already fallen about six times and went to bed shortly afterwards. Fortunately I wasn't feeling suicidal; just miserable.

673 I was getting a lot of junk mail from AARP during Barky's reign of terror. I used to send back subtle messages to them in the return envelope like "I don't give money to people who donate money to Communists." This went on for a year, and I swear, I haven't heard from them in five years.
