Like I said, I experienced things that felt like evil presences as a kid. They could have just been some kind of psychological manifestation of trauma (which there was plenty of, unfortunately), except years later my brother related similar experiences and we had never discussed it before. I recently bartended a Bar Mitzvah (sp?) of about 220 attendees that lasted 5 hours. Sadly, my tips amounted to $18 for the entire evening, which fairly well made be quite irritable.
But....the organizer of the event had purchased a case of Arak for the guests to enjoy. at the end of the event he had a few bottles left and was nice enough to give me a bottle. It is an anisette, similar to Ouzo, Raki or Sambuca.
In any event, I was telling some of the folks I was training last night about it and they asked if I had tried it yet and I had not. They asked why not, I should crack it open.
And so I did. And then I had more. And then I had quite a bit more. And by 3 a.m., I had finished the entire fifth of it and was completely obliterated.
I will say this, I don't know if death by black licorice is a particularly gruesome end, but I can tell head-splitting headache by black licorice liquor definitely sucks an enormous donkey d*ck of epic proportions.

Looking at Wikipedia, the maximum estimated native population of North America is 16 million, and the usual estimates are 2.1 to 7 million people. Does she think that Native American tribes had teeming multimillion person urban areas with their near-Stone Age technology?
Bottom line: she's an idiot. But we already knew that.
Another minor point: although Leftists like to call the rapid decline in the population of American natives a "genocide", it's wasn't - it was the inadvertent introduction of European diseases that caused this. It would make as much sense to accuse the Mongols of "genocide" for introducing the Black Death to Europe.

Never experienced (that I know of) ghosts or spirits. But I do remember a very strange/weird incident that defied explanation.
I had a good friend, now deceased, who I knew since around 4th or 5th grade (we always debated as to what year it was). I even live him with for about two years when I moved to NYC. After I moved from Brooklyn to Queens, we'd talk just about every night on the phone. This one time I told him I had a weird dream the previous night and he said so did he. I started telling him about my dream then he started in with additional details from my/his dream. After about 15 minutes, we realized we had the same dream! I have no idea what that meant nor has that ever happened with anyone else ever again.
I can't explain it because some things are unexplainable, but it was very weird.

There's a Dutch "treat" called "Dubbel Zout" ("double salt") that's basically heavily-salted black licorice.

No kidding. German guy in my office had a dish of little black squares he said were licorice. I don't like that crap anyway, but he swore it was good.

Scandis and Northern Germans eat a lot of salted black licorice. It's limited by law how much salt can be added, as kids eating too much accidentally could make them sick (so I've heard). It's...flavorful.

As I remember it, picture a nice little Wisconsin town with some older, very nice looking buildings mixed in with more recent, grubby rundown stuff that was just tossed up, and then take away all the nice buildings and you've got it.
I've realized that East Coast upper class families send their children to Europe in college summers to Learn Things. Well, I got to go to Adams-Friendship and drive a combine - but i think I learned more, and more that was important, that summer than any of those nicely manicured boys with tightly creased slacks did in Europe.
(lived with my Grandfather, btw, who I adored)

I just suddenly had a distinct impression of a person, tall, presumably male, standing a few feet away from me, looking down at me ... although there was nothing to see. Weird. The other person in the room was aware of none of this.
I began dispassionately observing simultaneous activities of my mind:
Part of my mind began, rapidly, theorizing what kind of residual visual effect or undigested bit of meat or other brain trick was involved.
Part of my mind was reassuring myself that even if it were a real thing, there was no threat. Jesus is my protector and anyway it could be a friendly spirit.
And in part of my mind, I noted with detached amusement, my panic level was rising rapidly and uncontrollably. I was about to freak out.
That's when I peripherally perceived another apparition, this one below the left arm of my chair. From looking up and right, I managed to turn and look down and left, and saw, again, nothing there but, again, the sense of some small living thing, and it was looking up at me just as the other had been looking down at me.
That's when the stupid black-and-white cat, Sylvester, walked out from under my chair, and locked into that apparition's position, looking up at me. Haha! It was as much like a premonition as anything I've ever had. Funny cat! Wait, what?
I noticed the panic was totally gone. When I looked back up, there was no apparition. That was it, the whole experience, all in the space of just a few moments, really. On a normal, sunny afternoon. Four, five decades ago.
No idea what it was about. If it weren't for the perception presaging the cat, I would naturally dismiss the whole thing as brain gas.
But, if that cat 'aura' was real, then what was...

This happened to me (some might call it an "out-of-body experience") with a woman I worked with (it was sexual) and it obviously led to other things.
She might have been extra-sensitive. She said that she had been in a prior relationship with a guy who had a car rollover in the middle of the night in another part of the country -- and she immediately sensed it and woke up knowing he was in trouble. Spooky.

My Mom told me a similar story which she related to me years after the incident.
She was sleeping and had a premonition/dream that something had happened to her Mom. She got up and called my aunt, with whom she lived and who took care of her. The first words out of my Mom's mouth were, 'How is Mom?' My aunt told her, 'She's in the hospital and doing fine -- HOW DID YOU KNOW?'

Well that may have gone ok. My brief oral submission to the Select
Committee has at least got their attention as it was obvious that I was a
SME. The committee did ask my opinion on several things which was a
nice surprise. A friends who is a lawyer did very well before me as did
an ex Army officer mate after me. The committee seemed to be

Maybe flash the speed dot green / grey / red based on location after the fact; greener or redder the further out from the edges.

It's kinda the same premise. He got hurt in a helicopter crash in the sandbox, now he's working as a analyst for CIA doing low level financial stuff. After that nothing is the same besides Cathy's name. Hell they have Greer as a muslim and not an admiral, that's the one that gets me.

I've seen a few episodes, and am not sold on the actor hired for the Jack Ryan role.
Just something not quite solid enough in that portrayal. I'll leave it to the actual film n' teevee critics to further define that, or not.

I think its going to be like the MCU. They are going to pick the bits of older stories they like and mold them to whatever fits. Season 1 took bits from a later novel. Trailer for season 2 looks like maybe a bit of clear and present danger.

I kinda lost interest in Clancy once the Cold War was over. He was friggin' great at writing Russians, but the various opponents he trotted out in the later books never quite worked for me.

I don't drink Raki, but I adore Aguardiente, which is pretty much the same thing made out of sugar cane.
I actually liked the Colombian stuff because it was originally made out the cane bagasse that was left over after they got the molasses out of the cane, after they got the sugar out. However, it is now made out of white rum just like every sensible country around the Caribbean.
I buy cheap white rum and macerate anise and star anise in it, it makes me plenty happy for the price.
I save my $20 purchases for the odd bottle of Pisco . . .

Pretty sure which true story this is based on. A Dauntless crew after the first strike who went in the drink and IIRC about five days later being fished out by a PBY piloted by a guy the Dauntless pilot had not seen since Biloxi high school.
They used a few photos and the Trumpeter 1/32d scale Dauntless to build their full size SBD cockpit.

Rhomboid, well yeah but a US BB at Midway is flat out wrong. They got the Dauntless looking close. Even had the lift cable that is part of the installed equipment in the pilot's cockpit. But missed the stand-by compass located at the top of the windscreen. The DF loop should have been painted half silver/half-black. No flare pistol port on the left hand side of the radio-gunner's compartment.
The twin .30s have the brackets for the covers for factory built, the covers are when the machine guns are stowed but no covers are present and there are no cut-outs in the sheet-metal to pull the machine guns out. Actual field-modified -3s with the two .30s still have the two spring-loaded doors for the single gun and just below that are cut-outs to allow the upgraded firepower to be pulled out.

Indeed. I did add water with, I was familiar with the practice because my work neighbors are Turkish and gave me a bottle of Raki once.
It was actually reasonably enjoyable. I had three female trainees with me I started in on it. They helped me with the drinking of it to an extent. We probably did 5 or 6 shots together with a 12 pack of Yuengling Golden Pilsner as well. I vaguely remember at some point two of the tongue kissing at my urging and based on the mess I came into at 8 am that I must have made a Ramos Fizz because I left some Fords gin and a bottle orange blossom water out and there were lemon and lime rinds on the bar top as well as a small carton of heavy cream spilled all over the bar as well.
Additionally it appears that my ambulatory skills were somewhat impaired, as a bar stool was knocked over and I left one shoe behind.
I still feel hungover 22 hours later but this Miller Lite appears to be helping a bit. Ah well, I can't be good all the time.

it's supposed to be low 80's here all weekend, with a breeze
fortunately, i live at the bottom of the hill, and the wind blows up it, so even if there is a fire in my AO, i should be good.
when we were house shopping back in '03, we dismissed several possibilities because of fire danger issues.
of course, we are both natives/locals, so we instinctively consider that in decision making.

I don't have insomnia, but I keep waking up and falling back asleep. That is easy since I don't have to work today. I'm getting used to living here, which is both good and bad. I need to find out how long my insurance will cover it. I think they will let me go home soon but I don't know when.

Oceana Inn is the converted Bachelor Officers Quarters.
So...a real suite.
Wright-Pat is converted Enlisted barracks, with two single person rooms sharing a Jack-and Jill bathroom, with no bed in one room, and minimal furnishings making up a suite.
But overall, I was surprised at the feel of 'Used to be great, now not-so-much' there.
Still glad we made the trip to the museum though.

Remember that they didn't just switch over to Facebook comments though. They also insulted their commenters at the same time basically telling them to fuck off. So why would you want to stick around after Ed and Allah told you they hated all you smelly commenters and are glad that you won't follow them to Facebook. Success. I have managed to get the right browser extensions installed and working to defeat the anti-adblock detection that many websites are now using.
I was using AdBlock Plus. They "play nice" and don't do do any such anti-anti-adblock stuff (they consider it unethical to do such tricks).
It took me awhile but the combination of Nano Adblocker and Nano Defender did the trick. The latter will work with uBlock Origin as well, but it takes some extra tweaking. It works with both Chrome and Firefox.

We build massive structures that are used about 50% of the time. No commercial entity would or could ever fund a building that is will never ever offer any return on investment.
In every other public benefit offering we pay funds to the person or family to let them decide how to obtain services.
The entire process sounds like a Soviet program of the 1930s. We use local law enforcement to collect taxes to build buildings and then use the same local law enforcement to round up children to be force to go to those buildings.

Blocking the ads wasn't the problem -- Adblock plus did that fine. The trouble is they're running scripts and other methods to detect if you're running an adblocker.
If you are, they refuse to load the page unless you disable the adblocker. Until yesterday, my response to that was usually just "fuck you, then" and off I go.
But the Daily Mail started that a day or two ago, and I can't be deprived of the T&A sidebar. I had to do something.
Nano Defender is that something. It "defuses" the detection scripts and fools them into thinking the ads are being displayed when they aren't.
