The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

I read about this incident but didn't pay much attention. I assumed (wrongly) that it was some low-level altercation that was newsworthy only because of the high-profile relations to an American prisoner.

But it was much bigger than that, and this blog thinks it was a very big deal, and indicative of the collapse of Mexican institutions. The author has an inflated opinion of Mexico's love of liberty and freedom (especially the expats here), but his analysis is rational and chilling.

Here is the description of the battle, but go to the link for the rest...it is well worth a read.

On Mexican State Collapse

You may have read the news just a few days back: the Mexican military captured not one but two of El Chapo’s sons in the heart of Culiacán, the Sinaloan capital. One son freed himself—which is to say his entourage and retainers at hand overpowered and killed the soldiers at hand—and then, in a decisive riposte, seized the entire city center of Culiacán to compel the liberation of his brother.

The forces that emerged were in the literal sense awesome and awful. Heavy weaponry that would be familiar on any Iraqi, Syrian, or Yemeni battlefield was brought to bear. More and worse: custom-built armored vehicles, designed and built to make a Sahel-warfare technical look like an amateur’s weekend kit job, were rolled out for their combat debut. Most critically, all this hardware was manned by men with qualities the Mexican Army largely lacks: training, tactical proficiency, and motivation.

Then the coup de grace: as the Chapo sons’ forces engaged in direct combat with their own national military, kill squads went into action across Culiacán, slaughtering the families of soldiers engaged in the streets.

Cowed and overmatched—most crucially in the moral arena—the hapless band of soldiers still holding the second son finally received word from Mexico City, direct from President AMLO himself: surrender. Surrender and release the prisoner.

This does not bode well for America, but unsaid is the logical extrapolation to other countries with similar origins. There seems to be a toxic mix of Colonial Spain, indigenous people and socialism for two thousand miles south of us, and it doesn't seem to be improving. One might ask why are we importing the raw ingredients for societal breakdown and a return to a feudal state? Because that is exactly what we are doing when we do not control our borders to the south.

Is it racist to point out the failures of most Spanish colonies? Well of course it isn't. How can a fact be racist, other than in the fever-dreams of the Left?

We once kept communists and anarchists out of our country because we felt, rightly, that their brand of totalitarianism was anathema to the culture and values of The United States of America. I see nothing different in the political philosophy of much of South, Central, and a dash of North America.

Remember 2 days ago, when McConnell was supposedly going to have a vote of Disapproval (or something) about Trump's Syria Policy? Yeah, you're never going to hear a word about that one again, either. Doesn't support the Narrative anymore, it's gone.

Because our elites want to adopt a Latin American political system, with a Latin American culture - the very rich, the very poor, and very little in between.

This is one reason I'm notso hotso about Hernan Cortes. He replaced a couple of central Mexican despotisms, which ruled by human sacrifice, with a vast slave empire, which ruled by just plain murder. The only thing saving the locals was the Church which didn't really get going there until 1531.

And then the Mexican Revolution tried to kill that too. Hence the Cristero war.

More likely even lower than that - city by city, valley by valley. Unless a government emerges that can impose central authority, power will continue to devolve. Much was made of Obrador being a socialist; but if he doesn't find a way to take control of his country after this embarrassment, then his Presidency is effectively over.

Honestly, I don't believe any democratically elected leader can fix the Mexican situation anymore. It's going to take a dictator who is willing and able to wage war on large portions of his country, and the death toll is going to be huge. *If* it happens at all, but I think devolution is more likely.

88 Chapo sons' forces engaged in direct combat with their own national military, kill squads went into action across Culiacán, slaughtering the families of soldiers engaged in the streets.

This means that Obrador is a retard as far as choosing which troops fight where. If he'd sent a team of Maya up there, a northern cartel would have no reach into their families.

90 Brace yourselves. Festivities involving Turkish proxies and Kurd militia. In areas that were, apparently, supposed to be clear of such Kurd militia under the agreement. Ooops. Also, Kurd attack on Turkish observation post near key town.

Doesn't look like general breakdown, however. Yet.

102 I doubt Mexico's central government will collapse anytime soon ... primarily because it'll just pull a willow tree-like maneuver of bend don't break and keep control of Mexico City and give up de facto control of whatever else it has to.

It'll just stop trying to rule assorted regions and/or reach tacit agreement with cartels about management/enforcement in disputed regions for now.

You may ask what's difference between "collapse" and loss of control of large swaths of its territory, but I just think of the present course as like a return to the Mexico of olden times with de facto highly decentralized government.

There have been fights about who controls the plazas along the border (he who controls the set of crossing points in a geographic area is said to control the plaza) that have spilled over into AZ recently. Texas is very familiar with that sort of fight, but AZ/MX border has been long controlled by Sinaloa and relatively peaceful. That is coming to an end.

Mexico has a caste-like system of their own. If a male can grow a beard he is considered to have more Spanish blood and has a higher status. For women it is lighter skin and larger mammaries. Males who are darker and cannot grow facial hair are considered untermenschen and are looked down on. They have more Indian blood than European.

The problem with trying to read so much in polls right now for the general election is that the results today simply won't matter in 13 months.

How will these results matter in terms of actual policy/electoral results?

The only way they could is if they end up convincing Democrats to actually vote on impeachment articles. Since they're obviously not going to do that, then the poll results are a curio at best.

They're not something to put too much emphasis on at all because of their extremely limited practical use.

166 While I doubt Mexico will actually collapse, I wouldn't mind some nice old-style imperialistic land grabbing of if it did. Baja California has some nice beaches, for example.

If we're going to end up taking in 50% of the Mexican population as "refugees," we're going to need some extra space ... or at least that's my argument/justification.

Spanish absolutism started way earlier than other European powers thanks to the royalty realizing they could seize church power and purge nobles with an Inquisition. This seems to be most of it, yeah. Spaniards didn't view colonization as a way to expand or better the locals, they saw it merely as a way for the powerful to become more wealthy. Until a thousand cartel "soldiers" (spits) show up in Brownsville, or Santa Fe, or Tucson and kill a few thousand Americans. That would of course lead to an all out invasion ala 1840's.

There's a late night show on about Texas Game Wardens, reality tv, I've caught it a few times. Entertaining and eye opening, just film of what they deal with each day. One episode featured a trip onto Lake Amisted, on the border below Del Rio, to check for poaching and other illegal activity. It detailed how *any* time the game wardens go out on the lake, they always have to have one guy with an M-16 standing watch, because people will pop up on hills near the southern banks (in Mexico) and start popping off shots at them. Not for any real reason, just because that's what they do. And when it happens, all the Wardens can do is lay down suppressing fire while they get the hell out of there.

During the filming, no shots were fired, but the cameraman zoomed a shot to the south and you could clearly see a head or two popping up and down, keeping an eye on them. That's cartel territory, the Mexican Govm't won't even try to go there.

Posted by: Cato, Collectivism Delenda Est

One of two scenarios would be relatively palatable. One would be the gov't in Mexico City (I'm reluctant to call it the "central government" at this point) requesting US military aid. This still opens up issues with who ultimately will run the areas in question, but at least it looks better. The other would be the cartels basically just making the de facto into de jure and declaring themselves governmental authorities, at which point there shouldn't be much issue with direct attacks on them, given how little respect for our borders they show. Again, even if you cleaned out the cartels, the question of who governs the affected areas still lingers, though I have the seeds of a couple of possible ideas there.

Actually, Napoleon did away with religious courts and as many land-owning religious institutions as he could, increasing middle-class access to government. In fact, German society was so horrified at this "Enlightenment" thinking, they initiated the Counter-Enlightenment via Kant and Hegel, which resulted in Nietzsche, and Marx.

And during that time Palermo was seeing 300-400 deaths a year. Which for a city the size of Palermo, 500K, is an insane amount of murders.

I was able to spend nearly a month in Guadalajara almost 20 years ago - it was a beautiful city, sad that now I'm scared to go back. Elevation is almost the same as Denver, but it's so far south that high temperature for the YEAR is about 85 degrees, and low temperature for the YEAR is in the 40's. and it's sunny every morning, and at about 4 in the afternoon every day, it clouds up and rains for one hour lightly, and then all the clouds blow away and the stars come out. 282 compare and contrast the drug cartel control of Mexico, with the DeepState control of USA. DeepState is ? largely a banking/corporate/foundation cartel imo, but with ties to the various anti-American lobbying powers that run our cities and DC. (e.g. Chicago schools on strike ... highest paid, worst skools, demanding more money from a bankrupt city in a bankrupt state)

Chicago was "outed" by Mike Royko in The Boss, yet his proteges still run Illinois, and Chicago birthed red diaper babies like Obama and Clinton. The Commies and Globalists blend into DC to hammer out deals that serve the union bosses and the "elites", serviced by the grifter Congress.

The third world invasion has been welcomed by these subversive "elite", to keep the proles busy guarding their own families. But the corruption of the skools undermine a parent's efforts on that front as well. Will a couple arrests change anything?

301 OT. I read an article on so-called "HENRY" people - "High Earner, but Not Rich Yet" in the NY Post. These are people - mostly millenials (which makes sense) - who have a high income of $100k or more but have low or no wealth.

The profiles they show are interesting. I know it is NYC and $100k there is a lot less than it would be in other places, but if the article is accurate then the big reason for high income but no wealth is behavior. The people they profile talk about living lavishly but forgoing trips, or living less lavishly in order to pay for trips.

Neither behavior gets you wealth. Living modestly *and* forgoing exotic vacations, etc. (that is, living below your means, whatever your means are - easily possible with a high income) is what allows you to accumulate wealth - unless you can truly afford to live lavishly and/or travel *while* maintaining decent savings. If not, you have to wait and let some wealth accumulate and work on your investments before living lavishly and taking the exotic trips.

It isn't fun, but it's how you get wealthy. Being affluent does not equal being wealthy - they're different things. I wonder if their parents ever told them about the distinction.

306 >>Unlike the rest of Latin America, Argentina is mostly made up of Italian immigrants. That's why they had such strong ties to Mussolini and his northern pals during WW2. They also seemed to have inherited the Italian's ability to govern themselves.

One of the more fascinating and beautiful places in South America is the Lake District in southern Chile. There is some Italian overflow from Argentina but it is largely German.

In the early 20th century Chile was desperate for immigrants so they started recruiting German immigrants and giving them generous benefits including free land. There are whole towns down there that look like they were imported from Bavaria.

Oh and Brazil is Portuguese. Treaty of Tordesillas.

Well, Texas has already been independent for 10 years, and the California territory (then including Nevada and parts of Arizona) rebelled at the outset of the war and joined the USA. They were never going to get either back, short of total victory.

What we did with the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo was basically firm up the border to eliminate disputes, and give them the equivalent of 400 billion of today's dollars in exchange for AZ, NM, UT, and CO, which were largely undeveloped at the time.

OT. I read an article on so-called "HENRY" people - "High Earner, but
Not Rich Yet" in the NY Post. These are people - mostly millenials
(which makes sense) - who have a high income of $100k or more but have
low or no wealth.

The profiles they show are interesting. I know it is NYC and $100k
there is a lot less than it would be in other places, but if the article
is accurate then the big reason for high income but no wealth is
behavior. The people they profile talk about living lavishly but
forgoing trips, or living less lavishly in order to pay for trips.

Neither behavior gets you wealth. Living modestly *and* forgoing
exotic vacations, etc. (that is, living below your means, whatever your
means are - easily possible with a high income) is what allows you to
accumulate wealth - unless you can truly afford to live lavishly and/or
travel *while* maintaining decent savings. If not, you have to wait and
let some wealth accumulate and work on your investments before living
lavishly and taking the exotic trips.

It isn't fun, but it's how you get wealthy. Being affluent does not
equal being wealthy - they're different things. I wonder if their
parents ever told them about the distinction.

Less than $1,000 saved: 18 percent
$1,000 to $4,999 saved: 12 percent
$5,000 to $9,999 saved: 6 percent
