'There hasn't been a blood test or a breath test that can determine if you're impaired by marijuana.'

I will miss my friends and family, but will visit often, but my job I really like, and I can't do it anywhere else. I also love my house, which I've worked on and made my own.
But every time Newsom does something, it means less to me.
The power outages are it for me. That's third world. I'm traveling on scouting trips every couple of weeks. I will retire in the next year and go, before the home values crater.

A burr grinder will improve all coffee. Won't have the over extraction bitterness problem.
For the truly bad coffee, it can be rescued through cold brew. The only down-side to cold brew is that it removes the "brightness" from the cup. (for those who are sensitive to acidic coffee, that is probably a plus).

I understand that. But at one time I looked at some burr grinders. Some of the prices were astronomical. Cost considered, I'll take that electric grinder and pulse it to grind the beans, thankyouverymuch. When I experienced that blackout back in '03, I put the beans in a zip lock bag and pounded them to have coffee (gas stoves FTW!). An electric coffee grinder is convenient and quick, but I know how to live without it, too.

The Guatemalan was a Full City roast. I found that the City+ didn't bring out some of the distinctive notes.
Normally I roast through first crack then based on the "smoke" and color let it run for about 15-20 seconds before cooling over 12 minutes. It is an art to do a proper roast-then-coast. Very easy to get it into Vienna range.
The Burundi was City+ though.

Pulsing a blade grinder is OK. The only problem I have with a blade grinder is over extraction of the smaller bits whereas burr makes for even sizes.
I think the difference in a light roast vs a dark roast and having a fresh bean far outweighs any taste difference between blade and ceramic burr.
Most people can't even distinguish the differences between an African or a Columbian bean so just enjoy without the bitterness.
I think the majority comments I get has nothing to do with taste, rather its about smoothness. That is just a freshness and roast level issue.

In my personal experience, I have spent some time talking with under-30 first generation Americans from Vietnamese heritage, and they have been very pro-American and patriotic.
Somalians, on the other hand, won't even engage in conversation for the most part.
I am guessing at least 40 points difference in IQ.

I have two of those. There is sort of a ritualized Zen in grinding the beans by hand before brewing. I imagine that there are other people around the world do the exact same thing at the same time.
Great for travel of for offices that don't have the common decency of being equipped with a coffee grinder on premises.

I've thought about getting into roasting, simply because it's hard to find good New Guinea coffee consistently. Peet's and Cartel Coffee in Phoenix (great coffee, terrible name) have it sometimes. Of course, then I'd have to source the beans.

I use a grinder daily. I'm not buying kitchen art. Electric grinders are cheap and easily replaceable; I'm on my second one as the first one melted after about 20 years. Besides, I've herd that those burr grinders need 'sharpening' and that sounds like a pain.

My first toast was a five dollar air pop corn popper and a wooden spoon.
Plugged in the air popper to a long extension cord so that the voltage would drop and the popper would be at the right temperature for roasting. Then put in about two ounces of green beans, let it sit there while it heats up. The beans, if the right amount is put in, will start to roll then as the moisture is extracted will start to tumble. Just keep stirring while the silver skin flakes off and blows out (I was doing this in the driveway so as not make a mess). Stir through first crack, count another twenty seconds or so and pour out the hot beans into a collander to cool.
Better than a coffee shop - and makes the neighbors wonder. (smells great too)

The burr grinder sounds nice and exotic, and I will probably try one, but I pulse the electric grinder for 5 seconds, stir the ground beans, wait about 25 seconds and repeat two or three times. Not perfect but it seems to work fairly well, it just does not grind all the beans completely!

FWIW, I've never had to sharpen the burrs. I don't even know how you'd sharpen a ceramic grinder. At $30 for going on five years (of which it was used daily at work for three years), it might as well be disposable.

Some things are just worth doing right. And it's not just the grinder, it's the beans. Does the store where one buys beans have a brisk business, i.e., turnover of product?
I get my beans from a store in Manhattan that's been in business for over 100 years. Their coffee doesn't sit around so it's always fresh; pre-ground coffee goes stale/flat quicker than whole beans. I found a couple of flavors (countries) and blends I like and the coffee is wonderful. Some people think of coffee as a caffeine need, just get some into their body, but I appreciate a good cup of coffee like I appreciate a good snort of 18-year-old Johnny Jameson Irish Whiskey.
Canned (or plasticed) coffee, to me, is like canned potatoes. Yes they exist. But why?

Probably because it is a short season and you don't want them storing it near the coast in warehouses.
Usually harvest for New Guinea is in the spring with the arrivals into the US around now or early winter.

Actually, there are a couple of places in the suburbs that slow cook excellent brisket around here. At least one of them had relocated from the Lone Star State. The other is a buddy of mine who has gone nuts with his smoker, built on a trailer that he tows with his 4x4 Ram 2500. I think the smoker costs more than the damn truck.
He uses apple wood and cherry wood from Wenatchee.

I wonder who got the bags marked with the 'X'. Those are roasted from a Geisha variety. Pretty danged expensive bean (compared to the Arabica) but they are noticeable for their Earl Gray tones.
I think pretty much the best I can get score wise from an Arabica bean is between 83 and 89. The Geishas can have cup scores in the 90s.

The San Francisco Chronicle has an article on the measures that Qatar is taking to cool soccer fans, which is necessary because of global warming, of course.
I excitedly read the article, waiting for the statement that is mandatory when talking about global warming in a particular place, and I was not disappointed.
"Qatar is one of the fastest warming areas of the world, at least outside of the Arctic," said Zeke Hausfather, a climate data scientist at Berkeley Earth, a nonprofit temperature analysis group.
It is a central tenant of the climate priests that everwhere is warming faster than the global average.
The article did notice in passing that the warming might have something to do with the fact that Doha, the capital, went from sparsely populated desert to big city, with lots of asphalt and concrete laid down that warms the local environment, but that effect is obviously trivial compared to gerbil warbeling.

Pulsing a blade grinder is OK. The only problem I have with a blade grinder is over extraction of the smaller bits whereas burr makes for even sizes.
I think the difference in a light roast vs a dark roast and having a fresh bean far outweighs any taste difference between blade and ceramic burr.
Most people can't even distinguish the differences between an African or a Columbian bean so just enjoy without the bitterness.
I think the majority comments I get has nothing to do with taste, rather its about smoothness. That is just a freshness and roast level issue.

I had a Capresso combination grinder & brewer. It cost $300 & shot craps pretty fast.
When it died, I bought a Cuisinart at Kohl's for $75. It works better; makes better coffee; & seems to be very rugged. And it's much easier to clean & maintain, too. It's so light weight, I thought, "This thing can't be any good-- it feels like a plastic toy."

Have not considered roasting coffee beans just yet, but do enjoy trying different local roasted items - the craft roasting thing has taken off fairly well, though of course not matching the beer situation.
And for afternoon coffee I've long enjoyed a variety of approaches. Vietnamese [cold or iced], Lebanese/Turkish style, or just French press or single pour-over [blade grinder for the latter two, but will look into the burr kind].
Used to have a great espresso maker, want to get another one.

I went through Airborne School as an O-3 and the Blackhats were bound and determined to try to get me to quit, punishing me hard for every infraction in my stick. I knew it was a head game and every time they gave me 50 I tried to answer with a smile, no matter how much I was hurting. After about three days of riding me hard they saw they weren't going to break me and they backed off. I had nothing but absolute respect for them. Best run school in the Army.

Tell me about it. I hit the heart attack lottery. I had a silent one; 15% of the heart attack population have silent ones, that is, no elephant sitting on your chest, no tingling in the left arm, nothing. So having heart attack symptoms is a good thing since it can be treated early. Didn't know I was having a heart attack for months, until the effects manifested themselves into what I thought was a bad case the flu. Permanent scarring of my heart which affects the electrical impulses across the heart to make it beat; the heart attack reduced my heart function to 25%, which I've gotten up to 50%, and that's about the max it will ever be. Now I have a pace maker with defib paddles (an ICD). Sucker's fired 10 times -- with no warning given. Better that, though, than being on the wrong side of the ground. If I'd have had my heart attack 20 years prior to when mine was diagnosed, I would not have survived as long as I have now (13 years).
Modern medicine is a God-send.

It isn't right, and neither is the dice calculator. I sorted it out. 59.78 was a typo - I meant 50.78. But I was working from an assumption of 10, because I didn't know the pool. Then I remembered that it's necessary to know the total number of judges, because probabilities change based on total selection, as it's iterative.
If you read down, I sussed out the equation you need, but you must know the total number of judges. Your question is missing information.
And I'm a dumdum, because fractionals don't work for this type of problem, anyway. You can't hack a judge in half.

Define thing precisely. Do you want the number of panels with at least two Rs, which would include those with three, or those with just two Rs.
The total number is easy. It's defined as the combination function, C(n, r), which means the number of unique combinations of n things taken 'r' at the time.
That is n!/(r!(n - r)!) where ! is the factorial.
That's your denominator. Now, the numerator is the subset of those with 2 (or at least two) of the class you want.

when I entered US Navy boot camp at 20, I was on the buddy program so had a childhood friend in my company.
Well, I was a Pole Vaulter in High School and College, so needless to say the early pushups were not an issue ( we used to do hand stand push ups as part of our practice).
About week 3 of boot camp, we were told to drop and give 50, and I just pumped them out, BUT
My buddy looked over at me and smiled. When the Petty Officer in charge saw and asked him why he was smiling, he told them that I was a had gone to a State Championship for Vaulting, and could do push ups all day.
BASTARD.
I ended up doin THOUSANDS of more push ups than the rest of my company, because, I could.
And yes, I am still in contact with my 'buddy', and still give him SHIT about that.

I'm not a pilot, but I've played a lot of flight simulators on teh 'puter, and lowering the flaps for landing appears to be SOP for any aircraft -- I don't know about the B-17...
The jackscrews for the flaps survived the fire (I think), and were definitely in the retracted position, IIRC, so I'm going with a stall on approach as the cause...

I was just looking. The number of appeals judges on a circuit court is not constant, but varies with circuit. The 9th has the most, 29 judges. It is roughly, but not exactly proportional to population in the circuit geography. The DC and "Federal" circuit are different and two sort of special cases.

If the jackscrews for the flaps were retracted, that seems to me to be definitive. The nature of jackscrews is such that they pretty much have to be motored (or hand-cranked) in order to move. Impact or vibration is unlikely to move them, and it's unlikely that electrical power to retract them would be available, should the switches be jammed in the "retract" position upon impact.
Makes one wonder if flaps were lowered by pilot in command, and then raised again by co-pilot, in the mistaken belief that he was lowering them. Or the other way around?

My brain is not full in gear, but me think about this. We'll go with N, total number of judges, 26. Nr = 18, Nd = 8.
Now, we want the number of 3-judge panels with at least two Rs. So, for our first two choices, we must choose only from Nr. So we get Nr*(Nr - 1) number. Now, for the third choice, we pick from any available of the remaining judges, which is N - 2.
So, according to that reasoning, the number of such picks is thus Nr*(Nr-1)*(N - 2).
Now, the r! will cancel in the ratio, so I get our final answer as:
Nr*(Nr - 1)*(N-2) / [ (N*(N-1)*(N-2) ]
(N - 2) cancels
For N = 26, Nr = 18, we get:
18*17/(26*25) = 47.1%

Ah. So the numbers I was looking at are the "active status" judges or something. The senior ones are sort of retired, but can still be called on when needed, I assume.

Most of the moonbats live on Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland, which includes the entire urban sprawl of Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and precious little else. Put the boundary line on the Fraser River a mile downstream of the town of Hope. All lands drained by the Fraser River, and its tributaries downstream of that point would belong to the rump of B.C., along with Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands. There would be a fair slice of virtually uninhabited Coast Mountains included in the package.

There's something bothering me about that last reason. It can't be the probability for a R majority is less than 50%. Let's do it the long way.
There are four possibilities for 3 judge panels, 3 Rs, 3Ds, or 2R-1D, and 1R-2D.
Number of three Rs is 18*17*16 = 4896.
Number of three Ds is 8*7*6 = 336.
Number of 2Rs and 1D is 18*17*8 = 2448

Total there is 8688. So, the ratio of majority R to total is 84.5%.
Total number of 3 out of 26 is 26*25*23 = 15,600.

So many pet peeves. I get majorly annoyed when Troy Aikman throws in the word "what" for no reason. He is smart and speaks well in general. But he will repeatedly says things such as "He didn't try as what he should". That is a bad example but if you listen for it, you will hear it over and over. And in every instance, if you deleted the "what" the meaning of the sentence would not change.
I probably have ticks I don't notice as well. I am not a big net poster and for some reason I let some Millennial speak creep in for some reason.

I will buy a bag of Halloween Candy but I make sure it is stuff I like. We haven't had trick or treaters hit our neighborhood for a number of years. I think the tradition is dying out. They all go to big Halloween parties now.

Plus they do a Halloween on the Square thing that draws most of the kids into Town. Concentrated candy there. We team up with the VA and bring dozens of bags of candy to pass out.

I would say that without that facility, fatal shootings would jump by probably 20% here.
But as I have often said, from my rather unscientific viewpoint, shootings in Chicago seem to be emotionally driven on the spot responses to something.

Understood. I'm running a fully loaded Dell 5530 which is Dell's answer to Apple's best notebook. With business discounts and other considerations, it is still the price of a used car.
I have the M3800, which in the day was another top performer six years ago, it still runs very well but parts are made out of unobtainium - which includes the battery.
I would recommend a refurbished computer through eBay. You get the performance at a substantial discount.

LOL, my first computer was a Kaypro. I paid $2,000 for it with a whopping 256K memory. It also had that god-awful CP/M operating system that wasn't compatible with anything.
