The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I really believe sincerely – the climate that we’re in today – if the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments of the United States Constitution, were put before the public today, I’m not too sure that we would hold onto the Bill of Rights. Especially when I see what people are doing with the Second Amendment and no telling what they would do with the First Amendment. Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC)

Quote II

“There’ll be no more. I said that last time but this time, I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now.” Alexis Brett

Quote III

"The prosecutor's sole authority to determine which cases to prosecute, and when not to pursue a prosecution, has been affirmed repeatedly by this court since the beginning of the nineteenth century," Justice Frank Ganziano

Quote IV

“I spent years growing and developing and investing in my fan base, and they just took it away in a flash. It’s nice to have a little private chat with my gold star homies but I can’t make a career out of a handful of people like that. I can’t put food on the table this way. Milo Yiannopoulos

Quote V

“I’ve been going over my not-a-bill bill here from Blue Cross Blue Shield, and realizing that once again, all of my mental health therapy sessions are denied, in addition to all of our marriage counseling sessions,” Amanda Cunningham

Not my idea of a truck. Then again to each their own. But, will it haul a boat or get through the snow of the frozen tundra?

The Tesla pickup truck, described by Elon Musk as “the coolest car I’ve ever seen,” is now looking at a November reveal at the earliest, according to a tweet from the Tesla CEO. The science-fiction inspired electric pickup truck had been expected to arrive this summer, or October at the latest, based on previous statements made by the notoriously optimistic Musk.

Beyond an early concept image of a pickup shown at the unveiling of the Tesla Semi in 2017 and an image tweeted in May, little is known about the Tesla pickup truck.

A Texas man demonstrates why it is imperative to research your future spousal unit. Man ORDERED to pay spousal support to bigamist ‘wife,’ faces imprisonment

Mark Athans, 56 believes he and Charity Lenee Parchem, 42, were never legally married since she was married to at least one other man at the time of their marriage.

The Texas man refused to give her the $73,000 in spousal support and attorneys fees per court order. He is now facing a year-and-a-half in prison for not paying the bigamist.

Mr. Athans is the sole support of his youngest son who is autistic, and he is worried about losing his job.

The amount he owes this two-timing woman is now up to $96,000 in support and lawyers’ fees.

Before Lenny Bruce. Before George Carlin There was James Joyce’s Ulysses

It was not the book’s flamboyant modernism, however, that shocked and repulsed Mansfield and other early readers, among them Virginia Woolf, George Bernard Shaw, W.B. Yeats, and, of all people, D.H. Lawrence, who called its celebrated final chapter, “Penelope,” “the dirtiest, most indecent, obscene thing ever written.” Critics were not scandalized by the way Joyce represented his protagonists by means of discontinuous interwoven strands of interior monologue and sensory perception, nor by his narrowing of the massive novel’s action to the span of a single June day in 1904. And when the upstanding bullies of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice (NYSSV) had intervened in 1921 to bring federal charges against The Little Review after it published the novel’s “Nausicaa” chapter—ensuring that Ulysses was thereafter effectively banned in the US—it was not because they objected to Joyce’s depicting Homer’s lissome Phaeacian nymph as a disabled working-class young Irishwoman or bold Odysseus as a timorous middle-aged Jewish seller of newspaper ads.

Florida "child" is Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

For "College Colors Day", Laura Snyder, his teacher at Altamonte Elementary School, says her student drew a "U.T." on paper and pinned it to an orange t-shirt.

"When the day finally arrived, he was SO EXCITED to show me his shirt," Snyder wrote on Facebook. "I was impressed that he took it one step further to make his own label."

By lunch he was in tears.

"Some girls at the lunch table next to his (who didn't even participate in college colors day) had made fun of his sign that he had attached to his shirt. He was DEVASTATED," said Snyder.

Biden "Red-Eye" - Hilldawg: 99.8%
Egg McMuffin: 0.2%
Tonald Drumpf: -69%

I'm pretty sure that if she were diagnosed with a serious mental health disorder, they'd cover treatment. People who want to spend a fortune whining to a therapist because their lives aren't perfect can pay for it themselves.

I test drove one, and I finally figured out why the drivers drive like they do. The whole dash - where there would normally be a speedometer and tachometer and fuel gauge - is a huge efficiency scoreboard. If you drive it for any length of time, you find yourself trying to peak all the meters and get the high score on driving efficiency so the secret compartment opens up and starts spewing Cash Money And Fabulous Prizes, and you get to put your initials in the top score list.

So Bishop underperformed Trump in a special?

There were THREE special elections in 2012, & the GOP outperformed Zero in all three by over 20%...

Bottomline: Stick your "underperformed" troll-point where the moon don't shine.

This. In 2018 the Harris guy "won" by 905 votes, with allegations of vote farming/vote fraud (which also may be how he won the primary to become the Republican nominee in the first place). This time Bishop won by 4000, without any funny business. Seems like a good sign for 2020.

340 There's numerous fans of the classic 1980s series Blackadder here, right?

I was reading about how it was actually a series of series on the BBC, re that show, and that the very last one, "Blackadder Goes Forth," had a very sad ending. It was mentioned at Quo... at another site I read, there the topic was, TV shows that had great, terrible, sad and/or disturbing endings.

Anyway, anyone here see the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth?

My motivation for cooking is different, and simpler, I guess. I like to eat, but I like to eat GOOD food and I hate crap. And just about anything pre-made or processed is crap. So when I go to a good, high end restaurant, I get one of their signature dishes, and I pay attention to how they put it together and what flavors and spices they use. And then I go home and recreate it, and I"ve gotten decent at it. I love omelettes, I cook omelettes a couple times a week just because I love omelettes, and I've actually done it enough that I can knock one out pretty fast, just like a short order cook.

so that's why I cook.

"We still believe that, and we believe that McCready’s opponent in this special election, Republican Dan Bishop, has shown himself unfit to represent the 9th. Bishop is the unrepentant author of HB2, a discriminatory law that cost Charlotte and North Carolina millions of dollars in business and lost events.

Bishop also has embraced the Trump presidency. He vows to help the president build his wall at the southern border. He is far less likely than McCready to provide a check on the president — and far more likely to mirror his fellow Republicans’ silence at Trump’s reckless words and policies."

400 Anyway, anyone here see the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth?
Posted by: qdpsteve at September 10, 2019 10:52 PM (L2ZTs)

First, I have had all of Blackadder on DVD for years, it's one of the best British comedies ever made, at its peaks even better then Python. Everyone dies at the end of the first series, and the second series, but in the 3rd series he actually has a good ending and moves up in the world.

But the ending of the 4th series is astounding, it is wrong to call it "sad" - it is, of course, but it is so much more. There's a reason it has been voted one of the best single episodes of any BBC series, ever. It is absolutely amazing, both for fans and even for those who just watch a bit. It achieves something almost impossible - a slapstick comedy that suddenly becomes Transcendent, and sucks the breath right out of you.

Blackadders whole M.O. was to take historical periods and play them for laughs - Wars of the Roses, Elizabethan, George IV, and WW1. You go through the 4th series and the absurdities of that war are laid out, and played for laughs, and then they get to the end, and suddenly there is no more slapstick, no more laughs, they face the fact that they are all about to die for nothing, that an entire generation of idealistic young English men are about to die for nothing, and no one can change it or stop it. And in the end, there's nothing funny about it at all. They leave, on their final charge, and the final scene freezes, and then slowly, changes into a scene of green Flanders Fields today, with the poppies blooming. It just sits there, quietly, no words, just showing us the poppies for the longest time.

the end.

It makes me want to cry every time I see it; I think it makes everyone want to cry.

Somewhat similar; although I believe what makes the ending of "Black Adder goes Forth" so powerful is that you've been watching it as a comedy, as entertaining fiction - and suddenly, in the last 5 to 10 minute, they capture the horrible reality of that entire war, and you get gut-punched with the realization that this really IS what happened, that this just quit being fiction, and you're being shown Truth on a level that most of us work very hard to avoid ever seeing. It was no longer just a story, it was real, and millions of real lives ended in that place in exactly that way. And you've been caught up with these characters that you've grown to like, and through them you feel just how monstrous and horrible and insane that entire war was.

479 459 443 Pick a loa that lines up with your interests. Draw its sign (also known as a veve) in chalk on the ground - somewhere close to nature. You want the blood from the sacrifice to end up in the middle of your veve. Perform an ecstatic dance of revelry and chant while imbibing any strong natural drug. If it takes, the spirit of the loa should be with you. A weak loa is a passenger. A strong one will want to be in the driver's seat.

One night during the wee hours (about 3:30 a.m.), our dog woke me up and let me know that she *urgently* wanted to go out. It was late fall, the trees mostly empty, it was cold, about 40 deg.

I pulled on some jeans, a t-shirt, shoes and jacket, and out we went. We went down a parkway trees on both sides, not a light, or even a house in sight. Full-ish moon, but overcast, so there was light, but no direct light.

I swear, I expected the headless horseman to come galloping up the road at any moment. It looked just like that photo.

I immediately stopped and walked over to offer help. There followed one hell of a conversation. Turned out he had been aboard the San Jacinto. Different flight than Bush's, but same ship.

Turns out that during training, he had spent time with George Gay.

I could have talked to the guy all day. Grizzled old bugger, but sharp as a tack.

Couldn't help with the truck, something deep inside wrong with the starting system, but lent him my phone to call his son.

Talk about dark. We did night patrol practice through those forests. NVGs amplify ambient infrared light and render it in a visible spectrum. So starlight, moonlight, any ambient light at all will help.

Those Damn woods were so thick the goggles didn't work. No ambient light got through. I did one march following the two tan 2 quart canteen covers the guy in front of me was carrying on his rucksack. NVGs on or off-- only thing I could see.

545 Mike H., that truly is awesome. I rarely let an obvious WWII vet get away without a question or a thank-you, but there was that time the guy with the "Pearl Harbor survivor" special license plate was at a stop light in my neighborhood, and I considered following him home and trying to talk with him, but thought better of it.

Used to "find" WWII vets often at a place I volunteer, but that's stopped. Did a few Library of Congress Veterans' History Project interviews with a few. One guy - in incredible shape, musta been 19 or so during the war, had a P-47 cap on. Joked that "I hope you didn't get shot down, those planes were supposed to be near invincible". "I did!" he replied with a laugh. Very late, March '45 I think. He thinks there was a lucky hit on an oil line, as he saw his engine oil pressure just sink [as I recall].

Was put in a Luftstalag close to the one that was the site of the Great Escape. He said he had it quite easy - the Allies were just over the hill, Fritz was everybody's friend, Red Cross goodies were plentiful, worst part was the razzing from the guys who'd been behind wire for 3 years and more.

I need some exspurt mechanical engineering consultation, here. My damn brand new Husqvarna lawn mower, which had 12.2 hours on it this morning, commenced to throwing off it's deck drive belt.

It was running fine, and the only thing I did was grease up the spindles and front wheels, which the schedule calls for every 10 hours.

The dew had burned off by 11AM, so I was going to be good and get it all done before it got really hot. I started out, and the mower seemed to shake a little bit. Then, less than 15' in, she tossed the drive belt right off.

Well, hell. I got off, looked and realized I was going to have to take the Ralph Nader plastic shields off to get the belt fed back in right. It seemed to have twisted.

I put it back on, and then went again. Again, about 15' and she tossed it again. The belt seemed very hot now.

The damn thing has these safety switches on the seat where you can get off when it's running. I wanted to watch the belt and see if I could see anything. I put it on a third time, and it tossed it right off.

I pulled the belt completely off. Now, this is a brand new belt with 12.2 hours on it. It was too hot to hold without gloves. The damned thing was distorted and had a bad twist tendency in it. That was it. I checked all the pulleys, and nothing was out of whack.

I found a new belt locally ($50 -- could've ordered online for $40, but it would've taken 3 days).

So I'm wondering just what the hell happened. The only thing I can figure is maybe trash on top of the deck, getting wedged up tight under the shield. Or maybe a stick bounced up and got caught just right and did something screwy to it.

The new belt is running fine. Takes a load and runs smooth as it can be.

A friend of mine was shot down over N. VN while flying an F-105. Spent a year in the Hanoi Hilton. He never talks about it, and I don't ask. It's the same with most Vets, really.

IR LEDs are dirt cheap.

An enterprising fellow could no doubt put remote-controlled arrays of these at useful locations about his premises, so as to illuminate unwanted visitors without giving away his own position.

I am sure that Uncle Sam has these, and am also sure that you could build your own for a thousandth of what Uncle pays for them.

I don't think the belt was slipping. No squeal, nor smell, nor no noticeable drop in speed of the mower blades. It would cut as pretty as ever for 15' until it tossed the belt.

I think the heat was due to the distorted, twisting tendency it had.

I've got it right here. It's definitely not right. In one spot, it's as though it stretched on one side, and not on the other, making the think want to twist.

I wish I couldve watched it toss one, but with the safety switches, I'd have to have someone sit on it while I watched it run.

I listened to the whole thing. Team Milano (it was Ted Cruz vs three gun-grabbers) admitted that they all had good intentions and that it was good to talk. But no, no one gave an inch, and Team Milano was left with an action item -- to ask Democrats why they filibustered the Cruz-Grassley Act -- which I'm not sure they'll follow up on. They were mostly emotional and biased, attributing the polarization of the times to racism and white nationalism.

But it was civil, restrained, better than nothing. No one can claim Cruz wouldn't even talk.

I've been looking at that belt again. I carefully followed the bad spot. There seems to be a knot, or kink in it, right near the seam where it was joined together.

Could indeed be a defective belt. Anyway, that knot let one side of the belt stretch more than the other, producing a twisty tendency. That's why it was throwing it. The thing would twist and likely walk itself right out of a pulley.

Now, question is why it did that. Defective Chinese belt, or some insult.

I love cooking, and I'm getting pretty good at it after trying really hard, for a couple of years.

But now that I've been cooking, it takes a long time to eat. Unless it's something that MUST be eaten right off the heat, like steak or grilled shellfish, I have to wait for 30min or 1hr to enjoy it, because the cooking work/smelling/tasting ruins my appetite.

-----

I've been cooking for the family since I was 12, which was . . . a long time ago. I have this problem when I do a complicated, special meal, like Thanksgiving. Just everyday stuff for people normally there is not much of a problem.

So, you will probably get over it, except for big to-do's.

I'll probably be changing it beginning next season with the new blade change.

I once enjoyed a boarding of a Floating Dry Dock at Ballast Point, San Diego.

'Bout 1974.

Her charge was the Bathyscape Treiste, the first vessel to have ever made a manned dive to the Challenger Deep, in the Marianas Trench.

My guide was Chief of Boat on another Ballast Point sub. And the closest I got to the Treiste, was the walkway around the submergence bay on the dry dock ship.

But, I got to see the Treiste, at about a 50 ft. view.

Didn't get to take a single photo though. Camera bag SERIOUSLY stayed down in the car. For all the reasons.

604 Jim the floating dry-dock for subs is still there, at Ballast Point. They put up a huge curtain over the back/open end when a sub's in there.

And after 9/11, 18 years ago tomorrow, they put in a chain of huge plastic sausages that ring the sub docks [have them around the carriers on North Island too]. Prior to that? You could cruise pretty close to the docks, exchange waves with the armed sentries atop the docks/subs.

October 2OO1, cruising by on a friend's boat, we were surprised that a zodiac with a pintle-mounted machine gun and 4 energetic young guys in lots of gear zoomed up to us as we headed out to Ralph's [spot that only breaks on a south swell, need a boat to get there, tucked just inside the approach to the harbor]. They asked our business, we told them and offered them beers, which they said they'd love but, ya know. Aboard a friend's Reinell 26 sloop, we sailed to within 50 ft. of an outbound Fast Attack boat, out of Ballast Point.

We joined on her just after the tug had cast off lines, but well before the Pilot Boat charged forth at the tip of Point Loma.

For a moment, we kept pace with the sub at about three knots, but then she dialed up the RPMs, and soon left us in her wake.

Which sub? Who knows. All of her sail markings were painted over, and this was VERY pre-9/11.

Can tell you for damn sure though. Back in those days, that meant that she was standing out for an Operational Patrol, and not just some offshore day trip for training.

I had a full bag of Nikon F2-A gear aboard, and burned through a couple rolls of film in the doing.

Alas, divorce and a flood of Hurricane Ike in '08, I have nothing left, thereof.

I got photos too, of a fully exposed sub in the floating drydock you've described.

300mm Nikkor f/4.5

Pics of that prop now, would be a Security Violation.

But those pics, and my entire library of pics, went under 5' of saltwater out in the garage, thanks to "Ike".

That was about 1992 or thereabouts.

An entirely different era and age.

I see that Republicans won both of those "special elections" in NC that Eric the Corrupt Holder had ordered redistricting to make it easier for Democrats to win based on BS racism charges. The Republican won the supposed "toss-up" district by 11 points. Holder's plan was to include part of Charlotte in that district to make it easier for Democrat liars.

706 September 11th.

We got lucky. Even if the hijackers were not stopped by those security people or the police in their traffic stops, as known wolves.

The towers held together long enough to get most out. A tribute to sound design, solid Union workmanship, and heroes leading people out of the buildings.

If the attack was later in the morning, the towers hit lower, and the towers fell quickly, that is 70,000 dead. A nuke hit level of dead.

Plus the Pentagon had one wall (of 5) just upgraded in strength. The wall the jet hit. Could have been a lot worse there.

And finally, the brave passengers and crew of Flight 93 fought back, and stopped 25% of the attack, when the Air Force was not effective in stopping any of it.

That day is vivid in my memory. I will never forget.

717 By lunch he was in tears.

"Some girls at the lunch table next to his (who didn't even participate in college colors day) had made fun of his sign that he had attached to his shirt. He was DEVASTATED," said Snyder.

The most important lesson I learned in public school is that, in general, people are garbage. It's nice that there was a happy ending for this particular story, though.

718 Morning y'all.

Rough day yesterday. Cleaning lady found one of ms mouse's best friends dead in the house. No immediate family nearby, so we're watching the property until they get here...

719 44 Sept. 11. Won't ever forget that feeling of horror, disbelief, and sadness . Haven't looked yet for other people's memories. It never gets easier.

Still pisses me off that we responded to that attack by importing millions more muzzies, giving them special rights and privileges and making them a "protected class" so that now we have arrogant, ignorant, hostile muzzie a-holes like Ilhan Elmi, aka Omar, sitting in our congress and twatting about how the U.S. Marines murdered in Somalia had it coming to them. And that a majority of the U.S. electorate elected Barack Hussein Obama as U.S. president, a man who boasted about his muzzie upbringing, and who still to this day claims that islamic terrorism is caused by lack of education, jobs and economic opportunities (which translates into: "pay us more tribute, infidels!").

Is it any wonder that the muzzies wanted to erect a victory mosque on NYC's ground zero? They tried to destroy us in the name of islam, and we basically stepped up and finished the job for them as soon as the smoke from the towers had cleared.

721 I met a WWII vet sporting a CV-2 cap once. Not CV-12 or CV-22 just 2 which was the Lexington. I was gobsmacked. He had survived the Battle of Coral Sea I acted like a fanboi at a SciFi convention gush.

He was just as surprised that any one of my age knew what CV-2 meant. This made me quite pleased with my self at the time but after sad that so little had any idea what he had been through.

Maybe, if we just give them our lunch money, they'll leave us alone.

723 So very nice of MisHum to link us to various leftwing rag sites like Vice - calling Milo a "rightwing troll" in a hack piece. I absolutely HATE giving those valuable clicks. On mobile, theres no way to preview the link beforehand. It would be so very easy for MisHum to provide a basic description of the link after the quote, and I assume he's not stupid, so I assume his intention is to drive clicks. I suppose that means skipping his content entirely which sucks. This is a war for traffic and he is not helping the right at all.

Then threw him over the fence into a factory farm hog pen and ring the dinner bell

In an ideal world.
However, with Obama and Holder we would have watched him tried in civilian court, manipulating the process with a sleazy CAIR-funded lawyer.
