Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, September 8, 2019. One this day in 1930 Scotch tape was first marketed by 3M corporation. Scotch tape got its name from its inventor from around 1925 while Richard Drew was testing his first masking tape to determine how much adhesive he needed to add. The bodyshop painter became frustrated with the sample masking tape and exclaimed, "Take this tape back to those Scotch bosses of yours and tell them to put more adhesive on it!" 'Scotch' being a negative description of 'cheap' people.

Young girl from University of GA killed while evacuating Savannah in front of Hurricane Dorian. This highlights the statistical probability that some people will be killed in an evacuation. I recall this came up during a discussion we had during a training session involving an accident with a release of nuclear material and when to recommend an evacuation of the areas the plume is traveling and the calculated dose rates at ground level. Those calculations were super conservative and probably grossly over estimated the actual dose people would receive. We did not order an evacuation, we made a recommendation to the governor to evacuate but did not order it ourselves. And this statistical probability is the reason.

This is BS, here is no intent to 'impede' Trump challengers. Primaries for a run for President of a sitting President are a waste of time and big money. I was reading about young Feynman at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. He was a young whippershapper. Neils Bohr, although he never like Feynman personally, would call Feynman in to run things up the flag pole. All the other physicists there were so in awe of Bohr, they wouldn't dare challenge him, but Feynman wasn't afraid to tell Bohr he was full of shit. Which he was, and we all are. Feynman spoke with a heavy NYC accent and Bohr said he "talked like a bum". I 'powered through' mine for the last 5 years. Had to use a cane on some days, and didn't ride the hog because I didn't want to fall over at some stop light. It went out for good while I was on the golf course. Fortunately, it was on the 16th hole so no great loss (I damn sure wasn't shooting par). Seriously, it will be one of the best things you've ever done for yourself and you'll wish you'd had it done a lot earlier. Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at September 08, 2019 06:34 AM (BrRAn) 29

Thank O'Barky for your assistance in destroying our medical system. Personal experience with an older physician, gifted orthopedic surgeon that did SiL's hip replacement, really cared about his patients, working in a rural area, quit because of all the onerous regulations imposed by the prog scum on him and his office. Now, that rural area has one less surgical option, an office staff out of work, but after all they're all deplorables out there in flyover country, and on the upside they do have a new surgeon with a degree from the medical college of the Dominican Republic (and a green card). Security light between my house and the church next door. Saw the guys running across the church lawn to the dark side. Here comes the first car driving by looking for them. The one I saw came around the church into the light. He had his back to me as he was peeking around the corner to watch the cop drive by. I called 911 while he was standing there. He slipped back into the dark with the other guy.
I got out two of my closest guns. One of the cops pulled in my driveway. I walked out to describe what I saw. I did have the good sense to walk out to talk to him unarmed. Unbeknownst to almost everyone, the major Taliban leaders and, separately, the President of Afghanistan, were going to secretly meet with me at Camp David on Sunday. They were coming to the United States tonight. Unfortunately, in order to build false leverage, they admitted to.. ....an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great great soldiers, and 11 other people. I immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations. What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position? They didn’t, they... ....only made it worse! If they cannot agree to a ceasefire during these very important peace talks, and would even kill 12 innocent people, then they probably don’t have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway. How many more decades are they willing to fight? Morning all...and Happy Birthday Hadrian! Posted by: Amy Klobuchar at September 08, 2019 08:06 AM (cF8AT) 119

64 Security light between my house and the church next door.
Greetings!
I'm pleased to say that each day brings a little more resiliency and energy after the myocarditis hit me last Monday. Still, the limits are real. I tuned in at the end of the Army-Michigan game and normally would have enjoyed the schadenfreude of watching a hated rival stumble and bumble against a service academy, but instead my heart was pounding like mad. I had to turn it off and go for a very slow, relaxing walk. An amble, perhaps a mosey. Anyway, same thing happens when my wife or kids try to argue with me. I'm literally doing the Fred Sanford thing and holding my chest as the pressure builds. So I've got some distance to cover, yet. I'm also drinking less ![]() On the plus side, I did enjoy watching football that I didn't care about, which was nice, and the healthier food I'm eating is actually a nice change of pace. In other news...
The day after I came home, I was awakened at 5 a.m. by my youngest daughter screeeeaming her head off that there was a bat in the room. I get to her room and there is in fact a bat flying in circles over her bed. I raced to the garage to retrieve a Tennis Racket of Bat-Catching (+5 vs flying mammals) and a Bath Towel of Protection (+2 AC vs small pests). My fearless middle daughter backed me up with a bludgeon. We went in the room, but the bat was no longer flying around. Ushering out the younger daughter, we conducted our patrol. I quickly spotted the bat clinging to the dresser, and handed my daughter the racket, whilst I moved in with the towel. The bat evaded my grab but my daughter remained cool and hit the bat clean, knocked it to the floor and pinning it with the racket. We moved the live specimen to a container and - in due time - brought it to the lab for testing. It was healthy and Youngest Daughter was spared the rabies protocol. She was born screaming, broke her arm while a toddler as a daredevil biker. In fact, more broken bones than the rest of the family combined (usually fingers). In addition to the bat, killed a mouse with a fencing saber a couple of years ago. When the screen door was propped open, she demanded it be shut and proceeded to wrench it right off the wall in her fury. She was 6 at the time. She has super powers. No question of that. I know the Redskins are advertising their tickets on the boob tube, something that never would have happened 10 years ago. hogmartin --
I didn't click the recipe, but I'm assuming you take ground lamb meat and roll them into balls, , like making meatballs out of lamb, right? Posted by: FireHorse at September 08, 2019 09:08 AM (jh17W) 205
Yeah, the recipe says "lamb sausage", but I think that's just because they're too squeamish to say "lamb balls". They're effin' meatballs, that's all. But with sumac/za'atar and some other middle eastern spices. Gonna try 'em today.

When I used to set out near sundown in the backyard I would see bats all the time flying around the yard. Should not kill them as they are useful creatures.
Posted by: Vic at September 08, 2019 09:11 AM (mpXpK) 207
They aren't stuffed into a casing, so it offends my sense of propriety to mislabel them 'sausages'.

Should not kill them as they are useful creatures.
Posted by: Vic at September 08, 2019 09:11 AM (mpXpK) Yes. It took years of tedious, frustrating, ultimately rewarding hand-rearing and training, but I've finally got all the bats here eating bugs (especially nuisance bugs). But if it comes to a kid, sorry, bat goes. They're not asymptomatic carriers and very rarely (0.01 probability) have rabies, but there's no cure and it's not worth the risk. I think there's one recorded case of someone surviving rabies, ever. Posted by: hogmartin will be sad if you don't register for the fall MIMoMe at September 08, 2019 09:16 AM (t+qrx) 210
OK, got it. That's one of the advantages of our language in effect having two parent languages -- a lot of our words have a Germanic root and a Latin root. Like "pig" and "pork" -- but the meanings have diverged over time -- so when I say "pork balls" you know what I mean. Unfortunately, not all of our words have this convenient etymology.

Reading "Debunking Howard Zinn: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America". The title says it. Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" used in many middle schools, probably bears responsibility for Antifa and a lot of Anti-American sentiment in the MFM and journalists.
