The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

"As the various anti-Trump narratives ran into the ground by the media (Trump is in bed with Putin, Trump is insane, Trump is a failure at business, Trump is a tax cheat, Trump is pedo-pals with Jeffrey Epstein) collapse one by one like James Comey's credibility, get ready for the 'people are tired of the drama' meme, which is already starting to appear, even among some conservatives. I think it's an especially pernicious meme, because it can't really by refuted by facts or logic. It's not an argument, it's a tantrum. It's sort of like wanting to stop the war because the the sound of gunfire is just too dang loud. So what's the alternative? The only way to quieten things down, really, is to surrender: give Trump the boot, abolish the Electoral College, declare the GOP a terrorist organization, outlaw Christianity, immediately implement all of the Green New Deal, and pack SCOTUS with youthful RBG clones.

"The problem is, we can point out the error of feeling this way, tell them how stupid it is for feeling this way, explain to them how dangerous it is to allow their actions to be governed by feeling this way, but it won't stop them from feeling this way. Another reason why this meme is so pernicious is because it isn't a direct attack on Trump. All previous narratives can be dismissed as such (with good evidence, mind you), but this one focuses attention elsewhere, not on Trump, but on the unpleasant 'drama' that has accompanied him ever since the election. And it's relatively easy to shift attention away from the fact that it isn't really Trump who is causing all of the 'drama', but a whole series of malicious actors on the other side.

"Yes, it's dumb. Yes, it's ridiculous. But there it is. Collectively, Americans can do some pretty dumb things. Like elect Bill Clinton. And, as I said, if this catches on, the media will be pounding on it 24/7, and I'm not sure how a counter-narrative can be established. I only hope that the number of voters who fall for it will be small."

I am now hesitant defending what I used to refer to as the "genius" of the framers of the Constitution because I no longer have confidence in the checks and balances that James Madison assured us were "auxiliary precautions" to prevent our government from going off the rails at times when the wisdom of the American people is faulty. The faultiness of that wisdom is, in my mind, on vivid display by the man they chose to lead the nation.

Serious flaws in the political system
It is hard for me now, in discussing the voting behavior of Americans, to grasp what kind of desperation prompted so many of my fellow citizens to choose and now enthusiastically support a man who has degraded the office of the presidency. How can American citizens in whom sovereignty resides have acted so irresponsibly? I will grant, however, that the alternative was not a good one. But that also speaks to serious flaws in the system.

More ominously, he is a man with dictatorial tendencies that exceed even of those past presidents most contemptuous of checks and balances. He has elevated the Second Amendment's protection of gun ownership to a level above that of the First Amendment's protection against the abridgment of a free press, and he tampers dangerously with the 14th Amendment's clear message on birthright citizenship.

36 "Collectively, Americans can do some pretty dumb things. Like elect Bill Clinton."

Actually, I disagree with this.

I didn't vote for the guy either time, but looking back at it I think that Americans made the right choice. GHWB was no RWR, and I think that he wanted to distance himself from him as much as possible after he became President - Bush was establishment, Reagan was not. Criminal justice reform, badly needed at the time (even though repudiated by the 2020 Dem field as fast as possible) would never have been accomplished without a bipartisan effort, led by Clinton. There's no way to prove a counterfactual, but I'm not sure that Poppy's response to the first WTC bombing would have been any different from Clinton's. After Gulf War I, the appetite for bombing anywhere without express permission wouldn't have been there for him. I think an aspirin factory would have been his target as well.

Looking back at Obama, I think he was the right choice for America as well. If McCain would have won, the Tea Party would have been strangled in the crib even sooner, and the GOPe would have been even more embedded in the Deep State than it is already. We'd never have had the clarifying fire known as Trump.

Further it is there to protect religious people from government, not the other way around. Right. There was a hit song called "Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb" with a girl singing about Edd Byrnes's valet parking character on 77 Sunset Strip, who was sort of the Fonzie of his day -- famous for whipping out a comb and grooming his hair.

Two sets of people: Trump haters will hang on Biden's every word and excuse every lie, because he is their One True Hope and they have to defend their wubby against Orange Man Bad every second of every day. No matter how indefensible he is.

The other people, normal people on both sides (although fewer and fewer normal, honest leftists every day) see what Biden does, and conclude that the only safe assumption is that every word he says is some level of lie, filtered through senior dementia.

Well, look at the 2018 Midterms.

Someone, in an earlier thread, TJM maybe(?), said that the Democrats were crazy in 2018 and the people still voted for them.

But, that's not exactly what happened.

The Midterms 2018 would more accurately be termed "The Surrender of the Cucks".

There were what? 40 or so Recucklicans who just bailed out of their seats along with Cuckmaster General Paul Ryan.

This was literally the equivalent of willingly becoming a cuck to strengthen your marriage-

Like so:

Recucklican: Okay, I'm gonna let you fuck my wife for the next two years to get our marriage back on track just like it used to be. And then after two years of you banging the doodad outta my wife, you'll step aside. Right?

The Paolo: Yeah, sure. That's right. Now go hide in the closet

Thing is Reps then ran with a bunch no-names and the Dims ran with the best, most recognized they could. They hid teh krayzee very well.

By the time he left office his popularity was way down, and Bush fatigue was the meme of the day. I remember posting on one of these boards that I was so damn sick and tired of the whining and screeching BDS I was almost readu to vote Democrat to get the toddlers to shut up (I didn't).

But as pointed out, it is a very pernicious and dangerous meme. In particular, it validates the heads full of mush and soccer moms' concerns about Trump being mean and their friends' TDS.

They have the political equivalent of "emotional reasoning" in psychology.

To "emotionally reason" is to take your emotions as evidence for the truth...

This kind of reasoning is misleading because your feelings reflect your thoughts and beliefs. If they are distorted - as is quite often the case - your emotions will have no validity.

Examples of emotional reasoning include: "I feel guilty, therefore I must have done something bad"; "I feel overwhelmed and hopeless, therefore my problems must be impossible to solve"...

Emotional reasoning plays a role in almost all depressions. Because things feel so negative to a depressed person, such a person assumes they truly are. It doesn't occur to them to challenge the validity of the perception that creates their feelings.

MSM is the main source of the drama, leading susceptible people to think: "Everything feels too dramatic. Therefore it IS too dramatic. Therefore Orangemanbad."

Some time later, several of those people were shocked (shocked, I say!) at what Stalin was doing to his people and had to admit they were disappointed...

Some people, like these new wave commies, you just can't get through to them, even in the face of reality.

The constant drumbeat of eeyore and pearl clutching becomes very irritating after a bit.

I see it around, unfortunately it's infected this site, my go to place.

I don't intend to demean the current situation in my beloved country, but continual pearl clutching and pessimism can and WILL become self fulfilling prophecies if you allow it.

So instead of constantly emphasizing the negative, maybe a little reflection of our past and the trials we overcame--some of which have toppled lesser political systems and nations.

You need to remember we are governed by a political system unique in the world, and fealty to it's precepts has allowed us to flourish and become the most exceptional country ever known, populated by an extraordinary people.

Just my 2 cents.

Back in the day, Carl Betz starred in a short lived series entitled Judd For the Defense. In one episode, he used the word "Hell" profanely, perhaps, "What the Hell is going on?"

I don't know which was the first TV episode to have a character utter "hell." The Star Trek episode "City on the Edge of Forever" has Kirk murmur, "Let's get the hell out of here." That was in spring of 1967, a year or more before Judd premiered, I think.

And contrary to [popular belief, there was an interracial kiss, Caucasian/Asian, on I Spy probably a year before Shatner and Nichelle Nichols kissed on ST. Culp and France Nuyen, I think.

Making reasonable arguments and exposing this mentality for what it is--as is done above--is in itself an effective argument against what is considered unarguable (at least with regard to evidence).

The question is whether conservative writers of influence are going to have the will and desire to do so. Some may simply decide it is best to bed down with the enemy David French style, and assume the role of self-appointed scolds of conservatives who refuse to cede to the left.

I don't care what your religious beliefs are or anything. If you have a d-ck, you need to shut the f-ck up on this one. Seriously! This is theirs; the right to choose is their unequivocal right. Not only do I believe they have the right to choose, I believe that they shouldn't have to consult anybody, except for a physician, about how they exercise that right.

Gentlemen, that is fair. And ladies, to be fair to us, I also believe that if you decide to have the baby, a man should not have to pay. That's fair. If you can kill this motherf-cker, I can at least abandon him. It's my money, my choice. And if I'm wrong, then perhaps we're wrong. So figure that sh-t out for yourselves.
