Rasmussen: Majority of Likely Voters Don't Trust Political News, Also Say the Media Is Primarily Engaged in Political Operations to Block Trump's/the GOP's Agenda

Welcome to the party, pals!

One of the most wonderful trends in the past five years is hearing not-very-political normies just say things like, "The media, can't trust a thing they say."

They've earned their complete contempt.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 32% of Likely U.S. Voters trust the political news they are getting. Most (54%) do not. Fourteen percent (14%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

51% say that the media is primarily interested in blocking Trump's agenda, while only 36% say the media is primarily interested in straight news reporting.

4% of lunatics, some of whom troll this site, say that the media is trying to help pass Trump's agenda.

I'd buy that. I suspect it's a little high but possibly not by much. Only about 20%-30% of the vote is ever up for grabs. 35% of people will vote for the Dem no matter what. Those same people are probably the ones who trust the political news - it's affirming what they're already doing.

64 Whatever happens with Trump, my opinion is he broke the media for good.

They just don't have the power they once did.

They used to be able to take a "head shot" and basically destroy any Republican they decided needed to go. They could collectively freak out, our side would offer the offender their head, and they'd find the next target.

The enemy has been the media more than elected Democrats.

72 I'm very happy the public knows the news is biased.

My concern now is the public doesn't know how much Google and Facebook are manipulating them. Americans in general have been historically fair. After 9/11, books on Islam and Wahhabism were flying off the shelves.
People confronted this new information by learning about it.
Google is deeply ingrained into people's learning process, and they are actively manipulating search results by not indexing any news source to the right of NBC.

I know this is the case because Google searches I've done trying to find old stories about things I've read about here used to return good sources, but now return Vox and Buzzfeed and NBC and other shit-tier sources.
So now when a fair-minded person goes out and tries to learn about politics, they're missing out on any information to the right of Hillary Clinton.

Hot tip to those people: Sometimes you DO blame the messenger.

Normally a product that failed its consumers as badly as the NY Times and MSNBC did would be buried under scandals and class-action lawsuits. All those readers/viewers wound up to see Hillary elected, the entire Trump family indicted, charges of collusion and conspiracy revealed -- and then BUST. Don't they have a #TwoWeeks meme? Jeez.

I think it actually higher than that, at least in terms of "totally on board with the media's position."

But even most of them acknowledge that the media is opposed to the president - they are just down with the cause. That *anyone* could view any news channel for more than about 5 minutes and think "these guys are trying to push Trump's agenda" is actually mad. 4% are actual crazies.

104 My concern now is the public doesn't know how much Google and Facebook are manipulating them.

I really think the "old guard" has already been largely defeated. Nobody gives a shit what the national news anchors think about a story.

It's the "new guard" that needs to be gone after. You can absolutely see HEAVY bias when you try to do a Google search on something. Which is even creepier.

A news personality or writer is basically a paid actor. How you get information on your own is almost like a Stalinist technique for manipulation.

Even typing that makes me feel ever so silly to think anything was really going to be done.

But look at the male/female breakdown... does that agree with your experience? That says women trust the media significantly LESS than men do!

The women I know, be it well or incidentally, all seem inclined to trust the talking heads more than male friends and acquaintances do. When I tell them some tidbit of conservative interpretation of the news, the first thing they want to know is WHO said it, not WHY I think it is true!

Yeah that happened when I was in Jr High and from that time on I always was skeptical of big breaking stories and special stunt stories from the press. An endless succession of scare health stories that contradicted each other turned that skepticism into downright distrust.

But you know what drove the final nail into the coffin of my media trust? Rush Limbaugh's "gravitas" montage about Dick Cheney. Up until then I saw these screwups as a mistake, as something that slipped through or was a genuine accident. That montage proved it was deliberate.

I agree. In extremis the DNC will find a way to kneecap him again, just like last time.

Why? Because he's unelectable, and worse, he's off the Democrat reservation. In fact, he was never on it, so they have zero control over him. He doesn't even call himself a Democrat; he just the cuckoo's egg in the Democrat nest. (SWIDT?)

In this respect, Sanders is to the Democrats much like Trump was (and is) to the GOPe.

I've dunked on Time-Warner (now Speculum - kidding) before, but they got this one right.

A year or two ago they offered free blocking of all robocalls (except legitimate ones from, e.g., schools and doctors' offices) AND all calls with spoofed caller IDs.

That made a YUGE difference in BS calls. Now when they try that the phone rings once, and then they're blocked. Nowadays we don't get many calls at all. I guess the "one-ring wonders" are giving up.

It would be, if the helped Trump in any way. Just look at how they reacted to finding out that Facebook sold data to the Trump team which helped them advertise. When they did that for Obama, it was cutting edge, clever, futuristic, and amazing. When they did it for Trump it was a national emergency that required congressional hearings.

300 That 2016 Google "Town Hall", where the Google Leadership was talking to their Minions, and apologizing for "allowing" Trump to win, and etc.

THAT VIDEO needs to be Trump-eted, broadcast, echoed, transcripted and beat into the public's awareness at Super Bowl Hype Levels.

Can't open the Anti-Trust Gambit, without first preparing the battlespace. And that battlespace is Public Opinion, across society, and not just we few focused types who haunt these hallowed, Hordely halls.

Pick a date, say, Sept. 15th (any, really), but get the entire Right O'Sphere to beat that drum, in unison and at full volume.

Make it an Un-Ignorable Media Event, all day, all night and across the full digital spectrum.

Go for a Three Day Event, if ya think it'd work.

Then, I think, a whole lotta people who were "meh", before the Media Blitz, would find that their view of Google was significantly lower, than before.

And that's when you open the Anti-Trust Suits from Uncle Fed.

I was getting a number of robo calls until I set voice mail to pickup after a couple rings and play as my message the rising three tone "disconnected" sound.

Automatic dialers are designed to remove that number from the list when encountering that sequence.

With a few weeks, all robo calls were gone which leads me to believe that they either share lists or its only a few bad actors.
