Authentic. Now where do I remember seeing that word, in the contest of Gillette's brand management? Oh yes. In an interview with Gillette's woke marketing guru, three months ago. It was just three months ago that Gillette's #Woke #Feminist brand managers were babbling about Social Justice being the brand's "authentic" corporate voice.
Tell us more about the thinking behind the Gillette ad. What was really the impetus behind it? I think there are a couple of things. Certainly, we encourage all of our brands to find their authentic voice in how they want to communicate with consumers and stakeholders."Stakeholder" is a political term, not a business term. It does not mean shareholder. It's a political term of art, a euphemism, for special interest pressure groups. OT: I don't know how it works and if it's the Jays or how our version of the FCC controls buying advertising but the Jays advertising only has about eight advertisers and the same ads are shown over and over and over throughout a baseball game. I guess this is kind of a testimonial so I have categorized it as such. I just wanted to let you know that this week I will finally exhaust my existing stockpile of Gillette shaving products. This is a milestone for me because it represents the first time in literally decades that I will not be replenishing those items with new Gillette products.
Until your idiotic "Toxic Masculinity" ad I was perfectly satisfied with Gillette's products and had no motivation to give even a second thought to changing. I was a customer on autopilot who would almost certainly have continued my existing purchasing habits forever, had you permitted me to do so.
Then someone in your fine organization decided that it would be a very clever thing to use advertising money to insult and lecture people like me in your customer base. You literally spent marketing money to gratuitously offend me and drive me to one of your competitors when not spending that money would have kept me with you for life! I'm still trying to figure out exactly where the profit in this strategy lies, but I guess you guys are a lot smarter than I am and you must know your stuff.
In any event, I just wanted to say good luck with the new marketing direction, and goodbye for good. I will never buy another Gillette product, ever.

Wrong message, and the media feeds that narrative. She knows no other. I wanted to hug her and tell her it's ok, but I would probably have been accused of assault by micro-aggression or something.

It may have originated in politics, but businesses have been using that term for at least a decade and a half now.
Whenever I write a software test plan or a specification I include a section called stakeholders that identifies all of the people who are authorized to dictate changes in how things might be implemented or project requirements.

Even more damaging to them is that once you pick a razor most people tend to keep with it. That has been the whole basis behind the shaving industry - they are famous for it. You give away the handles and gouge consumers on the blades. It took this woke ad campaign to make me change, but I'm not going back from something that is working well and is much less expensive no matter what ads they run. It is done, not something I'm thinking about again. I suspect they are going to be cooked for a long time.

Because advertisers here know that Hosers are already exposed to American ads when they watch shows that are just on US stations (and not simulcast with a Canadian station where the Canadian ads are played instead of the American ones by the Canadian cable company), they've occasionally run Aussie ads just to give the product a bit of different exposure.

I tried that. Cut myself to ribbons. It gets a closer shave, but also requires care and thought to use - two things I do not have right after I wake up.
I got some other disposables that work pretty well. Seem sharper, too. Forget if it was Bic or Schick.
Either way, Gillette just lost a crap ton of business, since I buy for a family of five.

Up until the Gillette ad, I bought both Feather and Gillette. Now it's only Feather.
It's too bad, because Gillette may not start as sharp, but it was smoother and more consistent. I think Feather doesn't quite have the same level of quality control. It's not a big deal though, if I get a harsh save from a brand new Feather blade, it usually smooths out by the second or third.

I just think it's WAY overstated to the point of being a rounding error.
If China does nothing, Americans are looking at like $30-$60 billion in tariffs/taxes.
That's like what the US government spends in 48 hours. The tax cuts dwarf that, American companies basically got their taxes cut in half.
What actually will happen is countries will move their supply chain around and less exports from China. And china will probably eventually cut a deal or at least something to stop the bleeding temporarily.

I've found brands I like better, in some cases a lot and the icing on the cake is they're less expensive!
The Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is shitloads better than tide, and sometimes 30% less. Same with their deodorant, I used to use old spice. Barbisol shave cream better and almost free. Palmolive is great. Finish dishwasher detergent. Costco for paper products.
I'm down to 2 razors - it takes me a while to go through them - once they're gone my house is 100% P&G free.
Just gotta check all them labels, I was surprised at how many brands are either P&G or Unilever (also woke assholes).

There are two ways to go woke. I'll call them the "Nike Method" and the "Gillette Method."
The Nike Method is to use a positive image (nevermind the reality - just the image) to build up a part of your customer base. Yes, you will alienate other parts, but if you play your cards right you break even or improve a little bit.

It seems to come and go in waves, for a while everything was green until BP got oil all over their faces when a drill blew a gasket in the gulf. But its always annoying.
I tried to watch an episode of Top Gear on demand recently, but all the ads were "how LGBT are poor and mistreated" segments from MSNBC and CNBC. Literally, every single one was a different discussion and show about LGBT being disadvantaged and how we should care.

And, I didn't realize Gillette was part of PG.That explains a lot.At a former employer, we had some middle management refugees from PG come in, and they tried to remake the factory into the image of PG with their "PG Way". It completely screwed up the culture of the company in a bad way, and instituted division, strife, and meaningless paperwork bullshit like you wouldn't believe.
My experience with that leads me to believe that that organization is a bureaucratic behemoth.

2. The Dow is thirty stocks. Not only doesn't it mean much for the general economy, it doesn't even mean that much for the stock market as a whole.
3. The reason for the drop is Trump is ramping up trade war rhetoric with respect to China. Shareholders are worried they may be unable to continue using cheap labor in China to undercut workers in the US. I find it hard to care that much. Probably. Most mega-corporations are. It's the only way to keep an organization that big from descending into outright chaos. See also: government.
Per my understanding, Gillette (a relatively recent acquisition) is run an as independent business unit. I suspect that may change after the shot themselves in the face. Their executive suite should have been cleared out by P&G shock troops from Cincinnati by now...

I've been--ok I am--that obese girl. It's tough when I couldn't lose weight because carbs + sugar = crack to my body. My weight was a symptom something was wrong in how my body processed nutrition, and when I would ask doctors how to fix it all I would get is 'stick the Standard American Diet and exercise and lose weight.'
Which was a losing cycle for me, and unhelpful. My body not handling the recommended nutrition guidelines well, plus depression, equaled bad times.
I've lost so much weight doing keto, it's been so incredible and liberating to take back my health. I am so angry at the government for convincing all my doctors and society that eating fat was the problem. It was amazing to discover my body loves burning fat for fuel, fat makes it happy. Which goes against everything we are taught, especially now that animal meat and fat = gaia weeping.
People have to take responsibility for their health, yes, but they also need to have the hope that they can change it for the better somehow. When I lost that hope I packed on the weight, because it seemed like nothing I did mattered. There is a healthy middle ground between loving yourself no matter your shape or size, because you are worth it, and celebrating unhealthy behaviors even when your current weight will swiftly kill you. We as a society need to rediscover that middle.

Gordon Chang's books and interviews are enlightening. He talks about how from early in the Bush administration, the USA elites were convinced that all we needed to do was to allow China to join the world in trade and diplomacy, to help it have a small bit of capitalism, and it would see the light and become a major capitalistic country, eventually turning into a free market, free country. Totally ignoring thousands of years of Chinese culture, communist culture, etc. This same philosophy has been drummed into CEOs, business majors, etc for the past 40 years, which is why we have such screaming and push back from the political and business class over standing up to China.

I haven't seen the Aussie firefighter ad but they have a LEO ad for the 'sensitive skin' and meh, I'm still not buying PandG products. I am completely indifferent to the _marketing_ decisions that companies like Nike, Gillette, Dick's, etc make.
I am VERY concerned when employers FORCE their EMPLOYEES to submit to this woke horsesh!t in order to keep their jobs, and that menace grows every day.
First they started forcing employees into diversity workshop training, to correct their "wrongthink." Then they started harvesting evidence of "wrongthink" from employees' and candidates' online footprint.
Now we have the introduction of the MANDATORY use of "preferred pronouns" in the workplace, so that wrongthinkers are "corrected" every minute of every workday, beaten into submission to this evil false doctrine of utopian egalitarianism, in order TO BE ABLE TO MAKE A LIVING!

The trick is having a standard pattern that cuts across the grain rather than against.
I like disposables because I can *quite literally* shave while mostly asleep and not shred my face.
Is it super-close? Nope, but it will meet military inspection, which is what counts.

The funny thing is that I agree with them on a bunch of points.
The Kochs weren't really about limited government as much as unlimited profit.
For them.
At everyone else's expense.
They wanted unlimited cheap labor and the ability to move their factors to places with zero environmental or labor restrictions because it was their God-given right to maximize profit at everyone else's expense.

When large corporations want to get political, but not say so, "stakeholders" is NOT a term that is used.
Leftism is usually evangelized through HR, normally in the context of preaching the all-important "Diversity", or in celebrating "Black History Month", which is always a "no whites allowed" affair (you'll notice that the most important man in American Black History, Abraham Lincoln, is never, ever, mentioned, and the history they present skips straight from 1859 to about 1870 - you would think that God showed up, waved His hand, and slavery was thereby ended, even though he doesn't have any problem with it in the Bible).
There's all kinds of weird crap they do - some of it downright cultish. But using the word "stakeholder" isn't part of that.
"Stakeholders" just means "everyone effected by this" - everyone who has an interest (literally, a "stake"). Customers, stockholders, employees (some or all, depending), and maybe even suppliers or members or representatives of the community.
It's really kind of an enlightened concept - it suggests actually thinking about how it's going to effect everybody, rather than just do whatever looks good from your own limited perspective.
How much does anybody actually DO that? As they say, "Your mileage may very", and so it may ring very hollow in many cases. But political? I guess if they threw some political interest group onto the pile of "stakeholders", sure, but I haven't really seen it used that way.

You have corporate officers and management who run the corporation and you have shareholders who buy stock in the corporation and thus "own" the company.
In the middle are the employees who perform the tasks assigned them by Management to achieve Corporate goals. Employees do this because they are paid to do work. If they work better, they get paid more. They can also be let go for a variety of reasons.
The thought was to get the employees to buy into the company goals by convincing the employees that they have a stake in the corporation's success, so they became "stakeholders."
In the age of feelz, a good paycheck just isn't enough -- until you're laid off and lose the paycheck. Then heck with the stakeholder stuff -- I just want the job and paycheck.
