Also, read the column she wrote on this subject -- cooking up the White Supremacy drug to replace the Russia Collusion drug -- last week, before Dean Baquet did her the favor of confirming everything she said. Also note that she was one of the only people in conservative (or "conservative") media to call out the sudden fabrication of a new Moral Panic storyline when others in the "conservative" media, such as Rich Lowry and the National Review, were all too happy to agree with their leftist twitter pals and enjoy the Liberal Approval which they crave so much. Sort of like another drug.

It was general stupidity all around, but they really do believe they are the Guardians of Truth and can't understand why people don't bow down before them. I don't think it will end in flames. I think it will dominate successfully and be added to core curricula across the nation for the next two years. I won't be surprised if the 1619 Project is incorporated word for word into some high school and college history courses.
That is, UNLESS one of our #TwoWeeks projects actually comes to fruition. At that point, we're back into provably true/false territory as with the Mueller/collusion story, and it just might be too big to ignore.

I don't think anything really "sells papers" anymore. Journalism is a complete joke now and it is all about using influence to help your side win. There is a reason why lefty media puts something on the web and gets tons of retweets while conservative responses get little play. There is a reason no one watches SNL but when they do something political, it is always trending on youtube.
There is a a reason why corporations are cowed and forced left by the twitter mob. All of this is pre planned by what Obama called, "the professional left". No one really buys a paper now to learn about some important news. It is all about arguing for your side and controlling the narrative. The left has a built in advantage on the net just like they do with media in general, academia, and popular culture.
Yes, they are destroying their credibility, but there is no doubt what they are doing is working. They are dumb, but not stupid. Their incessant attacks are working. In some ways, it is like the work of a real historian. Real historians take pride in getting the facts right. Why can't there be journalists that do the same thing in their jobs?

My support for the NYT is to buy the Sunday Crosswords books once a year. I like the bigger format, so if the subject is too obscure I can get there another way.

We saw Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood this weekend. I will watch anything Quentin makes. He's one of the few reasons I will physically go to a movie theater.
I loved it. Loved it. As always the reviews are mixed. Love him or hate him. The cast was amazing. Even the little girl. Pitt's character makes you forget it's him. DiCaprio did really good too, esp the scene where he "nails it" in the movie. It's hilarious. He nails his "nailed it" acting moment.

Basically even "ships" were just built up dugout canoes with carved tree trunks hand carved into the lines of a hull, vertical, then flaring, then back to vertical, and attached with mortise and tenon joints with an inside frame added to hold up decks later, rather than sawn planks warped to fit a frame. They were literally getting two planks out of a tree trunk.

I saw it. I thought it was his best film (I've never been able to take his films seriously, as he doesn't seem to). But I can't decide how good it was. I thought the Spahn ranch scene was superb. But does it all come together? Or is it just a pastiche of scenes, some funny, some not so much. I'm honestly undecided. I'll see it again.

I heard other people saying this, the patchwork quilt theory, but I did not see it that way at all. It all came together - and the character studies in a particular period in Hollywood were great.
The title, "Once Upon a Time..." gives you the hint that what you are about to see if fiction. Hence the storyline went. You could call it a fairy tale or whatnot. For some, it has a very happy ending.

It's been argued (by academics, so for what it's worth) that slavery in the US would not have made it into the 1870's before being closed-down as cost-ineffective (technology was starting to take over). Certainly not into the 1880's.

Meh, I'm not sure about that. Humans aren't homo economus and think only in economic terms. Slave owners made up a small fraction of the southern population, but they were a wealthy and politically influential fraction, not to mention that there were plenty of others in the Southern economy whose livelihoods were tied to slavery or the cotton industry,
and an end to slavery would likely have meant their changing fortunes. Meanwhile, it was a part of Southern culture and class structure as well, and cultural relics can carry on for quite a while after they stop being useful.

This sort of conversation is why identity politics is so toxic. Accepting the premise that hundreds of years of cultural, political, and social advancement can't be boiled down into skin color. I have no problem crediting any group that added to the collective betterment of man. And I sure as hell didn't invent identity politics. It has been forced on me when I am told every single day that white men are the devil and the root of all problems in the world.

As for the other issues, I want to believe Tarantino had a coherent vision and structure which served it because the idea for the film is so wonderfully original, and my favorite genre is films about films. The premise you're accepting is that "white men" are a meaningful category of people that an individual will either neatly fall into or out of, and therefore the collective guilt or accomplishments of the individuals of that group can be applied to everyone in it.
*That's* the premise that you should be rejecting.

There is something wrong with being embarrassed and ashamed of being associated with the winning team. Very much the case in California, where illegal aliens are the uber-class: they don't pay taxes, they don't obey laws, they get free medical care, free tuition at the University of California, the California Highway Patrol doesn't even ticket them, because they don't pay tickets, and the CHP is no longer allowed to impound their vehicles.

Forensic pathologists don't get to decide who a people are, or who they are not. Each group gets to exclude or include whomever they want and it doesn't have to meet any particular scientific standard.
