It's an Elizabethan short form of "Diego." Both Spanish and Italian diplomatic types were unpopular among English nationalists in that period, mostly because they were always bringing new candidates for King of England. And so (Spanish first) they got a rude nickname.

I know. I'm stirring up trouble on purpose. Most Italian Americans are of southern descent, Sicilian, Calabrese, Napolitano. So when they say Italian they mean "us".
But many northern Italians don't really recognize them as Italian. Like my blue eyed blonde girlfriend from Milano, as Dennis Hopper said, a wop from the north of Italy.
She denied that wop could come from guapo because that's not a word in Italian. But it is a word in a Mediterranean dialect that shares a lot with Spanish.

Grant was the First 3 hour radio talk show to get a modicum of national syndication. Even though his show focused upon New York and the Tri State area, that area made enough national and even international news that people in other parts of the nation would tune in.
In his autobiography, Limbaugh had to overcome objection not only for his politics, but even many people who liked him politically told him that talk radio is ultimately "Local, Local, Local" and he could not sustain a national 3 hour show.

I believe that's the real reason Chris Cuomo hates being called Fredo. And he cooked-up the crap about "Fredo" being a bad thing to call all Italians. Because it sounds better if Fredo says, "You're insulting all Italians, you right-wing nut-job!", instead of "I am not dumb, you take that back, you meanie!"

Meh is a useful word that conveys a good amount of meaning. Ask any American under 70 what it means and you'll probably get a mostly correct answer. It might last, it might not. Who knows? For now, it's a real word.

I actually like eggplant parmesan. The eggplant is sliced, egg dipped,coated in dried breadcumbs and parmesan, fried in olive oil and the slices are layered the dish, alternating with cheese and sauce like a lasagna, but no noodles. The cheese holds it together and the eggplant, prepared the right way, has a meaty taste.
