Fredo's Older Brother, Governor Fredo Due Cuomo: How Dare You Call My Brother Fredo "Fredo" and Slur All Italians With Your Racisty Racist Claim That All Italians are in the Mafia

So the Other Fredo is claiming like OG Fredo claimed, that calling an Italian "Fredo" is a slur on par with the n-word because... because obviously if you call someone "Fredo," you're saying he's the second eldest natural child of the fictitious Corleone crime family.

What a goombah.

From the New York Daily News:

"Italian Americans are not Mafia," [Governor Fredo] Cuomo told WAMC radio. "Don't you dare liken my family to the family you saw in The Godfather or the The Sopranos."

"Don't you dare?"

What, you gonna make us an offer we can't refuse, paesano?

You gonna send us a, como se dic' ?, Sicilian telegram of a fish on ice?

[Older Fredo] Cuomo said bigotry and slurs aimed at Italians [are] as dangerous as xenophobia and anti-Semitism, citing the mass shootings in El Paso and at a Pittsburgh synagogue last year.

Now the word "Fredo" might trigger an anti-Italian mass shooting?

Are you serious, Other Fredo?

"It's all ugliness," he said.

Along with "Fredo," which refers to a thick-headed character in the famed mafia flick, [Other Fredo] Cuomo railed against the use of other anti-Italian insults, like "wop" and "dago."

Calling your stupid runt brother a stupid runt is now the same as actual ethnic slurs?

Go get your ****ing shinebox.

Update: An actor from the Godfather, who played Connie's abusive, treacherous husband, says that Fredo Cuomo is an uomo d'mierde.

"I couldn’t understand, because he's such an intelligent kid, educated and everything else. I heard he's hurt his career," the 75-year-old actor told TMZ, adding that Cuomo’s father, the late ex-Gov. Mario Cuomo, "would smack him" if he heard the rant.

"All these news guys, they're so opinionated," Russo said. "It's not about what you think. And you’'e taking Fredo, a character from a classic? It’s like spitting on the Mona Lisa."

Fredo is intelligent?

You lost me from the beginning there, paesan.

Also -- CNN staffers "embarrassed" by the Fredo rant.

Thanks to Jane D'Oh.

171 Sicilian or Italian?

Because Fredo is claiming we're slurring all Italians.

I know. I'm stirring up trouble on purpose. Most Italian Americans are of southern descent, Sicilian, Calabrese, Napolitano. So when they say Italian they mean "us".

But many northern Italians don't really recognize them as Italian. Like my blue eyed blonde girlfriend from Milano, as Dennis Hopper said, a wop from the north of Italy.

She denied that wop could come from guapo because that's not a word in Italian. But it is a word in a Mediterranean dialect that shares a lot with Spanish.

Let me put it this way, Diana won't eat pasta with a tomato sauce because it offends her sensibilities.

Here, I'll just finish with maximum damage. Garibaldi did not unite Italy, he divided Africa.

Bob Grant was a radio talk show host in NYC 40 years ago.
Posted by: J.J. Sefton at August 19, 2019 05:18 PM (zBaqJ)

Exactly. In some ways Bob Grant was a proto-Limbaugh, or a John The Baptist to Limbaugh as Christ.

Grant was the First 3 hour radio talk show to get a modicum of national syndication. Even though his show focused upon New York and the Tri State area, that area made enough national and even international news that people in other parts of the nation would tune in.

In his autobiography, Limbaugh had to overcome objection not only for his politics, but even many people who liked him politically told him that talk radio is ultimately "Local, Local, Local" and he could not sustain a national 3 hour show.

Also, calling someone "Fredo" is more about their being stupid than about their being from the mafia. I believe the slur for "mafia" is "Guido".

The cuckoo bird lays its eggs in other birds' nests to get someone else raise them. In German a phrase for bastard is "Kuckucksei", cuckoo's egg. You got some other dad to raise you.

I actually like eggplant parmesan. The eggplant is sliced, egg dipped, coated in dried breadcumbs and parmesan, fried in olive oil and the slices are layered the dish, alternating with cheese and sauce like a lasagna, but no noodles. 501 you have to coat them in salt after you cut em up and let the sit for like an hour in a colander to drain. Discard the brownish liquid that collects, very bitter. Then rinse off all the salt. Then cook it.

The problem with this recipe is that it omits gp's final step.

503 444 oh wait it says the "fig sign" has long fallen out of use.

Maybe I'm just thinking about all the fist-type gestures italian gangsters use when they're saying "This is serious. See, I'm making a fist. *That* serious."

I see DeNiro doing this.

It's in Henry V, by the way. Ancient Pistol insults...maybe Bardolph by saying something like "Fig for thee!" and making the gesture.

506 OK. Oall Korrect.

Yeah Oll Korrekt was 20's slang that stuck and finally in like the 60s it was added to the OED. Maybe even later.

They used to wait to see if it was actually going to be part of the English lexicon or just a temporary fad. Used to.

507 Alex Rocco, as noted above, was Italian, but played Moe Greene

He was a mobster in Boston but ran away during the big 60s Irish v Italian gang war. Whitey Bulger was on the other side

So Rocco went to Hollywood where he took acting lessons from Leonard Nimoy, who couldn't get a role after Star Trek

That was back when Hollywood was run by idiots who thought typecasting was a thing.

519 This reminds me of something that occurred on Long Island back in the early 80s. An Italian-American teacher was arrested for spray-painting over signs for the street "Guinea Woods Road",on the grounds that "guinea" (as in "Gulf of Guinea") was a slur used against Italians. Which it was; but it's also the name of a bird that happened to inhabit the woods around that area (or did, back when there were woods rather than subdivisions). The ignorance displayed, and the utter unwillingness to assume even a particle of good faith among those who disagreed with him, is staggering. The difference is that back in the early 80s, this was newsworthy. Nowadays, it's pretty much par for the course.
