Epstein Updates: No Video, No Check-Ins, No Cellmate

FoxNews: No one checked up on Epstein "for hours" before his death, contrary to policy.

For "several hours" leading up to his death, correctional officers hadn't checked in with Epstein -- despite being required to visit him every 30 minutes, a person familiar with the situation told Fox News.
Additionally, Epstein was supposed to have a cellmate. But the person who was assigned to share a cell with Epstein was transferred on Friday before the 66-year-old's death, according to the Post. It was not immediately clear why the cellmate was transferred nor why no one else was assigned to room with Epstein.

No video. Though this isn't due to a "glitch" in the video, as some claimed previously. It's just that the video cameras are not aimed at the interiors of the cells, but at the hallways outside them.

There's no surveillance video of the incident in which Jeffrey Epstein apparently hanged himself in a federal lockup in Lower Manhattan, law enforcement officials told The Post on Sunday.
Although there are cameras in the 9 South wing where the convicted pedophile was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, they are trained on the areas outside the cells and not inside, according to sources familiar with the setup there.

Federal prison officials violated normal procedures by leaving Epstein, 66, alone without a cellmate and not checking on him every 30 minutes the night before he was found, according to a report Sunday.

This could possibly explain the guards' lack of attentiveness:

In addition, both of the guards overseeing the unit were working overtime, with one on his fifth straight day of extra hours and the other forced to remain on duty, the New York Times said.

17 Look this is the single most likely person to end up dead in a cell in current history and everyone on earth knew it. Its not like this was some random dude they were told to keep an eye on. This was the most critical and likely suicide/homicide in the joint.

There's no excuse for this, and no reason to buy that he somehow despite being put on suicide watch and in a cell specially designed to not let people kill themselves (there's a reason they take your belt away in prison, they are ALL designed to prevent suicide) this guy just managed to off himself anyway.

The guards didnt do their job.
The camera malfunctioned.

This is bad, because it's very much the Russian style of doing things, where you are purposely blatant about it, so as to send the message that nobody is safe.

So the easiest thing for anyone to do here is to leave this guy alone, with the means to off himself. And that's what happened.

Makes sense. I've been in a place where suicide seemed to be not just the only reasonable path, but the only possible one. Manipulating a guy like Epstein who thought he was home free only to find himself in a cell would be possible. And if he tried once, that would let the powers that be know that they were getting close.

It could have been just the guards too - maybe figuring that a rich powerful guy like him would skate again so they tacitly encouraged him to kill himself as a form of justice.

But certainly, Epstein should not have been allowed to be in a place where it was possible to kill himself, even if he wanted to.

Epstein might have wanted to commit suicide, he was going away for life. So it isn't necessary to believe someone murdered him, but clearly someone helped him

Whitey bulger had worked closely with the FBI for years. Only some low level schmoe got punished. Shortly after whitey was caught someone got him transferred to a prison where they had someone waiting to murder him

So we *know* that there are people with the ability to arrange bad things to happen to people in our prisons...

163 From 2001 to 2007 there were 1386 suicides (all states).

Those stats include penitentiaries, not jail cells where someone is being held for trial where they are very carefully protected from killing themselves. And further, this guy had already tried to kill himself, so they put those guys in a different situation "suicide watch" which isn't literally watching but just a careful controlled situation.

Its a completely different situation than a pen.

What's amazing to me is, any corrections facility staff involved MUST realize, of course, that by agreeing to do whatever, he/she also earned a death sentence. With the scrutiny of the FBI/OIG now, any evidence that would suggest a set-up must be destroyed in order to support the "gross incompetence" narrative, which is the BEST case scenario for his death.

One would hope that every single corrections facility employee is under 24/7 surveillance for the foreseeable future.

Well yes and no. No he wasn't responsible for Epsteins death. the prison was. They were directly responsible for his death. They could and should be sued into oblivian IMHO.

As far as Barr goes. He is but a cog of an obviously lost justice system that is three tiered.

1. Average Joe who goes to prison.
2. Super rich and or democrat/socialist politicians who don't go to prison.
3. The dead people who almost alter number 2.
