Michael Yon: A Google Insider, Who I'm Calling a "Google Snowden," Is Set to Reveal The Extent of China's Penetration of Google, and Google's Algorithmic Interventions to Convince America That Patriotism Towards The United States is Racist and Evil

Well that got my attention.

Achtung! Pay attention: tonight I talked for about an hour with a "Google Snowden" who will soon go public. A deep insider.

Fascinating stuff. I cannot say much now other than pay attention to what is coming out starting in a week or so from now.

Source said many interesting things about how Chinese are flooding into tech companies like Google, and some of the incredible techniques they can use to brainwash or at least mislead millions of people.

Take this as an example that I am making up based on our conversation. Again, I am making this up but it is based on our conversation:

A politician tweets saying we must protect our national interests.

Google, or whoever, immediately promotes all stories that translates, "must protect our national interests," to "nationalism," and then in almost real time rewrites the meaning of "nationalism" to include traits such as xenophobic, racist, and references Nazis as nationalists.

This happens so quickly and so comprehensively that most people never will notice that in the 30 seconds the curtain was closed, Google (or whoever) rewrote part of the dictionary, and history.

To state this more clearly: they can basically rewrite what you say, write, sing, wear, or hand gesture -- name it -- and they can rewrite that faster than we can make popcorn.

They can do this anonymously saying the algorithm is doing it when in reality they write the rules that make the rules.

I stole most of that, so give it a click.

Via Instapundit.

Sorry for this hit-and-run stuff, I'm writing that Pitch Meeting. Won't be ready tonight. Too much, too jumbled. It's also too long and so I'll have to take a look at cutting some stuff. I want it to be nice and TIGHT.

What's This Mean?

55 >>>I'm having trouble with the practical application of this here. Are they altering the text? If you search for someone's comment, is the implication that a misrepresentation of that comment is shown instead? Or that internally, the quote falls into the same bucket as Nazi quotes and offers those as follow-ups?

I don't know, to be honest. They might mean when you type in "national interest" into the search bar, it rewrites it as "xenophobia" and gives you search returns for that. And racism.

Thus anchoring in your mind that "national interest" and "racism" are synonyms.

Yes, I am stupid with math. I confess. So help me.

As of June 30, 2019 (i.e. exactly 5.5 years later), the account now has $5,656 in it.

Question: What has been the average annual interest earned on that account over the last 5.5 years?

HALP!

I know I know, I'll fail out of 8th grade math if I can't figure it out. But I almost DID fail out of 8th grade math, which explains a lot.

That's pretty damned interesting, especially when you read between the lines. Trump nominated Ratcliffe for the job, the Never Trump Senators killed Ratcliffe's nomination, they said that Trump should give the job to the #2 in command, who they liked - Sue Gordon.

So in response to them killing Ratcliffe's nomination, Trump just fired Sue Gordon. He's telling the Senate - okay, you don't like my pick? Then we won't have anyone in the job at all, how do you like that?

Posted by: ace at August 08, 2019 07:11 PM (PbpT7)

I suspect it's much more insidious -- like deepfakes but with your own online docs.

For example, oh, you know that email you sent a few years back? Had a couple of choice words about Obama? Maybe that gets changed into something, er, "choicer".

Maybe that's not a big problem for private citizens and private communication, but imagine what that kind of power -- literally "rewriting" the past -- could have on past documents and things that people bring up as "evidence".

I was never particularly scared about going down the deepfake rabbit-hole because I figured we'd still have maybe 10 - 20 years until it got to the point of serious exploitation, and maybe I'd be old enough then not to care as much. But I have a bad feeling that maybe 2020 will be the year deepfakes change everything...

There is no such thing as the computer did it. No, human beings wrote code which the computer ran. The computer has no agency. It has no volition. It cannot be reasoned with sorry sorry got distracted there.

The Holy Algorithm is not handed down from on high and it is very much not infallible.

The manipulation is so obvious it's infuriating. For example, look up nearly anything and the first several sites suggested will be Wikipedia. Ah, yes, that font of objective truth. Wikipedia. How many people do treat Wikipedia as authoritative, in no small part because, hey, it's the first site that comes up and everything you read on the Internet is true. Bon jour!

First you have to understand that "Artificial Intelligence / AI" does not exist and won't for probably 100 years. It's all pattern recognition that mimics AI somewhat convincingly due to commodity compute/RAM/storage costs being so cheap now. All pattern recognition is programmed by humans. It's trivial to program pattern recognition that outputs search suggestions (the autocomplete drop down, the first 10 pages of search results) to whatever narrative Big Tech wishes to suggest. Especially if one is only searching one word or common phrase. "Nationalism". "American Exceptionalism". "Westward Expansion".
Combine that with the total abandonment of any critical thinking skills being taught in school or American History and suddenly we wake up 20 years later and all white people are evil, especially white men, and that trend has accelerated dramatically with the rise of Google and social media programming the subconscious with their "suggestions".

The CIA invested heavily in learning about this with MKUltra in the 50's/60's they just lacked the technology Big Tech has placed in all of our pockets today. MKUltra wasn't some Clockwork Orange tie you to a chair and bombard you brainwashing, it was studying the simple power of suggestion.

Say a "red flag" law passes. You've got a gmail account or a blog or something that Google has access to. Some paid troll like K1mberlin calls in a red flag on you, says he has evidence. Voila -- any google documents with some specified keywords now have key language changed. Proof positive? You can be disarmed.

Again, even typing this seems farfetched to me. But I say again, a major news media network has already attempted to fake documents to change an election. 177 As I said upthread, Google is an internal enemy that presents a mortal danger to whatever is left of America as founded

Contrast Google's importation of foreign IT people with Thomas Jefferson's signing of legislation establishing West Point in 1802. Although Jefferson had his doubts about the need for a standing army, he agreed with Washington, Knox, and John Adams that America's reliance on foreign engineers and artillery experts was dangerous. USMA produced the bulk of the nation's civil engineers in the 50 years following its founding.

179 Both NBC and CBS Nightly News tonight both lead with the same story about crying children whose parents were arrested by ICE in Mississippi yesterday. Not similar stories about the historic ICE raids in MS yesterday, but near identical imagery of crying children who will be losing their parents.
That framing of the narrative by "competing" organizations is no coincidence.

Hah-vard and the ivies have been pulling that shit for decades - kicking military recruiters off campus and the like, but not shy about taking federal dollars by the buttload. And our courts (and here is the problem) came out saying that just because Hah-vahd hates the US military and kicked them off campus, the US government cannot stop federal dollars from flowing to that despicable, piece of shit, leftist shithole.

Behind most ongoing problems in society you'll find retarded court decisions that go above and beyond the judiciary's purview.

Source said many interesting things about how Chinese are flooding into tech companies like Google, ..

It's been an Open Secret, since the very-late-80's at least, that when a company department (and, if small enough, a company) goes 50%+1 Chinese (implicitly H1B, but not always), it will stay that way until the company ends. Many people, a properly diverse group, will be interviewed, but no one else will ever be hired.

I've seen this, and know many people who have also seen it. I almost got pushed out of a job once; within 3 weeks of starting, I received 6 "new hire announcement" e-mails (as per company culture) of 6 new SW Engineers ... every one of them H1B Chinese ... the new SW Manager was also H1B Chinese. The probability of these 6 people being the best of the interviewed group defies the odds. They were good, but not better than average

The Bright Spot in All This: Within a year the SW Manager was walked out, for insufficient job performance. The subsequent hires were ... diverse.

I think hamstringing China's economy should be the economic objective, not fair trade, of which the Chinese government has no real concept, and no intention of permitting.

China has put us on notice if we choose to see it, with various quasi acts of war. Massive security breaches, IP theft, numerous subversion and disruption ops, purchasing influence. It's very telling that the public figures screeching nonsense about Russia, a country with an economy the size of Italy's, have nothing to say about China, a country with an economy bigger than ours. Both hostile powers, but money = power.

We don't need them. We never did. Imports of cheap Chinese crap benefit a small subset of the population that profit from it, at a massive cost in US jobs and incomes.

We did just fine without them, and will again.

A simple suggestion, repeated over and over and over and over and over will brainwash a person who is not aware that its deliberateley happening.
Google knows everything about you. If you use their browser they know every site you've ever visited. Hell, even if you don't use chrome every web site has Google ad-tracking API's that will install a Google tracker cookie in whatever browser you do use. It's trivial for them to use that to tailor your search results, suggestions, etc. Have an Android phone in your pocket? Google knows everywhere you've ever been with the GPS tracking constantly phoning home. Every call and text ever made. Every contact in your address book cross-referenced with every contact in their phones and everywhere they've ever visited (physically and virtually). Same with Facebook. Install their app and you consent for all that data to be given to them. Don't install their app? Tough shit your phone came with it pre-installed and there's no way to remove it.

Since the early 90's your "Deep State" has been in bed with Google because they understood the potential of their search engine and the other tech on their drawing board. They invested in it. This isn't speculation, its all public record. Google may as well be a front company for CIA/NSA/NRO at this point. You don't get the special treatment that Google has been given over the years otherwise. Immunity from anti-trust, etc.

It's stunning how many of them are skilled... and completely unimaginative.

After awhile, it becomes clear why the frontman of the band is the frontman.

Well, Google did build our next generation web search and information deposit system for all citizens.

Latest version includes direct integration with the nation's street cameras, with facial recognition. So when you break a law or say something wrong and the cameras catch you, the resulting transaction is debited directly to your account!

I wonder where the corresponding credit goes?

Good news is that it will be version 2.0 for America, as version 1.0 (and subsequent bug fixes) was and is being tested in China.

It is already denying many Chinese access to trains or planes because their official "rating" has dropped too much.

Posted by: Brian in New Orleans at August 08, 2019 07:58 PM (rnXGe)

291 Now let's shift over to a more sophisticated high-level investment question:

I have self-evolved philosophy for what to "do" with my money that I later learned is essentially the same principle as the "Kelly Criteria," an ultra-sophisticated mathematical formula for betting in any scenario with multiple unknowns. Basically, it boils down to, the more confident you are on a bet, and the greater its reward, the greater amount you risk. However, if it has a big possible reward and you are NOT confident about it, then you bet a small amount. And if you are confident about it, but it has a SMALL reward, then again you don't bet so much. Etc.

Anyway, when it comes to banking/investing, the big dividing line is: guaranteed/insured accounts vs. risky no-guarantees accounts.

If you want something with the highest level of confidence, you put your dough in an FDIC-insured account. Even if the bank fails, you still don't lose anything. (Unless the government collapses and we enter colander face-mask time, which actually is part of the calculations in the modern world). The downside for this insurance is that you get shit interest. Nearly zero, these days.

If you want something with the highest level of potential reward, you put it in a "High Yield" investment account, which can (if you're lucky or smart) get you HUGE levels of returns. The downside, if the stock market (or whatever) tanks, you not only get shit interest, you can lose some or even all of your principle! So: huge risk.

The "Kelly Criteria" is to spread out your dough into a series of high confidence and high risk accounts, such that you get SOME good interest, while also getting SOME security from disaster.

The question is: What percentages do you assign to each category?

Me, I'm pretty conservative, so I want at last HALF my money in guaranteed insured accounts where I run zero risk of losing them.

Then I out about one fourth of my money into verty rock-solid type account with decent interest, which nonetheless are not technically FDIC insured. But they're with super-reputable companies that have been around for many many decades/centuries.

And then the final one fourth I spread out in an ever-escalting array of "riskier" accounts, which have an ever-escalating array of potential sky-high returns.

And every now and then I review the whole situation, and it some account consistently does badly, I close it down and shift the money to the account that consistently does the best.

How do you guys do it? Any suggestions/recommendations?

Nazi quotes and offers those as follow-ups?"

I can speak to this to some extent.

When you search something, what you get is a very sophisticated set of associations in the results - ads, specific media stories related to what you searched for (as judged by Google), search results, autofill, etc. Some results are hidden.

Want to may, say... pineapple look bad? Easy. Before pineapple is even typed out completely, start throwing out autofill suggestions. "Pinepple facist". "Why is pineapple racist". "Pineapple boned my wife and killed my dog".

Then when you search for it, say, "Did you mean to search for "Pineapple hitler?". Display image search results that happen to have pineapples with famous evil people. Manson, Hitler, whatever. Include pics of PDT eating pineapples.

Suggest news articles from Huffpo, Vox, etc, about how Pineapples are the new in-thing among fascists.

Suppress or omit positive pineapple search results. Hide any and all image search results of trendy Dems with pineapples. Whitewash any old pro-pineapple articles from MSM outlets.

Now go to Youtube, because we also own them, remember, and suspend or demonetize accounts promoting pineapple-positive viewpoints. Hide pro-pinepple comments. Remove upvotes from pro-pineapple videos and remove downvotes from anti-pineapple videos.

Hit up your buddies at Twitter, coordinate with them to shadowban pro-pineapple posts. Remove blue checkmarks from offenders; hide pro-pineapple tweets even when they're made by someone a person is following. Banhammer people. Un-trend pro-pineapple hashtags and artifically trend #pineappleHitler. Allow bluechecks to make death threats as long as they're directed at pro-pineapple victims.

Do the same thing you did with Twitter on FB.

Hit up your buddies at Cloudflare and yank services from pro-pineapple sites, while allowing other customers to post videos of themselves sawing people in half alive and selling children in slave markets - as long as they're also anti-pineapple.

See how easy that was? How powerful this is? And it takes only hours, as soon as marching orders go out. It's especially effective in conjunction with MSM participation; all they have to do is some half-assed report on the new "fascist pineapple outrage", and people will google it up and bam, there you go.

My interpretation - Google can mostly manipulate the conversation by controlling search results. Nobody looks past the first page anyway. Further, all sorts of algorithms in one place or another automatically provide options to read next.... so you're reading the story about the politician discussing "protecting our national interests" and your personal search results are rewritten on the fly to provide a dozen results that only discuss "protecting our national interests" in the context of it being some type of racist dog-whistle. So all of the "what to read next" links are just like that. If, on the other hand, you were reading about leftist politician making the same comment, the search results are all rewritten to other stories about how "protecting our national interests" is vital, inclusive, and patriotic.

I mean, I don't see how it's possible to put EVERY result for a specific phrase or topic on your screen when you request it.

Maybe the solution is search engines that can be customized by users themselves. You want conservative perspectives, choose these settings; you want liberal perspectives, choose these others.

----

The conventional wisdom is that tariffs are bad altogether, and cause overall contraction of economic output. The Smoot-Hawley tariff act from the early days of the Great Depression is usually cited early in the discussion, for its devastating effect in extending the economic slowdown. There is some revisionist thinking on that, but the central fact is that the anti-tariff arguments assume free unrestricted markets, and we absolutely have nothing resembling that with the Chinese, and never will.

One side point in passing - it's interesting that a nation with a bug up its collective ass about the British forcing them to allow opium imports in the 19th century, would be happy to allow manufacture in China of the "super-opium" fentanyl and its massive shipment to the United States. It's a tyrannical government. They could turn off the spigot tomorrow. Shipping us deadly opiods is clearly Chinese government policy.

Fuck them, seriously.

A great search engine learns from user behavior, in aggregate and/or from your own past usage.

But it is a short skip and a hop from "make the search engine better" to "swing elections, demonize people, and facilitate death camps". The methods are the same.

What google is doing here is sitting there like Winston and tossing non-PC stuff down the memory hole, on an unimaginable scale.

310 ACE: High level explanation of #55
---------------------------------------------

While the internal working of Google search are a very, very tightly held secret, I am confident that it uses a combination of a graph database (a database that is used to tie things to each other*) and feeds actual user feedback back into the AI to build associations in order to best guess what you MEAN when you search for something.

A practical example.

Google the word "tool". What do you get? I bet it was a band. I bet ALL of the top hits were a band.

Now. Google "tools". What do you get now? Even remotely similar?

As you can see, the actual WORD(S) you use in a search are really just TOKENS that represent an intent and are mapped to a result. Google image search "squirt" and you're not going to get a green and yellow can... and knowing you guys, that's not what you were looking for anyway.

SO. If Google takes a phrase (phrases are the most abstract tokens and thus require the most "interpretation") like "national interest" and basically points that TOKEN at the TOKEN for "white nationalist" Google then serves you results in a way that not only shows you bullshit but leads YOU TO BELIEVE that this definition is the prevailing one.

Get it?
