The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"Number one, how many foreign intelligence agencies have infiltrated your Manhattan Project for AI?

Number two, does Google's senior management consider itself to have been thoroughly infiltrated by Chinese intelligence?

Number three, is it because they consider themselves to be so thoroughly infiltrated that they have engaged in the seemingly treasonous decision to work with the Chinese military and not with the US military... because they are making the sort of bad, short-term rationalistic [decision] that if the technology doesn't go out the front door, it gets stolen out the backdoor anyway?" Peter Thiel

Quote II

We all know [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] and this crowd are a bunch of communists. They hate Israel, they hate our own country. They’re calling the guards along our border, Border Patrol agents concentration camp guards. They accuse people support Israel doing it for the Benjamins. They’re anti-Semitic. They’re anti-America. Don’t get down, aim higher. We don’t need to know anything about them personally. Talk about their policies.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)

It isn't every day you encounter a buffalo. But just in case you do, here are some tips.

Our driver slammed on the brakes. We braced ourselves for impact. We were on a collision course, all of us certain the massive creature barreling toward us in the dark would slam into the side of our truck at any second. The vehicle couldn’t stop fast enough. We were in trouble. The cab filled with our panicked cries, and I clutched the dashboard, bracing for impact. Our rim-to-rim Grand Canyon backpacking trip was about to end before it began, shattered by a bison on a lonely road along the North Rim.

Then, just as the truck jolted to a stop, the animal swerved, missing us by mere inches.

#HeyLookAtMe, Robert Francis O'Rourke's family owned slaves.

Democrat presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke says he was recently given documents showing that both he and his wife are descended from people who owned slaves.

In a post Sunday night for the website Medium, the former Texas congressman writes that the documents showed that one of his paternal great-great-great grandfathers owned two women in the 1850s.

You're irrelevant, go a way. Go a way now!!

Dick’s May Have To Close Stores Due To Anti-Gun Decisions

I’ve written more about Dick’s Sporting Goods in 2018 than I ever thought I would. When the year started, we thought the company would have gotten the message that taking anti-gun stances wasn’t conducive to profits, but it didn’t.

So Dick’s doubled down after Parkland and purged the rest of the AR-15s from its stores and then instituted a discriminatory policy against legal adults.

The other side has pushed, poked and prodded. Law abiding citizens with an ounce of common sense are sick and f*cking tired of your type, Dick's.

A BOOZY reveller sleeps off a night on the tiles — out cold and dangling from a garden fence by his flies.

Craig Strathie, 26, is thought to have got stuck as he tried to stumble home after necking almost a bottle of vodka.

Golf clap. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Instead, he was met by silence.

"Grabbers." It's an Irish film about squid-monsters from space who arrive on an Irish island well off the mainland. The monsters like to drink blood. But if they drink the blood of a drunk person, they die.

The protagonists' solution is, basically, hold a giant house party in the local pub, everyone's invited.

It's scary, funny and quite charming, really, as there's a love story buried in the mix.

If you are going to demand an end to free speech because a topic might inspire someone to send you a mean or threatening tweet, then you are not tough enough to be in Congress.

Got slightly panicked when the living room lit up while Pooky was going to bed. Isolated thunderstorm was rolling through, and his nephew was out mowing our lawn, and would therefore need a ride back home. Fortunately, he had his mom's cell phone and was able to call his dad, but Pooky and I were not in shape to drive and my Mama Bear instincts were warring with one another.

103 re Andrew: I wonder if that series The Young Pope is relevant here.

Someone in royalty (and the Papacy is para-royalty) is going to be surrounded by pander bears. Everyone wants to use you; because by proximity to you, they become Important too.

The Young Pope is about a misanthrope cynic who, because he distrusts pretty much the whole universe, survives the Curia (at least in the first few episodes).

Andrew seems to be a weaker sort. He believed the flattery. He believed he was elevated above the average man.

Maybe Britain needs a Borgia royal.

104 The protagonists' solution is, basically, hold a giant house party in the local pub, everyone's invited.

It's scary, funny and quite charming, really, as there's a love story buried in the mix.

Where they are free from the annual hunt.

The managed herd of about 150 is now close to 1,000 (or more), living in Grand Canyon Nat'l Park.

They can only be culled with a permit, and when the step over the line to Forest land.

Yeah, but Joni's gone kind of loony in recent years, too. I can't remember the name of it, but she has a psychosomatic affliction where she thinks there are microscopic multicolored fibers growing out of her skin pores. Apparently a number of people suffer from it and they swear that it's real. Like I said, it even has a name, although I don't remember it.

I hate it. No matter what kind of music an artist is performing, being drunk &/or drugged up onstage demonstrates CONTEMPT FOR YOUR AUDIENCE, imo.

354 Hadrian -- I clicked on the link in your Saturday pet thread posting to view the photos of Dutch. Then I wandered all around your site. To be honest with you, Borzois are not my cup of tea. German Shepherds and Shetland Sheepdogs are my favorites. But I was very impressed by yours and Her Majesty's devotion to the breed and the fantastic results of a very carefully planned breeding program.

I had never heard of showing a "brace" of dogs, but Dutch and Ilya were a beautiful and superbly matched brace. The photos of them moving in perfect synchronization were just amazing.

I do have one question for you. My theory is the longer and pointier the dog's nose, the smarter the dog. Does that hold true with your Borzois? Viewing your art collection, I saw that Borzois were originally bred for hunting. In my experience, hunting dogs can be either complete scatter brains or smarter than the dickens. Either way, best of luck at the show this week. I hope Delilah scoops up a major win.

Sometimes spark plug wires will cause a miss if they run parallel to each other. A worn out distributor can cause this too.

I remember naively thinking years ago (an increasing phenomenon) that it will be interesting to see how Google opens up China to free speech and other basic human freedoms. What I hadn't considered, was that instead a Communist style digital Panopticon would be erected here instead. It makes sense in retrospect. At that time they seemed to be run by old school "hackers" in the classical sense, the type of people who believe basic information should be free or nearly so, more Libertarian than anything.

Poor, Poor Pitiful Me"

I'd lay my head on the railroad tracks

But the railroad don't run no more
Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

Well, I met a girl in West Hollywood
I ain't naming names
She really worked me over good
She was just like Jesse James
She really worked me over good
She was a credit to her gender
She put me through some changes, Lord
Sort of like a Waring blender

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

Well, I met a girl at the Rainbow bar
She asked me if I'd beat her
She took me back to the Hyatt House
I don't want to talk about it

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
These young girls won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe is me

(Well, I met a girl from the Vieux Carre`
Down in Yokahama
She picked me up and she throwed me down
I said, "Please don't hurt me, Mama")

"Diamond" brand still purports to offer what's called a strike anywhere match, but they don't work worth a shit. 424 Roland was a warrior
From the Land of the Midnight Sun
With a Thompson gun for hire
Fighting to be done
The deal was made in Denmark
On a dark and stormy day
So he set out for Biafra
To join the bloody fray

Through sixty-six and seven
They fought the Congo war
With their fingers on their triggers
Knee-deep in gore
For days and nights they battled
The Bantu to their knees
They killed to earn their living
And to help out the Congolese

Roland the Thompson gunner
Roland the Thompson gunner

His comrades fought beside him
Van Owen and the rest
But of all the Thompson gunners
Roland was the best
So the CIA decided
They wanted Roland dead
That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen
Blew off Roland's head

Roland the headless Thompson gunner
(Time, time, time for another peaceful war)
Norway's bravest son
(But time stands still for Roland 'til he evens up the score)
They can still see his headless body
Stalking through the night
In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun
In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun

Roland searched the continent
For the man who'd done him in
He found him in Mombasa
In a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun
He didn't say a word
But he blew Van Owen's body
From there to Johannesburg

Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
Roland the headless Thompson gunner
(Talkin' about the man)
Roland the headless Thompson gunner

The eternal Thompson gunner
Still wandering through the night
Now it's ten years later
But he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon
In Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst
Of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it

Half the audience walked out of Linda Ronstadt's set with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday after the singer dedicated an encore of "Desperado" to filmmaker Michael Moore and urged the crowd to see his new film Fahrenheit 9/11.

"People walked out in the middle of the song," says Tyri Squyres, director of public relations for the Aladdin, who estimates there were 4,500 people in attendance. "Someone threw a cocktail at a poster and people were writing on her posters. We asked her to leave at that point. People paid money to see a show, not a political forum"

...

"The Aladdin Resort and Casino does not condone the comments made by Linda Ronstadt at her performance at the hotel Saturday, July 17th," reads a statement released by the hotel. "Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse her political views. Following her performance she was escorted out of the hotel and immediately checked out of her room. And she will not be welcomed back."

446 130 115 Allow me to introduce a term with which I had not previously been acquainted. However, we live and learn.

I was wondering, as I sat on the toilet, why my nose often ran whilst I was, er, doing the toilet a solid.

"Defecation rhinorrea" is a thing, I learned. Nose running because of taking a crap.

There is no cure. I shall soldier on.
Posted by: Halfwise
---------
Does it (your nose) do the same thing during cardio exercise?

If so, the underlying issue is simply a case of fungal poisoning in the gut, usually caused by antibiotic, corticosteroid, or PPI usage.
That fungal overgrowth leaks toxins into your bloodstream 24/7, which your sinuses filter out as clear mucus.
During times of stress or increased blood circulation, the sinuses work faster and your nose runs.

All you have to do to fix it is clean your gut out like you're going for a colonoscopy and then take two 5 gram doses of food-grade activated charcoal one hour apart, with 12 oz water each.

The charcoal picks up all the fungus and toxins and carries the whole mess out of you. This not only clears up the sinuses, it clears up brain fog, depression/anxiety, short-term memory loss, chronic headaches, most digestive problems, carb cravings, fatigue, and you drop the water weight around your waist and hips that nothing could shake.

466 Bin Laden deserved to be hanged and have his head pop off like the other hussein. And then just be left there for the animals to eat or to be the first piece of a landfill.

That still pisses me off. We had to endure years of the expert Muslim theologians in the Bush and Obama administrations explaining that Bin Laden wasn't a real Muslim, and we give him a Muslim funeral anyway.

The Russians have been known to sew up the corpses of Islamic terrorists in pigskin before burial - videotaping it so it can be shown to other Ilamic terrorists.

As another example, I don't know if we still do this, but we used to have out guards at Guantanamo wear gloves when handling Korans, since the inmates considered the guards to be unclean.

As Mark Steyn noted, it's one thing for the jihadis to consider non-Muslims to be unclean - it's quite another thing when the non-Muslims agree with them.

That was another genius move by the Bush Administration - the alternative location considered for imprisoning Islamic terrorists was Wake Island, in the middle of the Pacific, 2300 miles west of Hawaii.

But no, the Bush Administration had to choose a location a few flight hours from NY & DC, to make it real easy for East Coast white-shoe law firms to virtue signal by providing the terrorists with high-powered legal representation.

483 PJ Media had a story the other day, claiming the Seth Rich story was conspiracy theory started by Russians, and conservatives fell for it and were duped.

He had a lot of facts wrong, or absent, imo. And now I see this ... a (not conservative) Fox news analyst (Ellen Ratner) had met with Assange, and says he told her Seth Rich was the source. Her brother had been an Assange attorney, which seems to be how she attained access.

The story is at Gateway Pundit, and this link is part of it. PJ Media seems to be the ones duped ... but apparently take joy in trashing "conspiracy theories" using their own misconceptions as proof.

Not that there is absolute proof Seth was murdered by Hilda's goons, but Deep State and Mueller misrepresented where the Hillary emails came from, painting the Russia/Trump lie to cover for Hillary's selling our uranium to our enemy. PJ Media joined with Mueller in spreading the fable, as far as I can tell.

why do they hate patriots? btw, not mentioned in the story, but Assange's lawyer, Ratner's brother, also died ... doesn't say how ... maybe natural, except anyone involved in Clinton muck that ends up dead ... always reason to wonder.

495 I grew up just outside of Philly on the east side of the Delaware. I never visited Lancaster County, but Pennsylvania Dutch cultural items showed up periodically. One of my favorites was scrapple. (No, like sausage and politics, you don't ask what's in it.) It came in very dense, heavy loaves and you cut slices off and fried them. Every once in a blue moon, Shoofly pie would make a sudden appearance. Great stuff!

I picked up an early appreciation for the art of hex signs. I had a pair of double distilfink earrings before kids. I also have an extensive collection of cross stitch charts for stitching the various hex signs. Himself is half Irish, which makes him more Irish than the Irish. Many years ago, I gave him a large Irish hex rondel which is fastened to the front porch facing the street.

The Amanna Colonies in eastern Iowa is a Mennonite tourist area. There are several small hotels with restaurants that serve family style. There are also some gift shops with some unique items. And they craft a number of herb infused wines. But it's the meat store and delicatessen that will break the bank. All the sandwich meats are made there as is just about everything else.

569 Frosty.

You mentioned Petula Clark.

Legitimately, the very first "crush" I ever had as a wee 2nd grade lad.

Decades later, she still has the allure.

And your list is too short, but we'd bog down the Pixyware if we tried to list them all. It was indeed, an EPIC era, and that is NOT an abuse of the word "epic".

Let's draw from today's pop and "other" world, for voices and talents that could've cut it in the EPIC era, but who fade from view in today's mediocrity.

Christina Aguilera.

Fergie

Jewell

Carrie Underwood (a success, in ANY era)

Kelly Clarkson. (not a favorite of mine, but that's due to song choice and genre, but not due to lack of a beautiful voice and talent)

Adele. Yeah, packaging, etc. But she's this generation's Lulu, out of Britain. (Well, close. Lulu was the better singer, Adele combines with writing. Which for some, weights the scale)

All in all though?

We don't have a generation of talent to compete with the 60's/70's giants.

We could, but we don't.

The fault lies not with the Cosmos, but with the Stars.

While I would tend to agree, sadly, the limited scope and reach of her (most excellent) works, dropped her below the scan of my radar in that sweep.

Which is a pity. She's superb, and would succeed in any era, BUT FOR a too narrow focus on her art, and not enough grabbing of the oh-so-vital charts.

There is an aspect of a performer's reach, that depends on the aspect of their being "Compelling".

That can be a heretofore unheard voice. Or harmonies. Arrangements.

No one singer from the Beach Boys could chart so much as a gig at the Wurlitzer at the Olde Folks Buffet.

Combined, with the writing, production and harmonies.?

COMPELLING would be a most egregious understatement, wouldn't you think?

I have heard them both live, and they are.

Sadly, their immersion in the "pop" scene, limits their ability to really let loose, and let the artistry fly IN THE STUDIO.

Cut 'em loose on stage, where they can show what they're really capable of, and your mind will be blown. I promise this is so.

The sin is that their "producers", package them in such empty, anodyne, over-engineered crappy compositions and tunes.

They really have the talent. They just need to find a way break free of The Machine, and let fly.

Find me some of her hits that aren't seven times over-layered in self-harmony over production, and you've got my attention.

An early girlfriend was a classic "JAP" in Southern California parlance. "Jewish American Princess".

Niece of a hugely famous Hollywood director, who I cannot mention because the last names are the same.

Ms. Carpenter and her band were hired to play this young lady's Bat Mitzvah.

Karen Carpenter really DID had all of the awesome voice she was credited for.

But in one of Bacharach's few screw ups, he let Richard Carpenter steer the effort more than was his due, and hence the endless over-dubbings.

And that to me, renders The Carpenters more UN listenable, than otherwise.

Her Greatest Hits were crossover enough from Soul and R&B to merit inclusion, but the bulk of her work didn't find it's way into the POPULAR lexicon in the '60s and '70s.

Linda's voice was more powerful, and perhaps more pure, but Emmylou's was (is) more emotive. At least that's how I see it. Diff'rent strokes and all that.

728 rtx,

What Trump is doing is classic Politics 101. The GOP is so weak that the Dems have no chops left. They are getting squashed in the game because they have had no real competition since RR.

729 719 jwest, how do you find repo auctions ?
Posted by: sock_rat_eez - they are gaslighting us 24/365 at July 16, 2019 07:31 AM (MtUPF)

I'm in Michigan, so I use a company named "Repocast". The place is close enough (1-1/2 hours) so that I can go there and check the vehicles out before bidding. Now they have two locations, on both sides of the state. They don't let you drive them, but you can start it, move forward and back a little, just to get an idea.

Went to buy a large riding mower and ended up with the Land Rover and a Lincoln Navigator.

730 723 America is for everyone!.
_______________

Not even close.

The American founders specifically stated who they formed the nation for: "ourselves and our Posterity."

Not one damn word about Somalians, Puerto Ricans, "Palestinians," or anybody else.

America belongs to Americans. And nobody else.

It's a close call. There is one argument that Trump should have left well enough alone and let the Pelosi vs Squad battle play out. I guess the argument is that it would help Demo leadership to pretend to tack to the center and be the reasonable folk.

The other argument is Trump forced Pelosi to join in with the squad and show that they are the main stream of the party. I get the point here and it could have been a master stroke.

But the more I think about it, the less I think Pelosi would have ever been able to send the squad to the sidelines. They are the future of the party and Pelosi was not going to marginalize them for long. It would have been better to let their fight play out imo.

Trump had good reason to call these women out. It is appalling how the media and most of the nation placate such anti Americanism. But the thing is, Trump needs the soccer moms and former Obama voters he got in 2016. He should already have the election in the bag based on historical measures. He has delivered on jobs, the economy, judges, and foreign policy. But there is always going to be a group of pretty well off indie squishes that you have to bring onto the team. They went for Obama twice and Trump once. If polls are to be believed, there is a significant group of squishes that wont vote for the guy. I don't know of SNL, The View, or Jenny down the block convinced them, but something is off. Bill Clinton said; "It is the economy stupid". Yeah if you are Slick Willie and can charm the soccer moms it is true.

If you liked refusing to applaud G-d, you're gonna LOVE what they're gonna do this time.

If events keep accelerating at this rate they'll probably creatively execute a white male Christian live, on stage.

734 so help me get straight who are in this hit new d-flop group The Squad, or as one brilliant Moron dubbed them, Al-Squaeda:

vocals: Sandy "No Jobs for You" Socialist
backup vocals: ill-honey "Cersei" Jihadi
drums of war: Rashy "NoJooz" PLO
random extra: That other one

Posted by: vmom happy to have read a good book! at July 16, 2019 07:41 AM (dm05u)

735 >>Last week Pelosi had initiated a fight to marginalize the Squad within the broader Democratic Party. Now, they are likely to get prime time speaking slots at next year's Democratic Convention.

And al-squada is arrogant enough to think this is their opportunity to shine, take control of the Democrat party (their openly stated goal), LOL.

Trump knows that the more we see of them, the more we are repelled.

Really, seeing Ilhan Omar up there semi-coherently trash-talking while and refusing to condemn AQ or Antifa is surreal. She is not smart, her political skills are weak, so it's easy to see when the mask slips; she can't help but laugh at us. Trump, who is undeniably himself vs. this Omar fraud who is pretending to be woke and love America. No contest.
