The persistence of communist thought in America and the Democratic Debates [KT]

stalin2.jpg

Democratic Socialism is the carrot in front of the stick to beat you with if the carrot doesn't work. Skip

Communism persists in America

Mark Levin recently focused on the American Left's love of communism, and how the media props it up. He began with an article from City Journal by Harry Stein, The Red Decade, Redux:

It may be that the best book that will ever be written about today's progressive mind-set was published in 1941. That in The Red Decade author Eugene Lyons was, in fact, describing the Communist-dominated American Left of the Depression-wracked 1930s and 1940s makes his observations even more meaningful, for it is sobering to be confronted with how little has been gained by hard experience. . .

The review of the book and commentary which follows is excellent. Many people through the decades since 1941 who have fallen for Marxism should have known better.

Echoes of Marxism in the Debates

Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel on Woke Fascism. But what they are really describing is closer to the show trials and such of Marxism as practiced in the USSR and China.

How do you know if you're living in a free society? Here's a quick test: Are you allowed to say obviously true things in public? Or are you forced to lie? As George Orwell put it in "1984": "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows." But what if that freedom isn't granted? What if you're required to repeat things that you know aren't true? What if everyone who hears you knows perfectly well that you're lying, but they can't say so out loud? What if everyone is required to nod along in mock sincerity as if it's all completely real? That's what a pep rally in a police state looks like: "Thanks to the dear leader for a bountiful potato harvest!" they chant, even as they starve to death. You get the same feeling as you watch the current race for the Democratic nomination.

They identify specific lies that Democratic candidates have been forced to tell by other Democrats. Things we knew, but said in a way that could resonate with some young person you might know.

Utopia

For utopian rhetoric, it is hard to top Marianne Williamson.

I know nobody wants political content on this account but it's 2:30am and I am awake and putting Marianne Williamson's speech to Twin Peaks music

Andrew Yang has endorsed a meme from The Onion involving a time vortex and himself, naked. But is there some Year Zero mentality lurking in the Onion piece? Somewhere? Hard to say for sure.

AOC was not on the debate stage, of course, but she has released a video which invites viewers to imagine 2020 as a sort of Year Zero in which the Democrats take over and then produce a green utopia.

"We need to be able to close our eyes and imagine it," Ocasio-Cortez says in the seven-minute cartoon. "We can be whatever we have the courage to see."

Trivia which may or may not be reliable

A group of humans is called a disappointment.

I'm only a single person but my father has called me this my whole life.

A group of disappointments is called a Congress.

A group of baboons is also called a congress.

Continuing:

A group of potatoes is called dinner!

A group of potatoes is called heaven

You're just kissing up to @Potato_Opinion.

A group of Baboons is called a "Congress". That explains a lot actually . A whole hell of a lot. If someone tells me a cluster of Hemorrhoids is called a "Senate", I'm going to go live in a cave and never talk to anyone again. Ever again.

This one says it all IMO.

How do leftists...not know?

I mean it is possible to be theoretically stupid about something, say believing, like a child, that a man could fly if he just flapped his arms fast enough. I mean, I get being stupid in theory, where all you are doing is sitting around the faculty lounge taking a bong hit.

What is baffling is being stupid in fact. Venezuela is happening now. You can see it. Its not a mystery. People predicted this would happen and it did. they did all the things you want to do, the way you want to do them, and the end result was poverty and ruin. Go. Fly down there and have a look.

Its like AFTER I jumped off a building, flapping my arms furiously, and after I hit the ground, and after I was taken to the hospital, I still believe I can fly if I just flap a little harder....your theory is wrong. tragically, catastrophically wrong. Not just wrong in theory, provably and demonstrably wrong.

77 It is incorrect to state that Stalin killed 20 million of his own people. The Soviet government kill 20 million of their own people. Actually I think the number is much higher than 20 million. I have read the Soviet government have killed up to 60 million of their own people since 1900. Likewise, Hitler did not kill 8.5 million Jews. The German government killed 8.5 million Jews. In the case of Germany, there was not a lot of physical force used to get the Jews into the box cars. They were told by the German government and the Jewish leader that the camps were for their own good. A good book to read on this is "How To Kill 12.5 Million People: Lie to Them" by Andy Andrews. It is a short book with big print and pictures. Even a progressive could read it.

Witnessed something interesting a week or so ago. Was walking downtown and saw two gay guys holding hands, talking. At the same time a young college age girl was walking in the opposite direction toward me and saw the same two guys. When one of the dudes leaned in and kissed the other the look of disgust on her face was surprising. You know, the lip-curling sneer with half closed eyes disgust.

Interesting, I thought.

149 I recall my sophomore year in college. I took a handball class and there was this kid there from Syria. Big dude so he and I often teamed up to play. He hated commies and Russians. I knew I would like him.
He told me they came and took his fathers farm when he was 12. From that day on, he, his father and his older brother would go out and kill commies. Hated them. And of course the farm was never productive again.

They've take over public schools and day care.

Their meme of women being slaves in the home was conjured to cause
families to voluntarily give their babies over to day care and wedge the
family unit apart.

When they abolish home schooling only a few children will be saved.

Yes. I'd like to pretend that it is none of my business if they keep themselves to themselves. This is not the way it is going down. Already, almost in a blink of an eye, children are being indoctrinated at the toddler age to experiment with the idea that they may want to be the opposite sex, and that having two mommies, two daddies is just the ticket. Having a sex-change operation is completely normal and wroth of jubilation.

And since there aren't enough people on bikes, they bought a bunch of bikes and put them on racks for people to rent, too. Bikes nobody is using. But hey its the thought that counts, right? the AOC type commies are more commie than Putin or Xi ... since AOC types may be "true believers" to some extent. Putin and Xi are totalitarian thugs, that have grown to professional level mafia style coercion ... use of state power to demand submission in their own country, with intent to reach out to (control) the world.

Our American GOPe has sold out to DeepState globalists, they are the traitors on the inside, have been for decades. As much as I love the Reagan speeches and much of what he accomplished, Ronnie did put us on the deficit spending path (voodoo economics) that never ended.

Trump (even back then) opposed that globalist monster that started back in the 80s. The expression used to be "what's good for GM is good for America". That changed in the 80's when official "free market" policy became "only the profit matters", and we were led to believe trade imbalances would only advance China toward "capitalism". That was always a lie ... and National Review (and Koch owned CATO, and many others) chose the side of globalism (WallStreet) over America First and Liberty.

DeepState is CFR and WallSt ... but blue collar unions turned toward Trump, and maybe others in the middle will see the commies for what they are ... but it is good to have the GOPe identify themselves as globalist stooges.

189 I've been reading Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman, the novel that is to the Battle of Stalingrad what War and Peace was to the Battle of Borodino. The book was banned for 200 hundred years by Stalin for, among other things, comparing Communism to Nazism particularly regarding their treatment of the Jews. (I know, I know; Morons will be shocked by the idea that Nazis and Commies are similar.). Plot elements include persecution of people for expressing non-PC thoughts. (Thank God that could never happen in this country!) It is depressingly more relatable today than when it was written in the '50s.

the AOC type commies are more commie than Putin or Xi ... since AOC types may be "true believers" to some extent. Putin and Xi are totalitarian thugs, that have grown to professional level mafia style coercion ... use of state power to demand submission in their own country, with intent to reach out to (control) the world.

Roundabouts work very well indeed in some situations. They added one a year or two ago to the intersection of Hwy. 21 with Hwy. 13 here in Alberta. Used to have a traffic light. Both are 60 mph highways. I drove through 3-4 times a year, and damned near every time, I'd hit a red light, and have to wait a minute for green. Since the roundabout went in, I have passed through there maybe half a dozen times, and I just have to slow down, maybe wait a second or two for another vehicle, and then zip! Right through. Major improvement, in this situation.

But roundabouts are not a panacea, and politicians/planners who see them that way are stupid. If you put two roundabouts in quick succession, you are doing it wrong.

However, when they make the radius of the circle too small for volume of traffic and then add traffic to the lanes that makes no sense for any reason (like adding a heavy truck route from a highway, when they could have simply used an off ramp a little further down and bypassed that traffic from the circle.)

Well it's not as though it's a hard thing to learn. The cardinal rule for roundabouts: traffic already in the circle has the "left" of way. Yield to the traffic on your left, same as merging onto a freeway.

And most of the ones I have seen have signs posted that clearly indicate your proper route through the roundabout, based on your ultimate destination.

There are a few around here at what would otherwise be four-way stops or lights and they work pretty well at keeping traffic moving. What they're really good for is areas where most of the traffic is either straight through or at a 90 degree angle. If they weren't there, the odd traffic (cross traffic or anyone coming from the sides that aren't used as often) would be waiting forever to move, or else the heavy traffic directions would get held up all the time waiting through lights for intersection entries that nobody's coming from.

Then they put one at Michigan Avenue and Washington, with four-way stop signs for the pedestrian crossing ten feet before the yield signs for the traffic circle, because they were put in by people who are Unclear On The Concept.

When I was looking for which city to live in for a couple of weeks, practically every tourist site made pride this or gay friendly one of their selling points.

First of all, only a tiny fraction of the population is part of the alphabet community. It would make more sense (and be more useful) to advertise that you have a variety of places of worship.

#2. I guess there are gay bars. But other than that, I would have thought the needs and interests of gay people on vacation would be similar to those of the rest of us.

#3. Are there actually any tourist destinations where alphabet people's lives are especially in grave danger?

This all pride all the time is really annoying. I wouldn't care so much if all the wokeness weren't inescapable.

They will do communism right, even though they have no clue what "it" is. The perfectly planned and spotless village, where everyone is "Democrat enlightened" is their dream, their "communism".

And since real world Utopian communism does not (cannot) exist, it doesn't matter that they have no real plan. It is all part of the gas-lighting, and the critical theory plan. The candidates are all spewing Utopian fluff ... they don't quite say the government will own everything, but they certainly intend to control everything.

Utopian Communism IS fake, and that is basically what they are selling ... government will provide everything for free, "life could be a dream ... sweetheart" (that's a song). They are romancing us with flowers, cuz they are flower children ...

316 Yeah seems likely the open borders insanity will not be a vote-winner - on the prez level - but picking up 2-3 more states and narrowly winning the popular vote [my current prediction, just pulled this instant from the nether regions] may not do bupkis to change the situation.

Local/state-level rebellion ["sanctuary"] continues to grow and thrive, with zero effective push-back at any level. Large "blue" states will probably dive deeper into insanity with free everything for illegals during this cycle. And of course district courts now effectively run any part of "immigration" policy they choose, getting more and more audacious each time [you won't have heard about it here, or almost anywhere else] - as predicted once the administration effectively transferred authority to the judiciary in the travel ban case.

Better to "win", of course, but results are the point, and those aren't happening [and I'm leaving out the massive influx of illegals to date during Trump's tenure].

When my dad was growing up, his older brother was in a high school band that did a cover of that song. When they decided to play it, they had to come up with a name for the candidate in it, and for some high school kids on Long Island ca. 1960, "Oswald Kennedy" was what they settled on as a suitable generic east coast politician name.

So I'm not saying outright that my uncle had a hand in the Kennedy assassination, but I mean, you do the math.

427 Flawless, it'll just be blocked by a judge.

Most seem to think changing personnel ["conservative" judges] is a fix, to what is a systemic problem [collapse of constitutional structure]. It ain't. Might be an expedient emergency measure, but not a long-term solution.

Of course the collapse goes far beyond lawless courts [and now, under Roberts, internally lawless system wherein inferior courts can ignore the "supremes" on select issues]. Congress. And ultimately the electorate, which has created the entire mess.

But repudiation is a critical first step. Ain't nothing big happening without it. And we ain't getting it.

435 I wonder if Joe Stalin was ever Times man of the year

436 Kate goes by "Dr. Kate", too.

Anyone who makes a point of being called "Dr." is a pretentious twat, and generally someone who teaches some bogus subject.

In fairness, at that time Time magazine's Man of the Year meant "most consequential", not "hip hip hooray!"

440 The the NY Times sure was a Joe Stalin backer in late 30's

441 20 million is low balling it. Especially since Stalin and Hitler started WWII in Europe.

Go to Amazon and look up "Death By Government" by professor R.J. Rummel.
Soviets killed approximately 60 million of there own people, and this excludes war fatalities.

442 "We can be whatever we have the courage to see."

Jeez, that even sounds stupid. Also, it isn't true. Socialists tend to leave out work when thinking about the future.

443 Solzhenitsyn claims that Stalin killed more than 60 million. But really whilst a single death is a tragedy, millions is socialism.
