Lovely painting. Diogenes is pretty buff as well. He lived to the ripe old age of 89. Just goes to show that the simple life is the best life.

I like the juxtaposition of the large round element with the heavy angular lines of the buildings and street. It also creates an optical illusion. While Diogenes is in the dead center of the work, the large open circle pushes him leftward. It's a very interesting effect.

The place was unlivable last night. So they put me up in the model apartment. Good A/C, but the coffeemaker in the kitchen is either broken or some kind of stage prop. There's an nice balancing act between the three doggehs on the right and the large pot. The dogs are even the same color and tones as the pot, and their combined shape almost mirrors its form. The forth dog on the left blends into the street and background. I only see him because Diogenes is facing that way and the line of his sight and leg lead directly to it.

Willowed because of course it was:
What I dream of is just one of the critics having a rational suggestion for fixing the problem instead of just saying "we are all doomed and going to die soon" as that was an answer to anything. Come up with a solution. Being an endless critic without one is simple. Posted by: JackStraw Look, this is simple, but nobody wants to confront it. It's culture and character, and how they influence each other. When we had a culture that made requirements of character, such as respectfulness, self-discipline, and the like, the systems more or less worked. Once that was swept away, you might as well have poured sand into a V8 engine. And that includes religion. Adams was right. The systems and ideals the Constitution reflect are based upon the predicate of a certain culture and moral character. Without those, it won't work. You can't have one without the other. I say it's simple, but that just means the answer is simple to give. It is hardly simple to implement. But the clear fact is that we went from a given culture, to all cultures OK, to the original culture being suppressed. The consequences in government follow logically from that progression. And there you have the parts you need to solve the problem. The trick is, figuring out how to either restore the previous culture, or rebuild a new one with the necessary characteristics. And that...is far from simple. Or easy. But it's also the only way. Posted by: Brother Cavil, giving up on descriptives at June 26, 2019 10:13 AM (AM1GF) 176

The National Security Agency collected records about U.S. calls and text messages that it wasn't authorized to obtain last year, in a second such incident, renewing privacy concerns surrounding the agency's maligned phone-surveillance program, according to government documents and people familiar with the matter.
The previously undisclosed error, which took place last October, occurred several months after the NSA said it had purged hundreds of millions of metadata records it had amassed since 2015 due to a separate overcollection episode. Metadata include the numbers and time stamps of a call or text message but not the contents of the conversation. It's the kind of story that could sound true, but seems off.
That was the feeling I got last week, when a Washington Post article - "Horns are growing on young people's skulls. Phone use is to blame, research suggests" - appeared in my email inbox. The report covers a 2018 study published in Scientific Reports, which used head X-rays of 1,200 chiropractic patients to claim that young adults aged 18 to 30 are growing bone masses on the backs of their skulls, a supposed phenomenon that The Washington Post described as "horns" (which are technically bone spurs called enlarged external occipital protuberances - EEOPs or EOPs). A week before The Washington Post article, BBC Future published a feature story on "How modern life is transforming the human skeleton," which featured the same study from Scientific Reports. The original study and both news stories - which have gone viral, picked up by dozens more outlets in recent days - link these alleged bone deformities to the use of mobile technology, specifically because users are bending "their heads forward to make sense of what's happening on the miniature screens," as the Post wrote. Jamie Dimon rips the student debt crisis as a disgrace
JP Morgan chief Jamie Dimon says we need to "fix the broken parts" of student lending in the United States, according to Yahoo Finance. It exists solely for the benefit of Communists and cocksuckers.
You sure as hell are not far off the mark, and I have dealt up-close and personal with several of their sport mafias. Imagine if you will the worst you can imagine about the NRA, with diverted funds, luxury junkets, odd ad and PR budgets -- and then recall that USOC's committee was booted from the NRA for being just too damn much. Honest to Christ, you name the game, and "Sport" brings out the absolute worst in people. Seems like the ancient times now, but I remember when social conservatives did not like having sports and game-playing around. An excuse for gambling and idling, some called it. A foot in the door for Bismarckian state-worship, others averred. Denounced from pulpits, back when there were pulpits. Some will deny this. They are lying communists. The Russian-communist bloc showed up at the 1948 Olympics as observers, observed very carefully, and then participated in 1952, sweeping all the world before their juggering naut. Thus began Olympics as boomers know them. Sorry, I can't account for the cocksuckers. Others may fill us in. Posted by: Stringer Davis at June 26, 2019 10:56 AM (8ZmvG) 351

Doesn't matter how much "sympathy" you have. Those debts aren't ever going to be paid. The only question is how long we let them remain as a giant booger on the economy before ripping off the bandaid. I have zero sympathy for people who bought too much house because they'd been convinced that "house flipping" was the road to riches. Yet those people are allowed to discharge the debt in bankruptcy. I have a little more sympathy for people who took out big loans to start high-risk businesses (such as restaurants), but not a lot more. Yet those people can also discharge their loans in bankruptcy. Why are you holding an 18 year old student to a higher moral standard than a 45 year old house-flipper or a 35 year old wannabee restauranteur? Tarna was the most true to the Heavy Metal graphic comics. Kind of a crappy story but incredible art. And I think Tarna herself clearly qualifies as Art. like in the swimming scene. Now that's art.

The chicken jokes are oddly apropos. WSJ headlines this morning a federal "probe" (heh) into collusion (heh) of all major poultry producers to fix chicken prices way too high.
I immediately remembered when Perdue was well-represented in a previous administration, and the whole federal gummint was suddenly anti-cowboy, anti-beef, anti-grazing. The Prez being a man who takes hunnert-dolla steaks well done, I suspect the cattle drovers may be getting some payback. Anyway, they're all RINO clucks. give me the skinny on the NRA power struggle
who're the bad guys and who're the good guys? - It's Cynic/Eeyore Day here at the HQ so they're all bad guys. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at June 26, 2019 09:49 AM (+y/Ru) I'll try. The BOD of the NRA is elected by the membership and the Executive VP is appointed by the BOD. The BOD candidates are nominated by a committee of the BOD, so it tends to be quite clubbish in nature. That said, a lot of BOD candidates are from outside the group, notably Carrie Lightfoot, owner of the Well Armed Woman , who had never owned a gun ten years ago . Lapierre has been involved in the NRA for thirty plus years , and has been the EVP for , I think something like 25 years. He's been reappointed by the BOD and he has made sure he had friendlies on the nominating committee so that the BOD( which is ridiculously oversized) would continue that appointment. When the former ED of the NRA stepped down due to age two years ago, Ollie North, who was a BOD member, was asked to take the job, which he did. The power struggle started between North and Lapierre when the NY AG decided to go after the NRA for using funds from the tax exempt NRA Foundation to support the NRA itself, which if proven true, could be a big problem. The accusations from the NY AG is that the amount is $5M. North accused LaPierre of misusing NRA foundation funds, etc. and LaPierre accused North of conflict of interest as he still had a television show being produced by the same advertising company that produces NRA TV, ads, etc. It gets more murky at that point, with both sides accusing each other of profiteering off the organization, North claiming the NRA has lost it's roots as an organization teaching gun safety, etc into a political organization , LaPierra citing the need for political involvement by the NRA to defend the second amendment, etc. I was at the actual membership meeting in April at the convention and a lot of the members are vocal supporters of LaPierre. Richard Childress had to read North's resignation letter and you could tell he was really uncomfortable with how this went down. Now Chris Cox has been suspended by the BOD , accused of siding with North. I have no idea what is going to happen. I will tell you that Mr.Jen and I are endowment life members of the NRA, and I was rather pissed to get a robomailing yesterday telling me my membership was going to expire and did I want to upgrade to a patron membership or some such thing. Such a waste of money to be sending us that junk. Not sure who I am writing to about this, but I will be sending a letter. The BOD is the problem, IMO, with all of the troubles with the NRA. Thanks Jen. I don't see anything grossly inaccurate in your take there.
I'm occasionally annoyed at how many dyed-in-wool lifelong supporters don't go back far enough to remember the Neal Knox days, and the grand compromise that brought in Charlton Heston and those smooth operators. There is very old, very vituperative conflict between "NRA Competitions" as a national governing body, and all the many more-or-less legit lobbying functions on the other side of the house. NRA too often treats the competitors as a nuisance (LaPierre is disdained for his disdain); on their behalf, they'll "whine" that they were formed to get the government to run rifle matches, not to run them themselves. That's a very natural friction, but it comes and goes and does generate heat. The outsiders and camp followers never hear the legitimate in-fighting, and when news of it floats up, it's always "NRA torn apart by conflict, about to dissolve."
