The Saturday Night Joke

Little Larry attended a horse auction with his father. He watched as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse’s legs and rump, and chest.

After a few minutes, Larry asked, ‘Dad, why are you doing that?”

His father replied, “Because when I’m buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape, with firm legs, a strong chest, and a solid rump before I put good money down.”

Larry, looking worried said, ‘Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom.

There are cookbooks everywhere. The internet has a bazillion sites that offer recipes. But do they have the recipe for Bigfoot Stomping Good Carrot chili Cake?

Created by Jean and Boyd Brougher of Salem, Oregon in 1978. The cookbook came with a giant-footprint baking pan.

Some of the recipes are below. They seem pretty generic. The only thing that makes them Bigfoot recipes is that they're supposed to be cooked in the footprint pan.

Amazon has a listing for the Bigfoot Cookbook, but notes that it's currently unavailable. And even if it were available, it no longer includes the pan (which, I'm sure, is probably considered a prize collectible among Bigfoot enthusiasts).

Can marijuana kill you? A Louisiana coroner believes so.

Louisiana coroner has doubled down on his opinion that a woman died from the first-ever marijuana overdose in the U.S.

As WPXI reports, an anonymous 39-year-old woman died in February. The official cause of death: THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the main ingredient in marijuana.

In an autopsy report last month, St. John the Baptist Coroner Dr. Christy Montegut wrote that he didn’t find any other drug in the deceased woman’s system besides THC.

Concerned about your user data? Stay away from porn sites.

The biggest and perhaps best source of data about what people like to watch on the internet and what they would pay for doesn’t come from streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Hulu. It comes from porn.

While consuming porn is typically a private and personal affair, porn sites still track your every move: What content you choose, which moments you pause, which parts you repeat. By mining this data to a deeper degree than other streaming services, many porn sites are able to give internet users exactly what they want—and they want a lot of it.

There are 125 million daily visits to the Pornhub Network of sites, including YouPorn and Redtube, and 100 million of those are to Pornhub alone. (It’s widely acknowledged that Pornhub is the most popular porn site in the world although exact statistics on the industry are few and far between.) To put into perspective how much content that is: In 2017, Pornhub transmitted more than the entire contents of the New York Public Library’s 50 million books combined.

Bread that no longer can be sold might be useful in the clothing industry.

BREAD HAS A LOT OF uses: the platform for a sandwich, the precursor to a meal, a filling staple on its own. But one laboratory at the University of Borås in Sweden is thinking outside the bread box. In response to the volume of bread products wasted by Swedish supermarkets each year, scientists are exploring the possibility of converting old pieces of glutinous waste into yarn.

“Bread waste is among the biggest fraction of food wastes, which has the highest environmental footprint of big supermarkets in Sweden,” says Akram Zamani, senior lecturer in resource recycling at the university. “On the other hand, the global textile production keeps growing as a result of increasing the global collective purchasing power.” Zamani and her team are trying to address both issues—the overproduction of bread and non-sustainable fabrics—by combining them.

Wanting to be on the show Cops he displayed that he is a Genius Award Winner.

EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- A chase suspect is in custody after attempting to flee from authorities while trapped in a mobile home park in El Monte Wednesday night.

The mobile home park is in the area of Brookside and Elliot Avenue. Few residents appeared to be outside their homes as the suspect drove at speeds above 30 mph in the narrow, dark roadways.

The chase reportedly started shortly after 9 p.m. after a report of a stolen SUV.

Spike strips were deployed more than once inside the mobile complex, but they did not appear to impact the SUV for about an hour.

As the suspect continued going in circles, authorities blocked all exits and entrances to the mobile home park.

The suspect kept driving around patrol vehicles that were attempting to trap the car.

After several spike strip deployments, the SUV finally gave in when one of its tires rolled off of it and into the front yard of a mobile home.

For your entertainment there is a video embedded in the link. Brilliant.

46 The Future comes to Portland:

Portland is full of 24-hour convenience stores. The ones in marginal neighborhoods have a bad reputation late at night - junkies and ne're-do-wells tend to congregate outside of them, and there are frequently thefts, robberies, and assaults in the stores.

A convenience store in a very junkie-intensive part of Portland is trying a new approach.

The door to the store is locked. If you want to enter the store, you have to stand on a mat, and look up at a camera. The store runs a facial recognition search on you, and if you are a known troublemaker, the door stays locked. If not, the door opens. An employee at the store claims that the software also checks for people with outstanding felony warrants, but I don't think that the cops have a database like that, and I don't think that they would share it with a private business if they did.

If this becomes more common, the SJW's on the Portland city council will ban it, of course.

Heh. I got a call from my guitar-playing buddy (whom I've spoken of here) about 5:30 that went "Hey, how soon can you get to the club to play? The act that was supposed to be here couldn't make it."

So, I just got in from a fire alarm gig. We pulled the manager's ass out of the fire, so that's prolly worth at least one Attaboy.

I'm beginning to think there may be something to this notion that people are getting nervous. Some rather prominent dirtbags have done interviews lately -- Andrew McCabe, Susan Rice, James Baker. When this many of them are leaving their cozy firesides to talk to Rachel Maddow, I wonder if there's a collective sense of something coming and they're trying to get out in front of it.

Well, that's funny, because I've always heard that THC stays in the body for weeks after use, which makes employment drug tests very problematic since they can't distinguish current intoxication from recreational use on weekends.

Today, she let me know it's a Pagan wedding. No, rice or beard seed throwing, ringing bells to call for fairies, I said that'll scare them away.

The she told me her friend that is getting married Reiki Master will be there. He cross dresses and is around 70 and his wife stayed married to him. I looked up Reiki and said he's awful at it as it's supposed to help with mental health.,

I knew this was her friend's second marriage, I asked my wife if it was his second marriage, she said no, it's his first. He's 12 years younger than her.

I left plenty out, but if they are LARP their wedding, I am too. I will be Thor for the evening.,

The Mrs. says I don't have to go if I can't bite my tongue. I say the guy wearing a dress could stay home if he can't wear a dress for the night.

I might take a hard pass on the event.

There's one Bball team that will never win a championship: the Orlando Tragic. They're just a tax write-off for the DeVos fambily.

They had the opportunity to get the Zen Master, Phil Jackson, down here to build a team around Dwight Howard and didn't do it. That team is like everything else down here, it's only a tourist attraction.

I'm pretty happy with the post office. My stuff usually arrives the day after it was mailed, and in good condition. Yes, the cost has gone up over the years, but it's still pretty cheap.

I had a roommate in college whose girlfriend went to Spain for a year as an exchange student. The packages she sent sometimes looked like they'd been run over by a truck. The USPO would put a bag around them to keep the stuff from getting separated and attached a note that said basically, don't blame us this is how it arrived in the US.

Look to connect with commenter "Ben Had", a regular here. Host of the Tx Mo Meet.

If I'm not mistaken, it'll be 3rd wknd in October.

It *will* be in Corsicana, TX. You'll wanna grab Southwest Airlines, into their Love Field (Dallas) home airport.

Corsicana will be about an hour South of Dallas.

You may not even have to rent a car. I'll wager that there'll be several Morons or 'Ettes who'd be pleased and honored to give you a ride to the event.

And yes, you should attend. The Tx Mo Meet is UNIQUE, in that it's not held at a restaurant or pub.

Rather, until now, it's been held at Ben Had's Horse Ranch, just outside of Corsicana. Improvised (but very adequate) shooting range, followed by (last year) a whole roast hog, all the trimmings and earlier (for lunch) a bucket o' homemade chicken soup.

Who needs a restaurant?

This year, the shooting element will be hosted at a VERY first class range facility.

And the eats will feature (I believe), goat (cabrito), with several other fine cuts to select from, for backup.

ALL of the trimmings, desserts and after the guns are safely cleaned n' cased....then comes the adult libations, lies, tall tales and exaggerations.

Why, you'd think it was an Official Meeting of the ONT, live and in person!

299 So, a vape with oil delivers about 20mg THC Per dose of oil. The ld50 of THC is, at the low end, 660 ish mg per kg.

So, 660/20=33 doses.

Using a weight of 60kg (132 ish lbs) you get 60*33=1980 doses.

This is math. There is a fudge factor, but let's be real. There's simlply no way she overdosed from smoking.

It was in soft plowed dirt, and not too much trouble. We did hit some red clay at about 18" or so.

332 So, a vape with oil delivers about 20mg THC Per dose of oil.

Posted by: Frag at June 15, 2019 11:28 PM (7/jhW)

LD50 doesn't tell you what you need to know. It's just the amount that kills half the people. It's not the amount under which nobody dies.

A good example is caffeine. LD50 for caffeine is 150-200 mg/kg, which works out, depending on your weight to something like 50-100 cups of coffee. But people die from caffeine induced arrhythmias at far lower doses all the time, lower than ten cups equivalent.

The deer population is getting out of hand around here. It's getting ridiculous. They love gardens, especiall any type of beans. Like crack to 'em.

And deer can jump. A 4' fence is nothing. And they'll jump a 6' fair to middlin' as well. The hungrier they are, the higher they'll jump.

The best deer fence is one slanted at a 45 degree angle, which is what I'm putting up. They can't judge depth with that, and won't attempt to try to jump.

379 And let's use your math.

Less than ten cups, say 5.

150 divided by 5 is 30.

Lets use 2000 doses (assuming the other guys numbers are ok).

1/30th of 2000 is ? Still a really big, unbelievable to consume at once number. 67 doses? That's still a LOT. Half of that is STILL a lot. Even half of THAT is still a lot. And that's 1/4th of the lowest amount of an already low 1/30th of the ld50 for caffeine, which doesn't really track anyway, because it has effects on the heart, which are different than those of weed.

(Caveat, I am bad at math)

Let me put it this way. Even lowering the bounds to a ridiculously low level, you have to smoke 15 doses. If I'm on a jury, I think back to college and realize there is no chance.

I mean, I get it, anything can cause death if you have an underlying physical condition, but you are dying from the condition im that case IMO.

It's more the math and science that says all of that, but history helps.

I always struggle to understand why so many people seem so invested in finding some way to ignore what the math, science, and history tells them. I mean, hash and hash oil has existed for centuries. There is no history of overdosing with them, and concentrated oil is less than twice as strong.

I don't personally care whether you believe it is safe or not, as long as you stop using your concern about it as an excuse to abrogate my 4th amendment rights. Because, let's be blunt (haha) the drug war has killed far more people than weed has, no matter its toxicity.

490 Agreed. But the question was oldest and best. Army is older but Marines are better.

And that's how the Military Branch Wars started.

When I was in the Army I only ran into to Marines in technical ratings. They were all quiet, polite, and obviously ready to hand you back your arm for reattachment surgery if you tried anything. Like I said, polite.

I interacted with a much broader swath of people within the Army. Some of them I wouldn't have trusted to find their own arms while they were still attached.

So "better" is going to be all tribalism as far I'm concerned.

Which makes the Army better.

In Oregon, apparently, bookkeeping and compliance issues are not high priorities with people who sell pot. This causes friction with the OLCC and the Oregon Department of Revenue.

for a while, the Department of Revenue would only accept cash payments at the Salem main office, which was a hardship for those pot shops operating in Klamath Falls and Ontario and Medford. It also made the people running security for the Department of Revenue to have hot and cold running willies.

I have no idea how they are handling that now.

My note-taking consisted of cursive (poorly done), block printing (when the lecture was slow) and abbreviations like 'w/', while some abbreviations were made up on the spot (and indecipherable later). I envied those who, at the time, had little cassette recorders. And they are going to get what they want, and they are going to get it good and hard. Once it's legal everywhere, and Gooberment gets a financial stake in growing and selling it, the cheap, convenient illegal weed is going to disappear, because Gooberment hates competition.

643 So, my son & I visited my dad today. He lives a few hours away. He's 90 y.o., and is in in-home hospice care. He's bedridden, somewhat aware of goings-on around him, can utter a few words but it's very difficult to understand him. Sleeps most of the day. He won't be with us much longer.

We brought the new puppy (13 weeks old) to meet him. After she calmed down a bit, I put her on his bed next to him. He reached over with his left hand and pet her, then wrapped his right arm around her. And there they napped together for a good 3/4 hour.

Happy Father's Day, all.

You have never driven a car with column shift standard transmission? That's "three on the tree". Four on the floor was the sporty option. Three on the floor certainly existed. I remember seeing a base Malibu with "three on the floor". It was built for shipment to Iran, and then the Iran hostage crisis queered that deal, so those cars were sold in Canada.

And four on the tree existed, too. I had an Econoline van so equipped.

Have you never driven a car with the manual shift lever on the steering column? It was a "dazzling new feature" in about 1938 or '39, and by 1940 nearly every maker offered it. It meant seating three in the front seat was now practical, and it remained the default configuration for North American (and many Euro) cars until the early '70s. Standard "H" pattern: lift the lever toward you, puts it in the low-reverse gate. Swing it towards the windshield and it goes into Reverse; towards your right thigh, Low. From Low, push it upward with your palm, and with spring assist, it drops into the Second-High gate, and a further push puts it in Second. To shift to High (third), place your palm on the lever and draw it down towards your thigh. Of course, you are working the clutch pedal with your left foot, same as you would with a floor shifter. The only thing different with the column shift is the location of the lever, and the orientation of the shift pattern.

It was hard to shift a column shift really fast, because they used long, sort of spindly linkage rods, and when the mechanism got old, it was possible to get the lever out of sync with the linkage rods. My long-gone Econoline with the four-on-the-tree was notorious for that. And "tree" was just slang for "steering column".

686 policies that make it easier for adolescents to get marijuana have a definite downside.

I'll also note, living in Oregon, that advocates of marijuana legalization note how wonderful it is that evil law enforcement no longer arrests people for smoking dope (not that that has happened for thirty years), while simultaneously denying that legalization might increase the number of people using marijuana, particularly adolescents.

Schizophrenia is a terrible disease, so this is no small thing, and policies that make it easier for adolescents to get marijuana have a definite downside.

That's an obvious hypothesis - but marijuana use generally precedes the onset of schizophrenic symptoms. 792 There have been documented deaths from the oral consumption of THC since the 70's, it is possible to consume more THC than the body can handle before you start to feel the effects, obviously many deaths from the operation of machinery after getting high as well. What there have been none, or very few of, is death due to smoking marijuana, in most people the effects of the drug take over long before a lethal does can be reached.
