On the state senators - note that they were both EX state senators, no longer in office. I found one piece of closely guarded info on Linda Collins-Smith, in Arkansas - she recently went through a bitter and contentious divorce with a man who's a sitting Arkansas State Judge. Seems obvious that he, or someone he may have hired would be the Prime Suspect, but he's still sitting on the bench, hearing cases. So that's why another Judge sealed the case files...
as to the Oklahoma ex-state senator who died, the gun was recovered with the body, and if it turns out to be his gun, it's sure gonna look like suicide. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 07, 2019 10:02 PM (V2Yro) 26

Posted by: Lurking Lurker at June 07, 2019 09:46 PM (FiUMj) Most people I work with are good to great. But there was one Cornell trained engineering PhD who trained with one of the luminaries in our field. I was training her on a kind of analysis, which you can imagine is like algebra to the calculus that is our typical analyses (analogy). She was so bad, not just incompetent but also self unaware. She didn't seem capable of learning from past situations and yet steadfastly refused to ask me questions even though I kept on letting her know I welcomed them. It was unreal. I was so concerned that I had to call up my boss and let him know. Then she infuriated me. I won't go into details but basically she blamed me for allowing her to waste her time doind the wrong thing even though I not only gave her an example document but I even put step by step instructions in an email. That was the last straw and I told my boss I couldn't work with her again. Which must have been a shock to him because I am always relaxed and happy go lucky at work. They soon transferred her to another group. I don't know how she's doing since I don't really do work gossip. Well, I went to the Summer Sale at Collector's Firearms today.
Saw a lot of beautiful guns, some I'd like to own, but spending over $2k for 'em just ain't in the cards. Enjoyed a good conversation with Mike Clark, the owner at Collector's. His expert eye was invaluable in examining the Norwegian Krag I'd bought down in Orlando. Sadly, he's not optimistic that I'll find a proper "original" stock for it, but I'm kind of the "never say die" type, so I'll advertise and cast about far n' wide, till I find one. Either way, I've got a nice Norwegian Krag. Even in the "sporter" Bishop stock, it's a rare bird, indeed. I'll hope to get it to the range in a week or two, and see how it does with some 6.5x55 rounds, factory loaded to about the 2,600 fps zone. IOW, not "high pressure", modern firearm loads. As it is though, this is a 1905 production model, so I trust it's steel and heat-treatment. Still though, with one locking lug plus the "locking" bolt handle, it's not advised to go "upscale" in the pressures. Iron sights, so I'll get 'er on paper at 25 yards, and work my way out to 100. One thing for damn sure. I'll be fun wringing 'er out. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at June 07, 2019 10:09 PM (QzJWU) 45

Making Sense of the New American Right
The first three categories overlap a lot. The fourth is what happens when you confuse liberty and libertine. _______ No, the fourth is actually the Western Tradition as inherited from Hebrews, Greeks, and Romans. It fell apart in the 17th and 18th C; since then the best we've been able to do is live off parts of the wrecked ship. Really. It's not coincidence that it coincides with the Franco-Ahmari war, although it should really be called "pre-liberal". Posted by: Eeyore at June 07, 2019 10:10 PM (VaN/j) 50

Growing up in Newfoundland there was a lot of Irish and British influences in language. My mother would refer to supper as 'tea' as in "He came home after work, had his tea, and went back right after".
One of my favourites was in referring to someone she was mad at, she'd say "I'd swing for him", hanging being the traditional punishment for murder. Posted by: Dirks Strewn at June 07, 2019 10:12 PM (/Fmtj) 54

We always made sure our overnights with our sons' friends were "organized chaos." When dinner is ready, you eat. when you go outside, stay together. There are fat girls and homely girls with good men. Her being fat is not the reason she's being treated that way. It's the lack of self respect and self worth. Plus probably the general coarsening of society. Posted by: chique d'afrique at June 07, 2019 10:22 PM (9hauA) 82

Posted by: Eromero at June 07, 2019 10:11 PM (qBNEP) Don't get me started. I think the .38-55 is a perfectly cromulent deer round, too. Especially when fired from a 7/8th sized Sharps, as made by Chiappa in the "Mini-Sharps". The 10mm excels like no other round though, at extracting dollars from gunnies who've been mis-led to believe that there's something "lacking" in the .45 ACP. Know what the most effective round of all is, though? The accurately fired one. That's the most effective round there is. Right behind the "lucky shot", I'd hasten to add. Went to Churchill Downs today to see it and the museum, and stayed for two races.
We thought it pretty shabby compared to Saratoga. But when in the museum, I read a lot of the exhibits about the jockeys. The jocks were mostly blacks in the first 20 years of racing there, but by the mid 1890s, racism rose and infected the sport, and black jocks began to get squeezed out. The black jockey that rode the winning horse in 1901 (and in 1902!) quickly fell from the field as a result, and moved to Poland where he could make a living, and from there he went to Russia to ride for the Russian royalty. Came the Bolsheviks, and things were getting dangerous, so he and a small party of horse handlers escaped with 1,000 prize racehorses, moving them 900 miles into France, where he settled and raised racing steeds for the next 20 years. But then came the Nazis, so he again had to flee, coming back to America, where he lived in anonymity until after the war. In 1947 he moved back to his horse property near Paris. There's a quote of Jimmy's under the story of his career in the museum, and it sort of goes like this: "You can live your life your own way, but you'll never have a life like mine." My observations: Women wait for each other to all go out together in the evening (I tend to grab my stuff and go as fast as I can). Women decorate their cubicles (Mine is stark).Women celebrate birthdays (I'm indifferent). Women like motivational sayings (Ack). Women like to take breaks together to go smoke or go the grocery store next to the office (Um, I can go to the store by myself). But they never call each other douchebag and laugh about it. Former Republican Arkansas state Senator Linda Collins-Smith, who was found murdered in her home this week in Pocahontas, Arkansas, believed she was closing in on a child-trafficking ring working from within the Arkansas state government. A verified source close to Collins-Smith told CD Media that she was about to go public with incriminating information on sitting judges in Arkansas, who were involved in taking children from poor women via the Department of Human Services (child protective services) in Arkansas and selling them to wealthy individuals. The source also disclosed that Collins-Smith believed the perpetrators were using illegal aliens to facilitate the crimes which included murdering the mothers of the stolen children. https://tinyurl.com/y57on8lh (No clue on the site this is from so...grain of salt) Posted by: Tami at June 07, 2019 10:32 PM (cF8AT) 120

Rummage: A word meaning that one gets up feeling not really hungry but wouldn't mind a little bite, and goes to the fridge. At the fridge one begins aimlessly poking and pushing one's way through the contents (the actual "rummage") looking for that perfect item. After the fourth round of rummaging one accepts that the perfect item is not there and either goes to bed or just nibbles on that little piece of cheese that was found on the first rummage, but was passed over for "something better" until reality got its ugly hooks in. Either way the rummager ends up unsatisfied.
Related to the Rummage Sale where church ladies bring out all of the items they have not been able to sell over the past thirty years of church sales because - in Christ all things are possible - and church ladies do have faith. So you can sort of say that dinner is the biggest meal, and that can be at mid-day or evening. But lunch has creeped in local usage. My grandparents would never use lunch. It was breakfast, dinner, and supper. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at June 07, 2019 10:51 PM (NMAzL) 168

Depends on the culture and what constitutes a meal. In England, they have "tea" around 4 p.m. which consists of tea (obviously) and some form of stupid sandwich -- cucumber or watercress.
Here in America, we call that extra meal by whatever fast-food joint we patronize (e.g., breakfast, lunch, dinner, Taco Bell). Here's what happened tonight:
- I decided I wanted to try Chipotle again. I found they were offering free delivery via DoorDash. - I ordered. DD says, about 30 minutes. No problem. - It's 45 mins later. I'm wondering where my food is. - I realize the DD driver texted me, 30 minutes previous, which I had no idea about. He's asking what my address is. Uh, it's right in the DD order. - I wait another 15 minutes. Nothing. I text the driver to ask if my food is still coming. - 5 minutes later, I got a notification from DoorDash that my order was cancelled, and they're giving me $10 towards my next order. - Meanwhile I and my mom are still hungry. I decided to just order online from my local Chipotle and pick up the food myself. I do so. It says, pick your food up at 7:30. - I get to Chipotle at 7:30. The people there have no idea my order ever existed. Several other people there picking up their food, are having the same issue. - I wait 15 minutes. My order is now ready. I grab it and take it home. - I get home, get the food open and am chowing down. - My DOORDASH CHIPOTLE ORDER arrives. My mom brought it to my room for me. Delivery guy has already dropped it off and left. So now I have double the Chipotle food. Oh and the topper: their food IMHO hasn't improved, it's still rather bland. At least my mom liked her taco. Really, really wish I could send you all some of this extra food via USB port... :-P Posted by: qdpsteve at June 07, 2019 11:06 PM (miE9U) 204

The one thing I could never eat, even with all the spices in the world, was menudo, the real stuff. I remember resolving to eat a bowl once just to say I did it, and did get one big bite in my mouth, and when I was bringing the second spoonful up to my mouth, my hand stopped half way, and I just couldn't make it go any farther. I tried, I wanted to prove to someone I could do it, but my hand just flat out refused to put any more of that stuff in my mouth.

Around here (SW VA) the word "dinner" is reserved for the largest meal of the day --- and it has to be a hot meal.
So on weekdays it's the evening meal but on Sundays it's the big midday spread after church. I do hear "supper" and "dinner" used interchangeably for weekday evening meals. But the Sunday evening meal, which normally would be lighter than the post-church "dinner," is always called "supper." Posted by: Margarita DeVille at June 07, 2019 11:28 PM (Rxduq) 262

If the asylum thing is implemented, it may greatly relieve current catastrophic border situation - which is not actually a "border situation" - these people are now being released into the country, with slim chance they'll be anything but additional members of the enormous, unknown illegal population. However, unaccompanied minors not addressed [I think]. Also no benchmarks [in the public statement, anyway]. One has to assume the WH will be utterly pragmatic with all this - if results do not follow, back to ultimatums and arm-twisting. * some think that cartel revenues from human smuggling now rival those from drugs - plus, the use of "migrants" as human wave distractions, to prevent interception of contraband, gang network personnel/criminals, and "special" illegals [um, yeah, could be as bad as "global terror network operatives"] - so "taking decisive action to dismantle" *these* particular trafficking outfits could get ..... interesting Posted by: rhomboid at June 08, 2019 12:11 AM (QDnY+) 331

https://preview.tinyurl.com/y6j7hwow Probably many detailed understandings on specific issues noted in the statement [one important one would be whether fake asylum petitioners already on our side of border can be returned to Mexico, or whether that only applies starting today]. Hard to say. If Mexico does not deliver, it's still game-on. Trump suspended Chinese tariffs, then applied them when the chicoms went back on their word. He has credibility. And prominence of border/migration actually has increased in polling, even with the virtual "news" blackout on the situation. Posted by: rhomboid at June 08, 2019 01:31 AM (QDnY+) 380

I searched her up, independently. She was beyond our ability to measure. Like a Supernova, we can only look on, in awe. That said. Being with Garfunkel? Name me a Greek Goddess that also wouldn't have cast herself into Pompeii in despair. Art is one HELL of a musician and artist. But he's also the "male" of Sarah McCla...wrist slitting. Here's the pit to avoid: Had she met you or me in her prime, we could have at least, kept her from that circle of despair. She'd have "friend zoned" us, but she'd maybe still have been alive, right? But, with her looks, her talents? She was corralled SO hard by all the "A List" players, that she thought THEY were her world, until her world sadly, was no more. In real life, I'm a Quiet Alpha. I don't bluster, boast or brag. But if I stand up in a room to speak, people LISTEN. Likewise, if I decide that some punk has harassed an innocent, just a bit too much. I don't assert often, but when I do, it's final. That's been a life ring to a few over the years. And with advancing age, I might throw that ring a bit more un-reservedly, here n' there. But I'll still expect 'em to deserve it. I have standards. They might be LOW, but they're still standards. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at June 08, 2019 01:36 AM (QzJWU) 383

The rise of Donald Trump, Brexit, and nation-state populism throughout the world certainly suggest that something has changed in global politics. American conservatism ought to investigate, recognize, and assimilate the empirical reality before it.

I've got at best three years left to live and the last one is going to be drool and bedpans, so I couldn't hand you the amount of Shit I'd like to hand you right now with your High-Handed Bullshit. I appreciate the commenters on this site and they are the Very Fabric of what makes this place Great. If you feel the "need" to protect them, then you have now adopted a "pet". Congratulations! You're a Fucking Democrat! This isn't my Living Room and I certainly understand grabbing unruly assholes by the collar and escorting them to the door. Been there. Done that. Got the T-Shirt. Your Moral Imperialism might have gone to your head, however. I suggest you take a step back and understand not only the context, but the Resolve of gay people before you throw flags and Preach Impending Doom upon the masses. Now that I've been Nice about it, I also suggest you Go Fuck Yourself. I'll be cordial and not suggest the method. I'm DONE "dealing with" The Gay Community. Yes, there are Individuals, but their overall sentiment is, "Get Them Before They Get You", and I've had my fill. The people here are responsible, eloquent, learned individuals that can see past the next Dick. I have never "bashed" gays, but "Being Sick of Their Shit" is an entirely different Animal. "Our Gays" speak-out against such bullshit and they Know What Hugo the Chavez said is True. This is the First Time I'll call it an "Abomination Against God", and it took you to get me to do it. Dinner is the heaviest meal of the day, regardless of when you eat it.
Historically, city folks ate their largest meal after coming home from work, so dinner is the evening meal for them. Farm folks knocked off work in the hottest part of the day and ate their heavy meal then (maybe with a little siesta afterward), so dinner for them was the midday meal. The lighter meal is called "lunch" if it happens midday and "supper" if it happens in the evening. I looked up the etymology of dinner and supper and lunch
Dinner was the FIRST big meal of the day, from tge Old Fench "disner" in turn from the Gallo/Roman "desjuner" to break one's fast. Originally from mid-morning to noon, the time for dinner shifted later by the fashionable classes (with their all night parties and late wakings) Supper was the LAST big mesl of the day grom Old French "soper" - evening meal Lunch was a light repast between meals, possibly from the English word meaning large slice. It is fairly recentdatung only to around the 17th or 18th century Prior to that there was nuncheon from the Old German noon+ drink and nunchmate from noon+meat Posted by: VMom's phone at June 08, 2019 05:57 AM (dm05u) 463

Growing up on a farm in upstate NY, if you ate "lunch" with a farm family the biggest meal was at noon.....Moving to a small town (600) it all changed, biggest meal was at 5-6 pm...
