Most people I work with are good to great. But there was one Cornell trained engineering PhD who trained with one of the luminaries in our field. I was training her on a kind of analysis, which you can imagine is like algebra to the calculus that is our typical analyses (analogy).
She was so bad, not just incompetent but also self unaware. She didn't seem capable of learning from past situations and yet steadfastly refused to ask me questions even though I kept on letting her know I welcomed them.
It was unreal. I was so concerned that I had to call up my boss and let him know.
Then she infuriated me. I won't go into details but basically she blamed me for allowing her to waste her time doind the wrong thing even though I not only gave her an example document but I even put step by step instructions in an email.
That was the last straw and I told my boss I couldn't work with her again. Which must have been a shock to him because I am always relaxed and happy go lucky at work.
They soon transferred her to another group. I don't know how she's doing since I don't really do work gossip.

Saw a lot of beautiful guns, some I'd like to own, but spending over $2k for 'em just ain't in the cards.
Enjoyed a good conversation with Mike Clark, the owner at Collector's. His expert eye was invaluable in examining the Norwegian Krag I'd bought down in Orlando. Sadly, he's not optimistic that I'll find a proper "original" stock for it, but I'm kind of the "never say die" type, so I'll advertise and cast about far n' wide, till I find one.
Either way, I've got a nice Norwegian Krag. Even in the "sporter" Bishop stock, it's a rare bird, indeed.
I'll hope to get it to the range in a week or two, and see how it does with some 6.5x55 rounds, factory loaded to about the 2,600 fps zone. IOW, not "high pressure", modern firearm loads.
As it is though, this is a 1905 production model, so I trust it's steel and heat-treatment. Still though, with one locking lug plus the "locking" bolt handle, it's not advised to go "upscale" in the pressures.
Iron sights, so I'll get 'er on paper at 25 yards, and work my way out to 100.
One thing for damn sure. I'll be fun wringing 'er out.

We always made sure our overnights with our sons' friends were "organized chaos." When dinner is ready, you eat. when you go outside, stay together.
When you come back inside, keep the volume fairly low when watching movies.
Small wonder we were the cool parents. Might have been mostly because we were a decade younger than most of the other parents.

I did basic training at Fort Sill. PM chow came at 1700, give or take.
Breakfast was after PT.
Lunch was often MREs or T-rats. I really think that we would have been good with just one meal, a really enormous dinner, protein and fat rich. I honestly do not recall being consumed with thoughts of "when will I next have food in my mouth?"
For me, it was sleep. Sweet, pillowy sleep.

Don't get me started. I think the .38-55 is a perfectly cromulent deer round, too. Especially when fired from a 7/8th sized Sharps, as made by Chiappa in the "Mini-Sharps".

We thought it pretty shabby compared to Saratoga.
But when in the museum, I read a lot of the exhibits about the jockeys.
The jocks were mostly blacks in the first 20 years of racing there, but by the mid 1890s, racism rose and infected the sport, and black jocks began to get squeezed out.
The black jockey that rode the winning horse in 1901 (and in 1902!) quickly fell from the field as a result, and moved to Poland where he could make a living, and from there he went to Russia to ride for the Russian royalty.
Came the Bolsheviks, and things were getting dangerous, so he and a small party of horse handlers escaped with 1,000 prize racehorses, moving them 900 miles into France, where he settled and raised racing steeds for the next 20
years.
But then came the Nazis, so he again had to flee, coming back to America, where he lived in anonymity until after the war. In 1947 he moved back to his horse property near Paris.
There's a quote of Jimmy's under the story of his career in the museum, and it sort of goes like this:
"You can live your life your own way, but you'll never have a life like mine."

I work in an office with about 40 other women. False.
In fact, it's the first time in my career I've worked with more women than men. I was nervous about it, having worked in Man Land for 40 years, but they're good people.
My observations: Women wait for each other to all go out together in the evening (I tend to grab my stuff and go as fast as I can). Women decorate their cubicles (Mine is stark).Women celebrate birthdays (I'm indifferent). Women like motivational sayings (Ack). Women like to take breaks together to go smoke or go the grocery store next to the office (Um, I can go to the store by myself).
But they never call each other douchebag and laugh about it.

Several years ago, we did have a crazy female who I believe went on to sue my employer for sexism. She slyly tried to rope me into it without my knowing and when I realized that I told her I wanted nothing to do with it. Luckily she didn't last a month.

In the South, dinner was traditionally the mid-day meal. Supper was the evening meal. Now, usually the mid-day meal was the biggest. So you can sort of say that dinner is the biggest meal, and that can be at mid-day or evening.
But lunch has creeped in local usage.
My grandparents would never use lunch. It was breakfast, dinner, and supper.

It has ALWAYS been breakfast, dinner and supper.
All 3 were sit-down meals, even what could be called a pickup meal or summer lunch--you SAT and ate, it was still dinner. Plus no reading while eating.
We follow those same rules today.

- 5 minutes later, I got a notification from DoorDash that my order was cancelled, and they're giving me $10 towards my next order.
- Meanwhile I and my mom are still hungry. I decided to just order online from my local Chipotle and pick up the food myself. I do so. It says, pick your food up at 7:30.
- I get to Chipotle at 7:30. The people there have no idea my order ever existed. Several other people there picking up their food, are having the same issue.
- I wait 15 minutes. My order is now ready. I grab it and take it home.
- I get home, get the food open and am chowing down.
- My DOORDASH CHIPOTLE ORDER arrives. My mom brought it to my room for me. Delivery guy has already dropped it off and left.
So now I have double the Chipotle food. Oh and the topper: their food IMHO hasn't improved, it's still rather bland. At least my mom liked her taco.
Really, really wish I could send you all some of this extra food via USB port... :-P

I like to use the McDonald's app to order food. You basically set up your order in the app, and when you arrive at the store, it adds your order to the queue (more or less).
Assuming, of course, that the app recognizes that you're at the store. I went the other day, and the app kept telling me "It doesn't appear that you are here yet". I was standing in the store, and it was still telling me I wasn't there yet. Because of that, the store couldn't get to my order, and I had to recorder.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Only dinner involved everyone together* and sitting down to eat. Breakfast was wake-up, work and school schedules, etc. Lunch was at work or school, unless it was the weekend then at a certain age, like eight or nine, it was 'you can find the refrigerator, right?'
But dinner, the evening meal, you had to be there unless an * was in place. And you always helped bus the table and asked mom before the meal if she needed any help, and after.**

**Dad's orders: Always ask your mother if she needs any help before the meal; other than set the table she will likely say no. After the meal, just bus the table, clean things up - mom will love you forever.

I do hear "supper" and "dinner" used interchangeably for weekday evening meals. But the Sunday evening meal, which normally would be lighter than the post-church "dinner," is always called "supper."

Scrambled egg pie even if the eggs are not yet scrambled is always good.----Okay, scrambled eggs with sausages, bacon, hashbrowns, toast, orange juice, coffee, the local paper, at the counter of a diner, in a small town, with guys next to you who have been there for the past fifty years, is a pretty darn good way to start a Saturday.
And as soon as I finish the next refill I'm off to the Ace Hardware for the fitting so I can get my push-mower to start (I swear I will replace this piece of junk next spring).

That's different. Your COUSIN should do the formal complaint to HR ASAP, claiming hostile work environment.
Then start looking for another gig. Sometimes HR decides the threat of a lawsuit from firing a protected class is greater than that of a lawsuit from firing your COUSIN. If nothing happens to your COUSIN, no big deal and they might end up getting a better job.

American conservative politics consistently failed from 2008-2016 (not that its record was great before then).
How about anyone associated with conservative politics in that time period that does not support Trump right now go write a detailed analysis of why they and their preferred politicians failed so completely in that time frame.

It was a good morning in court. In Damore v. Google (originally filed w/lead plaintiff @JamesADamore), Superior Court denied Google's demurrer/motion to strike/judgment on the pleadings and allowed the lawsuit to proceed to discovery. We have a ton of work ahead. Today, thankful!

Historically, city folks ate their largest meal after coming home from work, so dinner is the evening meal for them.
Farm folks knocked off work in the hottest part of the day and ate their heavy meal then (maybe with a little siesta afterward), so dinner for them was the midday meal.
The lighter meal is called "lunch" if it happens midday and "supper" if it happens in the evening.

Dinner was the FIRST big meal of the day, from tge Old Fench "disner" in turn from the Gallo/Roman "desjuner" to break one's fast. Originally from mid-morning to noon, the time for dinner shifted later by the fashionable classes (with their all night parties and late wakings)
Supper was the LAST big mesl of the day grom Old French "soper" - evening meal
Lunch was a light repast between meals, possibly from the English word meaning large slice. It is fairly recentdatung only to around the 17th or 18th century
Prior to that there was nuncheon from the Old German noon+ drink and nunchmate from noon+meat
