1 Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, May 12, 2019, Mother's Day. On this day in 1846 the ill-fated Donner Party of pioneers departed Independence, Missouri for California, on what would become a year-long journey of hardship. If you ever set out to drive up to Reno or Lake Tahoe on Interstate 80 you will go right by Donner Pass where supposedly the cannibalism occurred. I say supposedly because the cannibalism by the trapped party is disputed by a lot of the survivors. But you can imagine the hardship trying to travel through 8 or 10 feet of snow before the roads were even built through there. Interstate 80 to this day is often closed due to high snowfalls through there.

4 Many States are looking to crack down on what they call the massive amounts of internet porn that children are exposed to. The Fox article here shows a picture of Hugh Hefner being surrounded by a bunch of playboy bunnies. I never considered Playboy to be 'porn', but there are a lot of people who do consider it so. But there IS a lot of hardcore porn out there on the internet. I say if you don't want your kids to go to hardcore porn sites then do not give them unsupervised access to the internet. You can also install site blocking software on the computer they use that blocks adult sites. And no it is NOT a 'public health crisis'. A public health crisis is unrestricted importation of tens of thousands of 3rd world illegals with all kinds of diseases. When are we going to do something about that?

Vic. They looked and looked. Not even a dollar to cut. That's how tight the budget is.
In the electric cars, I find that funny. Governor JB The Hutt wants Illinois to be 100 percent renewable in the future. So the vehicle that they were giving tax breaks to, it cost 18 bucks to register as opposed to 85 for a gas guzzling Gaia killing car, will get bumped to 1000 bucks.

He does play to the idiot crowd. His campaign commercials were telling the idiots that he was going to raise taxes on only the billionaires. I guess people didn't realize that even if he confiscated every dollar of the billionaires that it wouldn't make a dent in the problem.

So now, he wants to plonk us with a "fair tax" This time only people making over 250 thousand will see their taxes go up.
Does not explain how that is considered fair. Plus it't the camel's nose under the tent.

We're lucky too. We had about a 120 foot oak near the house that was also near the power lines. We had to call Com Ed to arrange it to be safely trimmed so that our tree guy could take the big thing down for 1500 bucks
Com Ed took about a year before the came around, but right before they did, there came a knock on the door. Some ComEd supervisor was in the area and noticed our dead tree. He was worried that it would take out the power lines. So he was going to arrange to take it down at no cost to us if that was okay.

Free vs 1500? Have at it!

Posted by: Bruce at May 12, 2019 07:04 AM (8ikIW)

78 The utility company back in Texas still butchers trims trees to clear power lines. The result is massive trees with huge V shaped crowns and trees with all limbs on one side removed. Cutting them in that manner makes it pretty likely the tree will eventually break due to asymmetric loading. It's pretty sad, but I guess it's less expensive to do that every 3-4 years than it is to bury the lines.

86 Speaking of power lines. They want to dig a trench from NYC to Quebec to bring in power on a buried power line from Canada. One of Cuomo's ideas when all fossil fuel is gone from NYS replaced with wind mills, solar panels. He will be dead by then, I hope....does he have children? I hope not, or they will be the next governor.

1. Wages A person with a job in the private sector tends to have more pride and control.
2. Profits A capitalist endeavour can generate profits share by owners, employees, and investors.
3. Value As a business grows it can create value whether it is sold lumps sum or via stock.

Liawatha, AOC, Crazy Bernie and their friends are just plain old socialist. Nothing really special.

Then I realized that the two sides are the entirety of the Uniparty government bureaucracy, and its support apparatchiks, facing down a very few honest citizens with integrity.

In some ways they were, but in more important ways the Old Left was much scarier.

The upper-class types were always limp-wristed, but back in the day you also had very hard, ruthless men in the movement. Recall that 1,800 of them went to fight in Spain and a full third of them died there. They were armed with crappy weapons, lived on canned beans and cold coffee and didn't complain because they truly were down with the struggle.

Now we have people who can't live without their smart phones or their triple lattes with vegan organic creamer.

Can anyone see Antifa defending a hill position while being pounded by the Condor Legion?

For that we should be grateful.

189 I think the reason the left hate CAPITALIST so much is that it offers at least 3 ways to be less dependent on the Big Govt teat.

Lots of people, at least a third, would be willing to sacrifice freedom to be taken care of under a totalitarian system. Freedom means being willing to fail and that frightens insecure people.

I'm not so sure about that.

The perception is there, but much of that is an illusion brought about by our declining media. If things were going so great for them, CNN would be on a hiring binge rather than yet another round of layoffs.

In many ways the zenith of Soviet power was in the late 1970s/early 1980s, when we now know they were on the brink of total collapse.

The left is already eating its own, with the contradictions in their "victim stack" emerging into the open. I'm not complacent about this, merely determined. We can't let ourselves get demoralized. Things are rarely as bad as they appear.

While raising three sons (one most troublesome) and a daughter, she scratched away at her work in a sewing closet at night, writing longhand on yellow legal pads. Great, morally indefatigable woman and mother.

Relaxing with the morning paper is a habit I miss, but it became a maddening run across a mine field of talking points and assumptions (peak oil, global warming, etc.). Even once great papers have been engulfed and devoured by default leftist positions taken as moderation. They are dumbed down too.

I'm a tactile person and I also miss the rustle of the newsprint. I didn't even mind the ink so much.

Concerns human trafficking.
