The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"Look, Ilhan Omar has made statements, anti-Semitic comments, statements against our most cherished ally Israel that ought to be rejected by every American. And frankly, the fact that very recently she has been trying to blame the United States of America for the deprivation and the poverty brought on by the dictatorship in Venezuela tells me — look, the people of Minnesota will decide whether or not she remains in Congress, but Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has no place on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Democratic leadership ought to remove her." Vice President Mike Pence

Quote II

“An artist has power to inspire. Make sure you use your power for good and to bring people together. I never understood artists who boycott an entire country, you’re singing for people not for governments.” Sarah Idan, Former Miss Iraq

Quote III

"There will still be oil companies out there. Some will continue to make money. Others will have to go out of business or transition to other models," Jens Peers

Isn't it cheaper to go to the range for target practice? Detroit cops, guns and dogs, not looking like a good mix.

Speaking of Detroit cops, Marion McGilvary may want to apply to the Detroit PD. You see, she really doesn't have use for a dog after a week.

A new puppy wrecked my health, home and happiness: She hoped a dog would fill the hole in her empty nest. But in a confession that will horrify pet lovers, MARION McGILVARY admits she sent the pooch back
  • Marion McGilvary had always wanted a dog and prepared to welcome pet Blue
  • When collected the pup Marion cried and thought the mixed-breed was beautiful
  • However after week she was like a 'zombie' and had no quality time with partner
  • Marion worried about everything and took Blue back to the breeder in Devon

  • Moar K-9 for you...........

In light of the pro-abortion laws recently passed, why are the neighbors shocked? Why?

Hiralbahen Bhavsar, 29, of Little Ferry, New Jersey allegedly slashed her baby’s throat and arm last Thursday night. The baby died at only five-days-old because her mother “didn’t want her,” according to police reports.

Police responded to a complaint from Bhavsar after her husband went berserk and allegedly tried to kill her in response to what she had done to their infant daughter.

OK, I'm not an attorney, nor do I play one on TV. But, I do have one question, WTF is taught in law school?

Harvard University's administration has unilaterally surrendered to a mob of student-activists demanding the termination of law professor Ronald Sullivan as faculty dean of Winthrop House, an undergraduate residence, over his "trauma-inducing" decision to join Harvey Weinstein's legal defense team.

"I am writing to let you know that Ronald Sullivan and Stephanie Robinson will not be continuing as your Faculty Deans when their term ends on June 30, 2019," Harvard College Dean Rakesh Khurana wrote in an email to Winthrop House students on Saturday.

Obviously the basics aren't being taught.

    Venezuela in greenbacks.

The taboo of the ‘almighty’ Dollar is one of the byproducts spawned out of 20 years of Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela; heck, just the mere mention of the word can cause quite the array of emotions down here.

It’s been sixteen years since we last had the ability to freely exchange currencies with the outside world. Back in 2001 my mother traveled to America in order to attend a medical conference in San Diego; I still remember walking to an exchange booth inside the airport with my uncle and exchanging what little cash I had in my wallet for a single Dollar just for the childish novelty of it — to this day I still have that ‘lucky’ dollar in my wallet.

That’s not something you can freely do in Venezuela, not for the longest time. Buying or selling foreign currency has been a shady but necessary practice, always shrouded in secrecy, at the fringes of legality yet hidden in plain sight—everyone knows it, but no one openly talks about it.

Rules are rules, unless you are a Social Justice Warrior.

A legit but somewhat petty complaint has cost an author her book deal and reputation after liberal Twitter ganged up on her for reporting a DC Metro employee eating on a train. It's a violation, but the employee is a black woman.
Jordanian-American journalist and writer Natasha Tynes faced Twitter wrath after she alerted the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to a black woman in a Metro uniform eating on a train presumably on her way to work. Tynes, who has since deleted her tweet, reportedly wrote: "I thought we were not allowed to eat on the train. This is unacceptable. Hope @wmata responds."

"When I asked the employee about this, her response was, 'worry about yourself,'" Tynes said.

It did not take long for WMATA to respond. The transit authority asked Tynes to provide the exact time and location of her encounter and thanked her for helping to "make sure all Metro employees are held accountable."

But that was only the beginning of the story, as Twitter erupted with outraged posts accusing Tynes of being a snitch. The backlash mostly focused on the race and gender of the employee, with many calling out Tynes for contributing to the oppression of women of color.

So when she opens her mouth, what are we to believe?

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) on Sunday attempted to downplay her claim that the world will end in 12 years unless Congress acts on climate change by mocking Republicans and saying, "You’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal."

"This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check it," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "Like the ‘world ending in 12 years' thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal."

All you need is love. Love isn't possible and talking ourselves out of this mess isn't going to work either.

But they are not goals which the progressive Left shares. Indeed, the Left has absolutely no desire to see a “free and open exchange of ideas” because when that happens, they lose. When stacked against virtually any alternative, progressivism has a horrible track record, and deep down inside they know this. This is why they spend so much effort using institutional power to suppressed dissenters from their orthodoxy. It’s why when they do appear to be engaging with ideological competitors, it nearly always takes the form of screaming about “fascism,” “racism,” or some other slur designed to signal to their fellows the presence of an enemy, much like the moaning of a brain-dead zombie in a horror movie.

What do we say here at The ONT? Never, ever stick your dick in crazy. H/T Bitter Clinger

When deputies in Pinellas County performed a pat-down on Jeymie Wescott Tuesday, she let out an expletive.

They didn’t learn why until they got her back to the county jail.

Wescott, 35, could be heard yelling from the restroom, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by the Miami Herald. The deputies went to check on her and said she showed several signs of drug use.

Being front and center was his dream and is Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Tommy Sondgerath loves choir and was so excited for his first duet/solo.

The morning before Harrison High School's Spring concert, Tommy told his parents, "Mom and Dad, I'm going to be famous at school today."

That's because he sang lead vocals for the choir's performance of "A Million Dreams" from The Greatest Showman.

36 Oh yeah. If I were an attorney in NY, I'd take Bhavsar's case pro bono, and argue it to the hilt. What's so different between five days after birth and five minutes? Why is the State punishing her for her exercising right to choose? The unwanted baby just would have been executed by the State for its inevitable crimes anyway. Why not cut out the middleman? Turn their arguments back on them.

If you replace all of your car doors with duct tape you can shave about
200 pounds off your car and increase mileage by about 7 percent. Replace
the entire body with duct tape and you are well on your way to a 100
MPG car. Just use green duct tape.

When some people did something, and killed 587 people in a truck bombing in Mogadishu in 2017 (probably the United States' fault), Ilhan's husband (I assume not the brother, but the other one), was in Mogadishu, interestingly enough. I wonder how much time he spends there.

Recently, a Somali diplomat refused to vote in favor of an anti-Israel resolution at the UN. According to the Times of Israel, Omar's office called the Somali foreign ministry, and demanded that the diplomat be disciplined.

Omar's business and political connections to Somalia would doubtless be very interesting, if anyone could be bothered to investigate it.

When a LEO receives a call to get a cat out of a tree, it's potentially the most deadly situation any officer can respond to.

That and pulling someone over for not wearing their seatbelt.

139 It seems as if most die-hard leftists have never known true hardship or had to overcome real adversity.

There was a proposal to build a bike lane in a gentrifying neighborhood in Portland, which was blocked by the remaining black residents of the neighborhood, since it would have limited car access to a couple of facilities used by local blacks. (The bike lanes come in, and the black people move out.)

As a result, the bike lane was moved **three blocks** to the west from the original plan. The local white hipsters, all doubtless with "black lives matter" signs in front of their house, went absolutely nuts, of course. Several of them indicated that having the bike lane moved was the most traumatic thing that had ever happened to them in their lives.

157 Today here on the MS Coast, we had a big send-off for a Biloxi police officer murdered as he got out of his police car at the station, checking in for work.

Twenty year AF veteran, he also had 24 years on BPD and was due to retire at the end of this year. Cops came from as far away as WA and NY; the procession down Hwy 90 shut down traffic both ways for over an hour. The opposite of flow lanes shut down voluntarily, as people got out of their cars to pay their respects.

The suspect, a 19 year old black male, smirked and smiled as he was led into the police station for processing. It took about a day to catch him as he was on video. Five others have been charged with aiding him after the fact.

He has given no reason for the slaying. Unfortunately, MS doesn't do much on executions, and this thug will probably be Big Man On Campus in the pen for as long as he lives.

221 A year ago in Colorado, if you bought beer, you had to go to a liquor store. Dishwater beer, that 3.2 crap they make, was available in supermarkets and smaller grocery stores, and convenience stores, but real beer was in the mom and pops.

Colorado doesn't allow chain store liquor sales. 99 percent of the stores are mom and pops.

Under fire from the biggies, CO changed the law, 3.2 went out the window overnight, and all those that sold it can now sell real beer.

How do you think that hit the mom and pops?

Saw a sign in the window of a liquor store in Denver today, "full strength beer sold here." The store is a nine iron shot away from a 7-11, a Safeway, and a King Soopers, all selling high beer in greater variety and at lower prices.

Strangely, while CO prohibits chains from selling liquor (all the stores must be single-location), it allows the dope stores to be chained.

232 Once again my kids charter school has proven to me they are just another progressive indoctrination center, just somewhat classier that the regular public schools. My older son has been reading a historical fiction book about segregation in the 60's. assigned by his teacher, A Thousand Never Evers. Not surprising to me as that is about 50% of American history education. Today I finally got around to checking out the book and turns it is a huge hit with the SJW crowd with "valuable lessons for our kids, blah, blah blah..." Worse, it is highly recommended by the Zinn Education Project which is a hard left NGO as you probably guessed.

Sick of this shit. And they wonder why the kids aren't interested in what they are assigned (unlike the books I make them read at home.) American public education is completely corrupted. I may write the teacher and principal on this but I know won't do any good as they are loyal leftist foot soldiers, which is why they were selected by the board. And they want me to participate in teacher appreciation week by sending money for lunch and gifts? Screw that.

266 235 I'm going to be the contrarian on the pet article. It is much better that she acknowledge that, really, she's not cut out for dog ownership, and surrender the pooch to be re-homed somewhere much more appropriate. There are far worse ways that could have been handled, and that probably ended as well as could be expected.

This is a reasonable argument. The biggest issue here is that people should not approach being a pet owner as a lark. It is work. Now, I guess on the plus side, she returned it to a breeder rather than a shelter, so hopefully the pup will go to a good home.

267 Jewells and Hadrian -- I don't know about your states, but in Nebraska, grandparents -- much less great-grandparents -- have absolutely no rights what so ever. I walked on eggs for nearly fifteen years because my oldest grandson's egg donor is miles past crazy. Her parents adopted him and his three half siblings when he was about four. I got along with the other grandparents okay, but I very carefully censored every word I said to that kid, making sure I said nothing critical about the other grandparents. Every time he complained about them enforcing what he thought were unfair rules, I explained to him that what the other grandparents said was final. I may have disagreed with some of their decisions, but I just kept my mouth shut because if they decided I could not see him, there wasn't a damn thing I could do.

268 I think one of the real weaknesses on the right is that we won't use the advantages we do have.

For example, if you are a hiring manager and you have a political liberal and a political conservative (or just someone that strenuously avoids talking about politics) as the candidates, who should you hire?

The latter - presuming he is remotely qualified.

Why? Because the lefty will use all the resources at his disposal to support the people trying to destroy you.

The same is true when you are hiring some local small business, buying a car, etc.

Most of the productive class is made of conservatives. And yet we keep supporting lefties.

269 That story makes me want to string some piano wire across their route.

Some of the local yutes have been known to throw things at the Spandex Mafia as they cycle by.

One reason why some of the people were so upset was that they had a direct personal interest in the bike path. To wit:

    1) Buy a house on a busy street, and get a price discount because the house is on a busy street.

    2) Immediately start lobbying the city to install traffic blockers to move the traffic away from your street.

It wasn't just a bike path, the city was going to install "diverters" to force traffic away from that particular street. The fact that most of the people currently driving on that street were black was unimportant, of course.

So, moving the bike path a few blocks away eliminated the benefit for people who had bought houses on the street, anticipating that they could redirect the traffic elsewhere.

One hipster whined that now his young son wouldn't be able to play in front of his house, because of the traffic. I thought: "Did you notice the traffic when you bought the house?"

    Not even close.

We've been governed by a political system unique in the world for 243 years.

By faithful adherence to that system we have become the dominant nation on the planet.

Along the way, we have met and overcome situations that have collapsed lesser nations and their governments.

We'll prevail through this latest test as we have the others.

    The terminally bored

    pick up disease

    buy some new work boots
stomp on a waffle or two

    take a long overdue vacation
book yourself on a flight to the moon
    volunteer for a brain operation

don't let nobody tell ya that there's nothing to do

well you can jump off a roof
    pretend you can fly
    maybe you'll bounce
    maybe you'll die
    maybe you'll splat
    and flap until that

well you can practice your bongo
    go to the Congo
    get lost on safari
ask 'where the hell are we?'
    speak in Swahili
they tell me that a lot of them do

    talk on the phone
    call up the coast
    call up collect
    dial direct
    reverse the charges
    if they accept
    they're home

    you can go overseas
    speak Japanese
    buy a new Sony
    they make great TVs
    do the Watusi
    watch I Love Lucy too

347 @286 I have noticed that in a lot of blue cities the wealthier suburbs are getting all sorts of "traffic calming" measure put in - lowering speed limits, speed bumps on the streets (no schools/hospitals in the area), flat out banning thru traffic and the like.

The basic idea being - my commute is fine and you people driving through me town need to find another way!

    --------------------

The street that I grew up on had this done many, many moons ago.

But there's an elementary school at the end of the block, so...

On a more serious note, the bumps are an inconvenience for the locals, as well. So they'd be more than happy to not have them present. But when you frequently get drivers tearing up and down your residential streets at speeds that would get them a ticket on a commercial street, then something needs to be done.

Antonio Gramsci died for his views. The Fascists put paid to him, but he made no friends in the PCI either.

He kept arguing that revolution was impossible in the West (because life for the proletariat wasn't bad enough). He argued, for the same reason, that democracy wouldn't deliver these nations to socialism. The weak Western Communists and the strong Eastern ones both hated him for his message of quiet patience and infiltration.

They didn't want to wait for generations. They wanted to bring about the dictatorship of the proletariat in the near-term.

We can now tell that Gramsci was a visionary. His way has worked all over the Western world. People couldn't see it then, but once it became obviously necessary, they gave us Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, and Teresa May.

349 A few years ago when Argentina was still fixing the price of the argie peso to a US Dollar, the black market price for the dollar was called "Blue Dollars" and this price was listed on smart phone apps and in the Argentine national business papers. There was even a blue dollar price for Argentine pesos versus the price of US dollars bought in Uruguay listed in the papers.

Partially because it was because it was Argentina, and partially because everyone knew that the Argentine government had reneged on its pledge to not inflate the Peso after the cock up with the "Austral" fiat money, but mostly I think, because the only thing the government could do about it would be crack down like the Junta had.

The V-6 is a great car, and all the power you could want.

Anything with the "Northstar" badge needs to be avoided at all costs.

Probably one of GMs worst engines ever, from the standpoint of longevity, maintainability and mean-time-between-failures.

And when those failures occur, they're epic, expensive and most often of the cascading variety.

Overheating, gasket failures and a general tendency to collect "gunk" in all internal passages are the hallmarks of the Northstar Fiasco.

What GM shoulda done for compact, FWD power, was to configure an LS-1 motor into the sidewinder installation, and call it a day.

But, no. They had to overthink it. Over-engineer it. And under-execute it.

    AVOID.

Absolutely, but here is the problem: US civics and US history aren't being taught correctly or accurately in many school systems, especially urban public schools. It is instead Globalist - revisionist history, and the Globalist view instead of the American view. America is bad, not good. That is the default position, instead of the Reagan or Clinton era where America was the shining light we all know it is.

Learning the infrastructure of how and why the US Constitution was created, and how it affects us today is ignored. Often it is even misrepresented.

Patriotism is now a dirty word, heritage is good unless you are white, and victimization is the goal that everyone is taught to seek.

Breitbart has an article that sums up where we will go in the future, it's won't copy and paste because of Pixy, but it is at the link. It is about global warming, but the theme is appropriate for much going on today.

Essentially the negative view of the future and stifiling misuse of government power the left spouts, or the positive road we are on with the last 2 years of results.

You can have the losing vision of the Left, or continue the positive results of the last 2 years, but you can't have both. And politicians, it is time to decide.

Classic Portland. They are "road dieting" the arterials, and then are shocked, every time, that traffic starts cutting-through once-quiet neighborhoods in response, especially on those nice, wide streets designated for bicycles.

Normal cities want the traffic on the arterials, precisely because it keeps the traffic off of neighborhood streets. Portland is convinced that if it snarls traffic enough, sooner or later people will be forced out out of their cars.

I've seen a couple of them. Never been impressed by them.

What I do like and think could be useful if used more often (in the right locations) are four-way crosswalks. Those are pretty neat, and do a good job of dealing with turning cars at intersections that get a lot of pedestrians.

378 that traffic starts cutting-through once-quiet neighborhoods in response

I once got in an online debate with someone who I'm pretty sure worked for the Portland Department of Transportation.

He thought that Portland could ban the use of Waze by drivers, or failing that, could force Waze to use Portland's criteria to recommend routes to drivers, rather than having Waze show the fastest route.

Apparently the First Amendment doesn't apply to the provision of accurate traffic information, if it conflicts with the priorities of the Portland Department of Transportation.

But, no. They had to overthink it. Over-engineer it. And under-execute it.

"He already had the reputation as a cool pilot in tight situations; once, during an instrumentation calibration flight in a NACA SB2C-1 Helldiver, the plane's cockpit canopy hood came loose in flight smashing Hoover across the forehead inflicting a deep cut that bled profusely. Though stunned by the blow and blinded by blood flowing into his eyes, Hoover instinctively retained control of the dive bomber, cleared his eyes, and despite his injuries, brought the plane back to Langley for an emergency landing."

There is a place for roundabouts, and in their place, they work fine, and cannot be beat. That place is where you have two moderately-to-well traveled secondary highways, crossing at an angle. They installed one here in Alberta where Hwy. 21 crosses Hwy. 13, near the town of Camrose. Used to be, it had a traffic light there, and regardless of which way you came from, you were almost always guaranteed to hit a red, and then wait 30 seconds while one car or less used the opposing green. Now there is a traffic circle, and you simply approach it, slow down a little, whip around it, and on your merry way. Me like, muchly.

Where traffic circles should not be used, is in quick succession to each other, or in built-up areas, unless designed in from the get-go. Managua, Nicaragua has built-in traffic circles, and they work pretty well. I got used to them OK. They are named for the statue of the hero that is placed in the middle park area. And they are big enough that one does not have to slow to some pitiful slow speed to enter them, or proceed around. And the Nicas sure don't.

    ------------------

It's a bit more than that. One of the biggest issues that people complain about in cities is heavy traffic. Everyone wants to drive their car through the same spot at the same time (example - Downtown Los Angeles). Mass transit in theory offers a way around that. If you can get everyone using mass transit instead of their individual cars, then you can cram a lot more people into the same amount of road space.

It never works, though. And as someone who road the train into Downtown LA for nearly a year for a job I had at the time, I can tell you that the utter and complete incompetence of the people running the LA Metro system is only one of the many reasons why I didn't enjoy the experience.

In Calgary, and Vancouver, where I did most of my urban commuting, the main arteries and the residential streets were all posted at 30 mph. Latterly, some of the arterials were raised to 40 mph, but good luck being able to do that in rush hour.

402 I wonder if the Seattle traffic planners meet in person with their Portland counterparts to create strategy, or do they use a live conferencing app?

They have national conferences to discuss how to snarl traffic to force people out of cars. The joke is, of course, that buses just get caught in the traffic as well.

The proposed solution is to give buses a dedicated lane - unfortunately, the classic arterial road diet in Portland takes a street with two lanes in each direction, and replaces it with one lane in each direction, a center turning lane, and bike lanes. No space for a bus lane.

Even on the remaining streets with two lanes in each direction, if you want to trigger a popular revolt, force all the traffic on a busy street into one lane, keeping the second lane clear, so a bus can use it once every fifteen minutes.

408 Lexington is less monomaniacal than Indiana with the roundabouts. They have a couple on less trafficked roads. There is a weird thing on the road I drive every day: a double crossover. I have watched this thing for a couple years and the streets leading up to them never mesh light wise with the lights on the diamond (what they call the double crossover.) Indeed they are always the opposite of what is in the diamond. So the double crossover operates like a human heart, filling up with cars, disgorging them, then closing off to fill up again.

I have a hard time believing this is the best way for this system to operate.

409 379 The main problem I have with bike lanes is that the car lanes become narrower to accommodate bikes. Now you're nearly banging door panels with the car in the next lane while bikes, if around, use the sidewalk.

My favorite is the bike lanes in the city of Boston -- in quite a few areas, the bike lane is between the travel lane and in the turn lane.

So if you go to switch lanes (like to make a right hand turn), you have to run over a few assholes on bikes.

    It's a fun game.

    Stock PISTON Aero-Commander, even.

Everything he did in those demos was less than 2 Gs. Never stressed the airframes.

But he gave a Tour de Force less in the concept of Energy Conservation and Management in the flight envelope.

His concepts were consumed wholesale by Col. Boyd in his OODA precepts, leading to the "Fighter Mafia" consortium, leading directly to the F-16 Viper, by the way. (much editing, there!)

PITY that Captain Dave and his Flight Level 390 blog are no more.

He could describe an "Energy Management" descent and approach of an Airbus 320/321, in such a manner as to put'cha right there in the Observer's Seat in the cockpit, watching the action.

The ideal "Energy Management" descent and approach, was to pull the throttles back to "Flight Idle" at the Initial Point, and never have to touch the throttles again, all the way to reverse-thrust on landing.

Took a bit of planning, experience, and airmanship.

And was great fun to read, too.

A POX on the corporate aviation entities that'd kill off a treasure like Flight Level 390!

432 Interesting about the vanishing support for police around here.

Does this mean the same people wince or shout when Trump gives lavish praise to the cops, as he does fairly often?

Not arguing or thinking I have found some contradiction, really curious.

Only time been treated to f word in these comments was not that long ago, when I shared my anger and disgust with the law enforcement that meekly complied with laws ("sanctuary") that directly led to the murder of one of their own.

Not sure there's any more civic decay or moral failure in law enforcement than anywhere else - it's just more dramatic and obvious, and leads to more concrete immediate problems. Dunno, not smart enough to figure it out. But smart enough to know there's a deep rot, and it's in the populace and civic culture, not just a few of its institutions.

433 Well, if Wikipedia can be believed, the 2005 1/2 to 2011 Northstar V8's have no more frequency of head-gasket leakage than other aluminum engines. GM used longer LS6 head bolts in those engines.

Haven't done a deal on this car yet, and might not. It would not be big dollars, in any case. Car has body damage from a deer strike.

434 My last GM car was a Saturn LS2. Before that I had a Chevy Cavalier and it ran for 13+ years with nary a problem. Good solid car. The Saturn LS2? Not so much. Ran like a tank with 1 tread falling off, the sun roof would open and not close so I never used it. One of the windows had to have 'help' to close. And it had leaking issues. Everything would start leaking. Also, the second I bought it, GM got rid of Saturn. I vowed no more GM or domestic's until they get there shit together. I bought a '14 Honda Civic and I love it. No problems at all.

In Portland recently, some Antifa types chased conservatives not doing anything, and the Portland police stood by and didn't do anything.

Two options: the Portland police are supporters of the Antifa, at least in spirit, and support them, or

the Portland mayor has abandoned any support of the police, they know it, and refuse to be caught holding the bag when the scene gets out of hand.

But in any case, I wouldn't want to walk in Portland these days. Not the same 10 years ago.

441 @423 Yeah. SF Bay Area trains are like this. They would be pretty convenient, but once the criminals figured out the cameras are fake and transit cops don't actually ride the trains it was open season on commuters.

    -------------------

The trains in Los Angeles get regularly visited by the cops. There's no ticket check when you board the train. So if you didn't see cops board your train at least once a week to double check that tickets had been paid for, over half the riders probably wouldn't pay the fare.

But that doesn't stop the transients catching up on their sleep. Or the food tossed on the floor. Or any number of other things that make the ride less pleasant.

442 In Portland recently, some Antifa types chased conservatives not doing anything, and the Portland police stood by and didn't do anything.

Not just conservatives - journalists generally. You aren't allowed to cover Antifa demonstrations unless you are explicitly pro-Antifa.

the Portland mayor has abandoned any support of the police, they know it

It's the mayor, and two cop-hating city commissioners.

The cops are ordered not to do anything, and the city won't back them up if the cops are accused of doing anything.

The attitude of the Portland cops can be discerned by the fact that 90% of them live in the suburbs - which infuriates Portland "progressives".

It's a corollary of the Mayor Rudy Guiliani back in the 80's - no more broken windows idea. If you let the little things slide, the big problems soon appear. Conversely, fix the broken windows quickly, and the rest of the neighborhood will improve.

The Left doesn't understand this, nor believe it to be true.

And if an individual cop is so disgusted by the situation that they quit (pretty much the only action that they can take if they don't want to keep rolling over, and don't want to be thrown to the wolves), then there's a good chance that they'll be replaced by someone who is an Antifa supporter.

Used to visit frequently, have friends there, haven't been in quite a while, no urge to go back.

Trump accepted it in exchange for some zoning variations to get a more luxurious building. Apparently, it gets mentioned a lot in the news for the public events that happen there. Free advertising forever. Brilliant.

Got a guy who comes into our VFW that hunts hogs nearly everyday. He has multiple freezers full of only the choicest cuts. And he only keeps the meat from hogs that weigh 200 pounds or less. Anything else he shoots he just leaves it for the buzzards and coyotes.

Posted by: rhennigantx at May 14, 2019 07:13 AM (JFO2v)

Yep. Theoretically, tariffs are harmful. However, Donny Two Scoops is using it as a negotiating tool with the thieving Chinese. I have no problem with him swinging this hammer to pare back some of this intellectual property theft.

However, I get very, very angry at some of these business *geniuses* that voluntarily give up their technological advantage to get a toehold into the Chinese market. I recall a GE annual report that talked about installing latest generation turbines in China as part of a deal. And look at GE now. Dumbasses.

It stars Anna Torv (the chick from Fringe), and is a mystery/conspiracy/political/Big Brother drama. I am entertained.

Yep, the very same guy. And he was mysteriously transferred to another Federal prison in West Virginia and was killed the day after he got there.

They tried to do a US version of it a few years back, with Greg Kinnear as the main guy, but it went nowhere. The Aussie series is much, much better.
The short description is that its about a moderately degenerate lawyer and his cases/personal life.

Give it a few episodes, to get a sense of wtf is going on. The thing that struck me was the nearly identical pop cultural references that were made.

598 Now that Barr has started an investigation into the origins of the Trump spying operation if it doesn't go to straight to Obama then ultimately it will be a failure.

The first thing that will be needed to be looked at is the authorities, remember, Susan Rice wrote a CYA memo saying Obama wanted this done, by the book, so the authority has to start with Obama.

Remember this operation used surveillance, espionage, spies, agent provocateurs in multiple countries, contractors, cash payments, honey pots, intelligence operatives of multiple 5 eyes countries, and on and on.

Does anyone understand the authority chain and coordination necessary for the CIA/FBI to conduct these operations both domestically and abroad?

    It's massive.

And if it were done by the book the paper trail should all be there.

So it must start at the top with Obama and like a many tentacled octopus work it's way out to the lowly field agents.

And I have to laugh at Occasional-Cortex's "12 years wasn't literal" excuse for her stupidity. Why 12 years, and not, oh, say 10? One wouldn't automatically come up with the number 12 in a scenario like that. It would be more like 10 year increments. She's lying and backtracking because she was called on her laughable stupidity.
