I Should Call This The Eff Off ONT

Good evening, chillins. How are y'all feeling tonight? Everybody ready for the camps? I think they're on to us.

Sex

Man hires prostitute - and his daughter turns up

I wonder if he got a friends and family discount? It says in the article that the wife wouldn't divorce him because of the trauma it would cause for their children. I'm not sure that that's the big trauma issue in their lives, ma'am. And for something more recent:

A couple shot a porn film in a Tesla on Autopilot while there were 'a lot of cars driving by'

Search @Tesla on Pornhub if you want to see the clip. I took a peek (strictly for professional research purposes, of course) and yup, they appear to be fucking and driving.

Preußens Gloria

(Sound on)

The Religion of Peace

You know that story that's all over the news? You know, about the Mosque in Philadelphia and the kids singng songs about beheading Jews? What's that? You don't? Why surely it got as much press as a Catholic kid smiling at an Indian, right?

No? That is so ODD. Not like the Ministry of Truth MSM to mess up like that.

Well, they warned us. They did warn us. Pity we won't listen.

Not My Type

Here's an interesting article about the different fonts and typesets used in WALL·E . That's kind of an obscure thing to be interested in, but obviously some people are, and they're happy to share their passion with the world.

Ooooops!

Company giving away CL trip tells every contestant they won

British online retail company Zavvi ran a competition for a trip to Madrid for the Champions League final, complete with flights, hotel accommodations, two tickets to the game, and cash to spend. With two Premier League sides reaching the final for the first time ever, there was heightened interest in the competition domestically with fans of both sides hoping to secure a dream trip to watch their team compete.
Unfortunately, a technical error led to every single participant receiving an email indicating they won the prize.

Expensive gaffe, that.

Pussified Navy

Navy Leader Who Told Sailors to 'Clap Like We're at a Strip Club' Has Resigned

A 30 year veteran, Command Master Chief (which I believe is a big fuckin' deal) of an aircraft carrier, and he's out because of some stupid offenderati. We, at all levels of society, need to start telling these people to fuck off.

Related: Editorial: Admiral, I Am NOT Ready For War

Thought provoking piece from the Merchant Marine. I don't know the answer to the problem. Maybe make their quai-military status more military and less quasi? I dunno. Anyone with more knowledge than I have on the MM wanna pitch in?

Two on Politics

America’s System of Self-Government Is Miserable, and Correct

I've seen a lot of Democraps moaning about a “Constitutional Crisis” in the last few days just because their Congress is fighting with the Executive branch. That's not a crisis, in fact it's just the opposite: the system functioning as designed. Furthermore, Congress was supposed to be the “first among equals” branch of the government, but for generations now they've been ceding their powers to the Judiciary and the Executive because they're a bunch of cowards. Frankly, I wish they hadn't done so, but they did, so my response to their whining is the same as the one I outlined above: Fuck off. Don't like it? Take back your powers and do your job.

Yes, Christians Can Support Trump Without Risk to Their Witness

Addressed to America's favorite Pharisees, David and Nancy French. I'm a Christian, and one of my many failings is the schadenboner I suspect I'll get when people like the Frenches discover that Matthew 7:20-23 was referring to them. It is very un-christian to feel that way, but I do. Sigh I am but human.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I don't think it was particularly an Obama thing. There've been a lot of openings for quite a while. I know there were a lot under Dubya. Trump just seems to be the first president in a while that's making a major push to get these positions filled.

The fact that he's got a friendly Senate (which Obama also had for six years), and a Senate Majority Leader who agrees that it's a priority, is helping matters significantly.

which set said from this dock

Its mate, it had stayed home that day
after reading the brochure
thinking nothing could go wrong
on a 3-hour tour (a 3-hour tour)

Since then it's been 10 troubled years
the sock has not come home
with not so much as a text or call

Was it beamed up by space aliens?
or eaten by a whale?
who knows, just buy a brand new pair

106 So, it appears that Pete Buttigieg is the new It candidate for the Democrats - he's in California raising tons of money thus week, and Kamala Harris is apparently terrified that he is peeling off some of the California billionaires she was counting on to fund her campaign.

I am sure that a number of Democratic political types are quietly meeting, and whispering to each other a plain, but unmentionable truth - that nominating a homosexual will markedly decrease support for the Democrats among black voters.

Why? Three reasons:

1) A lot of black voters will oppose a homosexual candidate for religious and cultural reasons. There is a reason why Cory Booker remains "fiercely heterosexual" - coming out as gay would cause the New York Times to swoon, but wouldn't play that well in Newark and Camden.

2) A lot of blacks are pissed that homosexuals get affirmative action preferences, when they are essentially indistinguishable from other elite whites.

I.e.: "We didn't hire a black person for this high-profile position, but we did hire a white lesbian, so you can't criticize us."

Doing this for the Democratic presidential nomination would be viewed as a classic example of this - passing over a couple of black candidates for someone who is just like Beto, except in sexual tastes.

3) For the substantial fraction of American blacks who have moved in the last thirty years due to gentrification, Buttigieg and his husband look just like the people who drove them out of their old neighborhood.

First the gays move in (since they don't care how bad the local schools are), and then the bike lanes come in, and then the local black barbershop is replaced by a Pilates hot yoga studio, and then the blacks move out.

It will be interesting to see how rapidly Kamala Harris' people start leaking to the media that nominating Buttigieg is guaranteed to depress black turnout.

The Powderhorn Gun Store

N.W. Loop 410, between Hwy 90 and N.W. Military Drive. On the Northbound access road.

Ask for David Day, owner.

The store was founded by the late Bob Day, former USAF armorer for competition weapons *and* the maker of the estimable Day Arms 1500 PPC competition revolver.

First class, old fashioned gun store, with a very deep knowledge reserve. Both technical and historical.

If that's not a Tourist Highlight, I don't know what is?

Maybe the standard procedure/etiquette has changed since back when I used to be a deejay at one, but everyone used to always clap after each song.

True story. My husband would hang out in cool corner every day with the boss and the regulars for a couple hours while I was working. They never really paid much attention to the girls, but were like trained seals as far as "when the music ends", clap your hands.

During this period of our lives we had occasion to be attending a funeral service. My husband unthinkingly, by rote, started clapping after the first hymn. I thought his mom was gonna club him upside the head.

Well, I managed to get back in the saddle so to speak. The saddle of my 7710 tractor to do some bushhogging. Little damned trees are growing up in some of the fields and it's time to get my ass in gear.

I got the 15' bush hog hooked up, did a little TLC on that tractor, got some fuel in it, etc. I was going to make a round or two just to see if everything was in working order.

But, the sights and sound got to me, and I got the fever. I engaged the PTO, the revved up. A burst of jet black smoke shot out the stack, and I heard the sound of the turbocharger spinning up. "Whoozzzzhhh!".

That sound gives me a raging hard-on. It's the sound of power. And so does the black smoke. It was some heavy slogging, and that tractor was at near full power, and the sound just gets to me. I went for a couple of hours until after 9PM.

Reluctantly, I quit. If I had decent lights on the thing, I would've likely gone 'til midnight.

At full power, the turbo on that tractor spins at about 120K RPM. Some diesel turbos hit 200K RPM. It blows my mind.

One of the worst things you can do is stop a turbocharged engine after it's been running full blast. Those things spin on engine oil, with a heavy pressure tube keeping a flow of oil through the sleeve bearings.

If you stop it, and thus stop the oil flow, the bearings can seize, and fry the static oil in the sleeve from the heat.

My domain has been hosted through Yahoo for a couple of decades now. And they have lately sh!t the bed to the point where I want to get away from them. They're not expensive, much, but they're now so unreliable, undependable, "weirdly weird for no reason" and so arcane/unreachable in their tech support realm that I am really looking to get out. I literally had to go to outside forums to solve a problem with email, something Yahoo apparently insisted didn't exist (except, of course, that it did).

I don't need much, just the domain name and email. A bit of storage, less than 1 gig I'm pretty sure.

Thanks to all who reply.

I remember years being at the big Sunbelt Ag Expo down in Moultrie, GA. It's a test farm run by the U of GA IIRC, and, around harvest time, they have the expo, where all the manufacturers show up and demonstrate their equipment.

Some of the ag students get to drive a lot of that equipment. I remember we all laughed one time when one of those young boys stopped a tractor, actually stopping the engine when he got the end of the line, and had to wait to turn on some other tractors. THey were plowing, and they had a whole bunch of tractors.

The factory man for that tractor saw that, and ran out of there and just about jerked that kid out of the cab, blessing him out for stopping that engine like that.

Most automotive turbos have electrically powered coolant pumps, either oil or from the radiator system, with a jacket around the turbo bearing.

That pump continues to deliver fluid after the engine is turned off, until such time as the turbo's residual heat falls to acceptable levels.

Without that system, "automotive turbos" would be an impossibility. Joe Suburb and Sally Soccermom ain't got the discipline to sit and idle-cool the system until the temps fall to non-damaging levels.

It's increasingly common in marine turbos, and even in Class 8 heavy trucks.

I wonder why it's not there in tractor tech world?

I got used to that routine, running various Detroit 8V71s and 12V91s on some rather nice mahogany motoryachts.

Old school diesel power...it it's running, it's leaking.

Aboard older Detroit powered workboats, the position of "wiper" was an aptly named job, indeed.

And concur on the warm up and cool down periods. Those gauges on the panel at the helm weren't just there for décor.

200 So on Rush's show today, he talks about Tom Friedman's latest column on how to beat Trump--by getting a RINO to run as an independent in the general. The theory being that the RINO would siphon off votes in close states, and hand the election to the Democrat. Rush says he's heard whispers within the GOP that they are going to do just that--by running someone like Romney or Sasse.

Here's my problem with that strategy. If you're going to vote for someone like, say Mittens, you probably weren't going to vote for Trump anyway. If you're a Romney fan, you know he's not gonna win. You know it's a vote for Biden (or whoever the nominee is). I don't think it will work. What say all of you?

On comics I've done, I've had geek notes that included, among other trivial details, all the fonts employed in the work, right down to whose fonts they were, if I could find out. For ex:

"That Hebrew-looking English font was linked to in an amusing discussion on why not to use a Hebrew-looking English font, which I did anyway, at Typophile [link]. Here's the Tanach font [link], ©Typographer Mediengestaltung 2003."

237 Here's my problem with that strategy. If you're going to vote for someone like, say Mittens, you probably weren't going to vote for Trump anyway. If you're a Romney fan, you know he's not gonna win. You know it's a vote for Biden (or whoever the nominee is). I don't think it will work. What say all of you?

I concur. That might have worked in 2016, but not now. And Im sure many here would disagree, but I dont think Romney is so bitter or traitorous that he would intentionally hand the election to a dem.

240 220. A proven strategy.

McMuffin took more votes in MN (53K) than H's margin of victory over Trump (45K).

I don't think those McMuffin voters would have switched their votes to Trump.

Posted by: Mike at May 09, 2019 11:13 PM (c056A)

241 by getting a RINO to run as an independent in the general.

This has obviously been the NeverTrump cucks' strategy for awhile now - run a GOPe candidate in the primaries to wound Trump, and then run a different GOPe candidate in the general election to finish Trump off.

Their problem is that Trump is unprecedentedly popular among actual Republicans - the number of people who are going to support William Weld instead of Trump is effectively zero.

The GOPe candidates will still get funding, though - they may not get any votes, but they will say bad things about Trump, which the media can seize on to say "even real Republicans hate Trump".

I'm trying to remember something about some old two-stroke designs. It some Detroit model used in earth moving equipment. Big boys with long strokes.

It had an air started, and a problem was sometimes that would kick back, and give the engine a reverse kick. The problem was the engine would run backwards.

And it would run away, because the governor wouldn't work right running backwards. Anyway, I remember a tale of a racing engine. The normal stop control wouldn't work, and the thing was blowing out the breather and sucking through the exhaust stack.

I'm trying to visualize if that would work. The blower would be turning backwards.

Anyway, according to that it was an oil air cleaner, and it was blowing oil out of the intake, with them desperately trying to choke the air intake through the stack or something like that.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at May 09, 2019 11:08 PM (NMAzL)

You're right, and I'll blame oldtimers for the memory lapse. Still, they had to cool down, all the same. And for related reasons.

No, they didn't spin OMG rpm. But they did manage a LOT of heat in those blowers, and the huge housings would hold a LOT of that as residual heat.

Same bearing problem, but on the drive side, and the gear-train that drove the thing.

Conversely, the harbor tour boat with it's 300 hp Cummins inline six... dear Lord, there's nothing good I can say about that maintenance nightmare of a marine powerplant.

Best thing the Skipper ever did on that one was invest the $$ in a John Deere Marine Diesel. Kind of an odd brown/tan/grey blend paint on the block, but I'll tell you this.

It was smoother, quieter, more fuel efficient and NOT a brass plated bitch to work on, either.

Back to those GM 8V71s. Just about every municipal bus in the '70s & '80s seem to run those powerplants.

Made finding used parts for boat spares far cheaper than would otherwise have been the case.

Diesel engines on oil drilling rigs, and also on trucks that service them, have "motor kills", which are nothing more than big valves to close off the engine air intakes. Because if you had a release of combustible gas from the well, a nearby Diesel could suck it in, and run out of control, start scattering parts, and hence cause an explosion.

So, periodically, you will see "f/t motor kills" in the rig service entry on the tour sheet.

289 Andy Ngo, the conservative journalist in Portland who was attacked in an athletic club, as reported by JJ Sefton a couple of days ago, and was targeted and bear sprayed at a Antifa melee on May Day, has a horrific thread up on Twitter.

Portland Antifa has been targeting and assaulting journalists (both independent and working for local media) at demonstrations for months, and the Portland cops stand aside, watch, and do nothing, since they "don't want to escalate the situation".

Seriously, when does Trump send in the Department of Justice - Portland refuses to do anything about journalists, ICE employees, ICE vendors, businesses near ICE being harassed and assaulted, as a matter of city policy.

Portland Antifa is sending the message that you will be attacked if you try to report on Antifa demonstrations (unless you work for a couple of far-left news outlets), and the city refuses to do anything about it.

Fun fact about the ubiquitous futuristic "Eurostile" typefaces featured in the article...

They were based on Microgramma. That display font was designed in the fifties for the television age, which is reflected in the roughly 4:3 aspect ratio of the letters, and their rounded corners.

As soon as people saw it, it became synonymous with "future," and remains so to this day.

By analogy, sort of, I have seen the remains of a DC series motor where the shunt opened up and it ran away. In this case it was a BIG open frame motor at a steel mill, probably 5' in diameter.

The best strategy in that case is ' RUN! ' ! Shrapnel ripped out the roof and walls of the building where it was located, also pulverized the foundation.

305 279 I am a total lurker. I have socked a few comments before mostly about stupid rock and roll stuff over probably 5 years or so. But today I feel the need to make an actual announcement.

My daughter (age 32) and her husband have given me and my wife our first and most likely only grandchild. All is well the baby boy is lovely and my daughter is fine. My wife and I are impatiently waiting to visit them and see the little new guy.

But the main reason to comment now is this.

My daughter and her husband are not readers of this blog. Far from it. Still for some currently unknown and awesome reason they have named their first born

Ace.

307 There are plenty of us who are actually prepared to answer the questions gcaptain asked in his article. I can comfortably integrate a civilian ship into a naval convoy, and properly execute maneuvers, communications, and darken ship if required.
A large percentage of the ships operated by my company work regularly with military operations. In cases where a ship that does not usually do that is required to take on such a mission, particularly in time of war, they just make sure that one of us with the correct training, certifications and experiences is moved to that ship prior to the mission.
The article discussed WW2, but not so much the Gulf war. During that time, many hundreds of civilian ships were able to join convoys, use the military comms systems, navigate around minefields, train their crews on chemical warfare defense procedures, and even how to file for combat pay when in areas where it is available.
Beyond that, there are small USN and USMC units who specialize in arriving at the last civilian port before the ship enters the theater. They have comms gear to set up on the bridge, arms and security to train and augment the ship's security teams, and provide an interfe between the ship's officers and and the naval forces. Also helicopter control and firefighting teams, if needed.
I guess I should summarize with the statement that just because one person does not know those answers, it does not preclude the possibility that others are always working on the issue, and how best to implement it on a large scale when needed.

never lose your temper, or be able to be perceived as doing so (written words lack tone).
Be humorous in your responses, because it kills them, which often provides a great contrast between your cool funny persona, and their hot NPC talking point one.

had one today on a local news site, where I was called first a koolaid drinker, then a devotee of faux news, then a Russian bot.

by three different people, none of whom came back after I pointed out the ad hominems, and made my next point.

It doesn't matter if people LIKE you, and they don't know it but it really doesn't matter if other NPCs like THEM: it's all seals barking on cue and by script, so don't worry about it, keep calm, and get your points out there--someone will see them and read them, who needs to.

318 ARC, the failure of DOJ (Trump admin.) to do something serious about things like the Portland "government's" behavior is a disaster. It wasn't Fort Sumter, but it was every bit as much rebellion as many things that have caused federal forces to be moved in our modern history.

But that's part of the overall failure to confront "sanctuary" lawlessness. Or to even confront the *GOP* acquiescence in such things (might have been nice to, oh, mention it during the first two years, with a "GOP" House).

There's quite a bit of blood accumulating, and it's close to the point where it will be on federal hands - for failing to take action - as much as on the hands of idiotic "sanctuary" jurisdictions (and their law enforcement).

Then again, whatever. Nobody cares. Even when the propaganda, er, "press" blackout is pierced, occasionally (as with the Christmas day cop killing in CA ..... that was good for what? 48 hours of outrage? among a tiny slice of public figures?). Not a country. Just people living around each other.

I was going to suggest the regular US Army, but you're right - your average Oregon National Guard soldier has no love for Antifa. There aren't a lot of Guard soldiers coming from hipster neighborhoods in Portland.

The National Guard may be necessary when Trump gets reelected - surburban police departments are now refusing to send their cops into Portland, and the explosion of rage and violence in Portland when Trump wins again will be something to behold.

344 Problem with Merchant Marine being somehow included in our war prep is that the US has few ships that carry the American Flag. Most are flagged in other countries. Predominantly the ones that flag them on the cheap and have no pesky rules or if they do have them they are few.

So what happens is we have a lot of American Captains with Licenses issued by the US Coast Guard but with few ships that are American.

Thus the quandary; how the hell do you coordinate a bunch of officers on ships that don't have an allegiance or will obey American rules?

And frankly it's a problem without a lot of concern. If this guy is bothere this much he can take a reserve Navy position thus assuaging his concern.

I'm not sure but technically I'm in the Merchant Marine. I am a licensed as a Deckhand or Engine Wiper by the Coast Guard. Total Merchant Marine is about 72k on 465 ships world wide. A drop in the bucket.

Panama leads the number of ships and there's about 50,000 world wide of all flags.

I think this kind of questioning would bother Biden mostly because he WAS out of the loop.

He always made such a yuuuuge show of being close to the Lightworker, constantly referring to him as "Barack," as if they were best buddies. (Can you imagine Cheney referring to Bush as "George" ?!?)
I found it rather sad, TBH. It was so contrived.

Portland metro area, yes. City of Portland, no. (Portland has about 30% of the population in the metro area - as in most places, the large majority of the population lives in suburbs.)

Portland just elected a rabidly anti-police city commissioner. Portland has the politicians and policies that it has, because that's what the voters want.

The problem for the 70% of the Portland metro area that doesn't live in Portland is that Portland's kind of centrally located, and Portland's problems tend to spill over its borders.

For example, property crime is absolutely rampant in Portland (in part because the DA generally refuses to prosecute mere property crimes), and you are seeing some of that spill over into the suburbs. Not a lot, but some.

As a completely unforeseen result, big supermarkets are starting to shut down in the poorer neighborhoods of Portland, because they are being ravaged by organized shoplifting rings, and the cops and the DA refuse to do anything about it.

"Activists" can then scream that much of lower-income Portland is a "food desert", because there are no supermarkets nearby. This obviously requires more governmental funding, and giving more power to "activists".

This way lies Chaos.

Posted by: Don Q at May 10, 2019 01:23 AM (NgKpN)

415 Well, no, not even close.

Immigration laws are not "their laws". By definition.

Since we don't have internal borders or travel controls, it's not "their state".

That's the entire point about "sanctuary" lawlessness. The drugs and mayhem and vehicular homicides and gang murders and rapes and social welfare burden and impact on wage scales are *everywhere*, not just in the "sanctuary" jurisdictions.

I sort of started this, but it wasn't about Portland's idiocy or antifa, but about rule of law and rebellion against legit federal authority. As when Portland refused to maintain order around the ICE offices.

And as noted, we are getting to the point where the blood is on federal hands - for refusing to do their duty, and not impose their will on the lawless locals (whose idiocy affects everyone outside their jurisdiction). And lame (and possibly legally weak) lawsuits are *not* an effective response.

461 Would have to confirm, but I think that language would only address asylum petitioners not crossing at ports of entry - the problem would remain of bogus asylum seekers (all of them, really, if we're talking about the current case load, and the purpose of asylum) deluging the ports of entry. Things are actually so bad it's moved beyond bogus asylum. Only a small number of illegal crossers even make the (usually laughable, scripted) claims any more.

Apprehensions in May on track to exceed record, which was April.

Note that only the small % of the population that follows things would assume, sensibly, that anything with Cornyn involved was unlikely to be welcomed. Trump and the sane rule of law camp is vastly outnumbered in the Beltway (though the reverse is true in the country as a whole). But since Trump refuses to confront the GOP, and the country's voters can't be bothered to actually enforce their will at the ballot box, outside areas of legit broad executive power, not much will be accomplished.

An interesting thing is that immigration judges are not Article III judges; they are in the (in my opinion) legally dubious class of administrative law judges, and employees of the Executive Branch.

So Trump could hire five thousand Judge Smales-illegals will get nothing, and like it!

When I was Active Duty and Civil Service I spent a metric butt ton of my time dealing with the drama from both military and civilian females.

Yes he does. He is doing what the liberals do, wish casting.

And the good part of this entire mess is if Trump wins a second term the statute of limitations for "obstruction of justice" will have expired long before he leaves office. I would love to see anyone try to arrest Trump after he leaves office. The $hitstorm that would follow that would be epic!

562 Well my sister is off to Israel for a tour of the Holy Land. Our church does this every couple of years. So while she is over there sight seeing and dodging missiles, I'll be cat sitting. Her to two furry overlords will have a new subject to boss around. They've been over here many times so it's sort of a vacation home for them with the added bonus of a frumpy middle aged guy as there servant.

571 The Command Master Chief story: I recall a TV movie in the 70's or so. David Soul was the Captain of a nuke sub, and Robert Conrad was his XO. The Navy is running an experiment on the crews reaction of firing the nukes. Only the Captain and XO know it is a drill. They have 4 fake nukes to fire. Conrad is on some med's he did not get thru the Navy, for personnel reasons. Conrad starts to notice that the crew is on edge, like they all have stick up their ass. He is relaying a incident to the Captain of a fight. A senior sailor is busting on a newby. Tells him this will be a long cruse, and does he have any naked pictures of his girlfriend. The kid says "No." The senior guys says "Want to buy some?". Well the Captain goes ballistic about not having any pornography on his boat. Conrad figures out he and the rest of the crew have lost it. Do not recall if it was the air filtration system, or new paint that is causing it. Well, when the drill starts the Captain orders to fire the full complement of missiles. Not just the 4 fakes, that were there to judge the crews reaction. I know al long way to go for the old joke, but whatever the catalyst was. It has now gone nation wide at the Universities.
