The world will never forgive the Jews for not letting Hitler and his acolytes finish the job. And the rise of Israel from the ashes of the Holocaust drove them insane, when they realized that Israel was not going to be a beggar state, easily destroyed by its neighbors, and would rapidly become a technological, military and social powerhouse.

The terrorists who run Gaza have launched hundreds of rockets into Israel. Where is the world now? Where is the condemnation of Hamas?

As formidable as the Israelis appear to be, it must be remembered that they're also quite lucky in their opponents.

An apocryphal story that applies is that once upon a time, Moshe Dayan was asked about how the IDF was able to build themselves up into such an impregnable military force.

"Surely the level of training and experience has something to do with the IDF's success."

Now, I'm not nearly that cynical about the IDF's prowess, but it doesn't mean that the quality of one's opponents should be ignored either. One thing that concerns me about US forces is that we've been fighting incompetent mohammedans for so long that I have some lingering doubts about our abilities against a more robust opponent that actually knows what they're doing.

Fun fact: the USSR supported the creation of Israel because they figured it would be a socialist state, and a beachhead in that region. That's why the USSR did not veto the creation of Israel in the UN.

Look up the list of current conflicts on wiki. The VAST majority are not just taking place in mohammedan countries/borders, but they have a very specific mohammedan motivations and goals. Once you take the mohammedans out of the equation, the world actually looks like a pretty peaceful place (outside of Africa, which is the only place more consistently violent and bloodsoaked than the mohammedan lands).

What really concerns me is their attack on Western culture and Christianity. To tie Russia into this, during the Cold War, they spent considerable time and money researching human emotional responses and psychology, which the appear to have weaponized to a great degree. That's why I comment about psychology so much, even though I'm just a layman. I still know what I see happening to our culture and how it's being manipulated to accept all sorts of totally foreign ideas and concepts. One needn't be an expert to see it. The Gaza strip is even now little more than a real life version of the city-sized prison in "Escape from New York". The rockets they fire are a minor annoyance, not a serious military threat, and they talk crap but they are really nothing but a giant pack of beggars living in a cess pit that the rest of the world has lost interest in.

The solution? Keep them penned in and let them rot in their cess pit for another 50 years. Or 100.

269 I think I may have come up with a workaround for my Linux problem I mentioned in #22.

I want to keep my existing Mac setup, so I bought a new hard drive to install Linux on to play around with. I downloaded Linux Mint onto that drive, and the instructions said I had to create a bootable USB drive to boot from in order to install it. I have to download and use a program called Etcher to create the bootable USB drive. But Etcher doesn't work on my antiquated version of the Mac OS.

I have a newer Windows computer at work. I'll try to see if Etcher will work on that and create the bootable USB drive there. Then I should be able to use it to boot my home Mac into Linux. I guess we'll see.

and the problem with that is - Gaza has lost any semblance of a foreign military, the enemy they face is essentially the entire so-called civilian population of Gaza.

Now, a true military response that would be arguably be justified would be to drop a string of 6 - 7 nukes in a line down the center of the Gaza Strip, and after things have cooled off bulldoze the radioactive ruins into the Mediterranean. But the Israelis, understandably, don't feel it's a good look for them to conduct an actual, literal, genocide, even though it might be called for.

Also, they don't want to run it for the same reason we would be insane to invade and annex Mexico - once you own it, you've got the responsibility for feeding and housing millions of ungrateful beggars. Bad bad idea.

We should point out that giving the Sinai back to Egypt has worked out quite well for them. The Egyptian military is helping them to keep Gaza pinned in from the south side, and there are significant groups of terrorists and malcontent Bedouin in Sinai that now spend all their malicious effort on ambushing Eqyptian military patrols, rather than Israeli ones. The Sinai peninsula turns out to be one of those pieces of territory that is better NOT to own, because it will always be more trouble than its worth. (especially because it's worth nothing on its own)

Gaza and it's terrorist-hive camps are administered by the UN/PA and not Israel. This would require an invasion against the UN.

I have a Mac Pro with a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor. I think it's 64 bit but I'm not sure.

The problem is that I'm using OS 10.6.8 and Etcher requires 10.9 or later. Mac is up to 10.14 by now. The Apple Store doesn't even carry 10.9 any more. In order to upgrade, I'd literally have to find a 10.9 disc at a yard sale.

But the Romans didn't take them in, and the Gallic women and children starved to death. Ultimately Vercingetorix was captured, paraded in Caesar's triumph, and was then strangled.

That's the beauty of Mint, almost turnkey. There are a few command line things that you should have available though. Lots of LINUX stuff on the 'net and there should be a cheatsheet out there as well.

Indeed. The difference at Masada, was that the fathers who killed their families had been born during the siege. They never gave up, from cradle-to-grave. The Romans respected that.

From what I've read, it can go up to 10.11. I don't think I can go directly from 10.6.8 to 10.11. I'd have to upgrade to intermediate versions, and Apple doesn't even offer them any more. I think I literally can't get there from here.

But what I really want to do is install Linux, and that's a pretty circuitous way to go about it.

The Jews, however, had a jealous God who would not allow recognizing the gods of pagan conquerors.
Nor could they compromise too much on the Law.

Accommodation could be (and was) made, for the most part, but there were always occasional glitches, whether we're talking about the Babylonian, Persian, Greek, or Roman empires.

And why does it seem nobody ever mentions all those killed alongside the Jews? The USHMM puts the holocaust deaths at 17 million--6 million Jews and 11 million other "undesirables." Hell, the mean estimate of total deaths is around 84 million. Take about 12 million out for the axis powers along with the 6 million Jews and that leaves you with 66 million other deaths...10 times that of the Jewish people.

Also, Israel did not become the powerhouse that it is all alone, and let's not pretend they're just innocent lambs here either.
