If you're a Muslim immigrant in Sweden, you can do just about any damn thing you please and not be deported. Two lower courts had ruled that the man, a 33-year-old Somali citizen, should be deported after serving a jail sentence for rape, but the Supreme Court overturned this decision while extending his jail sentence by four months. The reason for ruling against deportation was that his ties to Sweden were considered to be strong, although two of the five Supreme Court justices argued the seriousness of the crime outweighed this and that he should be expelled. The man was first found guilty of rape by Linköping District Court, after he forced himself on a woman he did not know while they both stayed overnight at a mutual friend's apartment. Once upon a time Great Britain was the greatest country in the world. The UK is no longer great and continues to slide down the slope of ridicule. Employers in the UK are considering banning handshakes. It may seem harmless enough, but handshakes in the workplace could become a thing of the past under new physical contact rules being considered in the U.K., according to one human resources expert. Kate Palmer, an associate director of advisory at the HR consultancy firm Peninsula, said employers in the U.K. may enact a complete ban on physical contact in order to avoid expensive sexual harassment suits. “Does shaking someone’s hand go too far?” she told the U.K. Metro newspaper. “They may just say ‘no contact at all’ because there’s no grey area. It makes it simple, but it takes away affection, which in some ways is a sad thing,” she told the U.K. Metro newspaper. Feelings. Nothing more than feelings. Employers in the UK are considering banning handshakes.
There is a subtext to this, of course, which is that many Muslims in the UK refuse to shake hands with a member of the opposite sex. As with other customs, this practice is correlated with the percentage of Muslims in the population - refusing to shake hands is still rare in the United States, but is increasingly common in Europe. There is still some pushback - a week ago, France's highest administrative court upheld a decision to deny a French passport to an Algerian Muslim who refused to shake hands with officials during her citizenship ceremony, and Switzerland fines parents up to $5,000 if their children refuse to shake hands with teachers. One suspects this pushback will become rarer as the Muslim population of Europe continues to increase. Posted by: The ARC of History! at April 28, 2019 10:16 PM (I2/tG) 45

Sharkman, can't agree. It's nonsense that "conflict of interest" would have any effect on prosecution of what were actually criminal abuses of power - all of which began prior to Sessions' swearing in. The "logic" there is .... well, there is no logic there.
So any AG must recuse himself from any situation involving criminal abuse of power by anyone subordinate to him? What? Not my hobby to follow the history of analogous situations, but this would mean no DOJ employees (all of whom are ipso facto subordinate to the AG) have been investigated, prosecuted, and convicted in the past? Because I am unaware of any AG recusals in remotely analogous situations. Posted by: rhomboid at April 28, 2019 10:23 PM (QDnY+) Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at April 28, 2019 10:23 PM (aKsyK) 67

MisHum: A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for portions of the Northland where a total of 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected. Total snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected elsewhere.
High today in NE Okla., 76°, 70s and 80s mostly for the next week, lows in the high 50s, 60s. Little bit of rain by mid-week, though. Inch or so. Rough. So pretty. All the greenery. A couple of years ago I wanted to make a crawfish pie. I looked in all my cookbooks. I've got a lot of cookbooks, including a Picayune Creole Cookbook from the 1920s which includes cocktail recipes for (wink, wink) "historical interest."
None of them had a recipe for crawfish pie. I think Fats Domino invented the dish just to make a rhyme in the song "Jambalaya." So I made a pie crust and filled it with a thickish batch of crawfish etouffee. Worked pretty well. I hereby declare that to be the official recipe. I suppose I should have posted this to the Book Thread this morning, but I forgot.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a hardcover of The Hobbit at Barnes & Noble because my old paperback is falling apart. Day before yesterday I got email spam from B&N: "We noticed you bought J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit. Try the sequel! The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkein!" I know that, technically, it's true, but somehow that's like marketing Huckleberry Finn as the sequel to Tom Sawyer. Again, technically true. If you are basing your morality on a fairy tale written thousands of years ago, you deserve to be locked up...detained for your utter inability to deal with reality..
LOL. If you don't believe in some sort of meta-physical structure - some purpose to existence - then there is no such thing as "morality". These idiots drive me nuts with their utter stupidity. I wouldn't mind them being so impenetrably dumb if they weren't a bunch of self-important, self-righteous pricks who like to act as if they had more than two brain cells. Some atheist dipshit who doesn't believe there is any meaning to existence is going to lecture me about morality? Make me laugh. His universe doesn't include anything approaching "morality". He's just either too stupid to understand that or too cowardly to admit it, which makes his claims of "atheistic science worshiper" even more of a farce than they seem. Storing and processing music in the cloud depends on vast data centers that use a tremendous amount of resources and energy.
Storing and processing (?) music takes almost no memory and very little bandwidth. Period. It's friggin music. You could stream it over old phone modems it takes so little bandwidth. This guy trying to equate storing some small files on a gigantic cloud system with the cost of the cloud system, itself, is much like an article I read where they were trying to make Samuel L. Jackson out to be the biggest box office star ever by saying that every dollar of any movie he was in was totally credited to him (even though he very rarely carries any movies - the few he's been the main star of have been generally been box office turds, even if they were good movies). But he was in the first Jurassic Park and that made a billion dollars, so they put that billion on the total of "tickets sold to Sam Jackson movies". Most people can't even remember that he was in the first Jurassic Park - that's how small of an impact his role had. And he sucked in the first Jurassic Park. His role as cool, brilliant scientist was really a sort of joke. Friggin Newman did a better job in that respect. So, saying that music on the cloud is such a huge cost because the clouds are huge and eat up tons of electricity is a joke. All the music collections of everyone in the world, together, don't add up to one Florida Man's porno collection in memory size and bandwidth/CPU use. I recollect that the 68-69 Camaro Z-28 (*sigh, those were the days*) spoiler became effective at around 140 mph. Part of the homolgation game though, so sold as part of the package.
Ah yes, the headers came in the trunk. And GM's shovel-mounted front subframe was a big hinge in the structure. You could get Ford's horrid linkage-boosted power steering on a Boss 302, which just about destroyed the feel of the car. I've recently been driving past a '68-69 Barracuda fastback. It's on a flatbed and tinworm has taken most of the lower body, but it's restorable given an appropriate wallet. There is an original '71 Z/28 under a cover a two blocks from here. It's gone nowhere for the past five years, and every time I walk past it I'm tempted to put a check in their mailbox and see if they bite, which given everything else I need to finish means I go out of my way not to go there. My exciting activity for this evening is sorting through about a gallon of Canadian pennies (now obsolete, but still legal tender).
1996 and prior are mostly pure copper, with a melt value of about 2 cents each, U.S. Newer ones, up to final year 2012, are copper plated zinc and/or steel, and melt value is less than face value. And there are a few years with partial mintings of "oddball" coins with decent collector value. So I am sorting into 3 containers: one of face value coins to roll and take to the bank, one of copper coins for scrap value, and one of possible collector coins. If I cannot read the date, they go into the first bin, of face value coins. If they are that cruddy, they are unlikely to be of collector value even if they happen to be one of the few oddball types. And if they are really copper, well all I lose by doing that is about a cent. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 28, 2019 11:33 PM (hZlbC) 332
Watching MSNBC's 2016 election coverage on YouTube to lift my spirits. Early in the evening and Hillary has a 97% chance of winning. Chilling. A cocky Ana Marie Cox is telling Lawrence O'Donnell, who is nearly pissing himself with excitement at the impending Hillary victory, that even though we're going to win tonight, we have a lot of work to do and a lot of rooting out of social evils because Trump actually got this far. 185 -- Braenyard -- You must be talking about people from Ho Chunk, Inc. They are the management team for all of the Winnebago Indians' businesses. One of the Winnebago picked up an MBA about twenty, twenty five years ago and came back home with the idea that, properly managed, the Winnebago tribe could become self sufficient and get away from the all too common reservation problems, such as alcohol and drug addiction. The Winnebago have made great progress over the years. A lot of Winnebago money comes from their casinos, but they also have a number of other businesses -- all employing Winnebago. I believe most of the profits are plowed back into the business, but that's after wages are paid, schools and health services are improved, and better housing built. They are working very hard to pull themselves up by the boot straps.

That's one of the unstated facts when the Left and environmentalists worship Europe - that living standards in Europe are objectively much lower, no matter what games you play with exchange rates to try to make Europe seem richer.
To have a standard American single-family house with a backyard, and a couple of family cars, would place you well, well into the upper classes in Europe. Contrary to what you have been told, Europeans have much smaller dwellings and are much more dependent on public transit because that's all that they can afford - not because they have piously voluntarily rejected a suburban American lifestyle. If Trump/Sessions/etc knew, and Strzok/Page/etc did not, that could be quite a setup. Some of the texts from them indicate a f*ckton of hubris Posted by: barbarausa I don't think they knew what Adm. Rogers told Trump on Nov 17, 2016, which is why Strzok and Page were trying to sneak a spy into the White House after the inauguration to collect intelligence. They knew Adm. 37-Year-Old Navy SEAL Hero Rejected by NY Fire Department for Being Too Old -- Report
On Oct. 25, he scored in the top 1 percent of 43,900 candidates who took the FDNY written exam, and then on Jan. 1 passed the Candidate Physical Ability Test, the Post reported. But on Feb. 1, he learned his age disqualified him. Under FDNY rules, a military service veteran would have had to have been no older than 35 as of April 5, 2017, to qualify. As of that date, Donovan was 35 years, six months and 25 days old, which meant the city rejected him, according to the Post. *** In its reporting, the Post said individuals have been hired when they were past the age of eligibility if they had been ruled victims of discrimination." These people are NOT well, they are not rational, their expectations of government in general are completely unreasonable. This is not natural, they have been innoculated against facts, logic, and reason. It is criminal what is happening in this nation, what is being done to people. Yes, they are victims, but I will not hesitate to put one right through the running lights if they fuck with me, and I've little doubt that's coming. I didn't say I liked it. I can well imagine losing an election is excruciatingly painful, but it comes with the territory.
Mrs. Clinton was never a genuine politician, seems to me. One big pile of scripted bullshit her whole "career". Consequently she was incapable of going out there, and thanking her supporters. And let's face it, only True Believers are going to line up for something like that, for the most part. In fact this should be prima facie evidence to her loyal supporters she is not qualified for any public office. They were being used, and when they were no longer useful, well, fuck them. Maybe some of those tears at the Javits Center were recognition of that fact. Let's hope so. Posted by: Common Tater at April 29, 2019 12:56 AM (XUnia) 493

Maybe the last non booze sodden synapse in her cranium realized if she had waddled out there, she would have gone into a full screaming rage of vented spleen.

----------- I don't believe that she was drunk, and I'm sure she was "dissatisfied". Even if she was drunk, however, or regardless, at some point in time she made a cogent and lucid decision to start drinking to excess, and said "fuck those people, I'm not going out there." It is interesting there are NO accounts, written or otherwise, of the timeline at the Clinton HQ from about 7PM EST say, till the next day. It must be glorious! SOMEBODY has audio, or video. When Podesta went out I was afraid they were going to try and litigate. I inferred from the whole thing there was enormous pressure on the networks not to make the call, in order presumably for the democrats to "deliver the vote". >>>572 It is what it is And it is difficult, yes. I do know. Mom is mostly cheerful. Lately tho, she has been having some very belligerent days. And it worries me that she hasn't shown much interest in being outside in her flower garden. Hopefully as the weather improves that will change, but I'm thinking that this apathy is the new normal. Three of our kids still live in state and they are helpful, but they need to live their lives at my insistence. I do have the most wonderful neighbors on the face of the earth, but I guess I'm kind of reluctant to use them until things get really bad. I do get out, but it's mostly to care for a mentally ill sibling. Ah well, my Mom always said that God suits the back to the burden, I just wish that He didn't think I was so strong!

Christ offers (ALL) people a choice, a FREE choice NEVER before offered by a religion. The Free Market of Ideas (Free Speech) is exactly opposite of Scientism, Atheism, and Secularism, as it ask QUESTIONS that are not allowed. The ruling in which "yelling fire" was mentioned is Schenck v. United States. They said it is not "protected speech" however this was later overruled. The belief now is that you can yell it and the gov can not stop you from yelling it, but you can be held accountable for injuries after the fact.
