But not before an amendment was proposed by lawmaker Janine Boyd to exempt African American women from the new regulations. So, is Ms. Boyd some sort of retrograde racist/KKK type who managed to sneak onto the Ohio legislature and is now fighting to implement a covert white supremacist agenda? You might well think so, but as a matter of fact, Ms. Boyd is a progressive Democrat and an African American. So why would a black woman want fewer black babies just like the evil white supremacists presumably do? Why are their interests so closely aligned? I think it's because at its core, progressivism is a philosophy of death. Despite all of its high-minded rhetoric about human rights, equality, fairness, grrl power, and liberation from oppression (all of which, by the way, it pretty much stole from the Christian church), progressivism is really nothing more than a demonic suicidal death cult. That's all it ever is, and ever can be. And when there's nothing else left to murder, it will turn on itself. All progressives ever actually produce is death: dead cultures, dead countries, dead economies, dead higher education, dead races, dead children, dead babies, and a dead future. Answered prayer: Fenelon’s retired clergyman’s friend’s daughter, Karen, had a mammogram. Cyst was something easily taken care of and she has no sign of cancer. Thanks for prayers. JQ’s father was able to placed in a nursing home about a month ago (I just received the update) where JQ reports he is thriving- unlike before.
Updates: 4/4- Emmie’s mother has gone to be with the Lord. Emmie thanks the horde members for their prayers-they felt uplifted by them-and Emmie was grateful to God that they were able to care for her mother at home and that siblings and spouses were able to be with her when she passed. Prayers for comfort and strength for the and friends of Emmie’s mom. 4/14-OldDoginMO’s wife is back in the hospital after her Whipple procedure. There was some sort of problem. Please continue to pray for her for healing and for strength for she and OldDog and their family too. 4/14-OldRadarTech had extensive surgery including a “mushroom” to replace end of lower arm and also got thirteen screws and a plate to keep things in place. He appreciates the prayers and ask for prayers for healing for as much use of his arm and hand as possible. 4/22-ibguy reports that his friend’s wife, Debbie K, passed away on April 22nd of 4th stage lung cancer. Prayers for comfort and support for family and friends at this very difficult time 4/25 Fenelon’s son is hitting a bump in the road after some progress with his mental health issues. Prayers for healing for the ability to get the correct types of meds would be much appreciated. Thanks 4/25-Calm Mentor is still facing homelessness this Thursday. Nora Elizabeth is a baby has brain tumors and will need a year of chemo at the least. -USNtakim is having a lot of mobility issues and his wife is in pain every day. Need rough places made smooth so that they can live together. 3/12-TonyPete’s wife is having rheumatology and neurology issues. Niece’s son, Josh, needs healing. Very troubled boy with numerous behavioral issues. Pray also that authorities do what is right for the family. 3/13-Bicentennial Guy, mom and dad’s pug dog is very ill, has returning cancer. Has to be put down next week. Prayers for comfort and strength for his mom and dad and blaster who gave them the pug. 3/13-Josephistan, prayers for mom’s recovery and peace of mind and for strength for Josephistan so he can take care of her. 3/15-Bete in reflection had pain in neck after shoveling snow. Has cancer and one treatment but has some hope. Prayers for complete healing. 3/19- Red’s young friend has GI issues. Was having a consultation with doctor on 3/20, probably getting a scope. Needs healing. 3/20-Hrothgar, aging sister-in-law, Elizabeth, failing physically and mentally. He doesn’t have resources to help her. Going day by day. Needs prayer for wisdom and direction for help for sister-in-law. 3/20 Backwards Boy is having financial issues because of gigs being cancelled. Prayers are much appreciated for that situation. 3/23-Soc_rat_eeze still recovering after colonoscopy. Asked for prayers for clearance of pulmonary embolism, early and successful reversal of colonoscopy, general recovery of strength and fitness. Also, asked for prayers for Mrs. Eeze who is carrying the load while he recovers. Soc_rat_eeze is grateful for all the prayers which he felt were uplifting him. 3/26-Blaster asks for prayers for his 17 year old son and 13 year old daughter who are depressed, anxious, and not doing well in school Blaster’s son won’t talk to him. For healing and help for Blaster and children. UPDATE-Blaster’s son has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for suicidal ideation and self harm but Blaster has been able to speak with him, Prayers for complete healing for his son. 3/31-Sock Monkey’s dad went to be with the Lord on March 22 after suffering from advanced Alzheimer's. Sock Monkey wanted to thank the horde for their prayers. Please keep Sock Monkey’s family and friends in prayer for comfort after their loss. 4/2-Lurker Terri asked for prayer for her cousin’s adult son, DE, who has a condition called crypto for the last 6 months and has not responded to treatment. Can’t eat regular food and has been in the hospital. Prayers for healing for DE and peace for understandably distraught mom. 4/3-Prayers asked for Jane D’oh’s dear friend, SU. SU is dying after fighting years of various forms of cancer. Requested in-home hospice care and quit medications. Wants to die peacefully and as painlessly as possible. Prayers for peaceful passing and comfort for family, friends, church, and community. 4/7-Aviator is in hospital with blood pressure and other issues. Please pray for complete healing 4/8-Poster “Rarity” asked for prayers for her friend’s young adult daughter who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Surgery to remove it was unsuccessful and now additional tumor was found in lung, Prayers for healing and that family and friends be able to fight this. 4/10-Kitsabass’ stepdaughter had emergency appendectomy. Within a week Mrs. Kitsabass had to go to the emergency room for kidney stones. Needed surgery for parathyroid issues and has used up annual and sick leave. Prayers for healing and rough places made smooth. 4/10-Elisabeth G’s ulcerative colitis has worsened after food poisoning last fall, which has exacerbated other chronic health conditions. Also landlady has accepted offer on house Elisabeth is living in. Needs housing financing for something she can afford because she is only able to work part time teaching and writing and editing because of health conditions. Is under a lot of stress. Prayers for healing and that rough places be made smooth 4/17 -Anon y mouse’s wife, Mrs. Mouse, had high blood pressure related to cyst on kidney and pressure on kidney and adrenal gland. Also had arrhythmia. I believe she had been scheduled for surgery which has taken place so prayers for healing much appreciated 4/18-Prayers for TonyPete’s friend, Kate, who lost her husband at a young age (27) to cancer and just recently lost her two little girls in a tragic accident. 4/22-Average Guy’s 19 year old son admitted himself to psychiatric care after a suicide attempt. He has been dealing with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts for several years. Prayers for healing.

Damn, right there is how you use a 4x5 bellows camera. I took a freaking semester with those things, and my business had one (handled by people that knew their shit).
But, to look at the image on a glass with a loupe, upside down, and adjust the perspective and depth of field is a PIA. Note how his face is in perfect focus, but move a little further back? Not to mention awesome lighting from the stone age. Photographer had skillz.

Prayers up for all on The Prayer List. Life is rough even at its best.
I'd also like to add the guy who was in front of me at the pharmacy last week who was telling the sweet little tech behind the counter about his 6-year-old daughter's struggles with seizures that the doctors seem to be unable to get a handle on as of now. Never seen him before, but the pain in his voice was moving. He didn't break down or anything (or even get close), but you could tell he was hurting for his little girl. I said I'd pray for her and him and maybe the Horde will too.

Depth of field is a function of aperture. Wider means less depth of field, smaller means more.
I still have and have used my father's Crown Graphic (it has a lens shutter, the Speed Graphic had a focal plane shutter).

If DI has a flaw, for me it's Stanwyck's casting. Don't get me wrong; she's absolutely convincing in the role of co-murderer. But I just can't see why MacMurray's Walter Neff would be so enamored of her. She seems . . . hard. Of course he might like that type. But there isn't the heated chemistry between them that you'd expect.

Yes, I still shoot for a living with teh modern stuff, a decent 1.4 will set you back a few quatloos.
The thing about the bellows is tilting it to adjust perspective. This shot, you can see the plane of focus at an angle, so his right shoulder is in focus, slightly in front of his face. It's literally like a sheet of 1" thick glass. I was ok at shooting things far away and adjusting (architecture) but up-close, you can totally make the subject look like their face is stretched out. Stunning work.
I have a few vintage (roll) cameras, but nothing this large. It's weird though, I can still close my eyes and see the steps of pulling the 4x5 out of the frame in a darkroom, and loading it back up. Some things you never forget.

I think Barbara Stanwyck was too. I think she had kind of a hard scrabble early life and believed in working hard and taking care of yourself. I never could envision Fred MacMurray as a bad guy. One more thing, evidence is fairly conclusive, famine and third world shithole status do NOT encourage cutting back on human population growth, but have the opposite effect.
Prosperity and freedom are indeed, negatively correlated with population growth, so I guess if you import all the third worlders to the West, and could KEEP Western prosperity intact (which you almost certainly can't), then logic would indicate there will be fewer of them procreating, over time.

Reading the prayer list makes me realize how good I've got it. I've got a pacemaker with a twelve year lifespan and I am tolerating dialysis much better these days, except for the inconvenience of sitting still for three and a half hours. The XO picked up a three month supply of pills for me yesterday that without Medicare Part D would have cost us about $1500. We only paid $75. And when I was eligible for Medicare, I also bought the biggest baddest Medicare Supplement I could find, which means my medical bills have been non-existent despite all the crap I've been through these past four years. I am so fortunate to have reached the age for Medicare, that I have the resources to pay for the supplement, and that I have a healthy husband who is willing to do so much while I am still recuperating.
So many of the Horde have much worse problems with much fewer resources. I am not the least bit religious, so all I can do is send you my best wishes and hope that your problems will be resolved with the least amount of hassle and cost.

My grandma had given me a couple of hers long ago, but sadly they've vanished over the decades...
Just to enlighten the whippersnappers here: back in the 50's, before the Great Coarsening began, a lady did NOT go out without a hat and gloves. Even little girls being dragged along with mom on errands had to wear a dress, or at least a presentable skirt-and-blouse, AND those little white cotton gloves. Back then, men wore hats when out on the street, too. Essentially, everybody was expected to wear the "uniform" of their station-in-life when out in public.
We've gotten much more informal and egalitarian in dress since then. It's nice that we can dress for comfort now, but sometimes I miss the elegance and formality of dress AND PERSONAL COMPORTMENT of the old days.
