I'm starting to get a wafting of smells that indicate the Notre Dame renovation is getting rotten. They are now talking about a competition to rebuild the spire (or not rebuild it at all) to the techniques and "goals" of our era. I'm betting that means to make it less Catholic or Christian.

This is a nice piece. I like how the style matches the mood. The story is about jealousy, hate, murder and damnation. The style is violent and heavy, with thick uses of black and blue, with hints of purple and green. These are icy, cold colors. There is no warmth here. White, which is usually a color of purity is marred and muddied. It's ugly. I like it.

---------- See IM Pei at the Louvre. Will it have a crystal pyramid on top and an all seeing eye? Actually using modern materials I'd be okay with a Transparent/Translucent spire, if the inside of the spire was illuminated and you could see, for example, a holographic 3d image of Christ on the cross at night. And during the day, the sunlight would make the spire sparkle like a jewel. Yes it would be like putting a cowboy hat on a nun. Of course they'll do something ridiculous. Original sin and all, pride. The Morning Report touched on this, but it really is something how MSM's enforces its rule of "conspiracy theories for me, but not for thee" upon the right.
Sure, there's no evidence Notre Dame fire was terrorism, but what evidence is there that Trump colluded with Putin in 2016 (or ever)? What evidence that "A Climate of Right Wing Hate in Dallas circa 1963" convinced a commie to kill JFK? What evidence GWB KNEW there was no WMD in Iraq (rather than just played up some ambiguous evidence into a primary talking point)? But all that sort of stuff no only gets aired out in the MSM regularly, it's more or less accepted MSM consensus opinion. And let's not even get started on the nutty stuff minority interest groups regularly spout without much if any MSM pushback/shaming. We can't contemplate the Notre Dame fire as terrorism (too nutty, could never happen), but Farrakhan thinking white people are the product on an ancient evil scientist ... well, let's hear him out. I'm not crazy about the style in general. But there is no question that Corinth captured the violence and downfall of Cain, and mankind, in the heavy paint strokes and discordent, harsh colors against the few patches of beautiful blue sky (God's grace?). Any "modern" upgrades to Notre Dame, particularly under the guise of "inclusiveness", will be trite and banal, chiefly from the "too many cooks spoil the broth" phenomenon.
________________ The very idea of rebuilding the cathedral to make it more "inclusive" or "multicultural" is ludicrous. Muslims believe that Christianity is a pack of lies. So we're supposed to invite muslims in to Christian places of worship or let them have a say in the design? How insane is that? It's blasphemous to Christianity. Furthermore, the koran instructs muslims that they should not be friends with Christians or Jews, so why would muslims want to worship in a Christian cathedral, or help design it, in the first place, other than for some subversive purpose? Then there is the matter of the strictly-enforced exclusivity of muslim mosques. Christians and Jews are not allowed in them. In fact, non-muslims are not allowed to even enter the city of Mecca, and they are also not allowed in the town square in Medina. So what's ours is theirs, and what's theirs is theirs (and ONLY theirs) too. Yeah, that's so "inclusive" and "tolerant" and "multicultural." 233 You gotta love the morning report. Where else can you read stuff like this.
"US military not happy about Chi-Com intervention in Venezuela, Chi-Coms not happy about us criticizing their being there (fuck off, Hop Sing)"" lolol Indeed! The Russians and Chinese are both putting themselves into a classically bad situation - it's one thing to support a dictatorship that has a firm grip on things; but to send just a few soldiers to try and prop up a ruler in a country that's collapsing is a disastrous move, one that the US has made several times. I strongly suspect that the Russians are there for only one reason, and that's to guarantee the gold bullion shipments back to Moscow, in payment on the billions that Putin has loaned to Maduro. I wonder if Maduro has figured out yet how much trouble he's gonna be in when the gold runs out. He may have enough to buy support for a year - but no more, especially as his oil biz continues to collapse. Posted by: Tom Servo at April 17, 2019 10:59 AM (Kpl3J) 292

I'm starting to get a wafting of smells that indicate the Notre Dame renovation is getting rotten. They are now talking about a competition to rebuild the spire (or not rebuild it at all) to the techniques and "goals" of our era. I'm betting that means to make it less Catholic or Christian.
Posted by: Marcus T at April 17, 2019 09:41 AM (VpIIl) The spire was added in the 19th century, it is not original. The debate I heard this morning was whether or not to reconstruct something that was in debate 150 years ago as to whether it should be added. A friend of mine posted a video on their facebook page this morning of the interior taken yesterday by one of the firemen/inspectors. Amazing damage, but also amazing what wasn't lost. Regarding the 3D software, there was a report on FBN yesterday and an interview with an online gaming maker who said that the 3D software was made by one of the companies that produces the Game of Thrones? software. They spent two years mapping every single stone, brick and detail of the entire cathedral on this software , and he felt that would be invaluable for the reconstruction. That place was frigging amazing. To see it in person was just unreal. My favorite was the cardinal or bishop that M painted right over the door that shows him wrapped in a snake and the snake biting him right on the dick. The story was that this cardinal, who didn't like M in the first place, brought in another painter to paint loin cloths on some of the people in the painting, and of course they are out of place. M retaliated by painting the cardinal with the snake right over the door so everybody has to see it as they walk out. The cardinal freaks out when he sees it and complains to the pope who tells him something along the lines of "well you have obviously been condemned to hell and I have no power over hell, sooo...." Funny dude that M.

I would love to see the Sistine Chapel, but I hear it's always crowded and you only get a few minutes inside. Pity. For me, the Last Judgement is M.'s the superior of the two, but only slightly. The Cardinal is depicted as Minos, the gatekeeper of Hell. However many times his tail twists around his body is the circle of Hell to which the soul is condemned. Another fantastic depiction of damnation is Gisilbertus's "Last Judgement" at Autun Cathedral. Posted by: Kris at April 17, 2019 11:03 AM (OyyDO) 308

This is true. Also when you tour the Vatican museum you don't get to wander around, you follow a forced route. By the time you get to the Sistine Chapel (the last stop) you've walked a mile and been beaten into sensory overload. The Vatican, and most of Rome since rococo, believes that an inch of bare space on a wall is a sin, so everything is plastered head to toe with trinkets and tschatchkes and bling.
