Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant"So during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings that the national media helped the Democrats turn into a complete farce (Kavanaugh was asked not not one question about his judicial decisions or philosophy by any Democrat), an unpaid intern in Sheila Jackson Lee's office doxed some GOP senators, they busted him, and he'll soon be a doing two to five stretch in a federal PMITA prison. Which is great. The dirtbag is getting what he deserved. But here's the thing: ordinary, normal Americans get doxed and swatted by left-wing goons all the time, and not much ever seems to happen, even when the goons are known. Here, the perp made the mistake of going after powerful, influential public officials and the full weight of the law comes crashing down full force on his head. I just wish we had a government that would work to punish those who try to hurt me as hard as it does protecting the privacy rights of powerful officials."

Good grief, that Forbes screen shot. Let's list the obvious presuppositions just from the headline:
1) Climate change is caused by people, and is real. 2) The culpability for human-caused climate change can be calculated and assigned. 3) The calculation shows that it is men who cause it. Assuming #1 is right (spoiler alert: it isn't), the article is probably right. As Christina Hoff Summers put it, without men everyone would still be living in grass huts. Industry as we know it and have always known it - from manual forges to modern uranium plants - is largely a male affair. So it's probably true that it's the fault of men. But I don't see any soccer moms complaining about this while driving their minivans, crossovers and SUVs to the grocery store and soccer games at 20-25 MPG, turning on their lights, using their appliances and watching their televisions. Remember when Forbes used to be legitimate (or at least pretend to be)? It's an ever-fading memory. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 08, 2019 11:25 AM (I2dne) 46

I think that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is affected by human activity. I don't think there can really be any question about it. What percentage? Dunno.
But the real question is does the ppm of CO2 affect global temperature the way that the models say. That is questionable - the earth has been warmer before than it is today. The amount of CO2 was lower. The models are not really predictive, and they don''t match the data, so they kinda suck. The "scientific consensus" on AGW is that more CO2 = higher temperatures, period, end of sentence. So long as that equation holds, then that means that if the amount of CO2 is affected by human activity, then human activity is making the planet warmer. But that linkage is not as well established as the warmists want you to think. Venus is hot they say! It has CO2! Yes, 97% of the atmosphere is CO2. What is it here again? .04%? Okay. 95 I think that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is affected by human activity.
" I read an article in some supposed "scientific journal" recently that was shrieking, "The Last Time CO2 levels were this high, the sea level was 65 feet higher!!!" And they went on about how awful that was, and these supposedly "scientific" authors never once asked themselves the obvious question, "Well, it looks like CO2 levels really don't have much to do with sea level, doesn't it? That's what the actual evidence is telling you, isn't it?" Posted by: Tom Servo at April 08, 2019 11:38 AM (Kpl3J) 122

Melanie was little cutie trouble in Night Moves in 1975, that was her first real role at age 18. Don Johnson's first real role in Boy and His Dog was the same year, but he was 26 by then.
Hmm looking it up, its kinda sordid During the first half of 1972, he met Melanie Griffith, the 14-year-old daughter of his Harrad Experiment co-star Tippi Hedren. When Griffith was 15, she and Johnson began living together in a rented house in Laurel Canyon. They married when she reached age 18 but the marriage only lasted about a year. And if you go by pollution (however measured) per GDP (so a factory that employs a hundred people is better than a hundred people burning wood), I think we're the most efficient, if that's the right word. Pretty sure it's virulently racist in certain circumstances.
Maybe, but a lot of the times, a group's name for themselves translates to "us" or "the people" and their words for others translate to "them," and "others," but also "barbarians" and "heathens" and "infidels" and "savages" and so on. Meanwhile, they'll name a place before they care what the locals call it. Sometimes there's a lot of locals with different names because they all hate each other. And sometimes, they'll try to use the local's words but mangle them horribly. Posted by: Lance McCormick at April 08, 2019 12:04 PM (84QUd) 270

Watched Mary, Queen of Scots w/ Margot Robbie and the Ronan lady. Both were very impressive, and the basic outline of the story was historically accurate. But was Mary's husband Lord Darnley a switch-hitter, and Mary's confidant David Rizzio likewise?
The film has a scene where Rizzio wears a dress and dances with Queen Mary and her maids. Anything true about that, or did Hollywood insert the usual "we gotta be PC" into the movie? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at April 08, 2019 12:05 PM (elsTe) 275

Here it is:
While she claims Cosko was an unpaid intern in her office, the Washington Post reports that Cosko was actually a "fellow." What outside institution paid for Cosko's fellowship? Did that entity know about his illegal activities? What other fellowships does this outside organization pay for? What other House or Senate offices are hosting fellows paid by this organization? Intern and fellow are not interchangeable because they aren't even close to being the same thing. While internships are reserved for inexperienced college students, fellowships are usually serious policy positions and are typically filled by professionals working within other federal agencies or the private sector who are brought to a congressional office for a short stint to help a member of Congress better understand the agency or business for which that member has oversight responsibilities. This is why it's always been believed that a lot of the Heirs of the Nobility over the centuries have actually been the sons of the Stableboys and Footmen and Groundskeepers. She did try to stop Joffrey, but he was too pigheaded and had too much power. Why should she have been okay with her pre-teen daughter suddenly getting shipped off to live amongst people who could easily use the girl as a pawn (which they did)? She also knew that Margory was all about using Tommin for her power climb. That match, which she always hated but needed to give into on political grounds, did end up being toxic because he fell in with the Faith Militant and the High Sparrow as a direct result. She loved them genuinely, wanted what was best for them, but there were forces outside of her control that kept her from keeping them close and safe. Whether Legalism would've stayed that way is speculative, and the Han reverted the country into feudalism, as opposed to the more advanced system of administrative districts the Qin were attempting. Talking about canon wrt Star Trek is officially ridiculous since JJ Abrams actually wiped everything Trek from existence with his new canon timeline. Is there anything that man can't destroy utterly and completely?

I think Alec Baldwin sounds like a very unstable person and everybody knows he is. Of course, people who would never vote for Trump if their lives depended on it would vote for him, but other that I don't think he's a big draw.

Wolfus, that would have been a real smart move for STD. Instead of destroying the Klingons, bring in the Kzinti to scream and leap.

404 398 It's a fine business model. Hell, Marvel and Disney are re-creating it to a certain extent.
However, the range of quality does seem to narrow a bit. Yeah, there tends to be less junk (though there definitely still was shit the studios pushed out for various reasons), but there was less incentive to experiment. Apocalypse Now and 2001 could have never been made in the old studio system. No producer would have ceded that much control to a director. It really was the producer who was king in the studio system, and the producer had eyes on a much wider field than one movie, as opposed to a director who tends to think one movie at a time. Trade offs. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Read Some Movie Thoughts at April 08, 2019 12:27 PM (oh/Sd) ======== I'm curious of your opinion of Cecil B. DeMille and how he fits int this equation. Posted by: Jackal at April 08, 2019 12:30 PM (LztIA) ========= He preceded the studio system, so when it came about, he was already king. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Read Some Movie Thoughts at April 08, 2019 12:31 PM (oh/Sd) ====== Really? I didn't know he had that long of a career. When was his last movie made? Cooper, I quit after the first book because I did not want to spend any more time getting emotionally abused while George RR Martin was getting his jollies off abusing and killing every character he could.

317 Lombary Italy is actually named for the attacking Lombards who were a German tribe. It also translates to Longabardi.

The only real Lombard Street is in San Francisco, and that's the six lane boulevard part of US 101, not the further down one lane squiggly that goes downhill for one block. Looking at other pictures of Cleo De Merode, that 1895 ballet dancer was rather busty for a ballerina.

No. Iceland was already Iceland before Greenland was settled. Erik the Red got kicked out of Iceland for murder (they didn't have jails so they just kicked you out of the country for a year). Erik found an uninhabited island and called it Greenland as a marketing ploy to get other settlers to follow him there. Posted by: Bandersnatch at April 08, 2019 12:51 PM (fuK7c) 436

Let's not forget Lombard St in San Francisco--the world's most crooked and a big tourist attraction, appropriately enough. Probably covered with needles these days. No one commented on the spider. I don't know why. I remember its 50th great-grandfather starring in "Alien" back in 1979 (remember that "molecular acid"?)
