Assuming #1 is right (spoiler alert: it isn't), the article is probably right. As Christina Hoff Summers put it, without men everyone would still be living in grass huts. Industry as we know it and have always known it - from manual forges to modern uranium plants - is largely a male affair. So it's probably true that it's the fault of men.
But I don't see any soccer moms complaining about this while driving their minivans, crossovers and SUVs to the grocery store and soccer games at 20-25 MPG, turning on their lights, using their appliances and watching their televisions.
Remember when Forbes used to be legitimate (or at least pretend to be)? It's an ever-fading memory.

My nephew has four girls, and they home school. Their mom doesn't want to miss a minute of her kids' lives as they grow up, and the nephew makes enough to support that. Being the mom at home with he kids can be so much richer a life than going off to some treadmill job. (which is necessary for many couples, these days)
Destroying the Home Mom was surely part of the Marxist enemy action, right out of Moscow at first, then from our own institutions (as the commies marched through). Still some time left to reverse course .. I hope.

Inflation and social agitation are to blame for that. Earning a full-family living became a lot harder in the 70s. But it is very easy to end up on the daycare/nanny treadmill. I know several couples where more than 85% of the wife's take-home pay goes to child care. I don't get that. Why bother at that point.

I read an article in some supposed "scientific journal" recently that was shrieking, "The Last Time CO2 levels were this high, the sea level was 65 feet higher!!!"
And they went on about how awful that was, and these supposedly "scientific" authors never once asked themselves the obvious question, "Well, it looks like CO2 levels really don't have much to do with sea level, doesn't it? That's what the actual evidence is telling you, isn't it?"

I think men and women both saw the same thing in him - Bert Reynolds always came off as Fun, the kind of guy who would be a blast to hang out with, the kind of guy you'd love to go drinking with, the kind of guy who would always smart off and make you laugh, and do crazy stuff and make you laugh, and get in a lot of trouble but still make you laugh while he was doing it. That's the kind of guy that just about everyone wants to be around.

This is not to endorse working moms over house moms. But it is true that there are big advantages to the former, even if they aren't clear at the time.

I never understood that naming. We call them "Arabic" numerals because that's where we got them, but *they* got them from India. The subcontinent developed the basic idea of place-value numerals and most of their shapes (some changed when the Arabs imported it).
Yet the "Arabs and Muslims are at the root of all good things" history rewriters never acknowledge that the now-universal place-value numeral system is is Indian in origin, and Hindu at that.

i'm given to understand that some early techniques were amazing. one in particular, based on potato starch is essentially grainless; in a photo of the white house you can look in the windows with a microscope.
back in the day, you could find information about that by heading to alta vista and searching for "potatography". alas, the term has now come to mean something else entirely.
remember, the photography we know about it just the stuff someone figured out how to mass produce.

The first Czar or Caesar was trying to imagine themselves being the "3rd Rome." The Holy Roman Emperors did the same. Cyrillic and the Orthodox Church using the vernacular kept the Russians from learning and exchanging ideas with the rest of Europe who all used latin/greek for the exchange of ideas. It ended up damaging their progress and/or attachment to western renaissance and enlightenment ideals. Saint Cyril and Methodius actually did them no favors in creating a new alphabet for the Slavs in the long run. That and Huns.

Maybe, but a lot of the times, a group's name for themselves translates to "us" or "the people" and their words for others translate to "them," and "others," but also "barbarians" and "heathens" and "infidels" and "savages" and so on.
Meanwhile, they'll name a place before they care what the locals call it. Sometimes there's a lot of locals with different names because they all hate each other.
And sometimes, they'll try to use the local's words but mangle them horribly.

We use the same name as the locals about half the time(as names don't need to have inherentmeaning in English this convention makes sense). The other cases are when the name has come to us indirectly. In these cases the name may have meaning in another language, but not in English or in the language of natives of the country.

What outside institution paid for Cosko's fellowship? Did that entity know about his illegal activities? What other fellowships does this outside organization pay for? What other House or Senate offices are hosting fellows paid by this organization?
Intern and fellow are not interchangeable because they aren't even close to being the same thing. While internships are reserved for inexperienced college students, fellowships are usually serious policy positions and are typically filled by professionals working within other federal agencies or the private sector who are brought to a congressional office for a short stint to help a member of Congress better understand the agency or business for which that member has oversight responsibilities.
Have any recent articles on Cosko shed any light on who paid him?

For consistency, the word "if" should be capitalized. Otherwise, proper form would be to non-cap minor words "if," "is," "the," & "for" (unless at the beginning of the title, of course). Lost art of title formats.

It is interesting that the local name for the Chinese people is not derived from the Chin (i.e. the warlord who bloodily conqured the rest of the feudal states) but from the Han, who started the process of welding China into a nation, and who jettisoned Legalism (the autocratic and bloody as hell state ideology of Chin) for Confucianism (it has its problems but its a damn sight more humane).

I think you're taking a too narrow view of love. She loved them and wanted what she saw was best for them.
She did try to stop Joffrey, but he was too pigheaded and had too much power.
Why should she have been okay with her pre-teen daughter suddenly getting shipped off to live amongst people who could easily use the girl as a pawn (which they did)?
She also knew that Margory was all about using Tommin for her power climb. That match, which she always hated but needed to give into on political grounds, did end up being toxic because he fell in with the Faith Militant and the High Sparrow as a direct result.
She loved them genuinely, wanted what was best for them, but there were forces outside of her control that kept her from keeping them close and safe.

It's a fine business model. Hell, Marvel and Disney are re-creating it to a certain extent.
However, the range of quality does seem to narrow a bit. Yeah, there tends to be less junk (though there definitely still was shit the studios pushed out for various reasons), but there was less incentive to experiment.
Apocalypse Now and 2001 could have never been made in the old studio system. No producer would have ceded that much control to a director.
It really was the producer who was king in the studio system, and the producer had eyes on a much wider field than one movie, as opposed to a director who tends to think one movie at a time.

I'd disagree. Cersei does indeed love her children. This is very evident, especially if you read the books.
Martin writes very realistically complex characters, and Cersei is one of the best examples of this. She is selfish, cruel and stubborn. And alot of other things as well. But she loves her children as much as any other mother.

Supposedly the Vikings who named Greenland and Iceland subscribed to that theory, Iceland being much more pleasant and they wanted to keep it for themselves.

No. Iceland was already Iceland before Greenland was settled. Erik the Red got kicked out of Iceland for murder (they didn't have jails so they just kicked you out of the country for a year).
Erik found an uninhabited island and called it Greenland as a marketing ploy to get other settlers to follow him there.
