17 A Saga:

Fu Manchu sits in his office at the Lucky Dragon II Dine-In & Carry-Out and types into his computer.
"Welcome to Go-To Meeting. You are the host, there are six participants."
"Alright," Fu says. "Chief-Inspector Mueller and Francois came up empty handed. We need a new plan to remove the Golden Scalp Weasel. I may regret this, but I shall open the floor for suggestions."
"What our group needs," Hillary states, "is a name."
"Yes," Cobra Commander hisses. "A name. How about COBRA?"
"Quit pushing your agenda, you doofus," Adam Schiff states. "We need something that will get respect, like the Select Subcommittee on Interrogating and Skinning WEASELS!" he finishes screaming, froth flying from his lips.
"Calm yourself - here, chew on some aluminum foil," Jerrold Nadler says, passing over his personal roll of Reynolds Wrap. "I never leave the House without it. Now, how about the Brigade of Baddies?"
"AHOY! that's great, and we need a logo. I suggest a pirate ship, with cannons and pirates, and cutlasses, and parrots with eyepatches and pirates!" Cap'n Bill suggests.
A red-faced Fu Manchu finally breaks in and yells "Enough! This is a serious meeting, we have no time for imbecilic cartoon villainy!"
"Man, that's harsh," Cobra Commander says.
"Dude, chill," Obama says. "All's cool, man. No need to be such a buzzkill," before giggling.
"Are you high?"
"Me and the House Freshmen, we're just sampling some of Colorado's finest choom, no need to harsh our mellow." He then inhales on a massive joint. "Dude, what do you think the color blue sounds like?"
Fu mutes Obama and says "I want to get this meeting back on track..."
Cap'n Bill mutters "Stop pushing, hey..." before being shoved off screen by John Brennan. "As a former intelligence agent I can say that getting to the Golden Scalp Weasel is difficult due to the layers of protection. We need something to draw the beast out into the open, into a designated kill-zone where we can hit it hard. A fellow commie like you must agree with this."
"How many times I tell you? I Am Not A Commie! I am a Mandarin and I shall restore the Imperial Dynasty! But you are correct Crazy-Eyes, the Golden Scalp Weasel must be drawn out. How?"
"He's triumphant," Hillary says, her face alternately turning pale purple and red purple. "He claims vindication after Mueller couldn't find the evidence that I manufactured - I mean, pointed out was available. He won't resist a victory lap. He'll do rallies, and somewhere in this route he can be tripped up."
"Yes, this is acceptable planning. You should try it more often Hillary."
"I had a plan but they all betrayed me! All of them! When I am Empress of North America I shall make them pay! They'll pay, all of them!" As she rants, Fu mutes her feed.
"I have the seed of a plan," Fu states. "I will require the forces of COBRA and the persistent insane malignancy of Schiff and Nadler."
"What about me?" Cap'n Bill asks.
"I have tasking for you," Fu says, adding "imbecile." under his breath.
"That's great! AHOY! The Brigade of Baddies is a go!"
The rest cheer drowning out Fu Manchu's protests that they are not the Brigade of Baddies until he finally cancels the meeting.
"Please my ancestors, let us not fail at this so I no longer have to tolerate these mental midgets."

63 Hylas and the Nymphs is an 1896 oil painting by John William Waterhouse. The painting depicts a moment from the Greek and Roman legend of the tragic youth Hylas, based on accounts by Ovid and other ancient writers, in which the enraptured Hylas is abducted by Naiads (female water nymphs) while seeking drinking water. The painting has been interpreted as a metaphor for dangerous female sexuality, and warning against nymphomania.

Ah, the moment when there will be another split between those who, disappointed in the Mueller Report accept reality, and those for whom evidence of collusion is just around the corner.

Now, if one were somewhat unscrupulous, one could make a good living putting together a group to continue the investigation while trolling lefty sites for funding to support the activities. Of course no one of the Horde would ever stoop to fleecing the remaining gulls of their money because the Horde is known far and wide for their scruples.

Two things.

1. Men, with some effort, can age gracefully, and hit their prime later than women. For women they need to be born with exceptional genes. A man at 40 can be very marriageable, not so much for a woman.(a woman can get married at this age, just not to the sort of quality she could in her 20s)

2. Men across a wide range of ages are most attracted to a woman in their early 20s. Women's age preferences change as they age.

I was finally able to turn and pull up to the pharmacy, and he drove past me like a man man, sporting a FL license plate. Guess he was in a huge hurry to get to the golf championship taking place on one of the courses out here.

Indeed, since most of the women I know are either married or out of my age range (one way or the other), it's kinda nice being able to interact with interesting human beings and not have all that sex stuff in the way.

That's an interestingly hostile response. Same for the comment about replacing women as they age out of the 20 to 30 range.

Though that leaves open an excellent segue for husband goggles.

Men perceive women in part as they first met them, particularly if they're married and pair bonded. This helps explain some of the discrepancy between the stated preference(early 20s), and much lower proclivity for divorce from men. Men generally do not attempt to trade up(women being the primary initiator of divorce, and no, with our divorce rate its not from violence or abuse).

Obviously if you married late, your husband cannot perceive you as you were in your 20s(having never seen you then) and the standard of comparison is consequently harsher.

They are after their "best deal" too, as they realistically expect a 40yo guy (with money, or without) to replace them with a fresher body. If men can get what they can, women should too. And at what age, Nurse Ratched can men be relied on? I don't think it comes down to age, it comes down to character, upbringing and morality. Some people have it at 20, some people never have it.

Posted by: CN at March 27, 2019 10:38 AM (U7k5w)

Looks was still up there in importance but it wasn't by any means the ONLY thing.

And Trump is saying "The HELL we will just take the loss and live with it!!!"

And this kind of thing had a lot of press attention, and the police put in a lot of actual work (you know, not just bloviating on the internet like I'm doing). 339 To continue for those interested in the whole bump stock ban and the NFA,

Miller was a case of first impression by the Court dealing with the constitutionality of the NFA. It is a poorly reasoned and written decision authored by one of the Supreme Court's least distinguished members (McReynolds). It reverses by direct appeal a district court ruling quashing an NFA indictment for Miller illegally possessing a sawed off shotgun as violating the 2nd Amendment. It followed the dubious precedent of Cruikshank which had an even worse set of fact that argued the 2nd Amendment did not indicate an individual right to own firearms but rather was a collective right.

In cases of first impression, the first issue is whether the NFA is constitutional facially--that means whether any part of it is obviously unconstitutional. The court answered no in that case. Then as usual, the court then explains the reasoning behind its opinion. In this case, McReynolds took the lazy way out and simply intimated that the right was tied to state militia service and therefore any weapon that was not in common use by the militia, such as a sawed off shotgun (barrel less than 18 inches) could legitimately be taxed and regulated by the national government. Now, where people get the idea that Miller is not settled law is via Heller where the collective right idea was put down by Scalia's majority opinion. However, Scalia himself notes favorably on Miller's std. of whether the firearm is in common use with the military for guidance as to when the government may regulate firearms.

However, whether you use keycite or shepard's guide to find lower court decisions that cite Miller (favorably or unfavorably), you will find no court decision questioning the constitutionality of the NFA. What you do find in the few questioning Miller is regarding the collective right idea or that the facts in the case are similar to that of Miller, not the core ruling of constitutionality. Overwhelmingly, courts still cite Miller favorably while most simply cite is as precedent in 2nd Amendment cases. Only two seriously question Miller as a precedent, one dealt with a challenge to a ban on mentally ill and felons owning firearms which the District court emphatically rejected while questioning a 7th Circuit decision's more lenient interpretation of Miller, the second was a district court in Colorado that was overturned by the 10th Circuit. In contrast out of the 350 or so citations, 50 were positive including very recent cases.

Summation, depending on the Court to overturn the NFA's registration requirements for fully automatic weapons is similar to leftists waiting for Mueller to save them from Trump. It is not going to happen folks. If you want the NFA gone or altered, it is best to go to the political branches. Elimination of the Hughes amendment or the NFA ban on suppressors would be a start.

If the bumpstock ban is challenged in court, it would be best to focus on the takings clause (taking property without compensation) and/or whether the Courts should defer to the ATF under the Chevron doctrine on their interpretation of the law. It is also possible that the APA might be involved if the ATF cut corners or if the decision appears arbitrary and capricious.

I know that several justices have questioned the value of Chevron deference in past decisions to administrative agencies interpreting their statutory authority to regulate on technical matters.

This observation that a constitutional challenge to the NFA is not going anywhere via obviously does not please the no infringement folks but it is what it is. Whether it should be held constitutional, I would hold that a permanent ban on increasing the NFA registry should be unconstitutional as it infringes on exercising a right and produces unjust enrichment by those holding such weapons. However, if you argue no infringement means no regulation, then there would be no regulation on anyone owning firearms or carrying them, I would disagree as a matter of constitutional history and practice. I personally have no problem with the current setup of requiring license and registration for machine guns, cannons, etc. I do have a problem with it restricting arms used for self defense, hunting, and those serving in a militia. The rub of course is that most states no longer have a militia as such but rather the National Guard which only serves part of this function.

Not that it will change anything of course, but it's at least nice seeing it happen. Plus, it does provide a valuable talking point for squishy conservatives, i.e. 'well, we're not the only ones who are criticizing the media as corrupt. Look at what Greenwald and Taibbi are saying'.

370 Indeed, since most of the women I know are either married or out of my age range (one way or the other), it's kinda nice being able to interact with interesting human beings and not have all that sex stuff in the way.

This is an interesting comment, but one I have trouble relating to. It's not often that I meet a woman who I like talking to where that doesn't translate into sexual attraction (within a pretty wide age range). Doesn't mean I'll act on it. But "all that sex stuff" is always "in the way" after a fashion. I like things like the Pence rule, but maybe not for the reasons others do; I'm not sure I fully trust myself to always be honorable.

Check your state constitution and/or laws for "unorganized militia". Here in Georgia, the OCGA designates all able-bodied males between 18-45 not already in the military as being in the unorganized militia.

That being said, the rest of the Bush klan has not acquitted themselves very well during the Trump presidency. But I suspect much of that is just due to how Trump treated Jeb. Which is certainly telling in its own right.

I am always circumspect in one-on-one conversations, which are very unusual, actually, except in public places.

As a rule, I particularly enjoy conversations with women, because they are different than conversations with men. 'Equal' and 'the same' are different. Conversations with women are not the same as conversations with men.

I absolutely avoid any private contact with any non-family women.

Some say I ate them all in a 10 minute binge and ended up weeping in the fetal position in Jeff Zucker's office. I reject this false choice. The answer is both.

The 2nd Amendment notes a well regulated militia. There's one in every neighborhood, in every city, and in every state.

Given a threat, I could round up a cadre of ex-military personnel in a couple of hours to form a regulated militia of the rest of the volunteers.

Then, get this, she says "Have you considered getting counseling?"

I found this hugely amusing. Such is the image that the media have conveyed of Vets. We're all teetering on the brink going berserk, running amok.

I laughed, and asked her if she thought that I needed it. She mumbled something. I then explained that I was on the *other* side of the equation, in that I do work with Vets who are trouble. She perked up a little, but was obviously a little confused about that.
