The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

"White Nationalism" is what Orwell warned us about. Do not let the Left take control of the language and the terms, because that is their first step in the totalitarian dance, and they know the moves and music very well.

If there is any one phrase to describe it, perhaps "American Nationalism" is appropriate, because the melting pot concept is one that is tried and true and helped to create the greatest economic engine in history, and one that worked quite well for a very long time.

There are plenty of 6th generation Americans who can trace their lineage to Mexico, and there are plenty of 2nd and 3rd generation Americans who can trace their lineage to pretty much anywhere in the world...and that's great! But the operative word is "American." Assimilate, embrace our political institutions and Exceptionalism, and presto...instant American.

And that is "American Nationalism." It is not color...it is love of country. But I guess that's too simple a definition for some.

temperature and humidity have a strong influence on labor productivity. For example, in machine shops, labor productivity is at its peak at 65 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity between 65 and 75 percent. Productivity is 15 percent lower at 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 28 percent lower at 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Moreover, accident rates are 30 percent higher at 77 degrees Fahrenheit than at 67 degrees Fahrenheit.

Peanut Tillman Is Building A Row Boat With His Bare Hands and Sailing It Across Lake Michigan For Pediatric Charities
Tillman won't be making the trek by himself. He's teaming up with a tech executive named Jacob Beckley, who has rowed across Lake Michigan before but vowed to never do it again. Tillman had to convince Beckley to go through the whole ordeal a second time.

As for building the boat, well, that was done to cut down on costs. In order to buy a boat appropriate for rowing across Lake Michigan, the two would have had to pay $80,000.

A Tara Ross TweetStorm that is very much worth reading.
I’m not big on Tweetstorms, but I suppose if I am ever going to do one, now is the time. #ElectoralCollege. Been studying it since 2001. Yesterday, E. Warren came out against the E.C., as you’ve prob. heard /1

She said: “My view is that every vote matters and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the electoral college -- and every vote counts.” The audience broke out in applause. /2

Well, no wonder. Most have spent a lifetime hearing that the #ElectoralCollege is evil (slavery) & outdated (we have airplanes/Internet now!). None of it's true, but people have heard it so often that they simply don't know. Here is the truth: /3

The Founders created the #ElectoralCollege because they knew several things we have forgotten: (1) Simple democracies are dangerous. Bare or emotional majorities can tyrannize even large minority groups. Two wolves & a sheep voting on what’s for dinner is not a good system. /4

(2) They understood: Humans fallible. Power corrupts. Ambition, selfishness, greed are dangers. Some claim Founders were elitists who didn’t trust the people. NO. They didn’t trust ANYONE. Not the people, not elected officials, not states or feds. Checks & balances on EVERYONE /5

Carol Berkin states this wonderfully, noting that delegates to Const’l Convention were the most likely men to be elected to 1st Senate or as 1st President….. Yet they still sat and debated how to put checks and balances on those offices bc THEY DIDN’T TRUST THEMSELVES either. /6

#ElectoralCollege serves us well: It has several benefits that go unrecognized: 1st: It makes it harder to steal elections. Can’t steal election unless you steal votes in right state @ right time AND national election fairly close. /7

With a National Popular Vote system, obviously, any vote stolen anywhere affects national outcome. This is true even if the vote is easily stolen in a very safe blue or red state. This is a dangerous situation that the #ElectoralCollege protects us from today. /8

2nd, the #ElectoralCollege rewards coalition-building. Perhaps that sounds weird, after 2016? But NO ONE focused on coalition building that yr, not really. The result? A close election: One party lost. The other mostly avoided losing. But, yes, there was a coalition. & it won. /9

Coalition that won in 2016 = group of voters who are tired of being ruled by DC elites. They don’t feel heard. They see DC insiders living by one set of rules while we live by another. They are tired of being told what to think. Tired of being called names simply bc disagree /10

Some of this coalition voted for Trump enthusiastically. Some held noses & voted. But the coalition all agreed he was most likely to upset status quo in D.C. So they voted for him. Right now, Dems are very focused on eliminating #ElectoralCollege that caused them to lose /11

Better off focusing on why they lost in first place. How can Dems reach out to those who have been feeling ignored? How can they find middle ground? How can they focus on things that bring us together instead of things that drive us apart? How can they regain voters’ trust? /12

How can they run campaign more like FDR? If Dems find that nominee, they will win in a landslide. Similarly, Rs don’t have to be stuck in world where barely win. They, too, should find middle ground. How can they build coalitions? Earn trust? Reward = Reagan-like landslide /13

I wish that everyone would quit going off into their partisan corners. Quit pointing fingers at the other side. Quit blaming #ElectoralCollege for your party’s own failures. What did your own party do wrong or right in 2016? /14

1st party to take hard look inward & fix its own flaws will start winning again. In landslides. We’ve been here before. Aftr Civil War, country was sharply divided bw North & South. Because of #ElectoralCollege, both political parties were forced to move past that division /15

Pretty much whether they wanted to or not! Dems in South simply couldn’t win w/o reaching a hand across the aisle. Rs could win in reliance on their safe areas, but just barely. Both sides had incentives to look at own mistakes, figure out how to build better coalitions. /16

By the 1930s, of course, Dems were winning in repeated landslides. The lesson? Remember that we live in a big, diverse country! Don’t force people into one-size-fits-all thinking. THAT is the lesson the #ElectoralCollege has taught over and over again, throughout our history. /17

Getting rid of the system now, when we are so angry and divided…. Well, it’s the worst possible solution. We’ll be stuck in this angry place forever. We are better off trying to remember why we have the #ElectoralCollege in first place. End of tweetstorm. /18

But mostly, the electoral college was put in because the Founders were building a FEDERAL government, not a national one - a federation of sovereign STATES.

America doesn't do national referenda ... or national anything - which is a good part of why Barky's idiotic and un-American "national petition to the King President" idea was so un-American ... even apart from the fact that it made pretend that the Executive branch does anything it wants to do.

America is a federation of individual states. We have no "national" government. That is how this nation was built.

++++++++++
They know it. When I was in high school, the "social studies" ("civics" is for worn-out old folks) teachers were pushing a new line I never heard before and have rarely heard since because it was stupid and lacked brand power.

They were talking about the "melting pot" concept that the old (read: regressive) leadership pursued with assimilation, etc. with a focus on the industrial assimilation efforts from the likes of Henry Ford. Then they talked about the progressive, better, new way we do it now called the "salad bowl" where groups live together in the country but remain distinct and keep most or all of their cultural proclivities.

There is another word for this, of course: Balkanization. The trouble is, that word has a negative connotation for very good reasons. The "salad bowl" sounds better, fresher, healthier. Bah.

I'm sure we'll find out that he did report the incident. (Trying to think, is there any conceivable way of running an airline where you wouldn't report that? I don't know)"

The Dallas Morning News has reported that there were at least 5 American Airlines pilots calling for the new 737's to be grounded before the last crash, for these exact same reasons, and that Boeing, and the FAA, and their own management dismissed their warnings as unverified. (or something)

It reminds me of the Challenger Space Shuttle crash, where the team that built the boosters was screaming "don't launch! don't launch!" and Nasa said "aw what are you scared of, ya big babies."

40 I was pushing "Americanism" before Trump adopted it. It is a unique form of nationalism, as our founders put individual liberty ahead of government. "Inalienable Rights" from God.

This is unique in the world, afaik. It was formed mostly by WASPs, but was certainly not based in race or ethnicity (except to the extent they were mostly WASPy looking to escape tyranny ... from other WASPs)

The "melting pot" concept is good in most ways, but the current trend is toward building the globalist class by inviting the world, not to melt in, but to divide us and conquer us, on behalf the new world order globalists. (who are anti-American, anti-sovereign state).

Americanism works better for me, leaving out the "nationalism" part, which in many nations, is commie or totalitarian, or class based, or hate based. One nation under God ... rather unique, with our bill of rights and all.

51 Row across Lake Michigan?

Where are they rowing from?

Muskegon to Chicago?

Luddington to Green Bay?

Lake Michigan is frikkin' cold most of the year, and a big way could easily capsize a boat, and end up killing the rowers with hypothermia in about 10 -15 minutes. I would assume they would wear wet suits, unless it is a blazing hot day (water still cold).

The boat has to be able to resist capsizing easily, and probably has to be able to be covered at times. This isn't about a 12 foot dory that you can row.

Radio gear, flashing indicator lights, etc.

But again, there are no sharks in Lake Michigan, and it is salt free.

American nationalism.

It arises from adherence to a political system unique in the world. That fealty has produced the most exceptional country on the planet, populated by an extraordinary people.

The Declaration of Independence--the why.

The Bill of Rights--that which is inalienable and bestowed by God's grace on all.

The Constitution--the blueprint.

I *do* hate her. I have more enmity for her than for most politicians. The reason for this is that she *is* smart. The is very smart. Her earlier work on financial and economic matters was extremely lucid. I didn't like some of her suggestions for fixing problems (she is a Dem, after all), but she was cogent and able to identify a lot of the structural problems. Her analysis was generally good.

That she then went on to be the chief architect of the extortion and power scheme called the CFPB, her hardcore Socialism, etc. cannot be attributed to foolishness or naivete. She let the cat out of the bag before doing those things. No, her behavior can be contributed only to actual malice.

I wish she were stupid. She's not. She's evil.

62 The push by Dems for no Electoral College is simple to understand, and she touches on it in her tweetstorm - if there is no EC, then they can have California turn in 40 million votes for the Dem (who cares how they count them) and have New York turn in 30 million votes for the Dem (again, who cares how) and with 70 million "popular votes", nothing done in the other 48 states will even matter, they will have picked the President.

Probably the only way to combat this will be for Texas to report umpty-million votes for their candidate.

this sounds ridiculous, but if we do away with the EC, this all becomes possible, because there is no Federal mechanism for regulating the way a State counts votes.

That's why Hillary losing screwed them. She was supposed to be the one to start throwing her weight around "for the duration of the crisis".

I really liked that graphic, missed commenting on it at the time. Here's some real geeky science trivia - starting on the east coast near DC, you can trace a "J" shape running down through the south and then hooking back up through Mississippi and into Arkansas. The reason is because those are the counties that are the best black-dirt farmland throughout the south, and they have a very high percentage of Black voters for historical reason, and it's known as the "Black Belt", originally for its soil but also for its voters.

And the reason that the good farmland is located in a shape like that, is because that is roughly where the shoreline of North America was located in the Cretaceous, back when T Rex roamed the land. Look at the map that way, and you can see it.

All States are equal partners in the federal Union.

++++++++++
Also, people wanting to dismiss the electoral college misunderstand (either deliberately or because they're ignorant) the structure of US power. There are lots of nice, practical consequences to the EC system, many of which were well discussed in the tweet storm.

The US, though, is a federal union of individual states. Power is devolved to the Federal *from* the States - not the other way around. The reservoir of power is within the states, not the central government. The Electoral College is one of key parts of ensuring that devolution of power to the executive comes from the source of executive power, which are the states.

This same concept is why the direct elections of senators was such a bad idea. The people were supposed to have one house (the people being the source of state power) to directly represent them in the federal, and the sates were supposed to have one house (the upper house, as it were) to maintain state interests within the federal. Now the people have two houses and the states - the source of federal power - have none.

If you do not assimilate and tear down any markers of your culture and religion, and humbly allow other cultures to supplant yours, you will be demonized.

107 Civic Nationalism is a wonderful ideal and it warms my heart. It sounds great. It feels even better. It inspires, it leads, and makes everyone into one.

But it's a heartbreaking lie. A Nation is a People, it's not a political entity that's called a State, it's not a land that's called a country, its not a belief system that's called an ideology. And not a State issued piece of paper that says "Yuo iz duh citizen Mr.Chungus"

It's in the root of the Latin word for Nation. By birth, breed, stock, tribe. Blood.
It's in the Constitution "Our Posterity". For God's sake it's in the Bible - bringing all nations and assimilating them into one is literally the Evil of The Tower of Babel.

I wish it wasn't so, but I can't live the lie anymore. Taking an ideology and declaring that "This Ideology shall henceforth be a Nation instead" and backing it with the force of government doesn't make it so anymore that calling a man a woman or a dog a cat.

A nation is a people.
A belief system is an ideology.
A political entity is a state.
A citizenship is a piece of paper issued by a state.
And there is no Magic dirt here in America that turns Somalians or whoever into Americans because Magic Dirt isn't a thing.

What is more American than Spaghetti and Pizza? We take great ideas from all who want to contribute to the culture. Although I did not experience this, an example of this melting pot I have heard about is Thanksgiving. You would see all kinds of immigrants that would bring their native dishes to the table but they and their kids also demanded Turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. They wanted to keep some of their cultural heritage, but they came all this way to be Americans!
It might be a dumb example and I should have signed off long ago lol. But I think it is a tiny bit relevant.

The Republican Party is eager for the Democrats to win as always, and have gotten to the point of acquiescing even in the face of blatant fraud, as long as it gets them back out of power.

The EC is the only thing hampering the fraud. That's it. The FEC is nest of Leftist vipers and the GOP is supine and submissive.

As long as the EC is in place, the fraud is much, much harder to make work.

This is the only concern of Democrats.

Has Cap'n Bill or Jonah Goldberg written a stinkpiece about how the EC is bad for the Republic as founded yet?

If not, I'm sure they will by the end of next week.

141 "intersectionality" gives points for every anti- (traditional) American trait. That is all it is.

Diversity and multi-culturalism are their other terms intended to divide. Diverse trumps superior quality. We have to hire diverse people, not the most qualified people.

But when the minority becomes over represented ... (as with government hiring, school admissions) ... then "minority" trumps diversity. It is a one way street, always against traditional America. And fully backed by the conquered (by the commie march) institutions ... news, Hollywood, schools .. and now even banking and especially internet giant corporations.

Disagree. We'll always be stuck in an "angry place forever" because leftism is a genetic defect that will keep recurring in the human population, like near sightedness or mental retardation. There will always be a segment of the population who, when confronted with some wide spread problem, will always think "The solution is government coercion!", and they'll lack beliefs in moral rules that apply to everyone, so they'll always be willing to redefine words and engage in hypocrisy in order to achieve their results, since they value pragmatism above moral behavior, even if their method never even gives them the pragmatic results they want.

Most if not all modern ethnic groups are the result of blending several different groups together - the English most notably, but the Scottish (Irish/Scotti, Picts, Angles, Norse), French (multiple Gaulish tribes, Romans, Franks), Italians (Lets see - Eutruscans, Samnites, Romani, Greeks, Gauls, Germans, Norman-French, Arabs, eggplants...), Germans (multiple once separate and distinct tribes, plus miscellaneous Slavs and Celts), Greeks (Mycenaeans, Dorians, Slavs), Spanish (Celts, Romans, Carthaginians, Visigoths, Arabs, Berbers) also spring to mind...

A nation is a group of people with a common culture, identity, and group loyalty.

The best predictor of a society's success is its culture and values.

The American culture is superior to all others, because we took the best bits of the most successful ones and welded them together.

People do kayak on lake erie quite a bit, but really only in good to very good conditions. Most don't try to go far from shore. The wind can be a huge factor.

Erie is actually fairly shallow. The wave action, therefore, can be highly irregular. Like being in a bathtub, the waves can come at you from all sides in the "right" or wrong conditions and can be additive with rebounds from the shore.

If the guy working two jobs could cover his expenses with one job only it actually would be better for the country -- if more people worked that are now on the dole. I constantly watch the labor participation rate, which had plummeted for nearly 20 years.

You'd think with unemployment rates this low some people would decide to give the labor market a try and the labor participation rate would begin to rise again. All I'm seeing is a flat line. The percentage of people who wish to work are now working. The percentage who don't want to work are not working.

They picked the one dumb-as-a-stump drooling nincompoop in the ranks to teach civics. They already just didn't care about it even then.

true, some of the new groups brought bad heritage traits. I'm not sure "organized crime" ever went away, even if Giuliani cleaned up the streets. But CurrentAmerica will have to teach the basics anyway ... the internet will help accelerate the learning ... and heritage actually is "diversified" (watered down) in general.

The path forward will be different than what the founders sought, imo, as far as "ourselves and our posterity". But it requires a 1920s style stop to massive immigration, all stop to illegals, and a stop to the globalist gangsters running the current coup and DeepState. no small thang.

===

Pretty much. Disapproving of segregation is now "racism" because ethnic groups will be "more comfortable with their own kind."

Oh, and it's not just race... women are frail things that need to be protected and supported by others, and also they have different more emotional ways of thinking that are unsuited to science and business. And if you disagree you're a misogynist.

Take any and every "bad old thing" and just insist that those chauvinist and racist attitudes and ideas are *better*... and magically the ideology becomes "progressive."

One way you can increase the labor participation rate is to vet your immigrants carefully, and also preclude them from going on the dole for a set period of time. Pick the best and brightest, the most eager to work for the rewards this country has to offer, as opposed to their homeland.

When Trump talks about allowing good people in, I think this is his thinking.

It's a shame we didn't have a majority in the House and Senate at that same time we had the most conservative president since Coolidge that could've even addressed 5% of this stuff. Something teensy like re-working food stamps to dis-allow crap like energy drinks and Tom Collins mixes would go a long way.

Oh well. At least we got some tax cuts that will expire.

It's that simple. Some people lack the drive to work. I don't know if it's innate, or a learned thing (I suspect it's a combination of both).

Those people, given an opportunity to not work, will work very, very hard at not working. Harder than if they had a job.

If you make work necessary for them, most of them will rocket out of government dependency so fast your head will spin.

Worth noting - in this political environment the sacrificial lambs sometimes win.
Harris County TX lost it's longtime, effective County Judge this past election to straight-ticket voting. A 27 yo SJW activist with no executive experience whatsoever now is responsible for the lives and well being of about 1.8 million residents. It's going about as well as one might expect.

The County Judge is like the Mayor for the unicorporated parts of Harris County. There is also a Commissioners Court which is like a city council. In Texas' form of government, the Judge and Commissioners have to go to Austin in order to get any legislation passed. Ed Emmet, the R incumbent for County Judge, did a bang up superb job during the flooding of Harvey and previous events back to Katrina and earlier.

Maybe I should add, for those that think that the exception DOESN'T prove the rule, that it only worked for the COUNTRY when the ingredients in the "melting pot" were of European ancestry. Yeah, it works great now, for illegal immigrants, Somalian terrorists, muslim goat humpers, etc. Not for the country or for the people that have a vested interest in maintaining it.

As a Texan, I know a fair number of ethnically Hispanic people who are as American as anybody, many with roots going back to the Revolution.

The idea that people from other races can't blend in here has been disproven completely.

Ain't no magic dirt, ain't no magic blood.

American is a state of mind, it's a desire for as much liberty as you can possibly get without sliding into anarchic chaos.

If you want to be ruled, you're not an American. If you don't, no matter where you are, you've already taken the first step to being one.

CA is a slave state. When I declare this, they have their illegal aliens counted as people for representation which dilutes citizens voting and allows slaveholders a disproportionate vote (because slaves do what they are told). Let's all go back to the Federalist Papers and redebate it.

Why Feinstein and Pelosi are tolerating this ugliness is beyond me.

Seriously, she did not have to even file tax returns the prior 2 years she proudly notes because she did not earn enough to meet the filing threshold. I guess she didn't need a refund of her withheld taxes, if any.

So, let's watch as college bullsession SJW theories meet headon with reality, only affecting the lives and businesses of 1.8 million people.

368 Speaking of immigrants of the past ( I'm first generation), in the Detroit area we had a small town called Hamtramk which was all poles. If you went there in the morning you would see old and young polish wives out washing their driveways and the streets in front of their houses. The churches were unbelievably beautiful, and the stores sold the best baked goods and meats. Now the town people are in full burka, the streets are filthy and the stores are mostly closed due to high crime. And the call to prayer is on speakers. No assimilation.

Posted by: Quint at March 21, 2019 12:29 PM (n13/j)

This. So much.

And those Hillary Soccer Moms are the ones going out of their way to signal how "woke" they are by demonizing any notion that perhaps immigrants should TRY to assimilate.

And if their children are being taught in school that America is evil and that there is no understood definition of "American exceptionalism" or a uniquely American ethos... even those who *want* to assimilate are going to be hard pressed to figure out what that means.

373 You'd think with unemployment rates this low some people would decide to give the labor market a try and the labor participation rate would begin to rise again. All I'm seeing is a flat line. The percentage of people who wish to work are now working. The percentage who don't want to work are not working.

Trump is good but I don't know how he cracks that nut.

There can be several senses of "doing well". Our voting system can be used to destroy this country, as we are seeing. If asians lean left politically, which they do, then we can do without them, despite other metrics they might do well at. And I are half of one. But we really need to stop importing leftists.

385 >>>very true for original America ... guys like Derbyshire (iirc) don't believe the "preposition nation" (or is it proposition?) can really work.

It is not magic dirt, but imo our only choice from here, is the of/by/for the people nation. But we need to unite around self reliance and the individual, which would require massive educational reform. There is a globalist effort to destroy traditional America ... and to form their own "intersectional" absurdity people.

imo we could conceivably swing back to preposition nation, back to individual morality of the home, away from statist control. But it requires red-pilling ... not open border opioid pilling. We gave "them" a fifty year head start on the brainwashing commie infiltration. Trump showed ... "the game is not over".

I know. I agree. Civic Nationalism is the only choice America has left. And it's going to break.

Pretending an ideology is a nation and getting everyone to agree to the Lie doesn't turn a Lie into a truth. It just makes the pain that much greater when the truth comes through.

And it's coming through now.

"But why does the lie matter? Who cares if our Civic Nationalism is really just Ideology rebranded? It doesn't impact anything. We'll still be Free under the lie. Besides people LIKE Civic Nationalism so fuck Logos Amirite?"

It matters because Civic Nationalism REQUIRES statism.

How do you bring different nations together and make them one under one state? With a powerful State propaganda of assimilation like the Irish and Italians underwent or direct brute Force. An Empire of different nations, especially one with elected representation MUST be powerful to keep the peace.

And yes - Massive state propaganda of forced assimilation is better than no assimilation, I agree completely and whole heartedly. It's the only option to keep the Civic Nationalism lie going a but longer and delay outright civil war or probably worse.

But it's still a lie. I'm not participating in it anymore.

But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one
Matthew 5:37

Civic Nationalism is a lie.
