12 Republicans Cross the Aisle to Vote with the Democrats for Open Borders; Trump Promises Veto

Here is the Open Borders caucus of the GOP, which only offered talk and more insincere talk against Obama's DACA action, but suddenly turn into strict constitutionalist tough guys when Trump uses his statutory power -- not inherent constitutional power, which is very iffy and bullshitty, but expressly delegated statutory power -- to build a wall.

There is no constitutional objection to this, as he is using a statutory grant of power. They dress it up as a separation-of-powers constitutional objection, however, because they are liars and cowards who do not want to admit they simply oppose the wall, oppose border enforcement, and favor Obama's de facto open borders regime.

I guess this crew is telling us which promises they mean and to whom. They mean the promises they make to their corporate masters and liberal friends; they don't mean the ones they make to you, Deporable Voters.

Trump announced his veto, which means they'll vote again and will have to get a 2/3rds majority in both houses to override:

Meanwhile, one Republican who did not vote against the emergency declaration is Sassy Sasse, who all the cucks and NeverTrumps want to be their boyfriend.

They all haz sadz now.

The raison d'etre of Matt Lewis is to sucer la bite.

Update: More little girls crying that their dreamboat turned out to be a zero, not a hero!

Yup:

327 "Thank God for Senator Romney, who is above such petty tribalism."

"WTF, Sasse! How dare you betray moderate anti-Trump Republicans!"

After reading KW's article about Lawrence Wright's book "explaining" Texas-

I have to agree with KW.

Lawrence Wright's book is exactly what you'd expect from a talentless soiboy with a Rich Daddy, who writes for a New York audience.

He's basically Ann Richards without the bouffant but with saggier tits. The kind of "I just live in Texas but I'm not really Texan Not really Texan who can't wait to shit all over his state to confirm the extreme parochialism of his New York masters and mistresses.

Any people in Utah to confirm this? I assume Lee is Mormon and the LDS hierarchy has given him the orders to do what Mittens tells you?

Also, regarding Sasse, I almost wish he would run in the GOP primary so that Trump can ...have his way with the beta on live TV during the primary debates. This would be good training so he can molest beta beto in the general.

What a bunch of idiots. The Constitution combined with the existing legislation on the books clearly allows Trump to address the border emergency.

However, we ALL KNOW out here in Nebraska that Sasse does not want to be challenged in his senatorial primary.

The President is acting well within his constitutionally delegated authority and in accordance with his oath to protect and defend the US, and with express statutory authority of the Emergency Powers act.

135 Article I, Section 7 says hi.

Literally in the Constitution.

---------------------------------

I'm well aware of that section tyvm. What it doesn't say is that a 2/3rds majority of the House and Senate can override the action that a president invoked lawfully.

Was the declaration of an emergency legal under the current statutory law? Yes. The Democrats may disagree and take the president to court over it (which they are) but simply passing a resolution of disapproval then overriding the president's veto on that resolution still cannot stop the president from enacting his invocation of the Emergency Powers Act.

In other words - the only way to actually put a stop to the declaration is to convince 5 of the 9 justices that it's an illegal use of the Emergency Declaration. I'd wager pretty good odds that it'll get blocked at the Supreme Court. I'm not happy about it, but not looking at it with rose colored glasses.

$292 million - 2017 Budget
$1.375 billion - 2018 Budget
$1.375 billion - 2019 Budget
$601 million - drug money
$2.5 billion - military construction funds

Total: $6,142,000,000

And it looks like they've only spent $1.15 Billion out of that for ~115 miles of wall. So, this emergency declaration looks to me to maybe be a red herring while they use the less controversial sources of funding to continue building the wall.

The issue is not what powers the President has or does not have.

We know the Democrats are an alien enemy force that is in country and hostile. They'll either use the Constitution as a shield or a cudgel or shred it entirely.

There is a national crisis. The aforementioned and the 30 million and counting foreign invaders that are here to subsume the nation and our identity.

WAR.
========
Yep. You see all these fears about tomorrow and important considerations, but only if you have a tomorrow. If you don't have a tomorrow then that means today is, what's it called . . .its an . . . EMERGENCY and you'd better fix it so you can worry about the niceties if there is a tomorrow.

Not big into predictions (I hew to Yogi's dictum on those), but still.

Was sort of obvious.

I think most are underestimating the significance of this. Not substantive. Veto will be sustained. Court cases will go nowhere. Inferior barriers will be built, to some extent.

But that in 2019, the GOP could feel safe in pulling such an outrage .... tells me they've calculated the electorate is not to be feared. Trump was a black swan, and a one-off (even if he's re-elected). Critical aspects of the agenda that lifted Trump into the WH can continue to be snubbed, or actively undermined, by the GOP. With impunity.

Not shocking, but a bit surprising, and scary.

Not every one - by the numbers, we can make the case that there are about 40 reliable conservatives in the Senate, and about 175 in the House. But that's all we got, and that ain't nowhere close to being able to pass anything.

We're facing liberal majorities in both Houses, and an overwhelming Liberal Majority in the Bureaucracy. That's what we're fighting, so get used to it - the BEST we can hope for unless we win the next election is to try and block Congress from doing anything. Thinking that it's possible for them to do anything "good" is foolishness.

277 Banning bullets will never pass Constitutional muster. That's why the states strategy to ban "parts" or "features" is going to fail miserably when it finally gets to SCOTUS. You can't ban the most popular rifle in America. That is exactly what the Framers meant we should have in the Second Amendment. The danger will come with registration schemes, where they claim that public safety outweighs the right. Leftists will use that as the next area to exploit. Bank on it.

They don't want "electoral prospects", they want to lord it over the peasants. If they can't do that, then what's the point?
There is nothing "stunning" here at all. People have - accurately - been calling them out on their bad-faith, 'gotta vote for our shit sandwich weasels' tactics, in addition to explaining why they do it, for 20+ years now.
Even now, you're operating on the premise that they're not a bunch of fucking weasels whose interests don't coincide with yours at all. They are, and they don't, which is why this was predictable.

Once the agents made movement to rescue the poor kids before they were sliced to ribbons, the smuggler moved his real cargo. Ten adults.

None of the ten were apprehended and now are in the US to do whatever.

No emergency? Horsesh@t.

514 He's a strict Constitutionalist and he probably didn't like the smell of
Trump getting around the budget limitations of Congress.

Then why have the statute that expressly authorizes exactly this? If the Congress wants to rewrite the statute to reclaim their delegated authority I'd support them! In fact, they absolutely should amend the statute. Stop future Democrats from this kind of action. But this was a statutory case, and only tangentially about the Constitution.

515 Oh beautiful! Those foreign guys!
Will work for pennies too!
We opened up the floodgates here,
Because we hated you!

America el Norte es!
Co-prosperity Sphere!

We only ran for office so,
we could rule you by fear!

And she'll do the same for the next, just like the previous, and she does not give a fuck if any of the three tell the rest of us to eat cake.

This is part of the problem. The majority of it. All of this.

517 If only there was someone with tens of millions of twitter followers and is followed by every news organization who could put out the message that "those who vote against a secure border don't have Americans best interest" and ramp it up until they are virtually accused of treason and demanding swift trials....

Not an excuse... what Trump is doing, he is doing with power given to the President by the Congress.

Did Lee sponsor any similar legislation to end the emergencies declared by Teh One? No he didn't so he has not Constitutional reason to stop the President from stepping up and doing the job Congress won't.

BTW, the yelliness is not directed at you but at the feckless, open borders Congressional jackholes who could give a shit less about American citizens or their opinions on US sovereignty and security.

530 So, to summarize, Trump got rolled with the MS-13 enabling act he signed without reading, without meeting with his angel-family supporters because he lazily assumed he'd just be going national emergency route, so why bother vetoing the thing...continuing his sucessful shutdown against pelosi's amnesty push.

Instead...he signs it, declares a national emergency and the same fuckers in Congress decide to try to override his nat security powers. Recall, these assholes did NOTHING to stop Obama.

Ryan let obama keep spending stupid money (his stash). Nothing to stop nuclearizing Iran.

NOTHING to stop Obama's executive Amensty.

FUCKERS!

531 I regret supporting the Mitt Romney and John McCain campaigns for the presidency. They were unfit for the office. Barry was unfit too but I now think they were even **less** fit, as impossible as that seems. At least Barry is somewhat more honest about who he is.

I will never go back to the republican party. It's completely dead to me now.
