Giger ELP.jpg

Work Nr. 217 ELP I
Hans Ruedi Giger

Not quite high art, but fun and pleasing and reminiscent of our youth (mine at least).

Well...not the troll, but the ELP cover!

7 Willowed...

361 Email just went out corporate wide announcing #BalanceforBetter, some nonsense about "Let's build a gender-balanced world"

Here's an excerpt...

Everyone has a part to play - all the time, everywhere. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence.

You will be made to care, in other words.

You will not be permitted to be comfortable, in other words.

No.

Just. Fucking. No.

Congratulations fascists, I'm now that much closer to spitting upon my hands and hoisting the black flag.

Re: mega church sex scandal.

I was expecting something along the lines of adultery or something similar but apparently it is "accusations of unwanted kissing, extended hugs, and lewd comments." Not that this is ok, if true, but has #MeToo come to the church? Unless the kissing was on the lips, I see these things as actions that could be misconstrued by the recipient.

Anyway, the guy denied but resigned.

60 You know that ELP cover originally had a penis below her mouth sticking up towards her suggestively (and in reference to the title, Brain Salad Surgery, a blowjob) and the outer cover had a vice-like device, I guess indicative of the mouth action. ELP was forced to remove it by the record company, who claimed outlet stores would never stock it with the penis on the cover. Giger refused, and they got some staff artist to airbrush it out and make it into a "shaft of light" or so they say, I don't actualy see the "shaft" instead of the shaft.

Our busy time is the end of the year, so we kept losing time until a couple of years ago when they shifted the calendar.

I usually have the problem of not knowing what to do with so much PTO, so I find myself looking at Dolley and saying, "When should I just take a random week off?"

So, when my mom said, "Let's go to Spain for two weeks this summer!" I was all, "Sure, why not?"

...the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. ...in the 6th balcony!

My first time there, my college roomie and I in our stupidity hitched to Chicago for um uh uh Neil Young? I know Poco was the other act.

During Poco, when all the kids packed in that 6th balcony started stomping feet in unison, my buddy and I backed up to the wall near the exit, just in case they got that Tacoma Narrows Bridge rhythm going. It didn't fall. But it sure was rattling.

And that was the least scary part of that miserable adventure.

Fifteen years ago I worked the line
With a thousand more all doing time
While a foreman smiled complicit crime

They said she'd been there forty years
...I think that's rude...
'Cause forty years is forty years
And I was only fifteen then.

159 Today's reading at Mass was from Sirach 6: 5 - 17. I think it's a nice reminder of what a friend should be, and shouldn't be (I have to admit that part made me think of Michael Cohen vis-a-vis his relationship with the president, LOL).

A kind mouth multiplies friends and appeases enemies,
and gracious lips prompt friendly greetings.
Let your acquaintances be many,
but one in a thousand your confidant.
When you gain a friend, first test him,
and be not too ready to trust him.
For one sort is a friend when it suits him,
but he will not be with you in time of distress.
Another is a friend who becomes an enemy,
and tells of the quarrel to your shame.
Another is a friend, a boon companion,
who will not be with you when sorrow comes.
When things go well, he is your other self,
and lords it over your servants;
But if you are brought low, he turns against you
and avoids meeting you.
Keep away from your enemies;
be on your guard with your friends.
A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter;
he who finds one finds a treasure.
A faithful friend is beyond price,
no sum can balance his worth.
A faithful friend is a life-saving remedy,
such as he who fears God finds;
For he who fears God behaves accordingly,
and his friend will be like himself.

If true, then the answer here is simple. D.C. is Federal territory and the Federal government is not sanctuary.

Send in a phalanx of ICE agents to a press conference, then arrest and deport the press secretary. Then arrest and prosecute Sanders for hiring an illegal.

Show of force. Maximum punishments. Include asset forfeiture for both of them. Everything the press secretary has is an ill-gotten derivative of a crime. Sanders is also gaining from it by reducing his costs.

And actually, I don't think it was so much a side project as much as it was a "I have to get bills paid because I quit my lucrative band in a snit... again" project. Opened the door for Patrick Moraz, though. Still like Relayer, though it's generally thought of as one of their weaker albums.

263 Damn!! Late to the thread!

This artist is fun, as CBD said, and I find his work fascinating. Look at the contrast of the two images in style and material. Both are highly effective and very different with the rough graphite or charcoal Troll versus the smooth detail and contours of the woman. Talk about establishing an aura or atmoshphere. I can't look at these works without thinking of story lines to go with them. Another Scandi (or Scandi-inspired) artist to add to the list.

I have to learn more about Kittelsen and his images. I was surprised that the second painting pre-dates WW I. It could have been done yesterday.

Thanks for another great Friday thread, CBD. Off to find out more about this guy.

Yes, but were never going to change their minds. The best you can do is de-energize them, give them a feeling of resignation and futility. The ones you want are the larger number of people who do not feel deeply about politics. You want those people to develop and express a sense of annoyance when *another* theory of Trumpian Perfidy is launched, people who will come to support Trump not out of love for him, but just to spite all of those other asses who keep bothering you with this stuff.

But nobody on the Left will face consequences for three years of serious crimes... this will be swept under the rug, and they'll walk away whistling. That's a big loss.

If we had some means to serve justice on them, we might be able to get them to stop it. But they'll just pursue the next investigation (Trump Org) as though nothing happened, because nothing did.

Necropsy report indicated that the carcass had been scavenged (Ravens or other carrion eaters perhaps) and that the actual body weight of the cat would have been 35-40 lbs. Estimated to be 3 to 4 months old, which makes me wonder where the mother was, as mtn liion cubs usually stay with the mother for 1-2 years.

The necropsy also did not determine if it was male or female. (Hint: male = blue booties)

In Alexandria, same thing, they've got 100% support. Why would AMZ mess around with any place where 30% of the locals don't want them there?

AMZ should call Cuomo's bluff and tell him "yeah sure we'll come back, but now we want $20 billion worth of tax subsidies!"

btw - look at how, when the real deal making comes down, Bezos and Trump negotiate the same way.

I don't see how they can at this point. The media have made her the new face of the Party, and the #Resistance, and turned her into a national household name. It would be embarrassing in a general sense to try and kneecap her, now.

But even if they do, her very, very liberal constituents are seeing her face every day, several times a day, in the national news. They're Dem zombies, and 'm sure she's a hero to them by now.

If they primary her, I expect it would be futile, and just big fat bloody nose for them in that district. Also, it would damage unity with the base nationwide (which Dems, unlike Reps, actually care about).

I think if they want rid of AOC, they'll have to eliminate her district.

405 >>JackStraw, I think there's a reasonable case that the entire Mueller investigation has been a giant obstruction of justice for SpyGate, the noninvestigation of the Hillary emails, and perhaps other crimes that go back longer and deeper. The whole thing was ginned up for an improper purpose and prevented the proper investigation from going forard.

I agree with you completely. The only thing I would modify is it was definitely to cover up other crimes.

Trump was an existential threat to a world order that made some people, not just Americans, extremely rich and powerful. Globalists weren't just a boggey man theory, they have been in charge on both sides of the aisle pretty much since the end of WWII with little interruption. Nationalism is their sunlight.

I don't think we are close to resolution on understanding all the tangled relationships that culminated in the fake Russia scandal. But we're getting there.

The other day, I took the dogs out of a walk and I always wear a big, wide brimmed, floppy hat because my eyes are very sensitive to light. So I put my hat on and the cord that goes beneath my chin was above the brim and I thought WTF? Is there some hole it accidentally slipped through or something. I looked but found nothing. Finally, the truth dawned on me. The hat was inside out.

Not sure. And, it is possible NY Dems will be pissed off enough to want to do that. Problem is, I think that regardless of how stupid and annoying this horsefaced scrunt is, she's more valuable than not to the national Party.

She certainly has some faction at that level backing her. No way is this retard capable of achieving this kind of instant prominence on her own. And The Democrats don't really tolerate local party apparatchiks going against the central committee.

I think you have to try to look at this like an elite Democrat( difficult to do, it's so foreign). She is like the bratty child who starts telling all the adults in the room what to do and what is right and wrong. Everyone thinks she's cute, and laughs. And moreover, she gets a lot of attention.
Right now, the Dems love her because she is giving them lots of attention and is keeping Nancy Pelosi off the front page with her obvious gaffes and dementia like forgetfulness. So she is extremely useful to them at this point.
The Dems are allowing an obviously repeat offender in Tahlib whatshername to continuously state and post anti semitic and racist claims, doing zero about it. Why? Because they are getting funding and money from anti Israel donors and probably organizations such as Hamas. So they will roll their eyes and pretend to have scolded her, when they actually are in agreement with her and want the money train to continue.

500 490 Yep, and New York is going to have to give a couple of districts to Texas"

Why should states like that have the same representation as Texas?"

Texas has 36 congressional districts, New York has 27. After the next census, that's likely to at *least* go to 38 and 25, respectively. New York could lose more than that, which is why they are so desperate to allow illegals to be counted. (but oddly enough that boost's Texas representation too)

505 By the way, what's the over and under that the Republicans totally screw up their response to Cory Booker's new bill legalizing recreation marijuana federally?

Right now, ( I haven't seen the bill , don't know it's specifics) Booker is going to get a lot of under 45 year old support for not just his bill, but his presidential campaign. And don't underestimate it. Recreational marijuana legalization is why Michigan now has a female progressive governor who is already screwing things up, a female progressive AG and Debbie Stabenow reelected Senator. That one ballot initiative brought out every 18-35 year old in the state who then also voted democrat to make sure their new found toking freedom would be in no way impeded by a republican government.

Stewart Varney wants Trump to beat Corey to the punch and reschedule marijuana as a class II instead of a class I drug. Considering how Trump feels about addictive drugs, I don't know what he will do with that one.
