Paul Joseph Watson and the ISIS Bride NSFW-Language To paraphrase the oft-misquoted Mark Twain, rumors of the death of the California Republican Party are greatly exaggerated. The results of the November 2018 elections, while not completed until December, got worse each passing day until we came up with the final tally. It was, to use the technical terminology preferred by political pundits, a massacre, a slaughter, a bloodbath. As I’m an eternal optimist, and in an effort to stop myself from curling up into the fetal position and avoid making plans to flee the once-Golden State like so many others, I am able to see the good news buried within these dismal results. Unfortunately, it’s going to take a bit longer. Scientists have launched a major new phase in the testing of a controversial genetically modified organism: a mosquito designed to quickly spread a genetic mutation lethal to its own species, NPR has learned. For the first time, researchers have begun large-scale releases of the engineered insects, into a high-security laboratory in Terni, Italy. "This will really be a breakthrough experiment," says Ruth Mueller, an entomologist who runs the lab. "It's a historic moment." The goal is to see if the mosquitoes could eventually provide a powerful new weapon to help eradicate malaria in Africa, where most cases occur. Figures don't lie, but liars figure. Or Sen. What makes Venezuela’s food crisis all the more grim is that experts agree it is a result of human decision-making. “It’s not due to droughts, or floods,” Deborah Hines, the World Food Program Representative in Colombia, told me. “The situation is purely political.” Far from alleviating the crisis, Maduro has made basic necessities contingent on political loyalty. In 2016, to preserve his support, he launched a government-subsidized food program, known as the Local Food Production and Provision Committees (claps). Venezuelans are eligible to receive a monthly food handout, and other benefits, as long as they register for the Fatherland Card, which officials use to track voting participation. clap boxes usually arrive late and half-empty, but, during election seasons, they are stuffed, and recipients like Vegas get text messages from local representatives such as “Love is repaid with love.” Well it is a good thing he didn't tweet out #LearnToCode or he could have been locked out of his account for a week. Under the account called @khamenei_ir, (which, while not blue-checked, is the account Iranians say the mullah uses), Khamenei tweeted that the death fatwa pronounced in 1989 by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, against Rushdie for his book, The Satanic Verses, was "solid and irrevocable." I am going to repost this from the Food Thread because I would love to see AOC respond.
The Green New Deal proposes eliminated cows due to their methane flatulence contribution to Global Climate WTF - ever. In an earlier thread I asked, semi-rhetorically, " do sea cows fart?" I had NO idea. But after some research I found out that , in fact, Manatees actually must fart in order to survive. ...manatees rely on flatulence to float or sink in water, storing and releasing gas to enable them to rise or drop at will in the water. Even though manatees have neither swim bladders nor hind limbs to help them swim, a combination of dense front-body ribs and flatulence helps them to regulate their buoyancy and stay horizontal in a water column. Farting is so important that if they don't do it they become constipated and unable to dive properly, spinning with their tails raised above their heads and struggling to achieve balance. It's simple really. In order to #savetheplanet AOC will have to #killthemanatees. Posted by: mikeyG at February 24, 2019 10:16 PM (LL1Be) 49

I shouldn't push around the kind of guys who can gene-sequence mosquitoes, but I'd recommend coming up with a new race that either wasn't a host for the malaria bug, or didn't have a taste for humans. Lots of birds and fish kind of rely on them for food. We don't have a happy record, messing with the invisible web of all creation, et al.
One of God's noblest creatures is the Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Mosquitoes eat us. The trout jump up and eat the mosquitoes. Then the trout jump, more or less, into your boat.. Shortest food cycle I've ever seen. The fish flesh was pink, and old timers said that was blood. Are they breeding Volkswagens? Nah, they just sound like them. "Love bugs" or "Airplane bugs" (they fly United) are larger than mosquitoes and when they mate, the male doesn't fly away, he stays attached to the female (which I would think would hurt like a SOB) while she flies around slowly looking for moving cars and motorcycles to fly into. They make a grand mess during their mating season and are really difficult to remove, especially from a radiator. Can't leave them on too long because like Aliens, they have acid for blood and will ruin paint. The little fuckers are spawns of B. L. Z. Bubb whom the geniii at University of Florida thought mosquitoes would die out if they mated with the LBs who wouldn't produce offspring. Now we have two nuisances down here instead of one. Really, 3 if you count the Coward County Sheriff's Department. Posted by: BackwardsBoy at February 24, 2019 10:33 PM (HaL55) 97

I don't know Wright and Mason so well but Gilmour at least was good to Barrett. Barrett didn't suffer poverty. Pitchfork: Perhaps the band's most backwards-looking album, it is quintessentially and self-consciously Pink Floyd, for better or for worse. The Endless River is stately, grandiose, and searching, but it is also bloated, pompous, and so conceptually top-heavy it just might fall off the CD rack or crash your computer.

Saturday, had to go around the LONG way because rockslide closed I-40 at the TN / NC state line. On the way back through the same detour, the semi blocked the windy 2 lane road so we had to backtrack and take another road even further to get around that. The new (very curvy) road had a raging river alongside of it that was only lacking a couple of feet of coming out into the road. Then today the tree came down in front of us, so we turned around and went back several miles and across a different gap in the mountains, when we came up on the fire dept that had the road blocked off because of the downed power line. Had to backtrack a little ways and then take another side road. Not as bad as Saturday but man.... Posted by: AshevilleRobert at February 24, 2019 11:25 PM (DjIXP) 219

Mr Wednesday Night was in a thread earlier dropping this bullshit, off-topic. I wish he'd find another shtick. Or just leave us alone." My feeling is that this is a totally fucked up, blame the US way of interpreting something that is actually happening. First of all, understand that provoking a crisis is needed to *stop* the starving, and ending it is not "exploiting" it. The US, Columbia, and Brazil (and some others) worked together this week to give Maduro a choice - they would move aid for the citizens there, and if he cared about his people, he could accept it. That would have been the simple choice. *Or* he could have reacted violently, and done everything he could to prolong the suffering, in order to hang on to power. Also, everyone in the power structure in Venezuela is also going to have to clearly choose a side. Maduro chose - and I believe he Chose Poorly. There was a reason Guaido made a surprise trip to Columbia yesterday - and it's because he doesn't want to be the target of one of Maduro's hit squads once the shooting starts. And it means that *he* thinks that time is coming very soon - a few days, no more, I'd guess. Posted by: Tom Servo at February 24, 2019 11:59 PM (V2Yro) 304

It's not "provoking a war" - it's providing an acceptable humanitarian rationale for Columbia and Brazil to seize their respective border provinces, in order to ensure the flow of aid. (with US logistical support, no US troops in any great number needed) No need to go to Caracas; with the border provinces freed from the Venezuelan military, it will give Guaido a base to set up his government, and with borders and supplies shut off, Maduro's govm't in Caracas will collapse in 1 or 2 weeks. Venezuelan military is no longer a real concern, they are no longer an actual fighting force, just a band of thugs with some small arms, fit for beating up on civilians but nothing more. Their high-T men have been leaving since the Viking age. They went to Russia, and Normandy, and England, and the friggin' Mediterranean. A Norseman took over Sicily at one point, and the Emperor in Constantinople had the Varangian Guard, which was Norsemen and Anglo-Saxons. Later, the remaining medium-T men emigrated to the United States. Guess what that left behind. My fellow Morons and 'Ettes: State Senator Ernie Chamber is the single most bigoted, racist, hate filled individuals in the entire state of Nebraska. Without Ernie constantly stirring the racist pot like the Energizer Bunny, race relations in Omaha would improve 100%. He is not a stupid man; in the Unicameral, he plays Robert's Rules of Order like Stevie Ray Vaughan played the guitar. His electoral district is comprised of black people and Caucasians eaten alive by white guilt which is why he gets re-elected every two years. ( These are the same people that gave Obummer his one Nebraska Electoral vote in 2007 and 2011.
We got rid of him once by passing the anti-Ernie Law, aka term limits. Unfortunately, one of his fellow travelers squatted in his seat until enough time had passed that Ernie could reclaim it. So once more we are stuck with him turning every proposed Unicameral law into a "racist" plot against the helpless victims of his district. And they are victims. He is so hell bent on pursuing his personal grievances against non-Black Omaha, he has done nothing whatsoever to improve his district. Anything that gets done up there is in spite of him -- not because of him. I could spend the rest of the night writing vignettes about Ernie's follies, but it's just too much work. Cuban soldiers in Grenada didn't exactly fold like a bad poker hand.
Keep that in mind when "discounting" how they might fight. They'll fight damn well, and damn hard, is how they'll fight. They won't win, they won't stand a chance. Their leadership will fail them, as always, and their logistics are, and will be, a joke. The accurate, desirable view of this? We need a truly Free, Nation of Cuba, and from that raise a Cuban Division to serve in the U.S. Army, and a "__th" Marine to serve similarly in the Corps. You can plan to defeat the Cuban forces in Venezuela, and ought do so with no quarter. Afterwards though, plan to Monroe Doctrine the all hell out of Cuba itself, and then raise and recruit their best to our benefit. Worked for the Brits in working with the Gurhka. Outlanders manga so far features a biomechanical ship ripped right off HR Giger. The main character on Earth is a Peter-Parker type working for a Japanese newspaper (Tetsuya; all Japanese protagonists are Tetsuya, cf. 'Akira'). Hey at least he's not a high school student like most shounen. So that's a plus! The "villain" Kahm, if you can call her that, needs to wear more clothes, but Japan and but manga. In her first reconnaissance to Earth she's lost her sword and Japanese Peter Parker has stolen it. Posted by: boulder t'hobo at February 25, 2019 12:53 AM (ykYG2) 411

403 Guaido --- accent on the O
Pronounced--- Gwy-DOH ------------------------ How does that jibe with the regular rules of Spanish orthography? Seems to me the accent is usually on the first syllable? Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 25, 2019 12:48 AM (nPGq2) ------------------------ There is a written accent on the O. (I can't do that here.) That's the only reason the O is stressed. Without a marked accent, the stress is always on the penultimate syllable --- unless the word ends in D, R, L, or Z, where it will be on the last syllable. 391 -- Nebraska is broken into several electoral units. Theoretically, the candidates for each seat does not belong to a political party. It just so happens that most seats are held by conservatives rather than liberals. The idea is to save money by having only one deliberative body with the populace as a whole serving as the second, making our wishes known through the voting process. Laws are proposed, discussed, and either passed or not passed like the other forty nine states with their two houses. Particularly contentious laws usually end up on the ballot .
the next election. 394 -- Thanks to Ernie, you are completely correct. But there is a substantial number of guilt ridden Caucasians in the edges who vigorously virtue signal by voting for the man. The interesting thing is that South Omaha is now over run with our neighbors to the South of the border. In fact, if I am not mistaken, the southern invaders out number the native North Omahans, and have absolutely no problem letting that be known -- especially around election time. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 25, 2019 01:07 AM (2qPhT) Yes. It is the Champion car engine, also used in half-ton pickups of the day. Introduced in 1939, at 164 cubic inches, got increased to 170 in 1941, IIRC. I think a change from Babbitt to shell bearings was concurrent. It's a flathead six, with 4 main bearings, which, because of its fairly short stroke for the day, hold up just fine. That engine continued in production, with some changes, of course, until 1960, and then begat an OHV six that had basically the same bottom end, for another 4 years. I like Sen. Ernie Chambers. It's like when the Palestinians got to vote and showed the world that they weren't forced to support evil, they honestly support and elect evil. North Omaha votes to "keep it real". And Senator "When keeping it real goes wrong" Chambers represents them well. Posted by: Downcast at February 25, 2019 05:22 AM (QkNs4) 499

The opioid epidemic has become a national crisis. While most victims of this modern phenomenon are addicted adults, there are newborn babies born of those addicts who suffer from withdrawal the moment they enter the world. I know of a woman, on methadone, who had a baby last year. The baby had to stay behind in the hospital an extra week after birth because of their addiction(s). Covered under Obamacare, I'm certain. I was just looking up information on breast feeding. It seems unclear if the infant will become re-addicted if the mother breast feeds. Some indication it can be lethal. But let's keep that southern border wide open so more cartel drugs can enter the country. That's the answer. Posted by: Newest Nic at February 25, 2019 06:13 AM (jYje5) 512

"Scientists have launched a major new phase in the testing of a
controversial genetically modified organism: a mosquito designed to quickly spread a genetic mutation lethal to its own species, NPR has learned. For the first time, researchers have begun large-scale releases of the engineered insects, into a high-security laboratory in Terni, Italy. "This will really be a breakthrough experiment," says Ruth Mueller, an entomologist who runs the lab. "It's a historic moment." The goal is to see if the mosquitoes could eventually provide a powerful new weapon to help eradicate malaria in Africa, where most cases occur." Someone did not think this through. J.B. the Hutt. LOL. Hey..taxing plastic bags will save Illinois! Posted by: lizabth at February 25, 2019 07:25 AM You know what I figured out? We have these imitation milk crates, real lightweight, real cheap we bought at Lowe's. Keep 'em in the back of the SUV to put groceries in so they don't slide all the hell around on the trip home from the grocery store. The other day the light bulb (finally) went off in my head and I figured I was loading them from grocery plastic bags, when I could actually take them into the store and throw my stuff directly into them. Skip an entire second loading and the plastic bags. The clerk at the self check out had to override something because of the additional weight on the scale, but he said, "I like that. That makes sense." Posted by: Newest Nic at February 25, 2019 07:32 AM (jYje5) 561
