The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“We need to kick luxury real estate lobbyists to the curb and defend working people’s way of life. Skyrocketing cost of living is a national crisis that CAN be addressed. It’s not just an NYC issue - it’s happening in every US metro area.” Rep. Alexandria Occasional Cortex (D-Mars)

Quote II

“In terms of policy, I don’t have a lot of problems with what he’s doing. He’s a bit of a brat, I guess you could say. And that is astounding for people especially for people who come from the more liberal side of politics. They’re used to being the brats.” Kelsey Grammer

Quote III

"I think Bernie did an incredible service for this country in his campaign in 2016, and it fundamentally changed the debate. I think we’re in a new situation here. There’s obviously a different dynamic, and I think everyone should assess the current situation we’re in.

"I do not rule out any particular path for myself," Mayor Warren Wilhelm Jr. Bill De Blasio

Quote IV

The demand for racism has far outpaced the supply, so radicals like Smollett now use homemade alternatives. Taylor Day

Quote V

“If the U.S. armed forces made such short work of a hardened goon like Saddam Hussein, imagine what they could do to the soft and sybaritic Saudi royal family,” Max Boot

Fake stories can be propelled by fake surveys. The NRA calls out the Giffords Law Center.

Where it becomes a real problem is when those numbers used are false or misleading, and the National Rifle Association is calling out Giffords for using those kinds of numbers [emphasis NRA]:

In a 2/14/19 article by Julia Manchester posted on The Hill.com, the reporter says that “The Giffords Law Center, a gun control advocacy group, found in a poll one month after the Parkland shooting last year that 69 percent of National Rifle Association members expressed support” for gun control.

You and I deal with people frequently that we don't care for. Yet we don't become unhinged and become complete assholes. Store employee becomes unglued at teenage customer.

After all the controversy, children are still being berated by grown adults for wearing President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.

The latest incident making the rounds occurred recently at a Vans store in Overland Park, Kansas, according to a video posted online by Ryan Fournier, the National Chairman for Students for Trump.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome is real,” Fournier tweeted. “A Vans store employee at Oak Park Mall, Kansas told a 14-year-old “f*ck you” for wearing a MAGA hat. Let’s get him fired.”

Just a guess. This little prick never faced any consequences for his crappy behavior early in life.

Did you ever wonder why your car made a weird noise when just one window is open? It's That Damned Helmholtz Resonance! H/T Hank Curmudgeon

It can be as loud as standing alongside a Boeing 767 at takeoff. And it’s about as irritating as having someone thumping on a bass drum in the back seat. Whether you call it wind throb or buffeting or just plain annoying, it happens when someone in the car opens a single window at speed and it stops when a second window rolls down.

The phenomenon that produces this noise is the Helmholtz Resonance, the same principle that makes a bottle hum when you blow over its open top. It’s the interaction of the gas in a container with a single orifice and the other gases that are, um, passing over that orifice. In this case, the container is the car. The interaction between the two masses of air produces vortexes that compress and decompress the air, producing the throbbing effect. Hermann von Helmholtz, the German physician and physicist who described this interaction, died in 1894 and was thus unavailable for comment.

Fake News? You decide.
The United States is doing pretty poorly in reducing emissions. For The New York Times, Brad Plumer and Blacki Migloiozzi, show the current status and what could happen if the U.S. adopted more drastic plans already in place around the world.

Wired for negativity? No shit.

Maybe you forgot to turn your slow cooker on before heading out on your hike, you had to endure a traffic jam that made you 20 minutes late to work, or a colleague made a passive aggressive comment in a meeting. Suddenly every minuscule inconvenience, from misspelled names on lattes to missing the elevator door, seems like a plot to incite your inner fury.

When one small event throws a wedge into our day it can sometimes send us down a slippery, hours-long slope of exasperated huffs and cranky faces. But why is it so hard to shake the frustration or anger?

Is internet dating killing the workplace romance?

In the 1940s, most people in a relationship in the US reported meeting their partner in one of three ways: through family, friends, or school.

But starting in the 1970s, as the share of women in the workforce rose, so did the ratio of couples who started out as coworkers. From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, nearly one in five US couples reported having met in the workplace.

I met the fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum. on the job. If we met today I would be to frightened by the harassment rules/laws that are in effect in the work place.

Rib eye steaks should come from a farm or a ranch and not a Lab.

A FUTURE IN which your hamburger is grown from animal cells in a lab is rapidly approaching. The idea is that by culturing meat in a vat, you not only cut down on animal slaughter but greatly reduce emissions, on account of cattle taking a lot of energy to raise and butcher and ship. That's not to mention their digestive systems venting a significant amount of the greenhouse gas methane into the atmosphere.

That’s the idea, anyway. The problem is that there’s very little data to back up the assumption that in vitro or cultured meat, as it’s also known, would be better for the environment than cattle. Scientists know the impact of that cattle; in the US, animal agriculture is responsible for around 4 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. But we hit a snag with quantifying the impact of wide-scale production of in vitro meat, because it, um, doesn’t exist yet.

As long as our country has these type of people we have a chance. A young man with solid values. H/T Bitter Clinger

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) – A 7-year-old boy is going viral in a community northwest of Austin after he set up a hot chocolate stand to raise money for President Donald Trump’s border wall.

Jennifer Stevens says it all began when her son, Benton, watched Trump’s State of the Union Address on Feb. 5.

“He wanted to know about the wall so we explained what it was about and he (Benton) was like ‘I want to raise money for the wall,’” she said.

I enjoy f*cking with Mother Earth everyday.

Streaming is the most popular way people listen to music, but old formats like cassettes and vinyl have both seen an increase in sales in recent years. In fact, vinyl has seen a remarkable sales increase of 1,427% since 2007, selling around around four million LPs in 2018 in the UK alone. Since the popularity of vinyl shows no signs of stopping soon, this means that more non-recyclable discs will be manufactured – which could have a negative impact on the environment.

Advance romance.

From the Drudge Report to The New York Times, sex robots are rapidly becoming a part of the national conversation about the future of sex and relationships. Behind the headlines, a number of companies are currently developing robots designed to provide humans with companionship and sexual pleasure – with a few already on the market.

Unlike sex toys and dolls, which are typically sold in off-the-radar shops and hidden in closets, sexbots may become mainstream. A 2017 survey suggested almost half of Americans think that having sex with robots will become a common practice within 50 years.

Hey, I thought Orange Man was going to put all the gheys into concentration camps. 'Trump administration launches global effort to end criminalization of homosexuality.
The administration is responding in part to a reported hanging of a young gay man in Iran, Trump’s top geopolitical foe.'

The Trump administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in dozens of nations where it's still illegal to be gay, U.S. officials tell NBC News, a bid aimed in part at denouncing Iran over its human rights record.

U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality — mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.

“It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct,” said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.

Oh Lucy Alexandria, you have some 'splaining to do. Once again, do as I say not as I do.

Writer/reporter Luke Thompson divulged last week that Rep. Alexander Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, set up her boyfriend, Riley Roberts, with an official house.gov email address, noting that he was “drawing a salary on the taxpayer’s dime.”

The self-avowed democratic socialistic was quick to dispute that notion, responding to say Roberts was set with the email account to access her Google calendar, which may not be entirely within House rules, given that they don’t appear to be married — the haste in which Ocasio-Cortez responded verified the accuracy of the boyfriend having a government email address.

“Manifestly under the influence of alcohol to the point (police) felt she was a danger to herself or others,” So of course she is our Genius Award Winner.

Kilee Nicole Cunningham, of the 100 block of Indian Spring Drive in Hamilton Township, was reimbursed for the money lost in the machine but punched the glass on the game, police said. She was told to leave Blue Mountain Lanes in the 400 block of East Morrestown Road, but instead requested more alcohol, police said. When she was refused, she threw a cup of water in the face of an employee before heading out, police said.

An officer caught up to Cunningham and a man walking north of East Moorestown Road near Route 33, police said. When asking for identification, the officer noticed both smelled of alcohol, police said. Cunningham refused the request and after yelling obscenities, slurring her words and losing her balance, the officer determined she was “manifestly under the influence of alcohol to the point (police) felt she was a danger to herself or others,” police said.

69 Fake stories can be propelled by fake surveys. The NRA calls out the Giffords Law Center.

I took a couple of sociology classes in college. They benefited me in that I learned about surveys and polls. The wording of the questions, the methods of picking respondents, the number of people questioned, and many other methodology issues affect the results. A gun control advocacy group doing a survey about gun control is a joke.

OK sugartits, if you were at all serious about defending working people's way of life, here's what you'd be doing: you'd be working to reduce taxes for everyone. You'd be working to reduce regulations, particularly the unnecessary ones. You'd recognize that Global Warming is a hoax, always has been and you'd be working to debunk that every day. You'd be working your ass off to raise working American's standard of living like your political life depended on it.
You'd appreciate the role that wealth creation plays in the free market and work to promote that all the time. You'd abandon socialism, communism, social justice, political correctness and progressivism and every other form of -isms that is contrary to the freedom contained in our Constitution. You'd be telling everybody within earshot what propagandists the MFM are and start calling out their lies.
But we know you will never do these things because you don't believe in them. You are worthless as an American and a danger as a progressive politician.

Well, Her Grace approved of the fried green tomatoes. This was the virgin run of the new deep frier I got her for her birthday.

We also had hash over rice, and she didn't dislike that, I'll phrase it. Now, in SC "hash" is something fairly unique. We had some Wyse's, which is not my favorite. The best to my taste is Clyde Cone's. Wyse's and Cone's are two big BBQ houses, BTW.

My mother had a WWII-era cookbook with recipes to help cooks get around gummint-imposed food rationing. Some of the recipes were pretty awful, though-- there was a "spice cake" recipe that used condensed tomato soup instead of real spices, and a "mock apple pie" recipe that used Ritz crackers in place of apple slices. We tend to forget about the many ways the war affected ordinary middle-class folks.

You'll be glad you had the cataracts removed. I had cataract surgery last July-- it's made a wonderful difference.
Posted by: Basement Cat at February 20, 2019 10:46 PM (3C9q2)

I've already noticed a tremendous improvement in my distance vision in my left eye. I'm driving without glasses for the first time in my life. I still need them for reading.

I've been nearsighted and have worn glasses since second grade. With the cataract surgery they gave me a choice: The standard lenses are covered by insurance but I will need reading glasses. The deluxe lenses would correct my vision so that I wouldn't need glasses at all, but they are not covered and would cost about $2500 per eye.

Even though I can afford the deluxe lenses, I opted for the standard ones. I'm already used to wearing glasses, and once both eyes are done I'll just have to get glasses with a different prescription.

Yup. And this is weird because I cracked a dumb joke earlier. People were talking about poisons and mentioned that succinylcholine is indetectable, but they recently devised a test for it. Gas chromatograph is involved, I think.

That and cocky Crowley did two things majorly wrong:

1) He didn't feel the need to deign to campaign, and;

2) To emphasize point 1, at one debate, Crowley sent in a Spanish-speaking stand-in, not bothering to attend himself.

I don't think Crowley's going to be getting the job back. He's an old school Queens Dem hack, an old white guy, and I think the days are over for them here in this district. But this district is also full of crazy Hispanic socialists. They'd just be replacing one loon with another.

Due to NY's population loss, my bet is they redistrict Donkey-Chompers out of a job.

419 Regarding Bon Scott's death almost 40 years ago: AC/DC made a film of them on tour called Let There Be Rock a few months before he died. I just remember Angus talking about some of their partying habits, but when the interviewer asks him about Bon he just says something to the effect that he was overdoing it so hard the rest of the band was just incredulous. It wasn't released until several months after he died, and that clip just haunted me.

Forget fake meat, cows have it going on plus the added goods they produce besides beef. Match that and we'll talk.

Same with electric cars--find an energy source that eclipses all the advantages of the internal combustion engine--IF you can.

Autonomous cars--develop an AI that can deal with the myriad of variables as quickly and intuitively as a human brain--doubt it's possible.

We should relegate all the above to the imaginary world, they have no practical use in the real one, save as adjuncts to existing systems.

"Gun Control" is me putting lead onto a 12" steel disk at 130 yards with a S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman, 4" bbl., with 148 gr., .38 Spl. full wadcutter rounds.

Sixth round, to be sure, but firing standing, double action, walked the rounds into the target from "dust" from first five misses into the ground, on a 25 mph windy day.

Holdover of about 4.5 ft., windage correction of a full 4 ft. to the right.

Not only a "hit", but dropped the target to the ground, because the "hit" was so dead-center, that it broke the wooden dowel and nylon strap fixture which held the disk to the target frame, through a 1" hole in the center of the disk.

Conversely, give me YOUR gun, and the odds are good I can put 50 rds into the "X" ring on a B-27 target at seven yards.

Don't care if you hand me a Kel Tec .32, I'll connect.

Know what I'll fail with, though?

.500 S&W.

I cannot shoot that one for fifty rounds of anything at any distance for any reason.

Five rounds, I can do. But no more than five, Vasily.

That was an outgrowth of when the bridge officers screwed up going into Pearl and ran over a sand bar. They blamed engineering for "allowing" the main condensers to silt up causing a loss of the main engines and the ship "drifted" into the sand bar. They had their sequence completely out of order. The main condensers were packed with mud scooped up from the bottom.

My understanding is that the water needed to be treated with some chemical to prevent the lead from leaching into the water from the old pipes, and apparently this was not done. So, it's not a matter of measuring pH, but understanding what kind of pipes are carrying the water.
Who is to blame? Practically speaking, possibly the engineering consultants, but I understand that their reports had sufficient weasel words to avoid culpability.
Bottom line, the city gubmint has the ultimate responsibility for the mess.

How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump

Ha! That is tff. This is the age of Wishful Thinking. The time when supposed rational and thoughtful people have given up on many American ideas.

The association of Trump to Terror is the direct association of almost half the US population to terror. If you do not think so, go to an airport. How many Progressive solid Dem voters do you see in the TSA lines? Probably not many single mothers from the bastions of Democrat voters that make up the major cities in the US. These TSA lines, cost, and burdens are just places to create process crimes against hard working middle class citizens.

People like McCabe never seem to take on real crime. The mexican cartels. MS-13 and other invader gangs. Sex trafficking and human smuggling. They are out working to find process crimes on middle class Americans.

Anne Coulter is so full of shit here.

First, she says:

... the bill prohibits Trump from using any Homeland Security funds to build a wall anywhere along the border. Only bollard fencing is permitted

At first I was disappointed these new walls going up were limited to existing types already used, until I got a good look at the beefed up versions that DHS was erecting. One, they are at a minimum 18-feet high, with five feet of steel plate to prevent climbing by hand. Some are 30-feet high and being used in dense urban areas, like Calexico, CA (but sometimes without top plate.) In addition, these barriers go 6 feet into the ground, incased in 8 feet of concrete. No one is digging a tunnel under and up one of those things without spending the better part of the day. If CBP doesn't have eyes and ears on the boarder to let that happen without catching on, then they are lacking other infrastructure besides good walls.

Yes, the concrete prototype walls looked very imposing and much more attractive than thee steel-girder "fences" but I've seen reports that each 25-foot wide cost around 400k each. Probably much higher due to being prototype construction, but I wouldn't be surprised designs with such a finished look are very costly. Compare that to the my back of the envelop cost per 25-feet of a 20 miles stretch completed in New Mexico:

$17,300
(cost of contract was $73 Million)

Btw, here is video of that section newly completed (check out at minute five standing next to the gate.):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XonPNUeLH-k

And that project was completed 5 months early. It was expected to take a year, started last April and finished in November. If they'd used one of those prototype designs, it'd probably be years to complete those 20 miles.

Back to Ann...

She says:

even that is allowed in only one small section of the border with the approval of local authorities.

Inasmuch as the "local authorities" in that particular sector are liberal Democrats and/or beholden to Mexican cartels, the bill Trump just signed effectively prohibits any barrier whatsoever from being built on the border.

Bullshit. What she doesn't say is one, this stipulation only applies to the new funds for FY19... any previous funding and money gotten from the Emergency Declaration, etc. is not affected. Further, this requirement expires. at the end of the Fiscal year. Its right there in the text of the bill...

Such consultations shall continue until September 30, 2019 (or until agreement is reached, if earlier)

And for this nonsense:

The bill also expressly prohibits the deportation of any illegal aliens who are part of a household, or thinking of becoming part of a household, that contains an "unaccompanied minor" -- i.e. any illegal alien who claims to be under 18 years old with no parent in the country.

The only scenario where that applies is when an illegal alien relative comes to pick up an unaccompanied child being held by the Feds. They'd still need to pass a background check and steady job. This provision also expires September 30th, so its hardly "Amnesty." Besides, are we even deporting this class of illegal aliens anyways? AFAIK, we are only deporting aliens with criminal records.

I'm done.

1. Fire Actor
2. Re-write entire show.

That was how egregious the offense was that Barr committed.

Funny how today's idiot leftists are actually nothing more than fundies all over again, with a total belief in the Inerrancy of their Scriptures and a terrible intolerance for anyone who dares to question their Holy Writs.

and then there are so many things wrong with that news blurb - first of all, one could easily put together a list of 1,000 PhD holders who are on food stamps because they never could find a real job (and the actual number is much higher) But of COURSE Darwin's "mechanism" was wrong, he came up with that 150 years ago when Phrenology was the latest greatest thing. No one had even thought of ideas like Punctuated Equilibrium or it's variations. Darwin's original theory was a blind first stab at a very complicated subject.
