OK, the lamb is all grown up, it has a ram's horns.
Agnus Dei, the lamb of God, is Jesus. He's bound by all four feet, but he has a calm look. There's no struggle. So this is Him going willingly to crucifixtion. Is there anything else to this? I find the image disturbing (a helpless innocent sacrifice distresses me) but the talent and technique is astonishing. I was surprised to learn that it was painted in the early 1600s. It reminds me strongly of the more realistic paintings of the Low Country artists. I did a quick check of Francisco de Zurbaran's other paintings on Wiki. They show the same level of mastery and detail and are all very effective.

Sinead O'Connor, "The Book of Life (of the Lamb)":
https://youtu.be/a6Pac-uYj6U?t=3 Posted by: Bandersnatch at February 12, 2019 09:28 AM (fuK7c) That's of course way before she converted to Islam, but already there are things that should be theologically concerning to any Christian: But if we listen to the Rasta man He can show us how it can be done To live in peace and live as one Get our names back in the book of life of the lamb As if Rastafarianism were compatible with Christianity. To think that we would leave God so lonely Most theologians would agree that God is not dependent upon his creation, including emotional dependence. The passages depicting God as cheated on by an unfaithful spouse were metaphors meant to shame the Israelites into stopping the worship of idols. A late Easter means we might actually have some green grass growing, daffodils, tulips, forsythia, pink and white buds on the trees. It's hard when Easter comes in late March and it looks like the Eve of St. Agnes out there.

That's of course way before she converted to Islam, but already there are things that should be theologically concerning to any Christian:

finding the date on which Easter falls. It's a fascinating process, and of course relies on astronomical observations. The internet was not always around. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 12, 2019 09:57 AM (KoKdw) It was (rightly) linked to Passover until the 300's. Why they decided to uproot it and put it somewhere else mystifies me. Posted by: grammie winger at February 12, 2019 10:00 AM (lwiT4) Exactly. Easter and Passover are eternally connected and should always be celebrated the same weekend. This year has it correct, coincidentally. I wouldn't be surprised to learn if Constantine had something to do with separating the two. Posted by: Kris at February 12, 2019 10:07 AM (OyyDO) 223

#199 JAS - that's the way the Catholic Church still does it.
The Eastern Orthodox (I believe) still tie theirs more closely to Passover. All these lunar-based holidays insure that sometimes we and the Orthodox celebrate Easter on the same day and sometimes a month apart. Ours always arrives first, though, no matter what. Posted by: bluebell at February 12, 2019 10:24 AM Talking about calculations, I have a huge underground oil tank. There's no gauges on the system to tell how much is remaining. You have to drop a long pole down into it then measures the inches. So the other day my wife sees me writing something down then I told her we have X number of gallons remaining. She asked, "You just figure that out yourself?" I think she wanted to be impressed by my math skills. Which I suppose I could actually do. But I confessed to looking it up on a chart online. Now of course I don't know how many people were in that arena; but you should realize that if anyone in the El Paso Fire Dep't were do admit that there were even 6501 people in that auditorium, they would be admitting that they stood by and did nothing while it was pushed to overcapacity, meaning that all of those responsible for handling the situation would be subject to departmental discipline, up to and including termination. So, since that auditorium had a legal capacity of 6500, all official records will show that it had EXACTLY 6500 people in it - not one more, and not one less. Based on the performance of my smart phone last weekend in two solid days of mostly below freezing temperatures, I have serios doubts as to the reliability of anything powered by battery (lithium ion battery, specifically) under prolonged cold conditions.
Oh! I'd forgotten that. I went to do poll surveys in New Hampshire for Decision Desk for the 2016 primaries. They gave everyone Kindle Fires with some app to do the surveying. Yeah, they froze. We resorted to paper questionnaires, like savages. Paper was actually better, easier to use than the app and facilitated interaction. But Kindles did not hold up to New Hampshire in winter. I'm a fan of EVs. But it does annoy me that every time there is discussion of EVs in the media, everyone assumes every driver lives in LA or Phoenix or Miami.
Even in cold weather, if your commute is a few miles each way to work, there's enough batter for that. Some point in the future, battery tech may get to a point where you can get 500 mile range in -20 weather. Until then, EVs won't be the right option for people who need to drive long distances in cold weather. But they're still fine for the typical commuter driving 15 miles to work each way. That's the downside of the Trump economy.
Posted by: Lurking Lurker at February 12, 2019 10:38 AM (Zq9Pe) I see it as an upside. Lazy f*ck leaves a perfectly good job that they would underperform in, because they feel they have better chances elsewhere. Which opens up the job for a more productive worker, who will: A) Be more productive, improving the economy B) Be more likely to grow in the position and be promoted, also improving the economy. And lazy f*ck still has the job mobility to find a job in which their lazy fuckery will be appropriately rewarded. In a shit economy, lazy f*ck would hang on to that job like grim death, and employer couldn't get rid of them without falling afoul of a zillion Obama-style DoL regulations. And nothing would get done. TL;DR: A good economy naturally flushes out parasites. Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 12, 2019 10:44 AM (Ct55T) 432

Vegan has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with being fat or not. In fact, a plant based diet almost ensures that you'll be fatter than someone with decent access to nutritional protein without the high simple carb load. The sick look comes from being not only low in protein but in the B vitamins.

Cut it and look at the profile - you'll see it. Trex has a cap that surrounds the inner extrusion. Pro Tip - if you really want it to look nice - hit the very end of your board with the miter saw before installing. It gives that and nice shiny look. If you don't, ground-contract water seeps in there and gives it a dull finish.

I have seen a shift in my neck of the woods. Not that long ago in the Obama depression, menial jobs were done by evil white guys. Now they've been replaced for the most part by our new and improved citizens from south of the border."
even if this is just a troll, that shift started happening here in Texas about 30 years ago. Today, the smart white boys go into the Professions, the lazy bad ones lay around and do meth and sell drugs. Not a single one of them, good or bad, under the age of 30 would dream of doing any actual physical labor. And don't get me started on how anyone else acts. People (and some news outlets) have been discussing the problems electric vehicles are having in sustained ultra-cold environments. I suppose hybrids (like the Prius) do not have these problems? (I am wondering if I should get one).
Posted by: Brunnhilde at February 12, 2019 10:31 AM (aW5/6) Darn near every taxicab in Calgary is a Prius, and it gets cold there in Winter. -36 C a few days ago. They have a gasoline engine as the prime mover. The electric part is just a means of making more efficient use of the energy from the gasoline, and it mostly works OK. It'd be an OK car, but fugly. Actually, I read it again. It was my error. You just couldn't put any organizations or clubs which you belonged to or awards you received which indicated sex, race, religion, blah, blah. I would be surprised if they hire me. I'm too old and "Pastor" is going to put off people off who aren't actually religious folks or like some of them. This application process wasn't as funny as the other one which asked if you agreed to certain statements such as, "It's o.k. to steal as long as it's not a large amount"or "It's o.k. to sell illegal drugs to people as long as it doesn't affect their work performance." I'm sure somebody could do a good parody of this sort of thing. I'm sure this question was asked 120 years ago when people were talking about gas powered cars. Where will all the gas stations and oil refineries be built? The fact is, all of the sundry subsidies have been transfers of wealth from the 'have-nots' to the 'haves'. It is morally obscene. With $2-$2.50 gas like it is now in most of the US (sorry Commiefornia) most hybrids are cheaper to run than a pure EV. That's one of many reasons Tesla is the most-shorted stock in history. Posted by: Ian S. at February 12, 2019 11:04 AM (ZGrMX) 513

china. the tesla powerwall is just the first step in a grand plan to build giant battery tankers. they're charged up in china, then driven back here where the batteries are plugged into the grid. flat batteries are shipped back across for recharging. 414 All-electric cars are simply limited by battery capacity."
Prius' are hybrids. In high load conditions (very cold or very hot) they operate on their gas engines. Posted by: Anon a mouse at February 12, 2019 10:38 AM (6qErC) I drive a hybrid (don't hate--I have a long commute). Battery capacity is noticeably diminished by the cold, by as much as 10 or 15 percent. When it's hot the capacity is diminished by the fact that the fan for the battery has to blow pretty much constantly. I make a compromise to save money on gas but sometimes that's a big compromise. (And I'm reconsidering it now that gas is more affordable). And I bailed on work after I got about a quarter of the way there and saw three pickup trucks had slid off the road in the space of 5 miles. Sorry boss, not going to risk my only car just to make it to a meeting. Posted by: joncelli of the Tribe of the Drunken Moose at February 12, 2019 11:32 AM (1FhAQ) 520
