One of the benefits of a striker fired pistol is the ease of the double action. Really, though, what is the difference between actuating the firing pin by hitting it with a hammer against a spring, or pushing it back against a spring to bounce forward?

The first "slaves" that came over to the colonies were indentured servants, however they only had a period of servitude of 5 years and were released if they completed the 5 years "honorably". And they were a combination of all races.
The 5 years of labor was supposed to pay for the cost of getting them to the colonies which was quite expensive at the time.

It was turned into a very productive silver mine, and with all that freshly smelted silver, they decided to make coins out them. I really like the PPS M2, single stack little compact sibling of the PPQ up there but for those of us with tiny flimsy effeminate paws. It feels more polished than the VP9 somehow, and despite smaller and lighter it seems faster to recover from recoil.

I own and have been carrying a Sig Sauer P229 .40. Have used it in my official job for the last 15 years. I find the Sig to be reliable, easy to carry, and accurate. I breaks down into 4 parts so cleaning is easy and quick. It is concealable and yet menacing enough to get quick result when thrust into the face of a perp. Someone above mentioned a decocker- it has that too, so one is carried in the pipe, ready to go. My $.02.

The hammer on my SCCY CPX-2 can't be cocked by thumb but only by the double action of pulling the trigger. The trigger pull is long and heavy, but I like it; it lets me carry an eleventh round of 9mm in the pipe safely. I have learned how to shoot that pistol accurately - despite the trigger.
If you use a spray cleaner on the weapon, you have to re-oil the trigger mechanism at the rear of the disassembled pistol for it to work reliably.

So far, no problems with my basic R1. And it shoots like it is possessed. I am a notoriously bad pistol shot, but this thing will put all 7 in the 4in ring at 7 yards, out of the box.

I really like the PPS M2, single stack little compact sibling of the PPQ up there but for those of us with tiny flimsy effeminate paws. It feels more polished than the VP9 somehow, and despite smaller and lighter it seems faster to recover from recoil.

I braved the snow of Snowpocalypse 2: Deadly Prey to head to the range Saturday with friends. I brought my Star BM for folks to try and my XD45, along with the usual Ruger MK IV. Didn't get the chance to spend time with SIG P250-22 this week or the Steyr M9, which I'm still evaluating for reliability.
MY Star BM shoots a little high, but I kinda like that. Fixed sights, so I'm stuck with that but the gun trucks along just fine. All metal, so that helps with the snappy JHP rounds I was using.
XD45 is very nice. Very, very nice. It's my carry gun, so it had better be.
The Ruger MK IV is growing on me. I'm getting good groups with it now, so I don't know where my previous trouble were coming from. I have to clean it regularly but.... 22LR, comes with the territory.

The Walther PPQ is also single-action only. Glocks and other striker-fired pistols have the striker partially cocked when a round is chambered. When you pull the trigger, the striker is then fully cocked and released. That contributes to their crappy out-of-the-box triggers. The PPQ's striker is fully cocked from the get-go, so you get a light, crisp, consistent release every time you pull the trigger.

I'll be honest guns kinda scare me too. Scsre isn't the right word. More like I am uncomfortable around them. But I am also the biggest 2A fan you will ever meet. I hate the idea of banning things just because I'm not into them.

I think the PPS M2 full weighs less than the VP9

I think ergonomically it is a better design (although I like my VP9), and the damned trigger (I assume it's the same as the PPQ) is awesome.

Guns are worthy of respect. And its worth mastering that fear, even for casual shooting purposes. I was scared to death of guns, as much as I liked them growing up. My family were pretty anti-gun (I'm the oddball) and it instilled a real fear of them in me.
It took a while to get used to shooting and even now, I'm never unaware of their potential. It's a good thing, fear is a gift.

155, BertG - a VP9SK is the other choice. I've rented a full size VP9 and liked it a lot But I can't find a rental VP9SK. Or a P365. I like the P365 in theory because you can reverse the mag button. Same mechanism as on a Sig P360 or SP2022.

If you're really really starting from scratch, get a .22 revolver. If you have some experience under your belt, get a Glock 17 or 19, used even. No they aren't quite perfection, but they are very, very functional and easy to use/maintain. And they will work for you until you find 'the one'.
If you have a .22 and a Glock 19 or 17, you're good to go for a long, long time.

Thanks Mark...I am pretty much starting from scratch...I have a little experience but would rather back up and do it right from Lesson 1. Also looking for a shotgun for home defense, have a nice staircase going to the second level so very defensible position!

Every gun you carry for defense needs to be ready to go. It's the reason I don't carry the Makarov or Tokarev, I don't feel comfortable with either gun with a round in the chamber.
Some people can make Israeli carry work for them, if you train a lot, you can make a lot of things work. But I suggest you keep a round in the chamber.
I've never seen a modern striker fired pistol go off without a finger on the trigger. Never. That's what the trigger safety is for. (And why you keep your finger off the trigger until the sights are on target)

I know NC is purpling up thanks to an influx of locusts , but unless you live around Charlotte or Raleigh you probably could have got away with shooting him as long as the car was parked in your yard.

As noted several times before, CZ-75 remains at top of my list. Actually the list is just that one gun, for now. Time, logistics, other hobbies/demands, pretty much make my current selection more than I have been able to exercise sufficiently.

VIA, if I hadn't invented an effective rationale for my no-more-guns,-for-now policy - "no new calibers" - I'd definitely have picked up a P-64 a year or two ago when even unissued ones were available for around $300. But I'd just added my last caliber (.380), to get a CZ-83 (actually 2, one surplus and possibly one of the last of the special production run new ones in the pipeline).
Don't carry, apart from duty days at the range, so all those considerations are sort of moot for me.

I purchased a very nice one about 5 years ago, and really wound up liking it.
Then suddenly, four more followed me home.
I was gonna tell Mrs Via.
But they just climbed into the one gun safe, snuggled down, and never made enough ruckus for me to mention them to her.

When I saw vids on youtube for "muslim community patrols" I thought it was going on Eurostan.
But this is happening in NYC, now.

safety is for. (And why you keep your finger off the trigger until the
sights are on target)

Glock, in particular, has three internal or external safety mechanisms that prevent an accidental discharge, starting with the trigger safety (one of the armorer function checks involves trying to depress the trigger without touching the smaller trigger safety). As long as the trigger guard is confined within a holster, it is nearly impossible to cause an AD/ND. Blackhawk Serpa holster being the exception. They have been banned by many LE agencies.

You mean like what my Colt Double Eagle is equipped with? That design is the Browning frame, slide and barrel with a newer double action first trigger pull to single action for remaining trigger pulls? Great design but Colt only made them for a few years: double action feels a great deal like a revolver.
