Fight The Power! Cast Off The Shackles Of The Gun Lobby!

Their clever mind-control tricks have pushed many Americans to purchase modern striker-fired pistols. Yes, they are loads of fun, and the one pictured is amazingly accurate too, no doubt because of a really, really nice trigger.

WaltherPPQ.jpg

But we are free men! we have free will! After much soul searching I have decided to move in another direction, and think for myself. I realize now that I have been a pawn of the Gun LobbyTM and the NRA.

No more!

Remington1911.jpg

Single Action for the win!

******

And because this made me laugh. But it is quite profane, so be careful!

It's amusing to me , looking at the various offerings, the lineage from John Browning is so clearly delineated.

EVERYTHING flows from that original design, it's unmistakable.

Pretty close to perfect out of the box.

8 One of the benefits of a striker fired pistol is the ease of the double action. Really, though, what is the difference between actuating the firing pin by hitting it with a hammer against a spring, or pushing it back against a spring to bounce forward?

What the world really needs is a decocker/safety. That is what advancing really looks like.

10 This is fantastic -- Virginia Governor Coonman somehow manages to stick his foot even further down his throat, though that seemed impossible. And yet:

The first "slaves" that came over to the colonies were indentured servants, however they only had a period of servitude of 5 years and were released if they completed the 5 years "honorably". And they were a combination of all races.

The 5 years of labor was supposed to pay for the cost of getting them to the colonies which was quite expensive at the time.

Many American immigrants, mostly European, DID arrive as indentured servants, going back to the 1600s. That's how bad they wanted to get here. And of course, to this day we still have some immigrant indentures.

Interesting real trivia:

There was a medieval town in Bohemia then called Joachimsthal where, around 1500AD, they discovered silver ore in a cave. It was turned into a very productive silver mine, and with all that freshly smelted silver, they decided to make coins out them. These coins quickly gained a reputation for being the highest quality and being made of the purest silver, so they were dubbed "coins from Joachimsthal" or (in German) "Joachimsthaler" coins, starting in 1516.

Because they were so desirable, they spread all over Europe and were known as the standard by which all other silver coins were measured (back then, it was hard to tell the purity of each coin, and many were made from degraded metals).

As the Joachimsthaler spread throughout Europe and even around the world, its name was shortened and the "Joachim" part was dropped, and after a while they were just called "thalers." Which in German has a hard T, so is pronounced "tollars."

Over time, as people from many lands used the word, the pronunciation shifted from tollar to dollar. By the late 1700s, when the US wanted a new currency to replace the British pound, they sought out the unit of currency with the best reputation, and settled on using the thaler, which by then had had its spelling changed to dollar.

And the rest is history.

Now I see why the British press is embargoing news from the Yellow Jacket protests in France:

A mother was arrested in front of her children and locked up for seven hours after referring to a transgender woman as a man online.

Three officers detained Kate Scottow at her home before quizzing her at a police station about an argument with an activist on Twitter over so-called 'deadnaming'. The 38-year-old, from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, had her photograph, DNA and fingerprints taken and remains under investigation.

More than two months after her arrest on December 1, she has had neither her mobile phone or laptop returned, which she says is hampering her studies for a Masters in forensic psychology.

By then, the Spanish were making "thalers" as well, so you are correct -- as am I. By the late 1700s, "dollar/taler/thaler" had become a generic name for a type of large pure silver coin, made by many nations, including Spain (who made them breakable into 8 pieces).

101 Couple things I noticed about AOC GND, besides the absurdity and economic ignorance.

First, it reads like a junior term paper that somebody waited all semester to start, then dashed it off in one night.

Second, it's just the usual potpourri of all the leftist peace-and-justice blah blah demands, same stuff they've been chanting for 40 years. They throw a bone to every one of their little constituencies (e.g., indigenous people, unions it's like watching one of their standard cookie-cutter marches strut by.

One big question is: Who Is The Author? Was it AOC? I'd like a "reporter" to get a definite answer to that.

Other questions: Why did so many seemingly mature adult male Dems sign on to it? Didn't they read it before endorsing it? Do they really believe it? Why do they think America wants a Ten Year Plan to Remake Our Entire Society? Do they really believe there is some credible cataclysmic threat that can be met in only this way? If so, why didn't they prepare a careful, detailed, genuine analysis, instead of a D- term paper/random wishlist?

Our political class understands that the public doesn't respond to anything other than crisis. Ergo, everything they want needs to be a response to some manufactured crisis.
What's really pissing them off is the public's ability to see through their bullshit. They demand action on a manufactured crisis while ignoring actual ones, while the deplorables want action on a more sane priority list.

Long story short: D- term paper/random wishlist disguised as existential crisis has more emotional appeal, nevermind if it would work or what it would cost.

114 The hammer on my SCCY CPX-2 can't be cocked by thumb but only by the double action of pulling the trigger. The trigger pull is long and heavy, but I like it; it lets me carry an eleventh round of 9mm in the pipe safely. I have learned how to shoot that pistol accurately - despite the trigger.

If you use a spray cleaner on the weapon, you have to re-oil the trigger mechanism at the rear of the disassembled pistol for it to work reliably.

I braved the snow of Snowpocalypse 2: Deadly Prey to head to the range Saturday with friends. I brought my Star BM for folks to try and my XD45, along with the usual Ruger MK IV. Didn't get the chance to spend time with SIG P250-22 this week or the Steyr M9, which I'm still evaluating for reliability.

MY Star BM shoots a little high, but I kinda like that. Fixed sights, so I'm stuck with that but the gun trucks along just fine. All metal, so that helps with the snappy JHP rounds I was using.

XD45 is very nice. Very, very nice. It's my carry gun, so it had better be.

The Ruger MK IV is growing on me. I'm getting good groups with it now, so I don't know where my previous trouble were coming from. I have to clean it regularly but.... 22LR, comes with the territory.

150 The Walther PPQ is also single-action only. Glocks and other striker-fired pistols have the striker partially cocked when a round is chambered. When you pull the trigger, the striker is then fully cocked and released. That contributes to their crappy out-of-the-box triggers. The PPQ's striker is fully cocked from the get-go, so you get a light, crisp, consistent release every time you pull the trigger.

That's the one possible downside of the PPQ...it's ridiculously light, so the recoil from 230 grain rounds is noticeable.

But it's also ridiculously accurate, so I really have no complaints.

It's going to hurt, but 3.5in slugs in 12ga would probably suffice for now. Until they up-armor the robots. Then we'll have to upgrade to steel slugs made at home because TPTB will ban the manufacture thereof.

Then HE filled titanium slugs.
Then run for the corn and pray.

If you're really really starting from scratch, get a .22 revolver. If you have some experience under your belt, get a Glock 17 or 19, used even. No they aren't quite perfection, but they are very, very functional and easy to use/maintain. And they will work for you until you find 'the one'.

If you have a .22 and a Glock 19 or 17, you're good to go for a long, long time.

199 someone mentioned not feeling comfortable carrying a round in the chamber. if you are going to carry, you need to have your weapon ready to go, ready to use without a moment's hesitation. There may not be time to pull the slide back and bring it up to aim-

My recommendation. Get a pistol that has a decocker. As I mentioned above, I have carried a Sig 229 for 15 years in this manner. IT HAS NEVER GONE OFF (without me pulling the trigger )

There was a store clerk at a local mall where I live who carried a small .38. he didn't maintain his weapon or keep one in the chamber. he attempted to shoot a guy with an AK who had shot up the mall. the gun went click and the shooter responded with a blast. The clerk took a 7.62 in the gut. he is a paraplegic now, but alive, I guess. mall shooter later surrendered.

food for thought.

Posted by: IllTemperedCur at February 10, 2019 02:47 PM (eXA4G)

202 Every gun you carry for defense needs to be ready to go. It's the reason I don't carry the Makarov or Tokarev, I don't feel comfortable with either gun with a round in the chamber.

Some people can make Israeli carry work for them, if you train a lot, you can make a lot of things work. But I suggest you keep a round in the chamber.

I've never seen a modern striker fired pistol go off without a finger on the trigger. Never. That's what the trigger safety is for. (And why you keep your finger off the trigger until the sights are on target)

Shotguns are the kings of social situations. But they are not easy. But if you train with them, they work very well. I will say they are heavy, awkward to reload until you learn tricks and the recoil of a 12 gauge is nothing to sneer at. It makes a .45 look like a kitten.

Start with the .22 revolver and a Glock 17. If at all possible, save up for some bulk ammo (online retailers like ammoseek or sgammo will save you a ton vs buying in stores) and take a one or two day training class. There should be some in NC well worth taking. Check with your local gun range or ping me via the email on my site if you'd like help finding instructors near you.

214 VIA, if I hadn't invented an effective rationale for my no-more-guns,-for-now policy - "no new calibers" - I'd definitely have picked up a P-64 a year or two ago when even unissued ones were available for around $300. But I'd just added my last caliber (.380), to get a CZ-83 (actually 2, one surplus and possibly one of the last of the special production run new ones in the pipeline).

Don't carry, apart from duty days at the range, so all those considerations are sort of moot for me.

Glock, in particular, has three internal or external safety mechanisms that prevent an accidental discharge, starting with the trigger safety (one of the armorer function checks involves trying to depress the trigger without touching the smaller trigger safety). As long as the trigger guard is confined within a holster, it is nearly impossible to cause an AD/ND. Blackhawk Serpa holster being the exception. They have been banned by many LE agencies.

You mean like what my Colt Double Eagle is equipped with?
