Yep. The 1980s were a great time for them too and I'm not talking about Arnie or Stallone flicks. Lots of great b movies. A forgotten pair seems to be the 48 Hours flicks with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte. The second one was pretty violent, moreso than the first one if memory serves.

On the one hand, I fully support sticking it to the SJWs who keep trying to crap on everything I like.
On the other hand, I'm really tired of Hollywood rebooting and making increasingly bland and boring sequels to popular movies until all life and money has been extracted from the franchise.
I really don't like being put in the position of feeling like I actively have to support something that probably isn't going to be good on it's own merits just to stick it to the SJWs.

Because they cribbed some philosophical concepts that went over well, the directors from the Matrix mistakenly thought they were genius writers, which quickly ruined the sequels.
The John Wick sequel kept the focus on the gun porn. And the next one looks to do the same.

Yeah, I hear ya! Fawn Liebowitz was the date Otter was supposed to have in the movie Animal House, but she died the week before in a kiln explosion while making pottery. Glad they never tried to make a remake or sequel to that movie, I don't think it can be done, too non-PC for today.

Ghostbusters (2016) if you have its world wide gross vs. its production budget looks like it made a modest profit. In truth that PB is probably low and does not include marketing, and the world wide budget is inflated. The film likely lost some money for its producers or at best broke even.

It wasn't a laugh-out-loud comedy but it was a fun adventure with good cinematography and music and good world-building. I liked the idea of a building made of exotic metals to act as an antenna into the otherworld. Neat premise.
The music is really great. In the teaser, that ominous cue is immortal.

It wasn't a laugh-out-loud comedy but it was a fun adventure with good cinematography and music and good world-building. I liked the idea of a building made of exotic metals to act as an antenna into the otherworld. Neat premise.
The music is really great. In the teaser, that ominous cue is immortal.

Yup, it's a good revenge movie. Loved that Wick shot the son mid-sentence - who cares what you have to say about stealing my car, you're already dead?

First of all, the production budget does not include P and A, prints and advertising, which is usually the same as the production budget. So the actual cost of the movie is 2x the production budget.
Second of all, the studio does not keep anywhere near all of the money the film earned at theaters. The theaters take a cut too! Although it varies, the usual estimate of how much of the box office the distributor actually takes is 60%.
So no, Ghostbusters did not make money.
One last thing: Even if a movie makes a tiny amount of money, that's effectively a loss, because people could have made a better rate of return in any number of much-safer investments, but instead sunk their money into a movie for three years waiting for it to finally produce. "Making money" really has to be considered in comparison to just putting that same investment into a money market or something. If the movie has a lower payoff than that, then you really lost money.

What made John Wick good was finally paying attention to what real
gun work is supposed to look like. Even down to the right amount of
bullets per gun/rifle. Not like those other movies where the good guy

I loved the original Ghostbusters when I was kid. About a year ago I watched it for the first time in 30 years. I think I laughed once.
When it was made the special effects were awesome which I think was the big draw.

Funny you should say that. When the original GB film came out, the theme song did remind me of Huey's "Heart of Rock 'n' Roll."
That said, I grinned from ear to ear at the trailer and its quick peek of Ecto-1. (The original vehicle still existed in 2014; I saw it on a tour of the former MGM Studios.) And the music even sounded right.
The important thing the film needs to have is a real, credible threat -- some real danger. If it's just something about a giant chicken that wants to peck NYC to death, then no. Sure, I'm aware that a Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man is in the same territory. But the original handled it right.

To make money for the studio, a movie has to make over twice what it's budget is. The budget includes everything and everybody that went into making the final cut of the movie. All the promotional and advertising is on top of that, and the studio doesn't get to keep every ticket dollar, they have to share that with the theater owners, and that is on a sliding scale. The studio gets the lions share of the first week, and then less each additional week it is in the theaters.
Everybody who worked on the 2016 Ghostbusters got a nice paycheck, but the studio took it in the shorts.

I watched a film by Luis Bunuel when I was I kid (on PBS or whatever they called it back then). Los Olvidados. The only thing I remember about it was they threw some kids body in the dump at the end. Very uplifting. /s

It was a good movie for sure. How it became this artistic treasure I can guess at. People who remember it as one of their first movies certainly saw movies go downhill since. But even in 1984. Was Romancing the Stone not more fun? Was Amadeus not a better work of art? In the end, it is all about taste. The original Ghostbusters was a modern classic no doubt.
Did I just change my mind in the same paragraph?

A lot of pain meds.
Had a cracked rib, others bruised, and pulmonary embolism at the same time. More than once I thought "this is it..."
Then the meds would kick in...

We need to stop shaming women who refuse to succumb to stereotypical gender norms-women have every right to embrace their body hair. Gloriously, the first month of the new year has been dubbed "Januhairy," an ongoing celebration on social media encouraging women to grow out and show off their body hair.
If they thought women really wanted to show off their body hair they'd hold this event in the summer not in the winter when women are wearing heavy clothing.
