1 Good Morning Morons today is Sunday, December 23, 2018. On this day in 1913 the Federal Reserve Act was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson, creating the Federal Reserve System. This was, and still is a huge mistake, but Hell it was passed when the communists had a majority in both houses and a communist President. But it has been 100 years or more and Republicans have never made an effort to undo this POS.

6 OH governor Katshit has vetoed a bill passed by the Republican legislature which had an easing of gun regulations and funding for first responders because at the last minute the legislature added a big pay raise for themselves. He also was against easing OH's gun regulations. I somehow doubt he gave a shit about the pay raise.

Some
of use are old enough to remember when our teachers in the 1970s told
us of the impending Ice Age. They also told us that the US was now
metric so get used to it. A year or so later they stopped talking about
metric an the "next ice age". But like normals, and unlike now, they did
not try to force global warming on us either, they let it die.

Maybe
global warming is a thing, the issue has become so politicized that it
is almost impossible to hear any proponent without a lot of skepticism.
These people politicized the issue and marginalized themselves. If man
is truly causing a catostrophe, I would think some smart people with no
agenda would be proving this to all.

I think it was Rush who
first brought up the idea of watermelons. Watermelons are leftists who
are green on the outside and red on the inside. The idea is that when
the Soviet Union fell, pinko Americans who hated capitalism needed a new
schtick. They were reds, but they cloaked their anti capitalism in
green. If the Commies could not take down America, the greenies could by
saying capitalism is destroying the earth.

I am open to proof
that global warming is real and man is causing it by building things.
But the issue needs to be de politicized, the fake news has to end and
people need to bring verifiable facts to the table without other
agendas.

That is why government project funding does not create job. With prevailing wages you have to hire the best person for the project to get it done on time. So you hire someone already working. Private enterprise usually will not replace this person unless it is 100% critical. And they will never hire a new person, maybe just move someone up!
Even B Hussein admitted that there were no new shovel ready jobs.

At a certain point it no longer becomes profitable to explore for new sources. I think we're there right now.

So supply and demand takes over. If the frackers have to pay higher interest on money they borrow, on top of low net return, it's a prescription for eventual supply disaster.

67 This is hypothetical-ish.

Let's say I have a $10 coupon and it's good till March, we'll say. I go to the store, buy a $30 gift, use my $10 coupon, give them $20 and go on my merry little way.

A couple days later, I find out my aunt already has says item I bought. I take the item back, and they give me back...$20.

I guess my question/argument is: isn't the purpose of a return to make you equal to where you were before you purchased the item? Well, before I purchased the item, I had a $10 coupon to use, and now I don't. I can understand them not wanting to give $30 to someone who spent $20 BUT.

Wouldn't the ideal thing to do be refund $20 and give them another $10 coupon to use? And, if that's not possible, then refunding $30 is the other option. I am handing them back a $30 item, they should hand me $30.

Honestly, they are just shooting themselves in the foot, because with that $10 coupon, I would have come back to their store and bought something else. And, now I won't.

Am I being reasonable/making sense?

True of oil, gold, and pretty much all commodities. I remember seeing turned off oil rigs in Texas back in the day. There was oil there and the rigs were there, but if the price was not right, they just turned them off, it wasn't worth the effort. Same with gold. There are gold mines that only pay off if the price is right.

I was in an industry dependent on a product produced in the 94% efficiency range. Small fluctuations in supply created huge price swings.

Oil refining is a similar industry. A little too much and the price plummets, a little shortfall and the price skyrockets. They can't just throw a switch on an oil refinery and shut it down for a few weeks. Their only tool seems to be price.

Was watching a presentation about electric grid problems in Australia. An aluminum plant lost power for three hours and was destroyed. I guess stuff cooled down and funged it all up.

83 Australian Workers Union Victorian vice president Ben Davis said the power outage was "unprecedented".

"It's something that's never happened before, and aluminium smelters are not built to have power outages," he said.

"Their need for power is such that they have to be constantly running, they have to keep the liquid alumina hot.

"So when the power goes off, that's incredibly serious."

85 Oil refining is a similar industry. A little too much and the price plummets, a little shortfall and the price skyrockets. They can't just throw a switch on an oil refinery and shut it down for a few weeks. Their only tool seems to be price.

we have something like 56 diff regional blends. Go to a single regular and cost could drop another 10% on efficiency.

I worked at a candy factory. If the power went out for more then 10 minutes, the mass mix would start cooling and everything would have to be dismantled to clean it out. That would take about 2 hours.
They worked with the power company and got another line installed. The worst that would happen is there would be about a 2 second outage. Power would switch over and then the computers for the lines would need to be restarted.

Some economists are saying there is the possibility of deflation due to falling energy prices.

I think it is more likely that the Fed is trying to block the roaring economy that Trump made possible with his massive deregulation efforts.

Simply can't allow the plebs to see that Trump actually knows what to do to kick start the economy so they have to reign it in and destroy his progress.

Posted by: Molly k. at December 23, 2018 06:43 AM (TLDbD)

The IRS rate for a car is based on the average overall cost of the car over a ten year period, gas, insurance, maintenance, etc. which according to AAA is close to 76 cents per mile for a medium size car. So you are getting no "good deal' from the IRS.

The funny thing about Europe is that they will take masses from the Third World, usually former colonies. But just try moving there as an American long term and working without a hook up from a major corporation. See what happens. The EU is way harder to move to as an American than the other way. And it IS hard for EU types to move here legally.

As John 'suspend my campaign' McCain proved, recession in the middle of a presidential campaign is not a good thing. So perhaps having one now and getting it over with decreases the odds of it occurring again one and a half years from now.

There's probably some historical 'average' months between them and I'm sure it's a helluva lot more then 24 months.

So the leftists should be screaming from the rooftops that the Fed is actually helping Trump out.

You'd have to cover a couple of acres with panels to be able to run your house, and a 2000 sq ft building to hold enough batteries to get you thru the night. Solar farms are a big scam in Georgia. They are covering thousands of acres with panels (probably subsidized) that will need constant maintenenace and replacement, and tie-in to the grid. 164 AOC has a point about the Congresspeople getting paid during a shutdown. It shouldn't happen.

Wasn't AOC bitching nearly a month ago that she doesn't have enough money to afford to live in DC?

Suddenly all of that whining stopped and now she is talking about how Congress Critters shouldn't even be paid while there is this "shutdown".

Did she strike oil or win a lottery no one knows about?

165 One other point about solar....

The average asphalt shingle roof lasts 15 to 20 years, so even with a 25 year warranty on panel power output, at some point your entire system will have to be ripped out to replace your roof.

166 Most of the gov workers are not even being furloughed. These shutdowns are always a lie. They close a few departments and send a few people home, making sure the MFM is on hand with cameras to show "poor workers' leaving. When in fact it is only a small percentage of workers getting another free paid vacation. And Obama was the worst, closed the Washington Mall just so it would inconvenience a few tourists who had spent money to visit Washington and the cameras would be handy.

When all of this solar panel shit started the published life expectancy of a solar panel was 10 years. If you lived on the best location in the country with the highest electricity costs you were lucky to recoup their cost before they failed. (Southern CA)

Fundraisers for church activities or small scholarships, ushering at masses, surprising a retiree and fixing up their house or doing needed yard work too difficult for the homeowner to do any more. Oh, and each year, securing and setting up a Christmas tree.

Yeah, the Knights of Columbus are flat out deviants, destroying the core of society, the antithesis of the Constitution. Was one for years, and that was the terrible stuff we did, and obviously warped any sense of fairness or legality in my thinking. As are all Knights. /s

Man seeks a Higher Power. Theirs is power through Government and it is a never-ending loop of cognitive dissonance, discord and enemy-seeking.

While the media feeds into that loop, the American People see through the sheer idiocy and continue to see themselves as individuals.

243 67 This is hypothetical-ish.

Forget it. You do like I did. I announced one Christmas that I didn't want gifts from anyone the next Christmas. And in return, don't expect any from me. They agreed.

They liked it so well that gift giving is out for everyone except the kids. Kids get a Santa Clause.

247 That jackass doxing GoFundMe wall contributors is a great example of why we're beyond the point of setting things with the first, and proper, box.
