I went to a Catholic service tonight, and the priest mentioned the incident. It happened in a small Michigan community, and it was a young priest. The priest at the service tonight was heartbroken by what happened and horrified, since the job of a priest is to comfort the grieving. He also mentioned that none of use know what plagued the poor person who took his life.
As it turns out, the Archdioceses of Detroit apologized, and the priest asked us to pray for all families who are dealing with heartbreak over the holiday season due to death and illness.

Actually, natural gas (from fracking) is getting so cheap that older coal - fired power plants and a lot of older nuke plants are too expensive to operate in comparison.
The last power unit at 3 Mile Island is shutting down for economic reasons. It just costs too much to keep running.
Fracking producing cheap natural gas may stop the "nuclear renaissance" for a few decades.

I've known a couple of families who've lost sons to suicide. It's an awful thing to go through, and I could see them over-reacting to pretty much anything anyone says. One of the families was very upset because the newspaper reported their son's death as a probable suicide. The newspaper needed to give an explanation because the death occurred in a public place with witnesses. It had to be reported as accurately as possible.
The parents were just devastated.

It's not bad. Gets pretty engrossing. It's not perfect, but better than 90% of the shit on tv. It's got a fair amount of Anglo Saxon, Frankish and Viking history, though used fictionally and not always in the correct period... but enough to render it interesting historically. Give it a shot.

My Mom was like that. Her next oldest sibling was 19 years older than her.
Her answer to the who did it thing was to punish everybody unless someone fessed up. She had 4 of us within 6 years, so this was very effective.

I live in a predominately Amish area and have the opportunity to attend Amish church service, primarlily for weddings. You'd think they'd be strict, but they aren't. The women and men sit sepeartated, if an infant is acting up they'll get up and pass from one parent to the other, walking the kid outside if necessary. When, older kids get restless, they'll go outside and play with each other and then call me back and sit down. Much more casual than you would expect.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) - A foster parent in Muncie is facing serious charges after allegedly molesting two of the six children in his care.
Jaython Patterson was arrested over the weekend.
According to court documents, Patterson claims he was trying to teach the 7- and 8-year-old boys how to masturbate properly while he was also pleasuring himself.
He's also accused of showing the boys a pornographic video of him and his husband.
Patterson has been charged with child molestation and vicarious sexual gratification.
DCS has since removed all six children from their home.

Well, it's not quite that simple. Although I guess it is.
She is married, but she lives separately from the husband. She told me they were almost completely legally divorced and sold me a whole sob story about how she's all alone with her 4 (!!!!) cats and blah blah blah.
Turns out that she and her ex (??) husband are still trying to work things out. Oh, and she's got a boyfriend from Chicago who comes out and visits regularly. Oh, and she's on Tinder picking up guys.
So... yeah. Oops.
Not that there were no red flags there, but... Yeah. Extricated myself from that situation as soon as I realized what was going on.

So she lives an hour away from the husband, hasn't worn a ring in months, and I know her socially. From everything I heard, she was almost legally divorced, and single, and lonely.
AND she knew my long term girlfriend and I broke up several months ago, and went through mutual friends to set up a first date with me.
There was no sneaking around or suspicion of anything. She told me ex-husband already had a new girlfriend living in the home.
idk, in retrospect, sure.
But whatever.
Not a big deal, she was just one of the girls I've been hanging out with.
Just a bummer that she lied -- we've been friends for years.

But I just learned something disturbing. Did you know that all Intel modern CPU chips have one of hell of a backdoor built into them all?

It is embedded in the chipset. It's a tiny system on a chip consisting of 32-bit x86 CPU running the MINIX OS. It's completely hidden from the user and runs all the time there is power to the motherboard, and that is standy-by power. When you think the system is off, the ME is still running.
Intel claims it's no backdoor, but the thing has its own dedicated path to the Ethernet controller(s) on the motherboard with its own MAC address. It can intercept packets, sending and receiving without the main system even knowing about it.
I'm sure Bob@NSA had a little input in the design of this thing.
And AMD has something similar. Of course. The ME has full access to all of the system, memory, PCIe crap, hard drives, etc, etc. It can even take over the main CPU and the OS won't even know it. Well, it might realize that something interrupted it for a time if it was looking (there were bugs in the original SMM stuff, I remember, where System Management mode interrupts messed up OS function from interrupting it).
Anyway, you can be assured that Bob@NSA can totally take over just about any computer he wants.

Well, if I am reading this situation right, Harry did not have any idea what was going on until after the fact. When he found out, he got out. Seems like the right call.
People are usually pretty easy to read unless they are a woman I am having sex with- or want to have sex with. Then she becomes a cipher which is unsolvable. So I cannot exactly beat the guy up for not picking up any warning signals- I would not have either.

Baked mac n cheese is the yummiest. Make sure there is lots of grated cheddar on top, to get well melted and browned. Browned cheddar is awesome.

Agreed. A dusting of bread crumbs with small pats of butter would make it even better.
I would use elbow macaroni or ziti. Everyone wants the pieces near the edge of the baking dish because of the extra texture you get on the pasta.

That's entirely up to your taste buds. I'm not a big fan of fontina, but I'm not the one eating it. Butter adds the texture to the sharp cheddar and the bread crumbs add that nice texture to the entire casserole/pie.

If you ever doubted that we've been to the Moon, I can arrange for you to take a wee excursion out to Van Horn, TX.
Where we will witness a qualified astrophysicist engage a high powered laser, fired at a precise set of coordinates on the moon's surface.
This is where one of the later Apollo missions (15 or 16 IIRC), left a set of reflectors aimed back at the Earth, for exactly this reason.
That laser beam will shoot TO the moon, and return TO the Van Horn site, in a very precise measure of time, which calculates exactly to the distance from the Earth to the Moon, and Back.
To the millisecond.
This "experiment" is conducted several times per year.
You can Bing or *spit* Google this to confirm it's veracity, too.
And countless HAM radio types have confirmed, from Apollo 11 onward, that all those missions flew exactly as described. They had all the azimuths and trajectories nailed down as to signal path, delays and orbital windows and obstructions.
Their math proved impeccably precise, in each and every measure.

Peterson is dead on. I had a predominately male factory. One gutsy woman wanted to run a tough piece of equipment. The pay was much higher - probably twice what she was making. So I trained her, held her hand, and she did okay. Some physical aspects of the job that required muscles she did piss poorly at. After about six months she told me she didn't want to run the equipment any more. She was pregnant. The only reason she wanted to run it was to save up money to get pregnant, have another kid, and become a stay at home mom.
So as employer, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. The feminists want to have their cake and eat it too. Nice in theory, reality is something different.

Farming can be an unforgiving profession. Lots of machinery moving around, and lots of maintenance.
One of my students, in 3rd grade, was life-flighted to a major metro hospital after helping his dad on the ranch, and having a bad accident. He's OK now, but it was close. Another 8 year old was killed by the same type of accident two months later.
And the paper reports at least one farmer a month dying in an overturned tractor, of while clearing a blockage in a combine.

I was in Worldgate, a fancy health club in Herndon, VA. In the mens-only hot tub after a swim.

Take the Boston case you describe, the BTA is completely unionized, all union outfits have developed, follow and adhere to occupation/Wage schedules.
So if you have an occupation of electrician you are paid according to the wage schedule, there is not a separate schedule for men and woman.
So any disparities are due solely with the individuals interest in wanting to earn more through over-time or other elective ways in which to earn more.

Not agitating for anything. The women who work in this field, and are successful, do so because they genuinely want to and are mechanically inclined enough to do well. Not all women are. Not all men are. I don't think anyone, male or female, should be prodded into pursuing a career they are neither interested in nor would do well at for the sake of "social equity ". I would do really, really poorly as an administrator or program manager or executive assistant. I'm probably the most un-organized person on the planet, plus the thought of dressing up every day gives me the sadz. I've worked with guys who couldn't drill a straight hole or shoot a decent rivet if their lives depended on it. It's all in what you're good at and comfortable with.
