This law is one of those “sensible restrictions” on gun ownership that liberals like to talk about but that criminals will ignore as the judge who ruled the law constitutional says that despite the asterisk put next to the Second Amendment by the court assures us there is nothing to worry about: The law, signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in June along with five other new gun laws, gave New Jersey gun owners who currently possess the magazines in question 180 days to either surrender them, permanently modify them to only accept up to 10 rounds, or transfer them to somebody who is allowed to legally own them. The deadline is set to expire on Monday. A lawsuit brought by the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs and supported by the National Rifle Association failed on Thursday as the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals declared the confiscation law constitutional. Any civilian caught in possession of a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds may be arrested and prosecuted. Possession of such magazines after the deadline will be considered a crime of the fourth degree under state law and carry up to 18 months in prison and up to $10,000 in fines or both. Hey, it isn't Yoko............ DUH!!! Having sex may be one way older adults can feel better and enjoy life more, suggests a new paper published in the journal Sexual Medicine. “The general conception is that older adults are not as sexually active as younger adults, or not sexually active at all,” says study co-author Lee Smith, a reader in epidemiology at Anglia Ruskin University in the U.K. “Sexual activity does decline as we age, but older adults are not asexual.” In fact, other recent research found that many American seniors have active sex lives; 40% of the people surveyed, who were between age 65 and 80, said they were having sex. So, you want us to stop using fossil fuels. What are we supposed to use? Solar, wind? What do you need to have to build those power sources? If we want to stop climate change, we’ll have to stop pumping out carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In order to do that, we’ll need to replace all the sources of carbon pollution—like fossil fuel plants and combustion vehicles—with clean, renewable alternatives. But there’s a problem: According to a new study, we might not have enough materials to make that happen. Plenty of high-tech electronic components, like solar panels, rechargeable batteries, and complex circuits, require specific rare metals. These can include magnetic neodymium, electronic indium, and silver, along with lesser-known metals like praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium. These metals are mined in large quantities in countries around the world, and they make their way into the supply chains of all sorts of electronics and renewables companies Meet a marginalised writer,” and an “artist and influencer,No it's not Bill Kristol but Mr Roy G Guzmán, My heart was a dystopian berry budding in water tiger lilies claiming hocus-pocus wonder. So, a personal update to the story about the priest who lectured the family of a suicide victim and was quite awful overall to the surviving family members.
I went to a Catholic service tonight, and the priest mentioned the incident. It happened in a small Michigan community, and it was a young priest. The priest at the service tonight was heartbroken by what happened and horrified, since the job of a priest is to comfort the grieving. He also mentioned that none of use know what plagued the poor person who took his life. As it turns out, the Archdioceses of Detroit apologized, and the priest asked us to pray for all families who are dealing with heartbreak over the holiday season due to death and illness. Semi-willowed: The homily the priest said at the Mass for the suicide, which the family interrupted and objected to, is available. https://tinyurl.com/ybjkw933 I read it and found it very balanced and hopeful of His mercy for the dead. It acknowledged that suicide was morally wrong, but didn't say the deceased had sinned or was damned. I think the family wanted a "celebration of life" or assurances that he was in heaven. Speaking of real butter, I found a great recipe for scrambled eggs recently.
Key findings: to make it extra good and rich, add an "extra yolk" (I guess that means to first remove the egg white/liquid), use half and half, bring the heat down once the solidification begins, and add the butter at the *very* end. Posted by: qdpsteve at December 17, 2018 10:15 PM (miE9U) 64

Nuclear power plants or shut the hell up.
Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop Actually, natural gas (from fracking) is getting so cheap that older coal - fired power plants and a lot of older nuke plants are too expensive to operate in comparison. The last power unit at 3 Mile Island is shutting down for economic reasons. It just costs too much to keep running. The newspaper needed to give an explanation because the death occurred in a public place with witnesses. It had to be reported as accurately as possible. The parents were just devastated. The thing you get by studying Russian history is that they have always been a mess- and/or used as a litter box by various assholes. Posted by: Aetius451AD ------ It was the funniest thing. I used to listen to a lot of International Russian Radio, and they had this re-occuring segment, "Great Moments in Russian History". The same radio guy would interview a history professor each time. And it was meant to be a light-hearted, happy-talk segment. So an Americaqn version would feature Kitty Hawk, or how Mount Rushmore was created. A "heavy" segment might be how Jackie Robinson broke the color line. But the Russian stuff was always wars, plagues and natural disasters. Tens of thousands dying. Yet still, a great moment in russian history. And just when you thought it would change - tonight we're celebrating the great conductor Yuri's 4th Symphony - it would be followed up with the info - which commemorates the Battle of Kursk in 1211, in which 15,000 Russians were slaughtered at the hands of invading Cossacks. Hadrian, thank you for the link to the homily. I read it. I found nothing objectionable. (Full disclosure, Catholic by birth, 12 years Catholic school, now an evangelical but with much respect to the RCC)
I know the parents are grieving and in shock so I cut them some slack for what I think was a fine homily. If they wanted to celebrate his life as opposed to having a religious ceremony, well that's what the wake is for. I speak as a parent who buried a child (accidental death, not a suicide). My husband and I asked our minister to lay it on the line 'cause for some of our son's friends this was the only time they were gonna hear the Truth. Religious funeral rites are formal responses to the mystery of mortality. The more touchy-feely-personal they are, the more I dislike them. Imagine a Viking funeral --- solemn business. The homely is right and true. He did not talk down the memory of the dead. He talked of hope and gods endless love. A Catholic funeral is a mass. Not a tribute to the dead or the ones who morn. The mass is for worshipping god. Not about the congregation. The priest did nothing wrong or in any way out of line.

I was acting up in church, so my dad took me out in the lobby and gave me a talking to. As we re-entered the sanctuary I squalled out like he had whipped me to embarrass him. Posted by: NCKate AMEN. That homily was inspired, uplifting, full of mercy and compassion. Simply beautiful, and nothing AT ALL like what the parents supposedly described for the microphones. I know those parents are in grief and shock, but they are also rampaging against everyone in sight, and have already collected two scalps in their frenzy to lash out (with the eager help of the media). Their reaction does them no favors in terms of healing -- they are just amplifying their own rage at their son for killing himself. I'm a firm believer boys need an ass beating now and then. Mumsey Dearest would get pissed off at her boss, get a snoot-full of liquor and burst into my room while I was minding my own business and start whipping me with a big thick brown belt. Left me with huge welps on my legs. This happened every couple of weeks. She never showed any remorse or sadness about it either. Methinks she may have overdone it, just a bit. Mr Roy G Guzman, whose tweet appears below, describes himself as "a marginalised writer," and an "artist and influencer," thereby signalling to lower beings both his suffering and his modesty. He's also, it seems, a tad sensitive. As talent-deprived as he appears to be, he should stick to blowing margins if he wishes to continue to use the honorific "marginalised". You'd think they'd be strict, but they aren't. The women and men sit sepeartated, if an infant is acting up they'll get up and pass from one parent to the other, walking the kid outside if necessary. When, older kids get restless, they'll go outside and play with each other and then call me back and sit down. Much more casual than you would expect. MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) - A foster parent in Muncie is facing serious charges after allegedly molesting two of the six children in his care. Jaython Patterson was arrested over the weekend. According to court documents, Patterson claims he was trying to teach the 7- and 8-year-old boys how to masturbate properly while he was also pleasuring himself. He's also accused of showing the boys a pornographic video of him and his husband. Patterson has been charged with child molestation and vicarious sexual gratification. She told me they were almost completely legally divorced and sold me a whole sob story about how she's all alone with her 4 (!!!!) cats and blah blah blah. Turns out that she and her ex (??) husband are still trying to work things out. Oh, and she's got a boyfriend from Chicago who comes out and visits regularly. Oh, and she's on Tinder picking up guys. Womens will lie from time to time. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at December 18, 2018 01:04 AM (ZREC2) Six months? yikes. My thing with her was measured in weeks, not months. Not a ton of emotional attachment. I'm not broken up about it, I'm just bummed that someone I thought was a friend & professional colleague lied to me so blatantly. But not a big deal. Hi all, my arthritis is sort of acting up and thus I'm not exactly running on all 8 cylinders. But I just learned something disturbing. Did you know that all Intel modern CPU chips have one of hell of a backdoor built into them all? It's called the Intel Management Engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Intel_Management_Engine Remove line feed. It is embedded in the chipset. It's a tiny system on a chip consisting of 32-bit x86 CPU running the MINIX OS. It's completely hidden from the user and runs all the time there is power to the motherboard, and that is standy-by power. When you think the system is off, the ME is still running. Intel claims it's no backdoor, but the thing has its own dedicated path to the Ethernet controller(s) on the motherboard with its own MAC address. It can intercept packets, sending and receiving without the main system even knowing about it. I'm sure Bob@NSA had a little input in the design of this thing. And AMD has something similar. Of course. The ME has full access to all of the system, memory, PCIe crap, hard drives, etc, etc. It can even take over the main CPU and the OS won't even know it. Well, it might realize that something interrupted it for a time if it was looking (there were bugs in the original SMM stuff, I remember, where System Management mode interrupts messed up OS function from interrupting it). Anyway, you can be assured that Bob@NSA can totally take over just about any computer he wants. Posted by: publius, the Duke of Miley's Ficus at December 18, 2018 01:10 AM (f1Vqw) 514
I recall the leader of an environmentalist organization back in the 60s advocating for nuclear power.
His reasoning was that if a nuclear power plant suffered a melt-down they were located near areas of dense human habitation and would just kill a lot of people. Whereas hydroelectric dams destroyed wilderness habitat for critters and hiking trails for the Eurotrash. His logic was impeccable. Posted by: Waepnedmann at December 18, 2018 01:10 AM (5NBJB) 515

I enjoy listening to the comedian Owen Benjamin. His conversion from "Progressivism" to Conservatism is a Faithful one.
He eschewed the Hollywood scene for a more peaceful, bucolic and thoughtful lifestyle. His recent bent on us never going to the moon is confusing to me because I've always taken it for granted. I have done no research on it, so I have no freaking clue. I only know what I've been told. I don't know whether to worry about the dude a little or if he's actually right. Slap. If you ever doubted that we've been to the Moon, I can arrange for you to take a wee excursion out to Van Horn, TX. Where we will witness a qualified astrophysicist engage a high powered laser, fired at a precise set of coordinates on the moon's surface. This is where one of the later Apollo missions (15 or 16 IIRC), left a set of reflectors aimed back at the Earth, for exactly this reason. That laser beam will shoot TO the moon, and return TO the Van Horn site, in a very precise measure of time, which calculates exactly to the distance from the Earth to the Moon, and Back. To the millisecond. This "experiment" is conducted several times per year. You can Bing or *spit* Google this to confirm it's veracity, too. And countless HAM radio types have confirmed, from Apollo 11 onward, that all those missions flew exactly as described. They had all the azimuths and trajectories nailed down as to signal path, delays and orbital windows and obstructions. Their math proved impeccably precise, in each and every measure. The doubters? Jordon Peterson routinely talks about the Scandanavian experience with "leveling the playing fields" and egalitarian social policies which show that left to their own devices, the inherent differences in interest and temperament of men and women will express themselves by men doing and being drawn to male centered occupations and women being drawn to female occupations.
Go figure. Posted by: Kreplach at December 18, 2018 06:07 AM Peterson is dead on. I had a predominately male factory. One gutsy woman wanted to run a tough piece of equipment. The pay was much higher - probably twice what she was making. So I trained her, held her hand, and she did okay. Some physical aspects of the job that required muscles she did piss poorly at. After about six months she told me she didn't want to run the equipment any more. She was pregnant. The only reason she wanted to run it was to save up money to get pregnant, have another kid, and become a stay at home mom. So as employer, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. The feminists want to have their cake and eat it too. Nice in theory, reality is something different. Posted by: Newest Nic at December 18, 2018 06:24 AM (jYje5) 679

Farming can be an unforgiving profession. Lots of machinery moving around, and lots of maintenance. One of my students, in 3rd grade, was life-flighted to a major metro hospital after helping his dad on the ranch, and having a bad accident. He's OK now, but it was close. Another 8 year old was killed by the same type of accident two months later. And the paper reports at least one farmer a month dying in an overturned tractor, of while clearing a blockage in a combine. Posted by: NaCly Dog at December 18, 2018 06:29 AM (hyuyC) 683

Story time.
I was in Worldgate, a fancy health club in Herndon, VA. In the mens-only hot tub after a swim. A very well dressed woman (think Republican mother of four) came from the direction of the showers. Which meant she had to walk through the entire length of the men's locker room. Being a gentleman, solely by act of Congress, I stood up and asked her if she needed help. A quick glance my way, a return to eyes front, and she walked out of the locker room by the pool entrance just beyond the hot tub. Without a word. Wage disparity is scam on par with climate change. Take the Boston case you describe, the BTA is completely unionized, all union outfits have developed, follow and adhere to occupation/Wage schedules. So if you have an occupation of electrician you are paid according to the wage schedule, there is not a separate schedule for men and woman. So any disparities are due solely with the individuals interest in wanting to earn more through over-time or other elective ways in which to earn more. That's fantastic but you're an outlier, given unlimited opportunity, a vanishingly minute number of women would exhibit the desire or inclination to become sheet metal mechanics as men would be to become workers at a daycare center for children. Now why should social policy be such that would push more women to be sheet metal mechanics and men to become day care workers? The women who work in this field, and are successful, do so because they genuinely want to and are mechanically inclined enough to do well. Not all women are. Not all men are. I don't think anyone, male or female, should be prodded into pursuing a career they are neither interested in nor would do well at for the sake of "social equity ". I would do really, really poorly as an administrator or program manager or executive assistant. I'm probably the most un-organized person on the planet, plus the thought of dressing up every day gives me the sadz. Schools in Brighton have been ordered to teach children as young as eight that people "of all genders" can have periods
__________________ Has the "Party of Science" explained how that happens, because "transgender females," who are biological males, don't have a uterus or ovaries (which control menstruation), and the hormones that the so-called doctors give these patients don't magically cause these people to suddenly grow the necessary equipment to menstruate. I always draw the rage from Off the Grid folks, who use items made with Petroleum products and/or shipped by trucks and Trains to get to them. For instance one proud off the gridder was saying they use a big five hundred gallon plastic tank to transport and store water in, 8 lbs a gallon, 500 gallons is 4,000 lbs or 2 tons of water. They haul it in once a month by their 1 ton truck, using diesel to transport it, where it was pumped by an electric pump where they got the water from. That is not off the grid I say and they go ballistic, saying they are not using anything on the grid to get it.The other is Solar panels, which are made with/of petroleum products, transported to them as they are installed and wear out by trucks/trains.They say they have a large bank of batteries for night time use.Batteries, you mean hazardous material, lead and acid?Their windmill is metal and fashioned by a shop that uses electricity on the grid to make and repair.I told them everything you use is made from on the grid material and manufacturing even the plastic buckets you feed and water your stock with along with the feed. They say NO we are not plugged up to the grid!I say, YES you are unless you are using wood, pottery and stone age tools and manual power.I am then quickly banned and shunned.Facts are it takes electric power and products to make solar and it takes petroleum to make them and ship them.Solar is the suns way of saying TANSTAAFL.
