I really wish you would have told the "What are you going to do to take care of us?" audience member in the URichmond debate in '92 to grow up and fend for himself. You blew the election right there.

Christmas parade appearance with Svout troop this morning, then donate blood and off to Sussex County to close our other place.

The blood bank solicitor was especially obnoxious earlier this week as she kept pressing me to donate whole blood cells, a process which takes 2x longer and is dialysis-like in set up. I kept saying no until finally (and fed up) I said, "Look, I will donate a pint of whole blood, period. If you keep pushing me, against my constantly expressed wishes to the contrary, to donate red blood cells, this conversation is over. Now, what'll it be?"

I suppose, in SE PA or over in NJ, but I have no direct knowledge of one.

She was continually pushing back with, "Well, WHY don't you want to donate whole red blood cells? Do you know your donation would help three people rather than just one? Give me a reason."

My reason was, "I don't want to undergo that process", but that was not acceptable to Solicitor Vampira. So I will make known my preference, again, and in writing, at the center this PM.

I looked at my tangled web of Christmas tree lights recently. They're about forty years old, some of the bulbs burned out. Went to Lowe's to get some LED's. There's a chart in the area that said for a seven to eight foot tree recommended 1,200 lights. I bought two strands of 250 bulbs. Only needed one.

They were on sale for $15.00 per strand. I think I did okay.

Not full-on mean, really, just very very no-nonsense) felt sorry for me when she read my chart and saw my 9 lb monster baby. Haha)

I do get why they have a minimum weight requirement for donation. It's just a bummer it works out that way bc I'm not afraid of needles, I don't do anything risky, and my blood is fine, so I'd be happy to donate if I could.

220 So that Dallas woman cop who shot dead a guy because she thought he was in her apartment (it was his apartment) has been indicted for murder, and some of the commenters on Insty's site seem to think this is a racial thing (the victim was black, the female cop was white).

Here are the publicly-known facts as reported in various publications to date:

The woman lived in an apartment building where all the apartments basically look the same. She was coming home after a long shift one night, and she accidentally went to the wrong floor of the building. Her story is that she approached what she thought was her apartment, saw the door ajar, drew her gun, entered the apartment, saw a man standing in silhouette against the window, shouted orders at him that he ignored, then shot him by the window. She turned on the lights, realized it was not her apartment, called in the shooting.

Neighbors in the apartment building told cops they heard the woman banging on the man's door and demanding to be let in just before the shooting. Apartment residents say the front doors of the apartments have strong springs that cause the doors to automatically close if not held open, so that the doors can't stand ajar on their own. The apt. building hallway was well lit, and the man had a bright red entry rug in front of his door, which should have alerted the cop that it was not her apartment (she had no rug by her own door). The crime scene photos show a half-eaten bowl of cereal and milk, w/spoon, on the ottoman in the living room (suggesting the man had been sitting on the couch eating cereal (presumably with the lights on), before setting down the bowl and getting up to answer the door). The man's body was found by the door, not by the window where the cop claims he was standing when she shot him.

I don't know if the cop was tired, angry, drunk, inattentive, or something more sinister, but she appears to have shot dead a guy who was doing nothing but sitting in his own apartment eating cereal. His only mistake was getting up to answer the door when the cop started banging on it and demanding to be let in. She told a pack of lies to the investigating officers, which not only shows consciousness of guilt, but also makes one wonder what else she may have been lying about (as in, did she really go to that floor by mistake?)

Anyway, we'll presumably find out at the trial what else (if anything) the prosecutors have on her, but at this point I'm not at all troubled by the fact that she has been indicted for murder.

This morning's WSJ has a leaked story from somewhere high up in the IC, likely the CIA or someone with direct access to CIA analysis (just reading the article), because the first paragraph is:

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent at least 11 messages to his closest advisor, who oversaw the team that killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi, in the
hours before and after the journalist's death in October, according to a
highly classified CIA assessment.

Yes, comrade citizen, your betters have decided you do not even need to be consulted when they make a decision in your best interest!

254 > Bless you. Being a blood donor is no walk in the park. Being a recipient is no fun either, but I think the donors have it worse.

I fainted on the table the last time I gave. They told me not to come back, because apparently that caused a wave of fainters, kind of like yawning...

255 So...were these 1 millions copies donated counted as bought? If so, then this best seller rating was rigged bigly.

256 I'm trying to decide whether to fly my flag at half-mast today. I know I'm supposed to, but my opinion of the Bush family has soured greatly in recent years.

I'd rather commemorate a President of the United States, not a Leader of the Deep State.

258 RIP GHWB. With his passing, I assume there will now be endless pundits and various Bushes interviewed on how much they don't want the Trumps at their patriarch's service.

Thank you, I was completely blanking on her name. So glad she and her family are okay. It sounds like the area is a huge mess but there don't seem to be many injuries/fatalities, which is great.

My aunt said the lights went out just before everything started falling of the walls. One of her friends still didn't have power hours later and *that* is likely to be a problem at this time of year. Clean up in winter temps is going to add complexity.

260 What's the over/under Michelle gets a Grammy for the audio book? I say she gets it, just like Barack got one for one of his memoirs.

261 I'll think of GHWB as one of the few politician veterans that served with honor in WW II...

but, just for today, I'll not think of the rest of his actions.

262 IIRC, it was announced that 1 million books were being donated to schools for young girls to read and be inspired blah blah blah.

______________

Inspire them to do what? Change their skin color (if they're white) or lie about being black so they too can get into a prestigious school as an affirmative action admit, despite not being otherwise qualified?

Or flunk the Illinois bar exam? Or use your husband or your daddy's political connections to get 6-figure, do-nothing jobs (after you've been fired from your job as a junior associate lawyer because you couldn't do the work competently)?

Other than marry somebody more talented than herself, what has this woman ever done that some little girl should want to emulate?

Posted by: TrivialPursuer at December 01, 2018 08:53 AM (fqUgw)

263 GHW Bush.

Hand Salute. He ran Gulf War I with no net charge to taxpayers.

I had my differences with him, but overall, not as bad as others. A better pilot and a better man than a politician.

I tried to donate blood once, but they wouldn't let me because I didn't weigh enough based on my height. Guess they thought I'd faint, too.

267 Mad Cow Disease in the UK, and my service in Europe in the '80s, let to me being denied as a blood donor.

I wonder if that policy has been revised?

Posted by: NaCly Dog at December 01, 2018 08:58 AM (hyuyC)

268 Looks like more that 3 months in the UK between 1980-1996 is still a restriction on blood donation.

This included deployed Naval Forces in the 6th Fleet.

I guess it is a form of science, just not as I know it.

269 251 I will refrain, mostly, from making any comments on ghwb other than what is written into this sentence.

............

Yup, on Bush #1, and what is the excitement you are predicting?

Oblahblah comes out? Muleears is cuffed, arraigned, convicted, and gets to room with Bulger's last cell mate? Lyin Ryan announces he is a demoncrat?
