2 Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, November 25, 2018. On this date in 1758 during the French and Indian War British forces captured Fort Duquesne from French control. Later, Fort Pitt was built nearby and grew into what is now Pittsburgh.

5 Paris is burning and residents are still rioting over Frances new 'fuel tax' which was enacted to get people off of AGW scam gasoline CO2 and to convert to shitty electric cars. After a little research I found that gas prices in Paris are 1.58 Euros/gal which is $1.79 in US dollars. That is actually cheaper than it is here.

And thanks to out fake Republican legislature our gas tax will be going up every year for the next 10 years. When Nikki Haley was gov they tried to ram that shit through three times and she vetoed it every time.

Too much math this morning. To discover the equivalent in US dollars per gallon you have to determine the number of liters per gallon, then convert the euro (something which can change by the minute) into dollar equivalents.

But it's safe to say it's around $7.00 per gallon. Now if the rioting continues the euro will plummet in relation to the US dollar and it will *appear* as if their fuel costs are dropping. Not really, the dollar is gaining value.

You take someone earning $30,000 a year, put them on the dole with benefits now costing the government $30,000 a year -- that's a damn good incentive to keep them working. Even if you could raise some money with higher gas taxes you'll lose it to higher deadbeats/people who the math of working no longer makes good financial sense.

But Socialists have never understood Economics 101. Or Accounting 101.

When I was a kid one of my many part-time jobs was working this little assembly line where a huge drum of product was used. My job was to put little bottles on the beginning of the line. Bottles would run down the conveyor, be filled, then someone else would drop a cap on, then someone else ran a fancy screwdriver to tighten the cap. We'd run something like a couple hundred bottles of one label, then switch to a different label, lather, rinse, repeat for a bunch of hours.

Same exact product in every bottle.

I imagine anyone buying a 55 gallon drum of lube is doing the same scam, re-branding the same product under various names. Mark it up 300% and you can make some nice coin.

________________

Not sure I agree with that. I read some reviews on some solar garden lights yesterday (looking to replace mine), and the first 10 or so on one product sounded like they were all written by the same person, who had a tenuous grasp of English (at best). All the reviews used the same adjectives to describe the product, they all used the same (incorrect) grammar, and they were all highly complimentary of the product manufacturer's customer service. It appears that some of these Chinese manufacturers have people (employees?) submit multiple reviews of their own product, always 5-star of course.

Don't bother. It doesn't tell you anything but does list two websites that will 'analyze' the review and tell you if it is fake or not.

Reminds me of the carnival guy at the county fair that had an IBM punch card sorter that would 'analyze' your hand writing. You signed your name on a punch card, and it was 'processed' through the machine, and you got your analysis on another card. I think it cost a buck to see the machine sort punch cards.

185 The way you can tell if your gas tax money is being spent on roads and infrastructure. Look at where the money is allocated. If it goes into the "general fund" the way most gas tax dollars do it is most certainly not going to roads and infrastructure.

And when the roads start deteriorating of course they scream for more gas taxes and licensing fees.

I find Amazon reviews worthwhile. First, take a look at the rating. If four or five star ratings equal more then 75%, it's probably a good product. Some people love to bitch about any and everything -- no news there.

Sometimes there are some good tips about using the product. Do's and do nots. Also, look at the total number of ratings. You're taking a huge chance if there aren't many of them.

I'd throw in to read some of the low ratings. Oftentimes, there's a common complaint, and you can judge whether it's a dealbreaker for you.

And make sure the reviews are for the actual product, and not some variation. I was reading reviews of a snowblower the other day, and found references to features that the snowblower didn't have. Looking closer, they were reviews for different models. And I couldn't find the option to limit it to just the model I was looking at.

It's all about the packing. After my mom died, her sister in California asked me to send her an antique oil lamp that had belonged to their parents.

I disassembled it and packed each part in a separate box with lots of cushioning. I then packed each box inside a large box with still more cushioning. It arrived in perfect condition.

UPS could have drop-kicked that sucker out of a 747 and it would have landed intact.

I want the IRS all up in her $120 million net worth, vineyards, non-union workers etc. See what they find. Maybe it's nothing! In which case, check again. Maybe they missed something. Assess a couple million dollars in penalties just in case. You can always drop them later if you want.

The IRS is a tool for beating political opponents until they give up and go out of business or submit. That's what I learned during the last administration. So staff it with the most wide-eyed frothing supporters there are and just give them carte blanche to ruin the enemy. I'd hate for them to think we don't care enough to do that.

261 Greetings, fellow Morons!

It is a wonderful day, isn't it?

I'm still in the afterglow of yesterday's delicious Buckeye romp all over the Skunk Bears. Perhaps the icing on the cake was the fact that Fox already had the graphic cued up showing just how much Harbaugh sucks against Ohio State.

Such was my state of bliss, I didn't mind the fact that the Spartans looked like ass against Rutgers. Our defense is brilliant, but has any team ever been so devoid of offensive punch? The amazing thing is that we won any games of all, let alone finished 7-5. If we could have reliably scored 21 points this year, we'd be undefeated. Crazy.

Key takeaway: Jim Harbaugh is not a good coach. He cannot win the big game or defeat a decent opponent. He has a winning record because he leads the second-richest football program and regularly brings in top ten-rated recruiting classes. He then uses these to pound mediocre opponents but fails against peers and near-peers.

Amazon will send you 'as a purchaser of xxx, can you answer this question ... ' when somebody posts a question on a product. Perchance the purchased it. Or perchance Amazon thought they did. Or perchance they were perusing the product and saw your question. At least it was an honest answer

I get sent 'will a 'xxx' TV work with this mount?' questions, since I bought a wall mount from them. It's a very versatile mount, but I'm often tempted to answer 'Probably, but since I don't have a 'xxx' TV, I don't know for sure!'

---
I try to avoid politics, particularly on the weekend, but I will point out that this is exactly NOT what people voted for.

They voted for the candidate on the ballot. That's what they voted for.

Now the candidate may have lied to them, but that's another issue. Candidates that piss off their voters often lose the next race.

A lot of the voters this fall chose to make a change because they felt the GOP congresscritter was a lying do-nothing turd. So they fired 'em. And if the new congresscritter is a lying do-nothing turd, they may repeat the process.

The press and the pundits like to act as though each vote was cast with total, absolute conviction and that an electoral majority translates 100 percent into "I will stake my life on everything this candidate believes in."

It's just not true. Michigan swung blue because the GOP ran crappy candidates and our two-term governor is as popular as herpes. We had two US House seats flip because one was open and the other was held by an empty suit. Yeah, the Dems poured money into them, but what are they supposed to do?

If the new occupants go hard left, they'll be out of a job because that's how these things work.

And candidates that do right by their voters often win. Saw an item over on Insty saying that Puerto Rican votes--generally assumed to be Dem-- might have put Scott over the top in the Senate race. Because he went out of his way to see that PR residents displaced by Hurricane Maria got the information and services they needed.
