Yes. Pull it off the charger, make dinner, sit down to eat and read and the charge is now at 80%. Wife's doing the same thing. Mine is a 2017 model and her's is a 2014.

I'm angling toward it having something to do with Windows 10, given how many Windows applications that apparently automatically run themselves in the background (like Photo, Skype, and Cortana) are all listed as "Suspended" in Task Manager. But I'm not completely certain that it's the update that's at fault.

We're just south of Houston and had to scrape the windshield yesterday morning because of frost. Weather app today said it was 37 degrees at nearly 9:30 this morning. At least I'm missing the snow my friends from Missouri are sending pictures of.

I don't think they stay together to keep up appearances. I believe there are two reasons why they stayed married. First, Hillary thought being married to Bill would help her win the election. Obviously it didn't.
Legally they are better off married because it is illegal for a spouse to have to testify in Court against their spouse. I'm sure Bill and Hillary know a lot about each other. Marriage means they will never have to testify under oath in a Court of Law about what the other did.

I live out in the woods; my internet speed occasionally gets all the way up to the 1.5 mpbs we pay for, but not often. It hovers just below one, as a rule.

This storm took everyone by surprise. It was just supposed to snow about an inch in the morning and then change over to rain. It didn't start changing over until late afternoon, by which time 3-4" of snow had accumulated.
Accuweather is still calling for it to warm up and change to rain during the night, so hopefully most of it will be gone in the morning.

they are banking the whole PGE is responsible thing from the report that they saw a short in a line near where the fire started.
But, if a fire started, then burned down a pole, the lines often melt together, causing a short... which is then detected.

I found out my 17-year-old nephew, Chase, is joining the Army when he graduates high school. He wants the training, the skills and thinks the GI Bill sounds like a good deal.
I'm so proud of him. Of course me and my mom (his grandmother) are also a bit worried about him. But oh man, I think he's gonna be okay, both as a person and career-wise. :-)

Not sure how it applies now, but in the early 70's when a lot of my buddies were getting draft numbers, a bunch of buddies and I enlisted. Best thing I ever did. He'll be ok and come back a better, stronger person.

Interesting take. I thought one of the most interesting points of the article was that Schultz or Watterson could have helped the comic strip survive the decline of publishing. I never thought Charlie Brown was funny or that interesting. I loved the specials. I think the merchandise and the specials are more popular than the comics.

Why? Because almost every other comic strip was either an old-fashioned joke factory (Nancy), or a low-budget-looking action-violence movie in storyboard form (Steve Canyon).
In Peanuts, all you had were these plainly drawn children, in a plainly drawn setting, discussing things like philosophy... yearnings... depression... emotions... failure... all the "big topics."
It wasn't just about the punchlines, although Schulz did try to deliver on those as well, at least some of the time.

A hiker caught a video of some kids flicking matches prior to the massive burn in the adjacent Smokey Mountain Nat'l Park where the fires started and they actually ID'd the "kids" (16 and 17 years old).

I grew up in Chicago. Snow was mostly a heavy PITA you had to shovel or snowblow. Other than that, it was just something that happened on days ending in Y in the Winter.
I'm now in Atl, which means snow is a day or two off work.

Atlanta is taking a stand against puppy mills by banning dog and cat sales at pet shops.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed legislation Wednesday banning the sales in the city. The law wouldn't affect licensed breeders, only pet stores that sell dogs and cats.

JELL-O Edible Slime stretches and feels firm if you squeeze it, but will also pour and drip like a liquid. The Unicorn Slime has a strawberry flavor, so after the kids are done playing with it, they can eat it.

16 and 17 years old. We had been on a state wide burn ban for 3 months because it hadn't rained in 5 or 6 months. They were in a somewhat remote part of the Smokies an hour to hour and a half drive from their residences.
There was no doubt in my mind they were there to set fires.
Those fires killed a lot of people. I was pretty sick about the DA not doing jack-squat about it, but he balked saying that it was federal land, so they had the jurisdiction.

I've made many GIFs over the years, mostly small and few frames, using my own software. Just recently, I used gif.com and created a GIF from the video of Hillary bus crashing in the parking garage. (Link in nic. Run to see it ICYMI)
That site didn't ask me about re-sizing or frames per second or any other mod, just "from here to here" in the video, and zap. I was surprised how big the final file was.
So, I think a lot of modern GIFs are made that way, big size, many frames, and so long load times. Many could be better.

I work with a couple of Turkish officers, and they are very proud of their history. The Turkish government invests quite a bit of money into former Ottoman countries to maintain monuments and such.

Cherry Py runs on the server. It only creates the page that is sent to your browser. To speed posts up, Minx would have to use javascript or iframes to create a thumbnail/gallery type thing for images and videos.

Many's the time I've regaled the Horde with the tale of Aunt Lilly (a hunting buddy's great aunt) who'd get up around 0400 and start cooking our breakfast. The heavenly smell would get us up, no alarm needed.
It was a big ol' table so full of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, coffee and our previous day's rabbit fried up like chicken. We ate like we'd be walking in fields all day long. Damn, that lady could cook.

Then they shipped out another judge on appeal who overturned the original judge on an even shadier conflict-of-interest justification (he had been evacuated lime everyone else in the middle of the state).

Now I have another question. I was looking at a recipe for Cajun fried chicken. You mix the dry spices and a few drops of hot sauce and spread them over the cut-up chicken pieces. They can sit in the fridge for a day, to penetrate the meat. Then this recipe says to place those pieces into a fresh bowl and pour a cup of buttermilk over them. Then take them out of the buttermilk, place in a new bowl and toss with flour.
My question is this - what's the point of essentially rinsing them in buttermilk?

I do chicken into flour (nekkid), then into egg/buttermilk dredge, back in the flour then into the frying pan.
Usually with just some salt, black and white pepper in the flour to taste.

Bertram, I had a Roy Rogers lunch box. Roy and Dale were on the lid and Nellie Belle the jeep was on the other side.
But Steve Canyon was a really cool comic strip along with The Phantom. My favorite was Prince Valiant: Viking ships, King Arthur, swords and axes, and Aleta was a hottie. Also, Prince Valiant had by far the best art work, especially the Sunday paper ones in color. That was some serious, detailed illustration.

I admit it goes way back. I got bullied and my parents' way of dealing with it, rather than teaching me to fight back, was to teach me to be avoidant.
So when I graduated HS and all the other kids got to go to Grad Night at Disneyland... my parents told me no, you can't go. (Didn't help that my crush in my senior year, who hated my guts, loved Disneyland and was going.)
Interestingly, since then, for whatever reason, whenever anyone in my family goes to DL, I don't get invited. Don't ask me why, my name just never comes up. It's weird but it happens. Even today, my 13-year-old niece would much rather go to Knott's than Disneyland. (Although I admit she's told me she'll go with me to either one, someday.)
Anyway, I admit a lot of it is leftover bitterness about high school and being unpopular with women. I know it's not rational.

I recently had that problem with my phone. Would run very hot and go through charge absurdly fast. It turned out to be the MoviePass app. Since it had become useless I uninstalled it, even though my subscription was supposed to be through the end of this month.
Lo and behold, after a reboot my phone was fixed. I t was expecting to need a new phone, something I can ill afford right now, even if I settled for something that wouldn't an upgrade.
So review the apps you've installed on the Fire and consider uninstalling them one by one on a temporary basis to see if any of them have gone rogue. Check to see if any updates are pending first, since the problem may be known and corrected in a newer version.

The area of Malibu that just burned up is hills with tall dry grass, and narrow canyons. Both are terrible places to be in a fire, and those hills are especially fire prone. They burn fairly regularly.
Within the next year or two, torrential rains will hit the burnt areas, that will cause horrific mudslides. Happens every time after a bad fire season.

If you are still here:
All of these devices have the same problem. LiOH batteries have a set number of charges/discharges before they start getting weak and go out entirely. My original Samsung Gal Tab III has the same problem. If I use it I have to have it continuously plugged in. My new 8" Samsun has the same problem now, but it has just started getting weaker.
But the real crappy thing is that even though the batteries are considered "consumables" there is no way to change them without totally dismantling the device down to scratch. So these devices have a built in use life and then fail.
And that should be unacceptable in a device that costs around $300. But you had best back up all your files to your computer before it fails completely. Then you can restore them to a new device and start over.

For years I mowed by push mower, got exercise but took a couple of hours. Now with my JD, I can finish it off in less than an hour. Also good at blowing leaves. The dealer told me not to by a mulching mower because they plug up when your mowing wet grass/leaves. So I just run over them, blow them into a row and mulch with the 20 year old Toro mulcher. I had a riding mower for the 3 acres and would mulch all the leaves, much to Her Majesty's disgust. This is my No-Music Friday, where I don't listen to any of my music, work on my playlists, look for new things to acquire or even touch a CD.
It came about because I found out, rather to my surprise, that the Catholic Friday-fast-and-abstinence rule wasn't abolished, just modified. Some other act of penance can be substituted. And, living on the Gulf Coast, seafood is so delicious that eating it is no act of atonement. But not listening to my music is.

Bought a Hitachi blower this fall, really nice. Sounds like a chainsaw, because it has a trigger which reeves up the motor, will blow just about anything around.

Since they're inviting the poor third-world foreigners here, they are going to be responsible for providing for them financially. And if they commit crimes, they are going to be responsible for that too. They must financially compensate the victims, and if the victim(s) is/are dead, they must compensate the family. I think property taxes are truly evil! It is confiscation of wealth, not income. Once you pay off a house you should own it free and clear. Property taxes may not seem like much but 3% taxes mean the government is making you buy back the house from them every 20 to 24 years!

For me, moving in the middle of a fourth grade only had the problem that the new school was full of idiots, I was bused because the presence of a White Male among illegal aliens and Cushites was supposed to dramatically drive up their academic and culture life.
I ended up skipping a few grades because of the mismatch. So a 4th grader among an unknown crowd of 6th graders. Socially difficult.
Moved again, without warning to the opposite side of the country after Sophomore year. New people, totally different culture - same age difference. I was legally able to drive after graduating.
And yes, I am messed up misanthropic malcontent. I ended up running a computer department at a Dallas engineering firm two days after HS graduation.
I blame it on no matter where I go to school, I'm surrounded by cretins and mouth breathers. All the cool kids were home schooled or went to private school.
The mere fact that someone condemns their children to government schooling should be a sign of prima facia evidence of child-abuse or have the notoriety of a scarlet letter.
If the kids were properly home-schooled, which would give them a huge head-start over the other reprobates in their age group, it wouldn't matter where the parents lived.

I went to to six different schools during grade school, junior high and high school. I changed schools right before my senior year. The hardest transition was into 9th grade jr high - not knowing anyone at that age was awkward.
I moved twice after that, in sophomore year and senior year. It was a smooth transitions, and I managed to become HS valedictorian.
I really wouldn't sweat it. Kids adapt. My granddaughter switched from public school to charter school last year. She cried for two weeks, and now she absolutely loves it.

Well, then, I guess I qualify for one because we did homeschool our daughter for several years, but when I suddenly lost my job and both of us had to go back to work (because the job I got after that paid less than half what I made before), we had to put her in the local public school. We looked into Catholic school but none would take her because of her disability (autism). I guess we're just scummy child abusers too, eh?
