We might not like it, I don't like it, but that's reality. Posted by: JackStraw at November 16, 2018 11:17 AM (/tuJf) Jack is correct. One of the things Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan's new democrat governor beat her opponent, AG Bill Schuette with was his joining in the lawsuit of numerous states to roll back Medicaid expansion. I must have seen(despite trying to avoid local tv) 50 repeats of her commercial claiming Schuette "wanted to remove health care insurance for 450,000 working families in Michigan." Notice how the claim is always "working families", as if these are 100% made up of mom and dad and two adorable children. No. We didn't lose. The Republican Party lost because it won't fight voter fraud and just rolls over when it happens. I'm reasonably sure that they really don't want power because then they're responsible for what is done and not done. When you're not in power you can fundraise like crazy by playing on people's frustrations and fears, but if you're in power, they expect you to deliver. Hence, now they're out of power Republicans are suddenly all for funding the wall. When they were in power, they blocked funding every time. Force the courts to say that special "rights" of access are reserved for Fat Rich Corporations only. Posted by: Margarita DeVille at November 16, 2018 11:38 AM (Rxduq) Now there's an idea. Give WH press credentials to Alex Jones, and seat him right behind shorty Acosta. Some legal beagles can explain I suppose, what possible grounds there are for even a non aggressive reporter to claim right to maintain his hard pass. "your polite invitation is cancelled, give us our hard pass back". end of story imo.
Yielding to the court on this is what Trump has done with flagrant abuses by Hawaiian judges ... so I assume that precedent will continue, since he is totally compromised by an invalid special counsel and a GOPe just itching to put the globalist cabal back in as POTUS (Pence would fulfill that itch, imo) But maybe hand out new guidelines for all WH media ... any yelling of questions without being called on will mean immediate dismissal from the meeting, twice means permanent ban. Questions will be single and under thirty seconds (no filibustering, no arguing, no speechifying, no politicking). All judgements on abuses are final. And in today's news from Planet Portland, the mayor was overheard muttering that he couldn't wait for his term to be over in two years. (Portland has had a succession of one-term mayors - having to deal with a bunch of insane professional "activists" on the local level takes its toll.)
This has created a political firestorm, of course - the insane Left is demanding that the mayor (who is left-wing, but not insane) resign, so one of the several available insane left-wing politicians be put in his place. One insane former mayoral candidate posted the following thing on Twitter: The job of Portland mayor doesn't suck. It's one of the most important IN THE WORLD. Yep - you got it. One of the world's most important jobs on earth is being mayor of Portland, Oregon. This is because the insane Left thinks that Portland is a beacon and example to the world, and is one of the world's most important cities. Really. For example, we can't fix the worst highway bottleneck in Oregon by adding a freeway lane on each side for a couple of miles, because What Would The World Think If Portland Did That. That would affect Portland's Green Global Brand, which is obviously incredibly valuable to Portland's residents. Same with actually enforcing the law in Portland's festering homeless camps. One of the things that makes governance in Portland almost impossible is the belief that Portland needs to set a global example - that peasants in Bangladesh are looking to Portland as a beacon of light on how to behave. I'm in a rare non-Eeyore mood today.
Let the Dems be all crazypants whackadoodle. Either they are paving the road to their own implosion and cultural irrelevance in 10-20 years, or they are paving the road to a flat out breakup of the Union. If the breakup is peaceful, I consider that a victory condition. Go be crazypants over there and good luck to ya. I'm perfectly willing to up stakes and move if that 's the deal. And if the breakup is not peaceful, it will suck but I have faith that the "good guys" (non-collectivists) will win an armed conflict, which is also a victory condition of sorts (despite more awfulness en route to victory). So hey, whatever man. Posted by: Warai-otoko at November 16, 2018 12:03 PM (BRvh1) 343

The story attributes it to a volcano in Iceland. I am a little skeptical of that, since Iceland is part of the mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is a spreading center, and the basaltic magma there does not usually cause explosive eruptions.

It appears the results of the experiment are that no, a nation cannot exist without a peasantry. Posted by: OregonMuse. AoSHQ Thought Leader & Pants Monitor at November 16, 2018 11:48 AM (DKEDx) This isn't a new idea. There are certain intellectuals who do debates on college campuses - they used to take live questions, but they stopped that. The people in the audience asking the questions were so rambling, incoherent and beligerent, that they adopt the policy of making audience members write their questions on index cards which are then collected at the end and read and answered by the debaters. People are too narcissistic to realize when they are being rude or obtuse or taking up too much time. This is a human problem, Acosta is just an exemplar. the current 11-10 split on Judiciary will change after the 2 seat pickup by GOP.
Look Graham to go 11-8, and leave for some room for 1 no GOP vote. Real popcorn is who the Dems have to kick off. Spartacus or Diana Ross Posted by: Jonah at November 16, 2018 12:44 PM (HrSJb) 569
And it's why we needed to keep a property requirement on voting. Land-ownership is an antiquated standard, but I'de settle for net-taxpayers only.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at November 16, 2018 12:39 PM (AzW6q) Thank you, I've been arguing this for years. You pay federal taxes, you get to vote in federal elections. You don't pay taxes, are on the dole, or get a tax refund, you don't get to vote. This is so common-sensical that many judges will rule it unconstitutional. Posted by: OregonMuse. We are being ruled by men, not laws.
Evidence to that is too strong to ignore now. We should have had the hot civil war back in the 70's. But the American people discovered Xanex and Zolof. Pot has become acceptable. Too many people are too high and/or tranquilized to fight. There's generally no sense of sacrifice for doing what is right. And schools are churning out millions of little marxists every year. I'm not optimistic about this country. Posted by: Sooner at November 16, 2018 12:45 PM (Fs5vw) Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at November 16, 2018 12:45 PM (+y/Ru) 572

Max...
Max I wrote 2,000 words 25 hours ago exactly about what thoughts just ran through your head - how coincidental - later I read the same elsewhere. There is a quickening. I am forbotten for sharing it. It is bad. I spent 30 minutes and distilled it to this paltry form by removing many key points and rendering it like the other useless, futilere, repetitive arguments we make day after day (basically I sold out to the man) -- If one comes to the great negotiation table asking for X they are likely to walk away with with less. So it's not surprising the wall openly requested will be hard to procure. The Left screamed for single payer and came away with a slow walk to it. (Hmmm.. piecemeal... interesting synonym for step by step) One disparity is that, unlike Obamacare, there aren't many more extreme believable starting positions than wanting to enforce a nation's borders, or verifying citizenship to vote. This may be a fundamental disadvantage for the right in this game we are choosing to play ( that being being pinned against a wall of tradition and sanity - metaphorically speaking ). Invertebrate representatives don't help either, of course. Posted by: Jack Dorsey - on a Cruise at November 16, 2018 12:47 PM (Tr9jL) 578

370/279/264 Shadow of the Thin Man - My wife's uncle composed music for that film. David Snell. He was mostly a band leader back in the 1930s-1950s but also composed music for MGM. He wrote a song for a boxing film that Myrna Loy starred in called The Prizefighter and the Lady (1933). It was forgettable and he was a mediocre composer but my mother in law still gets checks from ASCAP for royalties. The movie The Prizefighter etc was also pretty mediocre.
