274 It's nice that Trump and Scott are ordering investigations and suing and shit. But this is reacting to a problem, not preparing for the problem. Maybe I'll re-post this in the Food Thread, but the story in the ONT about the demise of restaurant brands caught my eye, esp. re: Howard Johnsons. They have a pretty interesting history, and probably did as much to challenge/change the pallets of Americans as any culinary institution. In Jaques Pepin's autobiography, he notes his early experience as culinary director of HoJos. (Pepin turned down a position of head chef at the White House in Kennedy's admin.) Anyway, one of his successes was to devise a way to freeze French onion soup and distribute to the chain in bulk. In the late 50's, American food was deadly boring, and he and Julia Child did a lot to change that.

Re: the comments this morning about Michigan electing a Dem gov. Every 18-35 year old in Michigan showed up election day to approve legalizing marijuana, also would vote for a Dem gov, AG, and SOS that were also pro legalization.
Not to mention the Dem gov candidate pounded the Rep gov candidate, Bill Schuette, who was the current AG, and who sued to stop Obama Care from requiring Medicaid expansion. Whitmer constant ads were about how Schuette wanted to "take away health care for 500,000 Michigan working families provided by the Medicaid expansion". Add in Trumka and there you have it. A state that was almost six feet under when governed by Jennifer Granholm, was dug out and put on an upward trajectory by a business oriented republican, is now back to a Dem female governor who wants to increase taxes on individuals so seniors can pay no taxes, wants free community college for all, and an AG who will certainly fight any community that doesn't want a madrassa built in the middle of it. Can't it be shown that any time these votes are "found" that someone was guilty of at the very least negligence in their duty as an election official? Between now and the end of the year - sales - would be an excellent time for you without the four legged stool of freedom - a handgun, centerfire rifle, shotgun, and rimfire being the seat and 4 legs of the stool - to get this. Arguments about action type, caliber, etc. are ballistic masterbation until you have a core battery, ammo, training. Any gun will do if you will do. Rule 1 is Have A Gun. With training and experience you can fine tune later. If it's not too late. Have A Gun. NOW. Posted by: Some Dude at November 09, 2018 10:13 AM (He1EV) 223

What is it about the following items that is just so hard that we - the most powerful and productive country on Earth - can't figure it out?
1) Paper ballots. Period. You can count them electronically, but they're cast physically. 2) In-person voting unless you have a damn good reason you can't (actively deployed, physically unable/housebound, etc.) 3) Ink-stained fingers to prevent duplicate voting 4) Strict chain of custody with ruinous liability 5) Inherently fraud-preventing reporting methods (for example, counties must certify and release their vote totals in descending order by population) 6) Cross-verification of vote totals (say, county and state officials, state and fed officials, etc.) This isn't that damn hard. It isn't that fair elections are impossible - it is that they are undesired. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 09, 2018 10:17 AM (I2dne) 237

I think, like in the NFL with a challenge flag thrown, it comes down to the ruling on the field. We'll be able to keep the races where we still have the lead (GA Gov, FL Gov, FL Sen) but we'll lose the ones where they already manufactured enough to take the lead from us (AZ Sen, FL AG Commish). As someone said yesterday, this is a state level fight and Scott has the experience and infrastructure to do it - McSally doesn't. Plus since she's already behind she'd need to either get current votes thrown out or find a bunch of "lost" ballots in a red county.

If anyone wants to do some further research -- sometimes Moron, Attorney Andrew Branca wrote the bible on self defense law, called The Law of Self Defense. I think offer code "aoshq" still works for 10-15% off or something like that. But I think it's important for all gun owners to know the laws around this for two major reasons: 1) I'd hate to see people go to jail for murder when if they had acted slightly differently, they wouldn't have even been arrested; and 2) It makes all gun owners look bad when the headline reads "legal gun owner convicted of murder." We can't expect to get supervisory positions in deep blue precincts but volunteering or getting into the lower level bureaucracy is certainly doable. We can't act like there's free and fair elections and all we have to do is win them by convincing more people, because it's not true anymore.

Video games are sexist, mmmmkay?
This chapter focuses on expressions of technomasculinity by video game employees and how this affects production. Technomasculinity associates men with advanced computer proficiency, and it is one part of a structure of hegemonic masculinity. Using in-depth interviews of game workers, the chapter argues that male employees express technomasculinity through stories about family dynamics, education, leisure, and work. Families introduce sons to computers at early ages, and game workers reported being obsessed with video games that made them gamers and seek work in the industry. An overall sexual division of labor also informs boys' socialization into advanced computer skills needed for game production jobs. Workers negotiate aspects of their identity in relation to a heroic masculinity common in popular culture. This affects the overall working conditions of the industry. https://bit.ly/2OAlrVB Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at November 09, 2018 10:51 AM (+y/Ru) 415

BU is (was at least) a school that relied more heavily on HS GPA's then SATs.
So if you had a high GPA in high school, but mediocre SATs, you had a better shot at BU then at other "good" schools. So maybe that's why you think of it as a "back up school." Buzkashi tips:
1. The calf in a buzkashi game is normally beheaded and disemboweled and has 2 limbs cut off. It is then soaked in cold water for 24 hours before play to toughen it. 2. Though a goat is used when no calf is available, a calf is less likely to disintegrate during the game. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at November 09, 2018 10:55 AM (vOkuK) 441

Same with OH, where even though Brown won re-election the GOP won every other statewide race. Meanwhile, we lost in NV, where Trump lost in 2016. Wow, that's a real heartbreaker to lose an ineffective Junior Senator in a state we don't even need to win in 2020. AZ is disappointing because Sinema is such an odious person and it's mindblowing that so many AZ GOP voters could split their ballot with Ducey and Sinema, but Ducey won by enough that I'm not worried about Trump winning AZ. That Arizona race is important. But keep worrying about the caravan. _________________ We've already discussed it on earlier threads. What do you think we can do about it at this point? The race hasn't even been called yet. As for the caravan, Trump has done as many of us suggested weeks ago, and is now prohibiting illegal aliens caught in the U.S. from asserting asylum claims (which are usually phony, and as just used as dodges to get released into the U.S. pending hearings they don't show up for). i take that to mean they are likely worried about complications, like blood clots, and it's also possible they have her on some strong pain medication... hence needing 24/7 monitoring. another issue is that being in the hospital increases her chances of being exposed to pneumonia... they're spinning it as "good news" but if i actually liked her, i'd be worried. https://legalinsurrection.com/2018/11/ginsburg-up- and-moving-around-after-breaking-three-ribs/ Posted by: redc1c4 at November 09, 2018 11:05 AM (Dagiw) ============ It's worse than that: Broken ribs+being bedbound = high risk for atelectasis which jacks up her risk of pneumonia even more. Trump needs to use this Florida and Arizona vote stealing to implement a new executive order that for federal elections, there will be no voting by mail, no absentee ballots (except in extreme hardship cases) and that all voting is done in person, on the same day (election day) as described in the Constitution.
Put an end to all this shit now. Introduce technology that gives the results immediately at the end of the voting day. No boxes floating around in private cars or found weeks after the election. Without faith in the electoral process, this country will come apart at the seams. Posted by: Jwest at November 09, 2018 11:15 AM (/roJx) 571
