At The Late Night, Double Feature, Oh En Teeeee....

Lyrics are italicized, audience participation is bolded

Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand (on our feet!)
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear (it was gold)
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man
(He wasn't invisible, I saw him 21 times)
Then something went wrong
For Fay Wray and King Kong(They went apeshit)
They got caught in a celluloid(sexual) jam
Then at a deadly pace
It Came From (where?)Outer Space
And this is how the message ran...

(Chocolate lips!)

Rocky Horror.jpg

The Friday before Halloween, not a bad place for a Rocky Horror reference? Ahh, the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Staple of midnight showings nationwide, a little slice of Americana where teenagers (and older) would gather to throw toast at each other, fight with water pistols and scream blistering obscenities along with the dialogue of the movie in a hellish call-and-response orgy of raunchy bad taste and cheerful hedonism. Toss in the folks cosplaying as characters from the movie (especially the inevitable fat guy who insisted on wearing a garter belt, panties and a Corset Bustier instead of dressing like Eddie, the stupid fuck) and dancing the Time Warp and you had....well, I don't know what you had, but it was a lot of fun when I was a teenager, before I got old enough to realize Fridays were for drinking and getting laid. Yes, it was stupid and juvenile, but then so is adolescence. I realize what I was doing there at 15, but I've never figured out what the adults in the room were doing there. Do they even have midnight screenings of the RHPS anymore?

Dammit Janet
Hey, Janet
Yes, Brad?
I've got something to say(Then say it asshole)
Uh huh?
I really love the.(Skuh..Skuh..Skuh..8 letters, starts with s)..skillful way
You beat the other girls(WITH WIPS AND CHAINS!)
To the bride's bouquet
Oh...oh, Brad

Over At The Frankenstein Place

(Describe your pussy Janet)
In the velvet darkness
Of the blackest night
(How are your STDs?)Burning bright
(What's up you ass?)There's a guiding star
No matter what or who you are

The Time Warp

(How's your sex life Riff?)
It's astounding
(What is time like?)Time is fleeting
(What's your favorite ska band?)Madness (What does a bell do?)takes its toll
But listen closely
(For how long?)
Not for very much longer
(How many balls do you have?)
I've got to keep control

Pope Francis Decries ‘Insults’ as a Form of Homicide
Kind of a sensationalist headline, but what he's quoted as saying seem to be generally in line with Christian doctrine.

Speaking of homicide, NJ journalist dies 6 months after brutal ‘hate crime’ attack

I wonder why we haven't heard more abut this race-based hate crime? It's a mystery.

Sweet Transvestite

(There's not much call and response in the first part of this song, at least nobody did at the cinema near my house. Everyone just usually sang along with Tim Curry as he chewed enough scenery for 7 movies)

How do you do
I see you've met my faithful handyman
He's just a little brought down because
When you knocked
He thought you were the candyman
Don't get strung out by the way I look
Don't judge a book by its cover
I'm not much of a man by the light of day
But by night I'm one hell of a lover
I'm just a sweet transvestite
From Transexual, Transylvania

Sword of Damocles

(The entertainment here was watching whoever was cosplaying Rocky run around the theater chased by whoever was playing Frank.)

The Sword of Damocles is hanging over my head
And I've got the feeling someone's gonna be cutting the thread
Oh, woe is me
My life is a misery
Oh, can't you see
That I'm at the start of a pretty big downer
I woke up this morning with a start when I fell out of bed

A Better Man Never Lifted A Spade

Bodysnatching in 19th century Baltimore. No to make a sex toy like Frank in the movie (actually, I dunno what platform he built Rocky on, but it probably wasn't a dead body. Later on we see that Rocky is impervious to “a laser capable of emitting a beam of pure anti-matter” ), but for medical schools, to teach and learn anatomy in a more primitive time.

I Can Make You A Man

(What are you Frank)A weakling (How much do you weigh?)weighing ninety-eight pounds
Will get sand in his face
When kicked to the ground(groin)
And soon in the gym
With a determined chin
The sweat from his pores
As he works for his cause
Will make him glisten
(What toothpaste do you use?)And gleam, and with massage
And just a little bit of steam
He'll be pink and quite clean
He'll be a strong man
Oh, honey!

Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul

Whatever happened to Saturday night?
When you dressed up sharp and you felt alright
It don't seem the same since cosmic light
Came into my life, I thought I was divine
I used to go for a ride with a chick who'd go
And listen to the music on the radio
A saxophone was blowing on a Rock and Roll show
We climbed in the back seat, really had a good time
Hot patootie, bless my soul
Really love that Rock and Roll

Getting An Elephant Massage In Thailand Might Not Be A Good Idea

I'm of two minds here. Yes, if the elephants are being mistreated, by all means the practice should be avoided. But from the article it seems that the objection is that they are kept as working pets and not left alone in the wild. Well, fair enough, but so are dogs and cats.

Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me

(This number comes right after Frank bangs Rocky and Brad and also Janet, and just before Janet bangs Rocky. It's where the really filthy audience stuff starts in earnest)

I was feeling done in
(You're a winner)Couldn't win(Awww)
I'd only ever kissed before

You mean she?(She's a virgin!)

Uh huh

I thought there's no use getting
Into heavy petting(Yea heavy petting!)
It only leads to trouble
And seat wetting(Yea seat wetting!)
Now all I want to know
Is how to go(blow)
I've tasted blood and I want more

If Your Daughter Says She’s Gay or Bi, She’s Probably Not

Pretty interesting article on how women form their sexuality, and what today's culture is doing to that (he says disapprovingly while in the middle of a thread reveling over the debauchery of the RHPS).

Eddie

(Dr, Scott (Great Scott! *throw toilet paper*) has a Germanic accent that makes the puns work)

From the day he was born(Not dead but born)
He was trouble(Not bass but trouble)
He was the thorn(Not the rose but the thorn)
In his mother's side(Not the front but the side)
She tried in vain(Not the snow but the vain)

But he never caused her nothing but shame (Shame, shame, shame, shame!)

Halloween costume knock-offs The last one is a parody by the Obvious Plant guys, but I'm pretty sure the rest of these come straight from the copyright counterfeiters of China, Inc.

Planet Schmanet, Janet

I'll tell you once
I won't tell you twice
You'd better wise up, Janet Weiss
Your apple pie don't taste too nice
You'd better wise up, Janet Weiss
I've laid the seed, it should be all you need
You're as sensual as a pencil
Wound up like an 'E' or first string
When we made it, did you hear a bell ring?(*Ring bell* You did bring a bell, didn't you?)
You got a block, well take my advice
You'd better wise up, Janet Weiss
The Transducer will seduce ya

NSFW VIDEO: Drunk Woman Pees in Men's Urinal at Dolphins Game

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a scene like this in the uncut version. Well, maybe not in 1975. But if they remade it today? No question.

Rose Tint My World

It was great when it all began
I was a regular Frankie fan(Les-bi-an)
But it was over when he had the plan
To start working on a muscle man
Now the only thing that gives me hope
Is my love of a certain dope(Is smoking dope!)
Rose tints my world
Keeps me safe from my trouble and pain

New York coffee shop fined $300 by Sanitation Department for sign announcing how many cups they've kept out of landfill

Fanfare/Don't Dream It

Whatever happened to Fay Wray?(She went ape shit)
That delicate satin draped frame(in ape shit?)
As it clung to her thigh, how I started to cry(Over ape shit?)
'Cause I wanted to be dressed just the same(in ape shit?)
Give yourself over to absolute pleasure
Swim the warm waters of sins of the flesh
Erotic nightmares beyond any measure
And sensual daydreams to treasure forever
Can't you just see it. Whoa ho ho!

You need the sound on to appreciate this one

Wild and Untamed Thing

(Whose pool is this Frank?)

My my my
My my my my my
My my my my
My my
I'm a wild and an untamed thing
I'm a bee with a deadly sting
You get a hit and your mind goes ping
Your heart'll pump and your blood will sing
So let the party and the sounds rock on
We're gonna shake it 'till the life has gone
Rose tint my world
Keep me safe from my trouble and pain

I'm Going Home

(When I was 15, this was my favorite song, because the audience participation parts made it the dirtiest one of all. Yeah, well, I'm not 15 anymore, but fuckkit, here's the whole thing.

On the day I went away
Goodbye
Was all I had to say
Now I
I want to come again and stay(So does Brad)
Oh my
(What do you do when you masturbate?)Smile, (And what's it mean)and that will mean I may(came)
'Cause I've seen blue skies(Brad's balls)
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realize (That you're ugky when you're wet. Don't smear the makeup!)I'm going home
I'm going home
(WHere do you masturbate?)Everywhere, (And how's it been?)it's been the same
Feeling
(What doe it fel like when Brad comes in your face?)Like I'm outside in the rain

Dealing
Cards for sorrow(*deal cards into the air* 1. 2. 3.)
Cards for pain(4.5.6. *throw rest of cards into the air. You did bring a deck of cards, right?)
'Cause I've seen blue skies(Brad's balls)
Through the tears in my eyes
And I realize (That you look like a fucking racoon)I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home

10 Do they even have midnight screenings of the RHPS anymore?

Portland:

The Clinton has been showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show weekly since 1978, making it one of the longest running movies in the world! Come on down and join us any Saturday night at midnight (doors open at 11:30pm).
...

Remember this is an interactive show. At least two weekends of the month (1st, 3rd and the occasional 5th Saturdays), the Rocky Horror Picture Show is hosted by the Clinton Street Cabaret. They start the evening out with a pre-show that includes virgin games, and they perform live as the movie plays on the screen behind them. This can be a rowdy, raunchy Rocky experience. Think South Park without anything bleeped out. And while the cast itself has certain rules and guidelines under which it operates, we cannot control and would not want to censor the conduct or speech of audience members.

Yeah, my favorite RHPS reference recently was the photo of two white men not dressed up as women (I think one was that Subway guy) labeled "child molesters", and then a photo of Frank N Furter on Lips and the label "not a child molester".

Like, dude, did you even see the movie? If there had been children in the movie, he would have molested them. And it is pretty much stated outright that he molested Eddie when Eddie was underage.

Not to mention that (a) he then literally ate him and (b) the new bathroom rules were literally about letting people who look like men use girls' bathrooms without being questioned. "You keep using this meme. I don't think it means what you think it means."

-
It has a plot and it is basically moral. The good guys win , the bad guys lose, and the Earth is saved. Brad, having been exposed to evil, is irrevocably broken but everybody else, even Janet, endures and survives. Rocky, although basically innocent, is an unnatural beast and must be, and is, destroyed.

120 Interesting fact. In the opening scene at the church ("Be just and fear not"), the church is in fact an Episcopal church. How appropriate given the movie. 122 There is angst in left-wing Oregon, since a number of right-wing initiatives have made it onto the ballot, which is obviously an abuse of the intuitive system.

One of them, Measure 106, would ban state funding of abortions - basically, the State of Oregon currently will pay for anyone's abortion who doesn't have private health insurance.

The official cost analysis for Measure 106 says that costs would actually rise by nearly $10 million a year if the initiative passed. That's because costs for "health care, food and nutrition services provided by state government programs" would rise if more pregnancies are carried to term.

Imagine how much more money the State of Oregon could save if Oregon legalized the killing of infants. Think of the savings in "health care, food and nutrition services"!

People do hideous things while experimenting with recreational pharmaceuticals, alcohol and peer pressure. The star of the movie is Tim Burton, who is actually a very good actor when not portraying a Transexual from another planet.

Members of the audience act out the movie, scene by scene, line by line, in full costume in front of the screen, while the movie is playing. The audience participates by shouting or throwing things. Outdoor scene in a rainstorm? People shoot squirt guns into the air (and no that might not be water). Wedding scene? people throw rice.

167 City Lights started out as a progressive bookstore in San Fran "for people with revolutionary ideas" but it's now a general bookstore.

I was there a few years ago, about 2013, 2014. It's still very progressive. It may simply be that general bookstores now are progressive. But the few new bookstores I've been in don't appear to be as bad as City Lights, even including Book People in Austin or that famous one in Denver.

As I recall, there was one section in City Lights dominated by books with Che in the title or on the cover.

Since you're old enough so that it wouldn't influence your world view, you might find it fun to watch it at least once. Richard O'Brien has a genius for writing catchy, trashy songs, and for self-deprecating weirdness.

Given what it is - a stage play adapted for a movie (this is obvious in the way it is laid out - a series of static scenes), and how low budget it is, it's pretty well done.

Weasels, stoats, ferrets and minks are able to kill rabbits, rats, etc. many times their size. They are feisty, relentless, powerful hunters having a lot in common with their close relatives: wolverines and honey badgers.

Sweet Transvestite

(There's not much call and response in the first part of this song, at
least nobody did at the cinema near my house. Everyone just usually sang
along with Tim Curry as he chewed enough scenery for 7 movies)

San Jose, 1985/6, the dollar theater on Hillsdale:

How do you do

I see you've met my(not so) faithful handyman

He's just a little brought down because

When you knocked
(He thought it was the Jehova's witnesses)

He thought you were the candyman

Don't get strung out
(on drugs) by the way I look(that too)

Don't judge a book by its cover
(read a few pages)

I'm not much of a man
(not much of woman, either) by the light of day

But by night I'm one hell of a lover

I'm just a sweet transvestite
(tell 'em where you're from)

From Transexual, Transylvania

At least, that's what I can remember. There may have been more. Also, sorry about the formatting, 'cause I know the hamsters are going to have field day with this one.

314 Pope Francis Decries 'Insults' as a Form of Homicide
Kind of a sensationalist headline, but what he's quoted as saying seem to be generally in line with Christian doctrine.

He's correct that hatred is equated with murder in the NT, but I'm not crazy about some of his wording when he's explaining why it's wrong:

Insulting others "is a way of killing a person's dignity," Francis continued. ... "Man has a noble, very sensitive life, and possesses a hidden 'I' that is no less important than his physical being," Francis said.

From what I understand of Christian theology, it is wrong to murder humans because they have the Imago Dei (Genesis 9:6). In other words humans possess vicarious worth, they do not possess intrinsic worth.

When Pope Francis says that people possess "dignity" or "nobility" without any mention of the Imago Dei this could cause people to believe they possess innate value, that they have independent worth apart from God. So in my armchair opinion, I think he's being a bit sloppy.

And of course as others have pointed out, for him to bring this up now is a bit opportunistic. And is it really an "insult" to say Cardinal McCarrick is a pervert or that Francis is an enabler? And not only of McCarrick, there were complaints about him turning a blind eye when he was a bishop in Argentina.

Turns out she was saying the apartment management put a styrofoam cover on the outside faucet.

When I start trying to unwrap what she is trying to tell me, she tells me it isn't important. However it is important enough to ignore what I say to continue to tell me about it.

I had an MRI of my brain this morning, and while I haven't heard from the oncologist yet, they gave me a disc and I made the mistake of looking at it on the computer at work. I saw something that immediately made me think, "Uh oh, that doesn't look right."

Posted by: rickl at October 26, 2018 11:11 PM (sdi6R)

Compare the image before contrast media with the image after contrast media. "Bad" areas are brighter after the contrast media due to inflamation or increased blood perfusion, both associated with bad things such as growth or injury. The other way to tell is to compare with a previous scan and look for changes. Even the doctors will rarely commit themselves based on one scan - they wait for multiple scans to see how things are changing. For my part, brain MRIs never look right, even with the doctor sitting there talking. Of course, he is usually pointing at things and saying this could be something, or it could be nothing.

You can read the report on the MRI, but unless you have read a bunch of them they all sound bad.

Season 1-5 is on youtube. It starts a little slow with the first season episodes being 15min shorts. Hard to drive the plot in 15min. But it gets better and better in the later seasons. I'd call it American anime but that starts flame wars elsewhere because anime must technically be from Japan people say. But anyway that's the format. Just more American'y I guess.

353 In other news, I scored a major victory in the struggle with the F 150. Swapped battery out, and the horn began sounding as soon as the battery cable hit the battery post. I located the horn relay, and unplugged it, and quiet ensued.

The battery I swapped in proved to be weak, and wouldn't crank the engine. Got another, and hooked it up with booster cables. Engine started easily.

I drove it up by the shop, and looked under the dash for an alarm box. Ended up removing lower dash cover, kick panel cover, and door sill cover. There were three black boxes in there, all bearing Ford part numbers. I removed all three, since the install job was pitifully crude. A couple of wire splices were soldered, but most, including crucial wires like the crank wire, were just stripped and twisted together, and wrapped with electrical tape. Evidently, somebody added in a genuine Ford multifunction box, that acted as an alarm, keyless entry, and remote start. I ripped all that crap out, spliced the cut crank wire (using crimped-on butt splice sleeves), and tapped all the wires that had been bared for tap splices.

Truck started right up when the key was turned, and I replaced the horn relay, and the horn stayed quiet until I pushed the button on the wheel.

So I lost the keyless entry feature. BFD.

Posted by: rickl at October 27, 2018 12:00 AM (sdi6R)

Look for a bright white area in whichever hemisphere you are concerned about. It will look markedly different before and after the gave you the contrast media. Or look for a shift in the centerline between the two hemispheres. Not a small shift, either - you can't miss the real thing.

Did you taste the contrast media when they pumped it in? Nothing like the taste of gadolinium to wake one up.

A year is a long time between MRIs. Are there sudden symptoms that concern the doctors? I hope it is nothing serious.

Concise nukyler responses/refutations of erroneous claims makes sense, but the endless empty sniping with intellectual lessers is ridiculous.

There is angst in left-wing Oregon, since a number of right-wing
initiatives have made it onto the ballot, which is obviously an abuse of
the intuitive system.

One of them, Measure 106, would ban state funding of abortions -
basically, the State of Oregon currently will pay for anyone's abortion
who doesn't have private health insurance.

The official cost analysis for Measure 106 says that costs would
actually rise by nearly $10 million a year if the initiative passed.
That's because costs for "health care, food and nutrition services
provided by state government programs" would rise if more pregnancies
are carried to term.

Imagine how much more money the State of Oregon could save if Oregon
legalized the killing of infants. Think of the savings in "health
care, food and nutrition services"!

474 No, never seen it. Is it like a rum eggnog premixed?

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 27, 2018 01:09 AM

Similar. It's actually more like rum and horchata, which is like a sweetened rice drink, premixed.

I think it comes out if Wisconsin though, which is probably an abomination for a rum drinker (which if you are drinking FdC, you probably are).

485 167 -- Steven Price Blair: The vast majority of bookstore owners are screaming liberals on a holy mission to convert the entire world to liberalism. Unfortunately, that isn't much of a task when it comes to the average book buyer. I was always very, very careful of what I said at my own bookstore and at any book convention I attended. I had one customer I occasionally blew up at because she was just such an anti-conservative. Usually, her husband, who wasn't quite so moronic, stepped in to calm her down before I killed her. I had a few other customers who just couldn't get it through their heads that anyone could possibly disagree with cutting edge liberalism. And the really sad thing? My store specialized in mysteries and wasn't anything remotely resembling a general book store. But I still had to hide in the closet.

Good songwriter. Not particularly a fan of his production and arrangements though. Very ham fisted, too much going on and overly bombastic. You may be on to something about the Broadway thing. The song "You Took The Words..." is close to be a 70's classic (well, it is really). I think it's Meatloaf's vox that is the magic ingredient in that one. It's a fantastic bit of songwriting, but Steinman should have simplified the production/arrangements to emphasize it's strengths better.

513 Steinman/Meat Loaf is Townsend/Daltrey.

You have a genius songwriter who can't deliver a performance and you have a genius performer who can't come up with or even pick his own material.

Both singers have tried the "I don't need you, Dad" route and failed. Both songwriters have tried to perform.

Some people are just stuck with each other.

514 hogmartin - Another lil Hofstadter:

In Analogy, the last I read, he talks about the fluidity of thought and language, how thoughts become speech in real time with competing ideas and formulations vying with each other to "win out" and become vocalized.

Doesn't always come off, not surprisingly. He gives an example from a conversation he was having with his department head about trying to get a project funded or some such. DH said, without even noticing, that he "would pull no stops unturned" to get it done. (Note the shadow of a third idiom in there, "pull no punches.")

Hofstadter began compiling similar examples, discovering that they are both commonplace and almost always unremarked on.

520 This is now the longest game in WS history. There have been 3 games in the World Series history that went 14 innings
(none longer). The one in 1916 had the Red Sox beating the Brooklyn
Dodgers (then temporarily known as the Robins) 2-1 and the winning
pitcher was Babe Ruth - who pitched a complete game.

I should read more DH, that sort of thing's definitely my jam. It's amazing how noisy a channel can get, in signal terms, before people have difficulty extracting information from it. It's not surprising that we're able to distill intent from awkward phrasing like in that example.

I wonder if that kind of phenomenon is where pareidolia comes from; we're always assuming patterns might exist so we see them where they aren't.

So, I was looking over the Early Vote and Absentee data and discovered something interesting. When looking at the charts that breakdown by Gender I am finding a situation where three of the four subgroups (D-Female, R-Female, R-Male, D-Male) the Democrat male is lagging far behind. With the three others closely tracking. This reminds me of a recent Periscope by Scott Adams that says the Democrat Party is quickly becoming branded as " The Female Party", especially in response to the Kavanaugh, "BELIEVE ALL WOMEN", circus. This branding mistake may be the cause of Republicans lead in votes (so far.. + 540k or 4%).

Back in our teen years, going to the midnight show at the Tiffany Theater in what is now West Hollywood was a big thing before the movie became known to most of the country. Some fathead named Swift up on Twitter,
His tweets are dull, and he sounds bitter.
He insulted Ace.

He lacks the grace
To lower the lid when he's done on the shitter.

Thinking Sayoc was a loner looking for a cause, followedlots of Leftists on Twitter but maybe Trump' s win was giving him something to hold onto.

663 Skip.It's all sooo convenient.

And one person is made to stand for all of the Trump supporters.

All the while assassins, thugs, shooters, mobs, & invasion forces do not stand for anti-Trump supporters.

It is a pleasure to converse with you both, but I'm not sure if it is a good thing for you to be up so early.

I have a reason -- I want to assist old dear friends, who have turned into smug Never-Trump house guests, leave as soon as they can.
Ostensibly, it is for the 13.5 hour drive they have in front of them.

Their lack of examination of what is happening does grate a bit. But I gave them no clue as to my thoughts.

When I talk about the blog to other people, I always mention your skill at "rhymes in an instant." And point them to your book on Amazon.

Hope your sales are gratifying.

678 Salty, your restraint is admirable.

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving with friends just to see how long the "no politics" rule remains in effect. I'm betting on "30 minutes, tops".

It's odd that a booming economy and a string of diplomatic successes have actually made them dig their heels in harder instead of initiating a little reassessment and introspection.

From the On-line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences, consider A250000: "Peaceable coexisting armies of queens: the maximum number m such that m white queens and m black queens can coexist on an n X n chessboard without attacking each other."

Solutions have been established for only 15 terms (n = 1 to 15). The solution for n=11, which is 17, is shown here -- https://oeis.org/A250000/a250000_11.png

This is an optimization problem. However, the problem has no practical importance and it is the experience of trying to solve it that is useful, rather than the solutions themselves.

Good luck to you.

That is the question. Does one use reason and history to destroy their arguments, and the friendship?

It's like they cannot conceive of themselves not being tolerant, while, by definition, I am not a tolerant person.

In politics someone with you 90% is an ally, while in a religion, someone who disagrees with you 10% of the time is a heretic.

684 Midnight movies. Geez, how I remember those. They got started around here (Houston area) back in the early 1970s, towards the tail end of my time in high school. At first it was just one neighborhood movie theater (yeah, we still had those in those days), I think it was the Alabama on South Shepherd, that started the "midnight movie on Saturday night" thing. But in a matter of weeks all the neighborhood theaters joined in, and would all show the same movie on Saturday nights, as there were so many kids wanting to go that no one theater could hold them all.

And they would show a rather esoteric selection of movies; "Reefer Madness", "Easy Rider", "2001", "Fritz the Cat" (the first X-rated cartoon), "Steelyard Blues", the list was long if not necessarily distinguished. The movie would start, a sea of lighters would light, igniting the first joint of the night and off we'd go watching the movie, whatever it happened to be that weekend.

This went on for the next few years, an instant weekend tradition. Then in 1977, if memory serves, the RHPS came on the scene and supplanted everything else at the midnight movies for the next few years. I had stopped attending by then, but by all accounts a good time was had by all, if you were into that sort of thing...
