Questions for Ford That Aren't Being Asked

A good list of questions.

Mitchell is completely ignoring all of this in an effort to play nice.

Meanwhile, Kavanaugh's chances are plummeting.

4) Her own immediate family doesn't appear to be backing her up, either. Her mother, father and two siblings are all conspicuously absent from a letter of support released by a dozen relatives, mostly on her husband's side of the family.

The letter attests to her honesty and integrity. "Why didn't her parents and brothers sign the letter?" a congressional source familiar with the investigation wondered.

5) This summer, Ford tried to reach out to old friends from high school and college to jog her memory. They couldn’t help her. "I've been trying to forget this all my life, and now I’m supposed to remember every little detail," Ford complained to one friend in July, according to an account in The San Jose Mercury News.

6) Yet she still pushed forward with her bombshell charge, contacting The Washington Post tip line and Democratic lawmakers, while hiring a Democratic activist lawyer. Ford is also a Democrat, as well as an anti-Trump marcher, raising questions about the motive and timing of the allegations along with their veracity.

7) Ford contends that notes her therapist took in 2012 corroborate her account. But they don’t mention Kavanaugh.

They also point up inconsistencies in her story. For instance, her shrink noted that Ford told her there were "four boys" in the bedroom, not two as she now says. The notes also indicate Ford said she was in her "late teens" when she was assaulted. But Ford now says she may have been only 15.

Meanwhile, Ford is wasting what little time Mitchell has, and Mitchell is permitting her to do so.

For example, Mitchell was asking about the polygraph. Rather than saying "Returning to the polygraph," she said something like, "You took a polygraph on August 7th, is that correct?"

At this point, Ford's amazingly deficient memory got to speak about what it didn't know for about 30 precious seconds as she be-bopped and scatted about travel plans.

The date of the polygraph did not matter, and mentioning it only served to grant Ford the chance to deploy her semi-retarded brain to waste more time babbling and goo-goo-ing.

Mitchell keeps asking questions with this sort of invitation for a rambling response, instead of Yes/No questions. And she never instructs Ford to please limit her answers to Yes or No.

Honestly, I think it's over, unless Mitchell has saved her haymakers for the last round. Which I doubt. Her demeanor suggests that she's not just playing at being friendly towards Ford, but that she actually is friendly towards Ford. It's like she wants to be galpals with her.

4 Maddening that these are not being asked, but let's be honest, none of it matters. Judge's fate was sealed the minute Grassley postponed the vote. There was never a way out of this after that which resulted in Kavanaugh getting confirmed. Once the premise was accepted he was done.

The woman is super into being moderate and reasonable. Balancing that with a performance that she may consider credible (we don't, but this is Susan Collins we're talking about), and we may have the equation for her voting no.

I'm still leaning towards Cocaine Mitch whipped already, and knows how the vote will go, and this dog and pony show is really just for show to make the Furious Four feel better about themselves.

20 Kavenaugh was dead the moment the Democrats pushed a live hearing into the process. This isn't about facts, this is about an emotional woman on TV with a wavering voice, tears just short of being shed.

Emotions rule, facts drool. It's the damn Nixon-Kennedy debate all over again.

Add to that some Republican senators who run on emotion, and at least one who would give an arm to shove a needle in Trump's eye.

We'll be lucky if Kavenaugh isn't hauled out the room, dragged down the street, and hung from a bridge.

The summation has to be respectful and calm. The dems are doing what they are expected to do...testify for the accuser. We should not be surprised by that.

Kavanaugh will be the make or break of this proceeding. If he comes off as sympathetic and victimized, and buttresses his testimony with facts, he should be good to go.

Par for the course for congressional hearings. I've never seen a Congressional hearing where anyone was actually questioned correctly. Even with all the big-shot prosecutors and trial lawyers who infest Washington, they all seem to suck when it comes to questioning at hearings.

Of course, this is because (as with all government action) those acting have very different interests (and fears) than those who actually depend on the outcomes. Kavanaugh and his lawyers have no right to directly question Christine Fred Blassey.

Exactly right. This is not a fact-finding exercise. It IS theater, it IS a trial, NOT a deposition. Mitchell appears not to grasp that. She's treating it as though she's just getting background information that she can use later at trial to impeach the witness. Except that this IS the trial.

83 If this is hard for people to understand, this reminds me of my barking-mad Leftist brother, who often tells made-up stories.

To be clear, I'm sure he really BELIEVES these stories he made up. But the common thread is that they serve to reinforce some political notion or point he wants to make. In short, it's a "convenient" memory.

People tend to believe what they want to believe, and even - especially with long ago memories - remember things the way they WANT to remember them.

But people who make up such stories always run into trouble when anybody who knows ANYTHING about the situation hears about it.

By way of example, my brother was telling people that our father watched FOX News all the time, but was nonetheless not fooled by them. When challenged on whether our father even watched FOX with regularity he said he knew this because he had "lived with him as an adult". I knew that could only be referring to 1986, immediately after he finished college, which he confirmed.

So I confronted him with the fact that FOX did not even exist yet at that time - a fact anybody can just look up. That's when he blocked me on FB. (LOL)

The very fact that we are having the hearing is for political purposes.

And it's because of the Furious Four and their insistence on looking virtuous.

The question is: Is that look from just having the hearing enough for all four? Or, are they actually looking for reasons to vote against an extremely qualified member of their own club based on nothing accusations that will lead to even more of this behavior from their friends across the aisle?

I go for #1 AND #2 (except for the prosecutor playing to them perfectly).

This effectively IS a trial, and the jury is the court of public opinion. Even if the four vote to confirm, if the court of public opinion thinks otherwise, Kavanaugh is in trouble. He'll have a cloud hanging over his head the rest of his days.

It is imperative to get the court of public opinion on side; then the four bent reeds will follow. The converse proposition doesn't make.

But, hey, this is Ace's blog and he's the leader here, so I guress we can now expect him to recite to all of us his OWN points of credibility, as well as the rationale that underlies his calling her brain "retarded".

As for Ace's attacks on Mitchell, the Dems WARNED Grassley this was the wrong way to go. Don't blame Mitichell, a well known and award winning prosecutor of long experience, when it's Grassley who tied her hands.

I don't see how Kav can pull this out- nor do I see the nomination going forward at all. The excuse will be 'we must look at the other accusations as well as this' and of course never fulfill those as the nom will end.

Might as well pull Kav in now, and get this over with...

253 Sorry Ace, but I'm going with the lawyers here in the comments who say that the prosecutor from AZ did exactly what she should have been doing, and that was asking questions in a calm non accusatory manner.

Too many people on this blog treat everything that happens in Washington like it some movie script they can write. Two thirds of the people on here were insistant that Ford would never testify, despite Grassley going above and beyond Senate rules to get her live testimony. She has been coached like all witnesses are , you think before you give testimony your lawyers don't explain how you should behave, etc.?

Kavanaugh himself stated in his interview last week that he doesn't question that something may have happened to Ford, as he doesn't know. What he does know is that he wasn't the one to do it to her. He will certainly present the same defense this afternoon and the Dems are going to try to convince everyone that he did this to her last week. That is what the biggest problem he and the Rep. face right now. The three Dems and several Rep. that are being pushed by leftists to vote him down are going to be targeted by the Dems into not having to imagine Kavanaugh doing this as a minor boy, but they are going to make him out to be a secret evil lurking rapist that no one has known until now.

Just watch. All the questioning by the Dems this afternoon will be geared at making Kavanaugh a CURRENT sexual predator.

Yeah. I don't see how Susan Collins voting no and killing the nomination convinces Republican voters to not vote for Republicans any more.

The point would be to punish those who did it, right?

And how do you punish someone like Collins, aside from actually (miraculously) getting her our of office? You make her irrelevant in the caucus by getting more Republicans in office.

273 They aren't going to hammer her, this is political. They lost when they agreed to let her appear, rather than simply restrict things to a written deposition. Mitchell is doing a good job, given the format and limitations put on her.

Anybody with sense and honesty can see this for what it is. We go back and forth between 5 minute sets of meaningful discussion and heartsell and grandstanding.

This woman is 100% sure, and waxes poetic with weird academic answers about the hippocampus rather than answering a simple question in a straight forward way, yet can't remember basic facts like whether she handed her sensitive therapist records over to a journalist or not, just weeks/months ago.

She is afraid of flying and needed help getting on the plane today, yet it turns out she flies all over the damn place all the time. Literally. All the time. All over the world. She's flown many times in just the previous weeks and months.

Her polygraphy was this traumatic experience, that lasted a long time, yet she was only asked two fucking questions! And she can't remember whether it happened on the same day as her grandmothers funeral or not. Wait wut, you took a polygraph while grieving the death of your mi ma?

But she has lots of degrees, y'all. She's so smart. She's a psychologist. But doesn't know what the word "exculpatory" means. Doesn't acknowledge the malleability of memory. It's like Eben Alexander, the neurosurgeon, and his NDE claims. He's a supposed expert that somehow doesn't understand basic neuroscience. This woman is a psychologist that doesn't understand basic psychology.

But we only get brief glimpses every other 5 minutes.

The whole thing is a sham.

I'm fully confident GOP will cave. Because this is about heartsell. I'm sure several will vote no, Flake, Collins, Murkowski. They'll get just enough defectors. And every one of them should be added to the list, right next to Jim Acosta and Don Lemon.

She giggled when she had to admit she's flied all over the world and said it her little girl voice, "I thought he would come to me." Get it? Not watching but at some point either Grassley or the prosecutor needs to lay out how Ford has - still - offered no evidence for her claim, apart from her recollection (which obviously is put in doubt by her general memory problems), how all the other people allegedly present deny any of this happened, and how this is not a credible basis for any decisions about anything.

323 2 things.

It is claimed that women who have been assaulted as a child will retain a higher pitched voice into adult hood.

The reason for the delay by Feinstein may have been that they had to teach her how to act and have rehearsals with questioning to prep her. Prepping a witness is common practice by lawyers. They can't tell them WHAT to say but they can tell/show them HOW to say it for maximum response by the jury.

She started dating her current husband in the late 70s. She got pregnant. They were young. He was obviously scared by all this and left her. She had an abortion.

Eventually they got back together, married, had two kids. Then in the 90s, she started fucking around on him big time. They went to counseling.

The counselor asked her, "Why do you have so much hostility toward your husband?"

Her response: "I'll never forgive him for leaving me when I was pregnant because I got so upset it made me lost that baby."

To this day, he believes she lost that baby, the therapist believes she lost that baby.

I've seen this at first hand in academia, with women who acted as though they'd been in the patriarchy's Tet Offensive, when nothing remotely of the kind had happened. I knew this because I'd been there at the time.

And being a master mass media manipulator he knows what look to give to the hearings - that EVERYONE will be exposed to in one way or another.

The prosecutor has been great. People aren't watching this to be persuaded about the veracity of the claims. Most have made up their mind. The rest will simply get a superficial "feel" for what went on today.

Trump knows what that feel should be. He also knows what the D's are expecting and will take advantage of.

There are powerful establishment forces that want Kavanaugh on SCOTUS.

And Trump doesn't like to lose.

Seems like the perfect combination to get Kavanaugh over the line despite almost anything the Left throws at him.

But then, Collins...and Murkowski...

487 Well, husband just texted me his aunt may be dying. She's been in hospice care for a while.

Just turned 90, survived lung cancer once (life long smoker), and she's had it again for over a year now.

Husband has medical power of attorney and is back and forth to ATL. His three siblings who live there are worthless.

Sigh.

488 A reminder that the case against Tom Robinson looked sewn up as well against him, until Atticus got Tom Robinson on the stand, and his testimony facilitated by Atticus' questioning decimated them. Or as the kids say now, he DESTROYED THEM.

Maybe that's a bad example. Tom was completely innocent, and got convicted anyway...

I hate this. I hate all of this. This is destroying both women's ability to accuse ACTUAL rapists, and Kavanaugh's family's entire life and future, all in one foul farce.

499 My question is this.

She was too young to drive and claims someone had to have driven her there and back. If she fled before the party was over was someone just there waiting for her with the engine running? Wouldn't she have had to call for a ride? And would not that person remember picking her up if she was so upset? She already testified that it was a 20 minute drive to her house which would be at least a three hour walk.

Seems to me that sort of walk after a trauma would be burned into her memory too had it happened.

And this was before the advent of cell phones so she would have had to do this out a house. She testified she did not want her parents to know she was at a drinking party, so did she lie to them and hide her emotional state, or did someone else pick her up?

They really should have gone with a civil trial person.

It's just something I've heard bandied about by some talk/tv show hosts.

Can't recall just who right now.

The idea being that sexual assault infantilizes some women and that leads to a type/tone of voice even into adulthood.

And you will find that men who have been abused as children will have a different tone (less masculine) of voice into adulthood. But that doesn't mean everyone and of course the tone could be just genetics.

NO ONE IS HONEST FOR FEAR OF BEING ATTACKED BUT... Dr. Ford strikes as a remarkably flakey and clueless person few intelligent people would find of any interest or would want to befriend. Didn't even understand the word exonerate. PhD? Well, maybe. That's the academic world.

She doesn't care about facts, or about anything... To her, all that matters is Ford's accusation... Because when she was raped, no one believed her... She just kept saying, "Why would she lie?" and thinking she was incredibly brave for coming forward... Pure, raw emotion... no facts... She just knows in her bones that Ford is telling the truth and Kavanaugh must be guilty...

596 Let's not chop off everyone's dicks yet, people that are worried...

Kavanaugh did brilliant in his TV interview, remember. He will not get ruffled on the stand, and he will be able to ninja dodge leading questions, and he will look like the nice guy done wrong that he actually is.

THIS is why the prosecution goes first and the defense goes second, in my mind. So the accused gets the final impression of the jury, and so the defendant can see the case being built against them and fight that narrative. And why the libs were trying to blow up that process by Ford squealing she could go last.

The prosecution is trying to build a wall of condemnation against him, brick by brick by brick. Kavanaugh can hopefully tear out chunks of that wall and send it tumbling down.

702 Mitchell's cross exam is terrible, questions should have been in your polygraph yo say 6, in your affidavit you say 4, correct?

You don't remember the year, correct?

You don't remember the day, correct?

You don't remember whose house it was, correct?

You don't remember the address, correct?

You don't know how you got there, correct?

And you don't know how you got home, correct?

Your best friend who you say was there, says she was not and did not even know who Brett Kavanaugh was the the time, correct?

This is how it is done. Mitchell for whatever reason did a terrible, appallingly bad job. Maybe she just sucks at being a lawyer.

Posted by: I am Gracchus at September 27, 2018 02:33 PM (akLGN)

703 Maybe all the babbling and goo-goo-ing is the point.

Let the public see she's either a liar or a nut. Or both, they're hardly mutually exclusive.

Sometimes the Perry Mason route isn't the way to go. She seems to be caught in lie after lie and all they get is, "I can't remember". She's coming across like an absolute ditz.

Most women aren't going to buy that for long, especially with that Dr in front of her name.

PS I think Mr Peebles up top is right. Even Flake seems to have broken with the Demos on this and Senate races are tightening. Manchin is dead even in WV, so those red state voters have to be considered.

Yeah, all she did was expose her lying about her fear of flying, contradict herself multiple times about who and how many were at the party, throw her friend and other witnesses under the bus, show that she can't even remember dates from the last month, that she doesn't know who paid for the polygraph ... yeah, but Ford looked credible to Mitchell's questioning besides that ...

smfh ...

Posted by: thirteen28 at September 27, 2018 02:38 PM (GdJ+p)

705 Then after a line of question like 702 above, you say, but you do remember that you had exactly one beer to drink, correct?

Drawing the obvious implication that wherever she had a bad feely with a bad boy who we will will never know, that she was hammered.

Also, likely that she has been telling this kind of victim badge since it became popular, and then, to make it all the much better she made the bad boy the most powerful person she knew of to make the story even more fabulous. Then, once stuck telling enough people, she was trapped and did not want to look foolish so she brazened ahead.

I think she likely did have an experience, which is why she sounds pretty good describing it, but intentionally kept it vague as to other details so she could successfully cut and past Kavenaugh into the story. She is a pile of crap, but I am not hopeful about the nomination at this point. What dumbs hits, should said, so sad, too late, not going to play this game and voted as originally scheduled.

Bummer

More simply, if Leland's credibility is in question because of health problems, then so is Ford - who admitted to health problems under oath this morning.

She doesn't get to decide which standards apply to whom and which ones don't, and he doesn't get to decide that they apply only to others but not to her.

Posted by: irongrampa at September 27, 2018 02:55 PM (S/hVx)

714 Here's my most basic question (well, pair of questions):

(1) If Kavanaugh is innocent, what could he have done in his life (yes, his WHOLE life) to be secure from the threat of being disbelieved on the stand?

IFAICS, pretty much nothing. OK, apparently he drank a fair bit in HS, but as far as anyone corroboration of his life as a whole, it's been not merely clean but exemplary.

(2) If Ford is telling the truth and was assaulted, what could she have done in her life to make her story more believable?

OK...she could have spoken about this at the time; she could have gone public earlier; her testimony would not contradict itself at several points, etc.

IOW, Kavanaugh would be screwed pretty much screwed no matter how he lived his adult life; a false charge that cannot be proven or even corroborated would sink him.

Therefore, should false charges be brought against any man, he is to be judged guilty.

719 I think the prosecutor has done an excellent job letting Ford hang herself, change her story 4 times, and throw her best friend under the bus. Remember, this whole thing is to give cover to the 3 Rs and 3 Ds to vote for Kavanaugh becuase now Ford Blowsie seems like the least believable person on the face of the planet.

Kavanaugh's testimony will be the final killshot and those currently undecided will hear from voters - particularly women back home in AK, AZ, ND, WV - that you can't treat a decent, honorable man like this who has given his life to publice service.

Posted by: horn at September 27, 2018 03:10 PM (95zYl)
