4 Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, September 16, 2018. On this day in 1987 the Montreal Protocol farce was signed to protect the ozone layer from depletion. NASA used to post the size of that so-called hole on the internet. After 10 years of this farce the size of the hole had not changed at all. They took it down after people started noticing. Do you morons know that in a couple of years ALL forms of Freon will be banned and they do not have anything to replace it yet. Surprisingly enough RR was President when we signed this POS.

From what I read in that article, McRaven wasn't the author of the anonymous op ed but rather wrote an op ed under his name telling the President, after Trump revoked Brennan's security clearance, to revoke his, too.

The only name I've seen guessed as to who wrote the anonymous op ed is Elaine Chao, the current Secretary of Transportation and McTurtle's wife.

It's not just the flag officers.

Selection boards had quotas. Diversity was more important than operational excellence. I aver we need to prune the officer bloat, get the poor leaders out, and get ready for a war with China in 5 years.

Look at those 7th Fleet COs. Oh well, the US Navy had a very long tradition of poor leadership after long periods of peace.

There are valid reasons for my concern.

I have two hopes.
1) We have made clear to Red China that peace is better than war, and we will use robust strategic weapons to trade any sunken ships for their cities.

The last bottle of wine I got in a restaurant was three times what you would pay in a grocery store. Beer, wine, and liquor (if available) are what keep restaurants in business. They actually lose money in the kitchen.

I know about the Chinese quality manufacturing issues, but they seem to be building robust ships very quickly. The first mover in a big conflict has an advantage.

The Chinese are a step up from the USSR practices of crudely made ships and tanks in large numbers, only good for limited hours in combat.

The USN has extremely good damage control training, as shown by those 7th Fleet DDGs. But good DC is less of a war winner in a brief war. "Prevention is better than First Aid" is my motto.

Yes we should. Because it does benefit us. Coal and ag products are pretty important exports from the heartland. Additionally, because we can keep shipping lanes open allows us to shut selected shipping lanes if we so desire. This is a strategic power few countries have.

155 145 NaCly, should we provide those open sea lanes free of cost to the Asian countries that put our workers out of jobs? Serious question. "

We should be clear about what our policy actually is. Just as Britain did for 140 years before we took over the job, for the last 80 years we have provided open sea lanes for ourselves, because our economy depends on large part on our ability to export goods around the world. Other nations get a free ride because it's useful to us to have them depend on us for security. Also it keeps any other country from thinking there's a gap they can exploit - a realization that came after we let Japan build an offensive navy that was far too strong in the 30's.

177 The only name I've seen guessed as to who wrote the anonymous op ed is Elaine Chao, the current Secretary of Transportation and McTurtle's wife."

There was also a piece making a pretty good case for it being a british born Presidential advisor named Fiona Hill - lots of liberal connections going way back. I think she's a lot more likely suspect than Chao.

178 My wife watches the "new" Will and Grace. (I don't know why)

She had recorded the "first look" advertisement show for it that was on a few days ago.

Watching the show itself they all look a little older. When the do a close up interview with them about how funny the show will be this year....I'm sorry. You are all to long in the tooth to be playing clueless 25 year olds anymore.

179 clutch

This is a tell that military service is kinda a jobs program, rather than a warfighting machine. We still do pretty good compared with some of the EU militaries.

Given the skill set and numbers, could we go to all-male ships in the USN? Trading skills and diversity for unit cohesion and upper body strength? Back-biting, politicking, and wanting to get out of bilge-diving would be unaffected.

Landscaping may be futile here, given the drought and marauding wildlife. Armadillos are moving five-pound rocks to get at the roots of my roses. Deer eat the shoots as fast as they grow. I'm getting no sleep protecting the flora from the fauna.

188 naval policy under Carter, Clinton and Obama was a disaster, of course. Lucky for us it takes 30 years, give or take, for an opponent to build up a competent Navy. Carter got followed by Reagan who built the Navy back. Clinton got incredibly lucky, taking office after the Soviet Union fell apart, so he got handed the only functional Navy in the world for his term in office, and of course he had no idea what to do with it.

Obama is where things really began to fall apart, which is showing up now with the accidents, such as the USS McCain.

192 "Obama is where things really began to fall apart, which is showing up now with the accidents, such as the USS McCain."

The Obama era coincided with, in my opinion, the greatest cleansing of professional warfighter and enlisted senior leadership from the military that I had ever witnessed in over thirty years of service.

That era saw a huge influx to the leadership ranks of either true SJW's, or leaders who were willing to trade their core values for recognition, promotion and power by supporting these progressive initiatives which did nothing to support the mission of the military.

McRaven penned an op-ed in response to Trump announcing he was to revoke Brennan's security clearance. He told the President to take his too. It was a couple of weeks ago. It isn't the anonymous one.

210 202 Didn't I read it here that one of the ships collided because the two female officers weren't talking to each other."

heh - wouldn't surprise me. The worst thing about the one with the slow cargo ship was that the only thing needed to avoid it was one seaman, standing on deck, saying "uh hey guys there's a pretty big ship over there and it's kinda coming our way." But nobody was posted.

that accident was like the scene in Austin Powers where the security guard stands in front of a very slow moving steam roller until it runs him over.

213 I was actually worried about Ole Miss's offensive capability against Alabama's new secondary before the game, and even more so after they scored a TD on the first play from scrimmage. But that score was it for them. I liked Darth Saban's answer when he was asked at half time how Alabama was able to shut that down after the first play; 'We put a different guy on #14.'
