This is why I think Trump said that he disagreed with the IC assessment, that there was no reason for Putin to meddle. The usuals can continue to make the allegations, but Trump is setting them up for a "put up or shut up" moment. Since Trump (in my experience) does not set these sorts of things up if he isn't certain to win them, then I believe that he knows they can never prove the allegations because he actually has proof* of the opposite. Now, I cannot prove any of that speculation - and I try to keep that in mind - but it is fun to consider. *Via Admiral Rogers when he was at the NSA. It would be better (for Trump) if he would just stop the references to former administrations/presidents/policies, on most topics.
He's got the greatest political integrity (doing what he said he'd do) of any president, perhaps any national-level politico, in generations. He's a man of action, tireless, and already has achievements to his credit. Overall he's a spectacular contrast to the ignorant, alien, lazy idiot who preceded him - in action, without saying a word, the contrast is dramatic and has been of course noted by most of the American people. No need to remind the country of its disgrace in electing Obama. Generalized references to past policies being mistaken are OK, I suppose, but all of it squanders one of Trump's greatest strengths as president - he's a man of action who takes responsibility. No need to spell it out. Enough people (most of those who think at all about such things) get it. Posted by: rhomboid at July 16, 2018 03:43 PM (QDnY+) 118

There is no compelling evidence, or evidence at all put forward that Russia did anything to materially effect the election.
I have looked at both intel reports, I have looked at the CSV meta data file that the IC released as supporting evidence, I have looked at the Senate Intel committee report, I have pretty much looked at everything I could find and there is simply nothing there to support such a conclusion. There is however adequate direct and circumstantial evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the IC and LE apparatus under Obama were politicized and weaponized to exonerate Hillary Clinton and Destroy Donald Trump before and after the election. But we are left with a serious issue that still needs to be resolved and quickly.... Broadly speaking, our LE, IC and political bodies have coalesced and taken as gospel that Russia materially interfered in our election and this interference aided the current President. The current President has pretty much with this press conference rejected the assessments of his LE and IC apparatus and taken the word of a foreign leader. Now I agree with Trumps assessment and the LE and IC have been corrupted and weaponized. But... THIS. IS. A. HUGE. PROBLEM. And I don't know how this can be resolved to restore faith in and control of our LE and IC apparatuses. This is dangerous. Posted by: Kreplach at July 16, 2018 03:47 PM (UfMVm) 157

Absurd NIE on Iran nukes was before Brennan. And it was obviously absurd at the time it was released, and anyone with a brain said so. But as on so many other things, Dubya failed by not rejecting such nonsense, and instead using it as the spur to turn the IC upside-down, which it obviously needed.
Everyone focuses on Iraq WMD estimates, but that precisely misstates the issues. The disasters like the Iran NIE showed a lack of professionalism, integrity - and intelligence in the normal sense - they were not typical (yes, it's normal) failures to achieve big breakthroughs against closed societies engaged in active deception efforts. Actually, the press release, er, indictments from Mueller will probably quickly be consigned to oblivion (as McCarthy explained/predicted, they will be filed in a dark corner of the Nat. Sec. division at DOJ).
I believe Rosie in his presser specifically said this case would be transitioned over to regular DOJ. Which is what McCarthy is saying - filed in a dark corner. And I expect the "no comment" re Putin's offer under the criminal investigation treaty to allow investigators to visit Russia will be the last word on that topic, too. Trump's key agenda items, apart from judicial appointments, have been stymied by the Dems and GOPe working together, so far. Tax cuts (temporary) are the only big exception where something important requiring congressional action, actually happened. The rest - border security, real immigration reform, restoring rule of law re "sanctuary" crap, reducing EPA budgets, etc. - dead in the water. Impeachment is stupid, high-profile, kinetic, and obviously hopeless. Neutering Trump in the hope he's a temporary speed bump - that strategy is mostly working, so far. Scogg, horseshit right back. Every word you said. Impeachment is less likely than Trump resigning because he changed his mind and would rather retire than be president.
Impeachment's a non-starter. And as I pointed out, it's completely superfluous. The "resistance" is one blue wave mid-term from neutering Trump to a great degree, and meanwhile Dems and GOP have *already* stymied most of Trump's key agenda items. That blue wave is extremely unlikely to happen, significant chance of a red wave instead. But that's where the action is. A reminder of all this should come soon, when yet again, the GOP in Congress will fail to play hard ball, and yet another omnibus CR is forced on Trump (with curious things like large increases in H1B #s, and straight-lined EPA budgets - like last time) tucked away inside. It's funny that these same socialists/communist sympathizers were always telling us during the Reagan era that the Soviet Union was no threat and that we needed to show them that we were peaceable by unilaterally disarming ourselves.
I remember how we trained to scout the Fulda Gap for the Apaches and Cobra gunships as the Soviet motor rifle divisions churned by with thousands more tanks than Hitler ever wished he had. My wife made the mistake of asking me about our chances for survival should the balloon go up and I said I had a life expectancy measured in seconds with the number of Zoos (mean ass Russkie tank with 4 20-mike-mike cannons, radar and an electro-optical tracking system), SAMs and MiGs prowling and growling. It didn't help that I was in a Kiowa that wasn't fast, only small and maneuverable. Now Russia is the biggest threat ever. Which one is it, moonbats? Greatest threat evuh or nothing to worry about it? If the Mueller gang of Keystone cops had something on Trump and his team, it would've already leaked out like the antifreeze out of a Fiat. Considering how these people can't stop blabbing to their butt buddies (Biden's term, not mine) in the press, there's no way damning evidence would still be secret. It's time to end this farce. While the dems might, just might eek out a win in the House, they are not going to get the Senate.
Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at July 16, 2018 04:24 PM (+Dllb) They'll have every sitting Democrat plus the following Republicans after the mid-terms ... No, it wasn't 20-30, and their families (and funerals) back home were treated like regular army personnel - and the post-humous decorations were like that, too. The "contractor" re-flagging was transparent, and of no apparent value anyway. Not all of us rely on crappy Euro magazines for our info.
And no, a Dem president who was wildly unpopular would hear zero "impeachment" talk (absent, you know, actual impeachable offenses). Not the way the GOP rolls. Or the Dems, until recently. Clinton was impeached (he was popular at the time) for damn good, obvious, and solid reasons: committing felonies on video. Should have been convicted and removed. Failure to do so is a material reason the country's civic culture at the federal level has collapsed. Posted by: rhomboid at July 16, 2018 04:33 PM (QDnY+) 400

Posted by: ScoggDog at July 16, 2018 04:33 PM (fiGNd) You forgot Mitt Romney. But it doesn't actually matter: the President's agenda losing in West Virginia and Indiana would take across the board collapse. So 44-45 + 10 still isn't enough to impeach. Not to mention that if the Republicans really backstab their voters, they can look forward to violent protests from the left -and- right. Nothing short of a sure thing can impeach the President, and that was true after inauguration. After years of economic success and strong warfare against ISIS? Not to mention some sweet Court picks? Even traitors have too much to lose, especially if they fail. Posted by: trev006 at July 16, 2018 04:43 PM (S6rSu) 404
Well then. Impeach him already. Pelosi and Schumer are desperate to cover up the left's crimes. If they dont go for broke now this might be their last chance in a long long time to replace us with their 3rd world country heathens. Ryan and Mitch? They are not up for election. But with impeachment proceedings they are going to create a red wave of massive amounts of pissed off deplorables coming to vote for any asshole Republican in all races than would otherwise have bothered to. We will drag the traitors kicking and screaming for a win over the democrats. We know who is up for impeachment and it's not Trump but us, and we r very clear that PDT represents us. So GOP globalists, go ahead, make our day. Impeach Trump NOW. Today. Too soon? How about tomorrow? Not ready? Need to grow some balls? Lets give you some time since you are waiting for polls out this week. This week? Perhaps. Cant wait.

"395 And...it's not working.
--- agreed/ So you can expect they will try something else. And become more desperate when that doesn't work. And eventually, do something stupid." They will. Given the level of unhinged psychopathology, there is something huge here. At a minimum it involves domestic criminality, perhaps the murder of Seth Rich. There is little doubt Soros and the Gang invested a fortune in Hillary to conduct a proxy war against Russia. Let's hope their stupidity doesn't result in all of us getting vaporized, but given the desperation they aren't introspective enough to be concerned with such a small matter. There's going to be, if Ryan puts it up for vote, a surprising-to-some number of Republicans that play along. And we can all name the Senate Votes to convict now.
Posted by: ScoggDog at July 16, 2018 03:46 PM (fiGNd) As badly as the GOPe Republi-cucks want President Trump out of office (because he's from the private sector and expects results), those turds like their perks. Trump is at something like 90% favorability among Republican voters: the GOPe guys know that voting for impeachment would be career-ending as a Congress critter and the Democrats would only talk to their pet lobbyists, so most of those doughy fvkcs couldn't expect a cushy job as a reward for screwing-over President Trump and the Republican base. Thus, the only way it would happen is if President Trump alienates the Republican base and I don't see that happening. 398. Rubio, really? The majority of Hispanic vote that he needs are not illegals or central Americans. The shouts of joy all over Cuban WORKING class neighborhoods when Trump won are not easily forgotten. The media can ignore it, but they do so at their own peril of a 2016 repeat.
Let me put it succintly: Rubiecito is politically toast in Florida if he votes to impeach Trump. Posted by: Martell at July 16, 2018 04:54 PM (OWp3m) 409
347---The problem as I see it is real simple ... you mistake YOUR wishes for the GOP as THEIR wishes for the GOP.
Posted by: ScoggDog at July 16, 2018 04:18 PM (fiGNd) ------------------------------ No, dear, that isn't my problem --- nor rhomboid's, I'd guess. The GOP will do what it is THEIR interest. Period. My "wishes" or the voters' wishes are only of marginal (and purely instrumental) interest to them. On that we are agreed. But you ASSUME that impeachment is the best way to get rid of Trump and the anti-Establishment movement he represents. On that I disagree. There are other, less dangerous ways to deal with the deplorable problem --- and the GOPe is notorious for being risk-averse. Ben Shapiro is losing his sh*t over the press conference. Always knew his was NT, but never knew he was quite this naive about realpolitik.
This won't end my daily visits to The Daily Wire, but now I officially classify them as "outside MY bubble", just like Hot Air and Politico. Posted by: Croak at July 16, 2018 05:20 PM (wmMT4) Processing 0.04, elapsed 0.0496 seconds. |
