Decompression Thread

Below, some cute animal vids, starting with one sent along by steevy to brighten our moods:

This guy doesn't explain how he wound up with a baby squirrel separated from its mom, which I'd like to know, but the video is great:

I've never thought of the phrase "infested with bears" before, but there's no other way to describe this:

Everyone's seen puppies afraid of a vacuum cleaner, but this one hides in a novel way:

A funny one of cats:

Their second test flight in January 2018, called "Still Testing", was a complete success and was the first rocket launched from New Zealand to put satellites into orbit.

98 A couple of night's ago there was a thread(I missed) where people were discussing.

"Infinity War" part 2 or whatever it'll be called.

And someone mentioned that maybe not all of the heroes will be restored to life.

I think that's essentially right but not quite on point.

Even Marvel has said this is the culmination of their first iteration of the Marvel Universe....So-

in order to get their SJW versions on board for future movies, I think-

this will be Marvel's version of DC's "Flashpoint".

"Flashpoint" is essentially the story of Flash traveling to the past to save his mother and that screws up everything. He's no longer the Flash, Superman is an near autistic weenie alien kept under gov't seal, etc, etc.

My guess is that Thanos will demand a price for restoring the Universe or perhaps can't truly restore the Universe and the heroes will be replaced in this timeline by alternative SJW heroes.

With Captain Marvel as the new leader.

Pretty sure that's the future of the series.

YMMV.

160 What do people mean, something bad "is going" to happen?

Way I see it, it's happening all the time already.

Yes yes the society as a whole is not responding to the insane malevolent hysteria of the racist authoritarians. In fact it's rejecting it, though mostly in quiet ways.

But it's now acceptable (i.e., little or no penalty or consequences) for the most offensive and idiotic things to be said, even by elected officials. Half or more of the country remains completely un- and mis-informed, because no real press. Cabinet secretaries can be harassed in public - at their homes - and the perps spike the ball in the endzone, they don't apologize or suffer consequences.

CEOs of major companies can say the most absurd things, pander to the most repugnant and extreme hysteria, and it's just ho-hum.

Major incidents aren't that important compared to trends and general conditions. Those are worse than I thought they'd ever be.

163 "But you're a Dick"

And?

Posted by: Dick at June 22, 2018 09:06 PM (SRarZ)

164 So...

I was reading a link over at Instpundit about the left turning on the left in Philadelphia. And the article mentioned a group of what sounded like twenty or so people, all carrying megaphones, who stormed an event and started shouting (the usual) accusations at the person being honored at the event. And it got me to thinking...

Megaphones are likely going to be the instrument of choice for the more obnoxious lefties for the foreseeable future. They're lightweight, portable, and allow the user to speak in a way that forces everyone around to listen (whether they want to or not). And if your goal is to disrupt an event, then they're quite good at that.

Is there a way to deal with that in a non-violent (not counting violence started by the obnoxious lefties, of course) fashion? For instance, is there a simple method or device that could be employed to cause embarrassing feedback whenever the lefties tried to use their devices? Ideally, it would be a solution that couldn't be counter-employed against a legitimate speaker (who is likely using a microphone). Is such a thing possible? Is just the first part possible?

I'm curious.

191 @159 If DisMarv goes hard with the SWJ versions, oh it's going to be so much fun to watch them faceplant again and again.
--------------------

If Disney goes SJW with Captain Marvel, then it likely won't be anything that they "learned" from Black Panther. Black Panther was released too late into Captain Marvel's production cycle, imo.

As for the current roster of Avengers...

The next movie will likely be the last for Chris Evans. He had a contract for six movies, and he's been in six movies. He's stated that he'll do number seven because he wants the story to finish. But he's been talking for a while about leaving acting and moving over to directing. So it's pretty clear that he wants to move on.

There's been talk for a while about Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. has been playing the character for quite a while, and there's been repeated discussion about how long he's planning on staying with the franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves after the next movie as well.

Those aren't Disney decisions. Those are decisions on the parts of the actors.

196 Dana Point is a beautiful but now over-crowded, over-busy, and wildly expensive place (like much of coastal SoCal). The "coastal clueless" phenomenon is strong there, but perhaps not as much as elsewhere - not sure. Part of an area that used to make up the evil right-wing suburban SoCal heartland.

Still kinda shocked the supervisors and sheriff in Orange Co. rejected the idiotic "sanctuary" state law (figured it's too far gone now). San Diego supervisors did the same, but idiot sheriff has said nothing - and just survived a serious challenge from a guy who never mentioned the issue ("issues" are rare in sheriff's elections, so this challenger is one of the worst disappointments evah).

211 Nice try, ace, and much appreciated. But it didn't work.

Despite Trump's very substantial gains, I'm still living in a world where The Horrific Bitch won. Except more anger, more refusal to look at reality, more unfounded leftist rage.
As I've said many times, I blame television for our current state. It's a tool that makes manipulating The Stupid incredibly easy. And it has made The Stupid the purveyors of taste, thought, and culture. It feeds on its own success, because we can't look away.
Imagine a non-television world. Imagine, then, where trannies would be. In mental institutions, where they belong...not stars of reality shows, not deciders of law.
We're all doomed. All damned. We had it all, and we let the cathode demon seduce us.

Yes, I post my depressing thoughts. Because all of that bears down on me relentlessly. I honestly pray that no one experiences depression the way that I do, because it's too damn awful.

But I try to keep it off the site. Really, I could fill every thread with....but I don't. I bite my tongue and do something else, because it's damned boring to post how awful life is. Over and over and over again.

Sometimes, though, it just gets to be too much and I have to spew somewhere. And this site is more often than not the recipient. Sorry to everyone.

I do try to be positive, it just doesn't work, and for that I apologize.

Except it needs to be directional otherwise you're just adding the noise. And the other protesturds could target you.

A directional speaker should only be heard by the target if you're in range. Also, the jerk with the bullhorn will be more likely think it's just their own bullhorn kicking back.

A Bartender should be at least as smart as an Uber or Cab driver. Much more listenjng than talking, and avoid taking extreme positions. Especially in your case, when you let him know that you were mourning a lost feline family member.

That was an unforced own goal on his part.

Jeez, that was pretty dickish.

There seem to be more dog lovers who hate cats than cat lovers who hate dogs. I don't know why.

My dad was a cat hater, so I never had them growing up. I was living in an apartment at age 42 when I fell madly in love with my neighbor's cat. And it was clearly mutual. That was life-changing.

So maybe disable the NoScript for a trial period and see if that fixes it?

The newest one is a cat someone had that wanted to re-home him, because they were "dog people".

The cats are fine. My oldest cat hates the tomcat I just adopted, but my little female and the tommy are now bestest buds. The tommy grooms my little cat, I think he is in love, or something.

I miss my Yellow Lab something terrible. He was the bestest dog ever. My best friend and companion. It was sad watching him decline.

But my cats are my little friends. Right now my old lady is sitting where she usually is, right next to me, next to my laptop.

Tonight I had to drive in to work to turn off an oven, and there was a tiny little fawn leaping across the yard. Her mother was standing there looking at me as I got out of my car. Animals are all kind of beautiful, except mosquitoes and horseflies.

Not true, at least of this dog person. I'm entirely neutral about cats. I have only ever had dogs since a wee lad, all but one of them a female black lab mix that was a rescue.

I choose not to own cats, but can clearly see their value from watching friends with theirs, and the posts of Jane, rickl and others.

342 I'll be glad to get back out in the country again. We do see rabbits in the neighbor's yard across the street. And I have chickens. But it's nice to sit out in the quiet and look at nothing in particular. We plan on getting a house with a good sitting porch, sort of like what Vic has.

343 I enjoyed watching a pair of older fawns frolicking on the golf course behind our house yesterday afternoon. They were chasing each other and jumping in the air.

Son's dog saw them and was frothing at the mouth to go on the screened porch and run them off.

Sometimes it's nice to let the doggeh run off a herd, and sometimes it's nice to quietly enjoy watching a bit of peaceful, playful nature at its best.

346 My late husband had the lab and rott trained not to spook elk. The elk herd would just split up around them and keep going. He was close enough to grab some hair off the back end of one when it went by.

The insanity gets to you, and it's good to see the pleasant things in life from time to time.

Also, I expect the vacuum is hurting that puppy's ears.

366 I watched an old Nova piece a couple of nights ago that was fascinating. There was a parakeet that knew over 200 words and phrases.

When I was young, and we were constantly moving in the AF, I owned those sweet little birds. The key is, get only one. They bond to you and listen to everything you say. My last little bird would listen for me to come home and would ring the bell in its cage and go nuts for me to let him out. He'd perch on my shoulder and say, "I'm a pretty pretty boy!"

Yeah, it sounds stupid to the horde, but to a 9 y.o. girl, it was the best.

It's a good way to make money as a part time job, to clear some debt or to add to the rainy day fund. It is a terrible and car killing job to do it full time plus.

Think you don't especially like people now? Driving full time with their driver rating system will make you hate people in general.

376 Madamemayhem: Sherlock with Cumberbatch is a blast. The first two seasons are based on the original Doyle stories, only modernized. When you have finished Season 1, to go YouTube and watch "Seasons Greetings". (At least I think that's the name.) It is an absolute stitch.

I really like this iteration of the Holmes stories because Martin Freeman plays Watson as a person in his own right; not just a foil for Holmes's adventures. This Watson sticks up for himself, doesn't let Holmes run him over, and actively participates, rather than merely looks on. And Cumberbatch does a great Holmes -- tall, lanky, total snob, so impressively intelligent, and Mark Gattiss as Mycroft runs rings around him.

I never really understood the Christmas special that preceded the third season, and I really didn't understand the third season all that much either. The third season wandered off the path and into some really strange weeds. I believe that the third season is the series finale. Both Cumberbatch and Freeman have become very much in demand because of the series, and I don't think either have the time or the inclination to come back a fourth time. (Although it is very interesting how many times one will have a bit part in the other's movies.)

I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have.
