Last night, both the Washington Post and New York Times -- whose reporters, like pretty much everyone in Washington, knew exactly who the FBI informant is -- published articles that, while deferring to the FBI's demands by not naming him, provided so many details about him that it made it extremely easy to know exactly who it is. The NYT described the FBI informant as "an American academic who teaches in Britain" and who "made contact late that summer with” George Papadopoulos and "also met repeatedly in the ensuing months with the other aide, Carter Page." The Post similarly called him "a retired American professor" who met with Page "at a symposium about the White House race held at a British university." In contrast to the picture purposely painted by the DOJ and its allies that this informant was some of sort super-secret, high-level, covert intelligence asset, the NYT described him as what he actually is: "the informant is well known in Washington circles, having served in previous Republican administrations and as a source of information for the C.I.A. in past years." Despite how "well known" he is in Washington, and despite publishing so many details about him that anyone with Google would be able to instantly know his name, the Post and the NYT nonetheless bizarrely refused to identity him, with the Post justifying its decision that it "is not reporting his name following warnings from U.S. intelligence officials that exposing him could endanger him or his contacts." The NYT was less melodramatic about it, citing a general policy: the NYT "has learned the source"s identity but typically does not name informants to preserve their safety," it said. In other words, both the NYT and the Post chose to provide so many details about the FBI informant that everyone would know exactly who it was, while coyly pretending that they were obeying FBI demands not to name him. How does that make sense? Either these newspapers believe the FBI's grave warnings that national security and lives would be endangered if it were known who they used as their informant (in which case those papers should not publish any details that would make his exposure likely), or they believe that the FBI (as usual) was just invoking false national security justifications to hide information it unjustly wants to keep from the public (in which case the newspapers should name him).

Strzok can roll up the whole thing. With Page and Priestap and lots of documents corroborating.

I imagine if there's one thing the Clintons understand, it's getting leverage over your partners in crime to keep them on their side. For example, Obama had to scuttle the email investigation, since he was emailing her private email account, including classified docs (part of the language in Comey's statement that was softened up by Strzok in his "no intent here!" statement referenced this). Another example is Mueller - he's in the middle of the Uranium One deal. And others in the IC were working for here, as she was in possession of classified docs that she was not read in on; Sid was emailing some that had been presented less than 24 hours earlier. That indicates people high up were essentially committing espionage to keep Hillary in the intel loop.
We may never know how ugly this mess was, but all indications are that the FBI, CIA and DoJ need to be dismantled and rebuilt to get rid of all the rot.

If we have learned anything during this saga, it might be that it *does* take public disclosure. If Sessions isn't asleep at the switch and is working with the Boss on a coordinated take-down operation, then this might make sense. You can't go after the deep state without air cover, and Trump's public salvo might be exactly that. You can't so easily suppress and obstruct an investigation (and disclosures from the same) that the President made public.

Trump and sessions had to let this play out or risk stepping on the toes of the IG and Prosecutor that sessions appointed and screwing that criminal investigation up.
I have no doubt that they found out what was going on during the campaign in the last few weeks and months as the IG kept digging and reporting back to DOJ. But Trump has kept his mouth shut until something pops up in the NYT or some other place, then he blasts them.
This is all an attempt to get ahead of what is coming out in the IG report. And if the media is reporting that spying was actually taking place in Trump's campaign we are going to see even worse stuff revealed when the IG report goes public.

Here's my optimistic take on Sessions: He and Trump intentionally had him sit back so that when he does strike, there can be no legitimate accusations of him impeding the Mueller investigation on Trump's behalf. Having Rosenstein do it means it was guided by a non-Trump appointee, which defuses any appearance of partisanship.
Also, having him stand down has been a big ol' rope-a-dope, as it has allowed all the players - Mueller, Rosenstein and the rest to actively attempt their coup while the Horowitz investigation was actively watching them, tracking and documenting their every move.
I'd like that to be true, anyway...

Everyone presumed the Russians had the deleted emails (even Strozk, IIRC, makes mention of possible state actors having gotten access). Everything that they have run with says they believe Russia had the emails.
That still does not explain why, little Ben, Misfud - conveniently disappeared - telling a Trump campaign guy the Russian's had them, would cause the early 2016 FBI/CIA descending on the Trump campaign with human intelligence operations, when they didn't even bother to seize and investigate hillary's or the DNC's fucking servers, if they were so g-damned concerned about national security!
I'd like to know what other leads and operations they had going on to pursue Russian meddling/hacking/email propagating, at the time. I expect we will see a distinct lack of interest in anyone other than someone with a connection to Trump.

The only interest I think they really have in the e-mails is that there will likely be a lot of stuff that they allowed Hillary to scrub which would come to light if someone else had them. The Russians knowing all of that and using it against us is one thing. But Trump having it and exposing them is another. They would do anything to stop that from happening (especially during a campaign) since it would threaten their cozy, incestuous clique, and nothing is more important to them than their own comfort and power. It had to really shake them to have thousands of people chanting, "lock her up!" Everyone involved in the wrongdoing had a stake in those e-mails staying hidden, or getting out in front of the news if they were found and that can lead to desperate actions.
Once they started investigating a presidential campaign there was no going back and it snowballed after that point. So I guess maybe that is an additional theory of how this all happened to go with the idea that it was all just a pretext and set-up from the start. I am not sure which I believe. Maybe some of both depending on who the player is in the farce. But it seems like there could certainly be more than one motivation at work here. At the very least it helps explain why they chose such a flimsy and ridiculous pretext to justify spying.
They are telling us what they were afraid of, just lying about why. They feared Trump having that information more than they did Putin having it because if Trump had it we would have it, and that just wouldn't do at all.

A lot of foreign money got laundered through the Chelsea Legacy Foundation. I haven't found a serious analysis of where that money went. There's evidence that it was used to pre-game Hillary's campaign (e.g. Sid Vicious was on payroll). I suspect bribes were made to D super-delegates who went for Hillary before the campaign started (this made it impossible for a regular candidate to get funding.) And the kids of MSM got cushy jobs.
