Mossberg(R) Terminates Relationship with Dick's Sporting Goods
NORTH HAVEN, CT -- O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer, announced today its decision to discontinue selling products to Dick's Sporting Goods, and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring of gun control lobbyists in April 2018.
Effective immediately, O.F. Mossberg & Sons will not accept any future orders from Dick's Sporting Goods or Field & Stream, and is in the process of evaluating current contractual agreements.
"It has come to our attention that Dick’s Sporting Goods recently hired lobbyists on Capitol Hill to promote additional gun control," said Iver Mossberg, Chief Executive Officer of O.F. Mossberg & Sons. "Make no mistake, Mossberg is a staunch supporter of the U.S. Constitution and our Second Amendment rights, and we fully disagree with Dick's Sporting Goods' recent anti-Second Amendment actions."

But Amazon could put Big Box stores like Dicks out of business overnight by just cloning their stores, but instead of purchasing them in store you scan the products QR code into your phone's "Amazon Shop" ap that instantly orders the product to be delivered to your place in the next day or two. Personally, the only two reasons I don't shop online is because I need to check it out in person or try on the size. And if you only need to stock one or two items of each size/color/model than you can have much, much more choice of products on the store floor. (but again... it might be a little icky to try on a shirt that 200 people have already tried on before you.)

The only challenge, and it is one I will work to overcome, is that for a range of youth football equipment it's nice to be able to try things on. But, I generally have an idea on what should work size wise (by now) with an online purchase. Though you are then giving Amazon more money.

We don't really have another "sports" brick and mortar outlet in my area.

Funny story, when I was in the Navy one of our duty guards dropped their shotgun in the water. We sent a diver down to get it and he brought up a shot gun that had clearly been down there a long time. We checked the numbers and it wasn't ours. My XO said to put it back and don't come back until we find ours.

I haven't heard of any states that require bolt action, but don't some states have a limit on shotgun magazine capacity for certain hunts?

I think you can get plugs that go in the magazine tubes of pump actions to reduce the capacity.

The hair color thing doesn't hold up here. Lots of odd fashions that don't fly in the Lower 48 are just fine up here. I also think Amazon's plan is to put everyone under then jack up prices. If you've ever seen their balance statements, the company makes almost zero money on its mail order business.

The ratings for the other stores is also very nice. Keeps the service level high for shipping and returns, customer service.

I will admit I was one of the very first Amazon customers. Jumped on it as soon as it went live. Just books back then. I received so many Amazon mugs at first. Then they started going cheap and giving us bookmarks, then it all stopped. No more gifts.

I think you can get plugs that go in the magazine tubes of pump actions to reduce the capacity.

I'm not sure if that model was in response to a particular state's limits.

It just looked funny compared to what we normally used to hunt with back home in Alabama. Mostly doubles, Long Toms (those things were awesome to shoot, they'd tear your shoulder right off.) and over-and-under squirrel guns.

As you can tell, we went after small game. Mmmm, fried rabbit...

As for cosmetics, it's hard enough to figure out what shades of lipstick look good on you when you're in the store - looking at colors on a computer screen. No! I've purchased perfume online but only after I had tried it on in person and knew that it was a good scent for me. You can't buy every damn thing online.

You should take a look at the Iran-Syria pipeline project that was well under way as the war in Iraq broke out. They've never given up on that plan and they do indeed desperately want a warm water port in the Med.

372 Dicks is based in Western PA, and the pro gun control stance has been made by the son of the founder. I don't know their politics at all. Dicks stock is down about 50% y/y, but I suspect that's a function of competition with Amazon, Eastbay and alternatives, plus the decision to add many old locations of the failed Sports Authority chain.
What is curious, is that there is not much positive press coverage for them over this move. They have put themselves in a bad spot. There is no such thing as "sensible gun control" in the eyes of the media and Dems, it's confiscation they demand. They may fear they will lose allot of affluent, suburban buyers in the deep blue North East and left Coast, but they did not admit customer concern was responsible for their decision.
But far, far worse is hiring the lobbyists, that's a serious strategic blunder for a business that has Flied & Stream as a unit and needs the goodwill of the industry.
It's going to be interesting if this effort gathers steam and more makers decline to sell to Dicks controlled entities.

1.Seek to unionize their workforce
2. Solicit discrimination claims/slip and fall cases.
3. Call the Fire Marshal, Building Inspector, OSHA, etc and report "something looks funny there."
4. Invite homeless campers to Dick's parking lots
5. Organize protests when they evict homeless campers
6. Etc.
