Comey: The NRA "Sells Fear" to Keep Us From Imposing Common Sense Gun Grabbing Laws

I keep hearing this guy is a "Republican."

It should be noted that "DC Republican" isn't the same as a real Republican.

Fish drink the water they swim in, don't they?

Also, I've noticed that many government Republicans have a faith in government's capacity to re-make people for the better nearly equal to liberals'. I imagine this is a matter of self-selection as well as ego -- everyone tends to believe the groups they're in are the Best Groups with the Greatest Capacity to Do Good. And government Republicans tend have a greater faith in their fellow, mostly-liberal coworkers that non-government Republicans just don't share.

Former FBI director James Comey criticized the National Rifle Association during a book-tour appearance in Miami Wednesday, arguing that the group of "sells fea"” to gun owners to ward off popular support for restrictions on gun rights.

Asked what policies he would support to prevent mass shootings like the one that claimed 17 lives in Parkland earlier this year, Comey said he would support "reasonable restrictions" on gun ownership but declined to provide specifics.

The FBI director-turned-author recounted the experience of being held at gunpoint by a home invader in high school in explaining his nominal support for the Second Amendment, but firmly rejected the argument that any modification to current gun laws would lead to a total ban on gun ownership.

"It's not a slippery slope, it's a concrete set of stairs built by America's founders," he said. "Let's have these conversations standing there, holding the rails."

Even putting aside the perjury, I STILL object to Billy Clintons affair with Monica, not because of the morality immorality issue. I object to it because he was given a pass for doing what in anyone else would be grounds for summary dismissal: he banged an employee who reported to him.

During the 90s, I was on a NFL board with a guy who worked in government, who told us that his mouth dropped wide open when the Clintons tried to make sex with a subordinate no big deal.

He said that the Clinton admin itself made sure that he wasted a whole day in a seminar that said that "sex at work" shouldn't be--and was never right in any case. They made everybody in government waste a day in a seminar on what they would eventually pooh-pooh.

There have been six shooters that I know of which the FBI either dropped the ball on entirely or failed to handle properly:

Nick Cruz - failed to act on repeated danger signs and clear statements of intent
William Atchison - interviewed by the FBI and cleared
Omar Mateen - protected by FBI because of informer dad, interviewed and cleared
Tamerlane Tsarnov - interviwed by FBI and cleared despite warnings from Russian government about the guy and his brother
Dylann Roof - allowed gun purchases because of FBI screwups despite being flagged for no gun purchase
NIdal Hassan - FBI ignored its own and the Army's information and its own warnings about the man because of fears of racism and anti=Muslim behavior.

Because these people and these agencies are completely and utterly corrupted, weaponized and unbound by any super ordinate principle of fairness, impartiality and justice.

67 Also, I've noticed that many government Republicans have a faith in government's capacity to re-make people for the better nearly equal to liberals'

I've said it ... still believe it ... most Democrats and Republicans only disagree on the Ends. The Means - not so much.

They both see Government as a way to "do good". They just differ on what "good" actually looks like.

I'll be honest ... although anybody that's paid any attention to me already figured it out. I'm obviously no Republican. It's just that, right now, Democrats hold most of the power, so Republicans are my natural allies.

But flip the roles - and yeah, I see a Republican Party every fucking bit as over-bearing and miserable as Democrats. Just about a different slate of issues.

Until a third party emerges that actually wants to reduce the size and scope of Government - my best bet is for these two groups of fuckers to just tear each other apart.

And I got a better chance of finding a unicorn than that third party.

Once that conversation starts, gun owners lose, because the very act of that conversation grants the premise upon which gun control laws are based.

This is the position of the Wall Street Journal, which used to declare, every 4th of July, something like, "The immigration policy of the United States shall consist of five words: 'There shall be open borders.'"

They stopped declaring that forthrightly that after 9/11 (whoopsie!), but you can hear this echoing in their rhetoric.

Those who believe the future can be prevented, and those who do not.

In other words, there are those people who know that 'stuff' is going to happen, anticipate what that stuff might be, and have a plan to deal with it within budget.

There are also individuals who have the ability to make a future happen; they can see that future, they can see the steps necessary to achieve that future, and they can persuade a group of people to follow this person into that future.

I'm telling you ... I know these people. I've worked with 'em.

Guy at my old firm - MBA type. Would rather suck a cock than vote Democrat. But he was all in on Open Borders, Gun Confiscation, etc... Basically - he wanted the US to be an Economic Zone.

So I asked him, over a beer ... "When you get this, who's going to fight these overseas wars you love ? Because my kids ain't, and I'm retired." Crickets.

So I continue ... "So, when everybody's unemployed or working for Charles Dickens Wages, who's going to stop the mobs from taking YOUR shit instead ? Because it ain't gonna' be Me. And You ain't able."

The guy was visibly disturbed and offended. The notion that people would simply say Screw The Law and turn on him and his kind was ... inconceivable.

They don't really believe in individual free will--they think that everyone (except them) is somebody's puppet and someone's holding the strings.

They want to be EVERYONE'S puppet-masters. Because they're just so dog-gone better than everyone else, you see. THEY'RE not puppets, you see. They hold the strings, they're not held by them.

Therefore: The NRA (for instance) is a rival puppet master, holding the strings of their otherwise inert and unthinking membership. Get rid of the NRA and the unthinking, inert NRA members' strings will simply fall into their greedy little hands.

Hypothetical situation
Gun control starts sweepin' the nation
Now you got a bunch of unarmed innocent victims
Gettin' f**ked by the system
Sittin' at home with a butter knife, huh
Any fool could rape your wife
So what's up when the criminals can't be stopped?
The only one with guns are the cops
But it's hard for a brother to trust police
Huh, so the s**t don't cease
So I go downtown to buy a hot gun
I hated criminals, and now I'm one
Because I bought a gat to protect my house
The cops want to bust me out?
So it's illegal to protect yourself?
Hell, you either get killed, or you in jail
So when you vote
You better think about what I just wrote
And f**k writin' a note to yo' congressman!
You got the fool hired
Now help get the fool fired
A scary scenario

To buy a gun, you have to have a national ID check, which checks your background, citizenship and Identification.

IF one is common sense control... then why is it not common sense for another supposedly EQUAL Right?

Chris ... I'd say not "Couldn't". "Wouldn't". Simply Would Not. Here's what I saw and remember.

My family was Working Poor White Trash. They were not, by any definition, either Law Abiding or Peaceful. They brought Police Force down upon themselves that really was justified, more than once.

However - during Ruby Ridge - that entire bunch was in a full-bore love affair with Bill Clinton. He could simply do no wrong.

It was ... well, it was fucked up ... watching the entire clan go through mental gymnastics regarding Ruby Ridge and Waco. They had to square an instinctual distrust of Law Enforcement with a desire to support ANYTHING that came out of the Clinton Administration.

But other folks I knew, outside of my clan, got the picture. That's when I started seeing Militias both get formed and go underground. That's when I, personally, started seeing people arm up.

Ruby Ridge and Waco was when I started seeing the group of people coalesce that just mistrusted the entire system.

this is why we can't have nice things.

Also thrown in was (they are devout Catholics, you know, the ones who have 30 kids because the Pope says so) If the Church doesn't like it, the Church can go fuck itself. This is liberal logic. Just listening to this guy, you know sooner or later he's going to put his foot in his mouth and then the progressive mob will turn on him and eat him alive.

Because like anything, that doesn't fit the narrative.

Conservatives = Fear mongers.

Even thought they're the ones who freak out if *White Nationalists* (!!) protest the tearing down of a public statue. They're looking for the "conservatives that finally snapped" in almost every mass shooting.

And they're the ones telling everybody that our "democracy" is tipping on the edge.

But they're not "fear-mongers" because when they say something, it's true. It's an actual warning.

That's what self-reinforcing non-reflective thinking does.

This gun control nonsense is just his attempt to get back in the good graces of the leftist gun-grabbing crowd.

Don't forget that Hil-LIAR-y openly discussed how her nominee to replace Antonin Scalia (May he rest in peace) would be a committed liberal, and the new leftist majority of the Supreme Court would reverse the Heller decision, institute comprehensive gun control and ban all "assault weapons" a la the Australian model.

457 I repeat again, the NRA did not come first. The lawful gun owners, needing an organization to lobby for their natural and Constitutionally protected right to bear arms, THEY came first.

THEN, the NRA. The NRA does not need to sell fear to gun owners. Democrats do that far better than the NRA ever could. The NRA simply acts on behalf of their 5 million members.

458 Common sense gun law reform:
Pass 50 state reciprocity.
Remove suppressors from NFA.
Remove SBR's from NFA.
Include violent juvenile crimes in NICS reports once the criminal is 18 years old.
Restrict violent juveniles from firearms ownership until age 25. Restore those rights only after minimum 5 years proven clean record after review by a judge. [example: 21 year old who has not committed a crime for at least 5 years and with demonstrated good character such as military service, regular employment, current student in good standing, etc. could petition a judge to restore gun rights.] This would hinder the tactics of gangs to use juveniles to commit violent acts. Such juveniles would not be in NICS when they turn 18. That is a problem that can be corrected.

Common sense prosecution reform:
Stop plea bargaining away prosecution of straw purchasers.
